Weyburn Comp Eagles players part of Team South win in Senior Bowl

The annual Football Saskatchewan Senior Bowl game was played in Regina at Mosaic Stadium on May 26. The Senior Bowl is the High School football all-star game between the top graduating players from the south of the province vs the top graduating players from the north of the province.

It takes the top recruits through a tough tryout weekend in April, then selecting the top 40 players from all programs to return for a three-day camp and play the game vs the North. Each year it alternates between Regina and Saskatoon hosting, with Junior football and U-Sport programs sponsoring the event to showcase their graduating recruits.

The Weyburn Eagles football program was represented well in the game this year with four players and three coaches on the team for the South.

Coaches Jody Kerr, Kyle Paterson and guest coach Rob Umbach joined the staff for the 2024 game, with Regina Thunder head coach Scott MacAulay as the South head coach.

On the players side,

Chace Kradovill (d-line), Isaiah Sanderson (receiver), Owen Istace (running back) and Conner Kerr (quarterback) all earned spots on this year’s team for the honour to represent their school and football programs in the game.

The South came out flying scoring two touchdowns in the first three minutes, with Conner Kerr connecting with a pair of Regina Riffel receivers to take an early 14-0 lead.

The North cut that in half in the second quarter, but an immediate response and follow up by Brady Vindevogel (Regina Miller) with a TD pass to extend the lead.

Kerr re-entered the game and ran one in himself before a late drive for a field goal, which had them in control entering the locker room at half with a 31-9 lead.

The third quarter saw the two teams exchange field goals until the south engineered a 72-yard drive and punched it in on the ground to take a 41-12 lead into the fourth quarter. The south shut out the North in the fourth quarter and added another Kerr pass to Tanner

Weyburn Lacrosse hosts a day of games for home teams

The Weyburn Lacrosse Thrashers had a full day of games on Saturday at Crescent Point Place, with teams from U11 up to U17 hosting teams for lacrosse action.

The U11 Credit Union Thrashers had two games against the Moose Jaw Mustangs Red team, and they won both, by scores of 3-1 in the morning, and 4-2 in the late afternoon.

Goals in the first game were by Jett Fox, Owen Eberle and Henry Riviere; in the second game, by Fox, Bennett Baumgartner and two by Eberle.

The U15 Young Fellows Thrashers had a 5-5 tie with the Swift Current Rampage, with Hudson Maloney getting three of the goals, and Shiloh Mickler the other two.

The U17 Weyburn Panther Drilling Thrashers edged out the QCMBL Chill 9-8. Scoring goals were Alex Labrecque with four, Brody Morrice with two, along with singles by Max Vennard, James Ashworth and Branson Lee, who scored the winning goal with eight seconds left in the game.

The U13 Weyburn Securities Thrashers were edged out 7-6 by the Swift Current Rampage. Wey -

burn’s goals were by Felix Wawro, Simon Wawro (two), Julie Labrecque (two) and Ryder Stepp.

The U15 Weyburn Completely Branded Thrashers had a 4-3 loss to Swift Current, with Weyburn’s goals by Steele Ozmun and Chayse Willoughby (two). Swift Current scored the winning goal with 32 seconds left on the clock.

The U13 Weyburn Young’s Equipment Thrashers edged out Swift Current by a score of 4-3. Weyburn’s goals were by Bentley Wilson, Cohen Baumgartner (two) and Judd Vennard.

The two U15 Weyburn teams then played each other, and the Young Fellows beat Completely Branded by a score of 8-5. Young Fellows goals were by Korven Pouteaux, with two in the first period, along with Nathan Rosengren and two by Hudson Maloney; then three goals were scored by Completely Branded, by Willoughby, Maddox Mohan and Leo Missal, leaving the score at 5-3 after two periods.

In the third, Pouteaux scored two more goals along with one by Mickler, while Mohan and Missal both scored for Completely Branded.

ries for 43 yards; Isaiah Sanderson was targeted twice and had one reception for 33 yards; Conner Kerr went 11-16 passing with 193 yards and three TDs, and he also had two rushes for 19 yards. Conner Kerr was named the south MVP for the game, as voted on by Football Sask and guest representatives from Junior and U-Sport programs.

Sr. Beavers drop season opener to Moose Jaw

The Weyburn Beavers opened the 2024 season in the Western Canadian Baseball League hosting the Moose Jaw Miller Express on May 24 at Tom Laing Field, and the Swift Current 57s on May 25.

Weyburn lost both matches, by a score of 5-3 to Moose Jaw, and 9-5 to Swift Current.

Ryan Meyer was the losing pitcher for the Beavers, and he was on the mound for seven innings, allowing seven hits, four runs and making six strike-outs.

Owen McConnell pitched one inning, getting one strike-out, and Joe Hart was up for one inning, allowing one hit, one run and getting two strike-outs.

Weyburn had three runs, scored by Dallas Cummins, Ryan Muizelaar and Ian Heck, with Cummins getting one hit, Muizelaar one hit, Heck one hit and Tyren Dorrance had one hit.

On Saturday night, Ian Heck was the starting pitcher and was on the mound for six innings, allowing six hits and three runs, and get-

ting 10 strike-outs.

Aiden Maas pitched for one inning, allowing three hits and two runs, and getting one strike-out; Angel Fragozo threw for two-thirds of an inning, allowing three hits and three runs; and Logan Wortman threw for one and a third innings, allowing three hits and one run, and getting two strike-outs.

