Iron Pigs in QVBL finals vs Trappers
The Weyburn Iron Pigs won their semi-final series against the Regina Dodgers, by claiming an 8-3 win in Regina, to advance them to the finals for the Qu’Appelle Baseball League against the Regina Trappers. The first game was on Monday evening in Regina at Currie Field, which the Iron Pigs lost by the score of 5-0, and game 2 was on Wednesday evening in Wey-
burn at Tom Laing Park. In the deciding game of the best-of-three series with the Dodgers, Weyburn was first on the board in the second inning with two runs, and finished off in a big way with six runs in the eighth inning. The Dodgers didn’t score any runs until the fifth inning when they had a single run, followed by single runs in the seventh
and eighth innings. Will Morris, the designated hitter, had a hit, a run and two RBIs on the night, with single hits and RBIs from Troy Miller, Mike Onstad, Luke Niemegeers, Eric Schultz and Garett Walbaum. Eric Evans was on the mound for seven innings, and allowed seven hits and two runs, and recorded eight strike-outs.
Minor football teams split games Weyburn’s minor football teams recorded a win and a loss over the September 17-18 weekend. The Weyburn Young Fellows U14 Falcons had a strong performance as they recorded a victory over Swift Current by the score of 52-0. In a Facebook post from the team, “The O-Line was on point, the passes were dynamite, the blocking was
on fire and this team came to dominate!” Even with being down 10 players, the U12 PAR Contracting Ravens worked hard in their game against Estevan. Evrhet Schenher scored three touchdowns (one opening each half) and Finn Clark also had a touchdown. The team has improved with every game and persevered through the
adversity of being short players. The final score was 57-26 for Estevan. On Sunday, the U10 Power Dodge Cudas Jamboree was held at Woodlawn Field in Estevan. The jamboree featured teams from both Weyburn and Moose Jaw to wrap up Football Weekend in Estevan. The next and final U10 Jamboree will be on Sunday, Sept. 26 in Moose Jaw.
