Three local artists win mural design contest
Leena Honig, Delaine Castle and Krystal Glowatski were the recipients of $250 each for their winning designs in the Jubilee Park Mural Contest. Voting was done online with award prizes raised from donations made in the memory of Gloria Onstad. The contest received approximately 70 submissions, with these being the top three.

scholarships at the graduation ceremonies on Tuesday afternoon.

The graduation ceremonies for a number of programs at Southeast College’s Weyburn campus were held at McKenna Hall on Tuesday afternoon, with many family and friends in attendance to cheer the grad class on.
The grads had an Honour Song played by the Dakota Journeys drum group from the Pheasant Rump First Nation, and they arrived on stage and also left the stage after the ceremonies with the drum beats.
A knowledge keeper from Ocean Man First Nation, Margaret Bruce gave the opening prayer, and messages were brought by Colleen Young, the new Minister of Advanced Education; President and CEO
Vicky Roy, in her last act before leaving the college; and from Trevor Tessier of the board of governors.
Valedictorian speeches were given by Brianna Eagan from the Adult 12 class, and Brianna Gagnon from the Practical Nursing class.
The graduates from the Adult 12 class included Pratima Budhathoki, Brianna Eagan, Chelsea St. Germain, Tyson Praski, Kianna Rombaut and Trentin Watetch.
Graduating from the Essential Skills for the Workplace program were Melina Babina, Vasyl Batoryk, Tabetu Gaim, Sunny Kim, Kole Kirkpatrick, Tyran Leatherdale and Yorsalem Mengsteab.
The grads from the Hairstylist program included Breez Classen, Tori Mahnke, Chelsy Praski, Lily Rinas and Brenna Sellsted.
The grads from the Continuing Care Assistant program were Louisa Apekch, Queenie Begtang, Kathleen Bulirao, Candance Crippen, Kolade Dada, Rhona Fuachie, Kiranpreet Kaur, Leah Rose Macajelos, Patrick Manu, Stella Omem, Trixia Pastoral, Joseph Solis and Annie Rose Tequil.
In Practical Nursing, the graduates were Christine Bautista, Jayden Becker, Kristan Bugera, Brook Cronk, Emma Deters, Brianna Gagnon, Katrine Martinez, Brenda McPhedran, Jessica Mitchell,
Shayna Prawdzik, Cheyenne Siebert and Kali Sorenson.
The scholarships and bursaries were also presented to the students as follows.
The Barber Motors bursary went to Katrine Martinez; the City of Weyburn bursary to Brianna Eagan and Shayna Prawdzik; and the Government of Saskatchewan Opportunity Scholarship went to Lily Rinas.
The Prairie Sky Co-op bursary went to Emma Deters, and the Co-op scholarship went to Tori Mahnke.
The Southeast College Governors bursary went to Pratima Budhathoki, and the SE College PostSecondary Opportunity
Scholarships went to Amali Agampodige, Brianna Gagnon, Candace Crippen and Tori Mahnke.
The Weyburn Credit Union Quint Patrick scholarship went to Felix Agong.
The Weyburn Rotary Club bursaries went to Shayna Prawdzik and Cheyenne Siebert.
The Weyburn Oilwomen’s ‘Pursuit of Education’ scholarship went to Jessica Mitchell, and the Oilwomen’s ‘Pursuit of Excellence’ scholarship went to Brianna Gagnon.
The Weyburn Young Fellows bursaries went to Goodness Chimezie and Brenda McPhedran, and the YF Wives bursary went to Cheyenne Siebert.
There were three categories of student recognition awards, presented by Southeast College.
The Board of Governors awards went to Vasyl Batoryk, Queenie Begtang, Pratima Budhathoki, Goodness Chimezie and Lily Rinas. The Presidents Award went to Brianna Eagan, Sunny Kim, Leah Rose Macajelos, Tori Mahnke and Hiralben Thakkar.
The award for community contributions went to Kolade Dada and Tyson Praski.
A total of 21 awards went to 16 students with a total value of $17,350, and the total including the graduations in Estevan and Moosomin will be $55,600.