Heck got two RBIs on the night, Ryan Webster and Jacob Carlson each had one. Cummins,

Weyburn Comp athletes compete at regional track meet

Athletes from schools around the southeast converged at the Weyburn Comp track field for the regional track and field meet on Wednesday. Coming up on Wednesday, May 29, WCS will be hosting the district track meet.

The following are the results for athletes from the Weyburn Comp by event and age level, with the top three placings in each event.

For bantam boys, in the 100-metre race, Cole Payak placed first, Jeremy Hamel was second; in the 200m race, Cole Payak won first, and Jeremy Hamel was second; in the 400m race, Jeremy Hamel won first; and in the 800m race, Cole Payak was first.

In discus, Jeremy

Hamel was first; in high jump, Cody Goski placed second; and in long jump, Cole Payak placed first, with Cody Goski in third.

For bantam girls in the 100m race, Sophie Pollock won first; Rayne Fellner was second, and Yuna Lee came third; in the 1500m race, Rae-Lynn McKnight won first, Lily Penner was second, and Nicole Dayaan placed third. In the 200m race, Sophie Pollock was first, Rayne Fellner came second and Alyssa Kerr was third.

In the 3000m race, Lily Penner won first place; for the 80m hurdles, Alyssa Kerr won first; and in the 800m race, Rae-Lynn McKnight won first, Grace Anderson placed second,

and Nicole Dayaan came in third.

In the high jump, Sophie Pollock won first, Alyssa Kerr placed second; in long jump, Sophie Pollock won first and Alyssa Kerr was second.

For intermediate boys, in the 100m race, Aeryk Benning won second; in the 100m hurdles, Alex Labrecque won second, and Andrew Hatch placed third. In the 200m race, Alex Labrecque won first; in the 4X100 relay, the WCS boys team won first; in the 400m race, Alex Labrecque placed second.

In discus, Jack Bell placed second; in javelin, Jack Bell was first.

For intermediate girls, in the 100m race, Karis Gerle won first, and Nat -

alie Molde placed third; in the 200m race, Natalie Molde won first and Kinley Dammann came second; and in the 4X100 relay, the WCS girls team won first.

In the 400m race, Natalie Molde won first; in discus, Bailey Roy won first and Karis Gerle came third; in javelin, Bailey Roy placed second; and in long jump, Karis Gerle won first place.

For junior boys, in the 100m race, Brody Morrice placed second; in the 100m hurdles, Tace Odima won first; in the 1500m race, Carter Fergason placed second, and Luca Zieglgansberger came in third.

In the 3000m race, Luca Zieglgansberger won first place; in the 4X100 relay, the WCS boys placed

second; in the 400m race, Tace Odima won first, and Victor Magawa came third; in high jump, Brody Morrice placed second; in javelin, Jacob Symes won first; in long jump, Tace Odima won first; and in shotput, Jacob Symes placed second.

For junior girls, in the 100m race, Peyton Lokken won first and Zoe Kerr came second; in the 200m race, Zoe Kerr won first; in the 80m hurdles, Zoe Kerr won first; in discus, Hayvn Walbaum placed second; in javelin, Hayvn Walbaum placed second and June Bloor was third.

In long jump, Peyton Lokken won first and Reegan Chicoine was second; and in triple jump, Peyton Lokken was first and Reegan Chicoine was second.

For peewee boys, in the 100m race, Rylan Meier placed second; in the 1500m race, Cohen Fleck won first, Gus Taylor placed second and Lexington Roy came third; in the 200m race, Rylan Meier won first, and Brendan Hope placed third; in the 4X100 relay, the WCS boys team won first place.

In the 400m race, Rayane Benabdallah won first, Cohen Fleck was second and Gus Taylor came in third; in the 800m race, Rylan Meier won first; Cohen Fleck was second and Gus Taylor placed third.

In high jump Rylan Meier won first, and Jaym Bautista came in third; and in shotput, Brendan Hope placed second.

For peewee girls, in the 100m race, Eliza Gall won first; Sadie Hodgkin

came second, and Leah Goski placed third; in the 200m race, Eliza Gall won first, Sadie Hodgkin came second; in high jump Brooklyn Schwindt won first and Leah Goski placed third; and in long jump, Leah Goski placed second.

For senior boys, in the 100m race, Noah Kopec won first and Conner Kerr came second; in the 100m hurdles, Conner Kerr won first; in the 200m race, Noah Kopec won first and Jeremy Symes came in third; in the 1500m race, Wylie Kopec won first, Mason Sidloski came second and Calder McMillan was third; in the 3000m race, Wylie Kopec won first and Calder McMillan came second; In the 4X100 relay, the WCS boys team won first place; in the 400m race, Conner Kerr won first; in the 800m race, Wylie Kopec won first; in shotput, Isaiah Sanderson placed third, and in triple jump, Conner Kerr came second. For senior girls, in the 100m race, Amryn King won first; in the 1500m race, Autumn Vilcu won first; in the 3000m race, Autumn Vilcu won first; in the 400m race, Autumn Vilcu won first; and in the 800m race, Autumn Vilcu won first with Anna Tronson in second. In discus, Whitney Lanz-McIntyre placed second; in long jump, Amryn King won first; in shotput, Amryn King placed second and Whitney LanzMcIntyre was third; and in triple jump, Amryn King won first place.

Wednesday at the Comp track field. He ended up in sixth place in this event, with a throw of 27.04 metres. The Weyburn Comp will be hosting the district track meet today, May 29, in preparation for the provincial track meet in early June.
