Police investigate vehicle thefts and domestic assaults In conjunction with the local RCMP, the Weyburn PS are investigating two files of stolen vehicles. In each case, a pickup truck was taken from the west central area of the city. One vehicle was found abandoned in the Evanston Park area. The other vehicle theft remains outstanding; it is a Green 1999 Dodge Ram 2500 quad cab pickup with a beacon light on the headache rack. The vehicle should have Saskatchewan plate 472 ABF.

On September 5, the Weyburn PS received a call regarding a domestic dispute between a 31 year-old female and a 39 year-old male. Upon attending it was determined that one of the individuals was intoxicated. The matter was mediated with the assistance of the police. Also on September 5, the Weyburn PS were called to a local pub at about 7:20 p.m. regarding an altercation between two people. Upon ar-
rival, the altercation between a 33 year-old male and a 33 year old-female who were known to each other, had ended. Neither wanted to pursue charges and would not provide evidence to support the investigation. The matter was concluded at that time. On September 4, the Weyburn PS responded to a report of a domestic assault. As the result of the investigation, a 48 year-old male has been charged with assaulting
his 50 year-old spouse. Also on September 4, the Weyburn Police Service responded to a complaint of a domestic disturbance between a 43 year-old female and a 52 year-old male. Upon police arrival, the matter was mediated without further need for police involvement at the time. Further of September 4, the Weyburn PS received a report of a number of young people on the roof of a downtown business. Five youth were
located but were not on the roof at the time. They were warned about their actions. Also on September 4, as a result of a traffic stop, a 17 year-old male driver was charged with driving while suspended and had his vehicle impounded. On September 3, as the result of a complaint about a suspected impaired driver, the Weyburn PS made a patrol and located the vehicle being driven by a 40 year-old fe-
male. The driver was arrested and charged with driving over .08 as well as for being in possession of a small amount of marihuana. On September 2, the Weyburn PS conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle. As the result of the stop, it was determined that the vehicle had been recently stolen from Alberta. The 50 year-old male driver was arrested without incident and charged with possession of stolen property as well as with breach of probation. On September 1, the Weyburn Police Service received a call regarding a 23 year-old male who was exposing himself. As the result of the investigation, it was determined that the individual suffered some intellectual challenges. He was spoken to about his behavior. On August 31, the Weyburn PS received a call from a local business regarding a shoplifting complaint. As the result of the investigation, a 21 year-old female has been charged with theft under $5000 and will be making a court appearance.

Walking to remember The 2nd annual “A Walk to Remember” is being held on Sunday, September 13. The 5 km walk is a tribute to babies who are gone to soon, and originated with Lisa Loustel and her husband, Jordan, after the lost of their infant daughter, Iyanna Dawn, in 2009. "I remember when we left the hospital with a memory box with a couple pictures of our daughter and thought, I feel like I'm probably the only person in the world that has to go through this. Once I started to talk to people about what I went through, I realized I wasn't the only one who had lost a baby. I just want anyone who is suffering with the loss of a baby, whether it's miscarriage, stillborn, infancy death or SIDS, you ARE NOT alone." Five years after the loss of her daughter, an idea was born. "A Walk To Remember" gives participants the chance to walk the steps that their loved one will never get the chance to take. The event will begin at the Family Place with registration at 11:30 a.m. A short opening ceremony will take place, followed by a balloon release. Balloons may be purchased for $1 and dedicated to a loved one. The walk will take place at noon, with a free barbeque to follow. Seitz Rentals and Supplies will have bouncy houses on-site for children. All proceeds from the event will be donated to the Family Place. Anyone interested in participating, can contact the Family Place at (306)8427477 or Lisa Loustal at lisa.little@sasktel.net. Last year’s event raised over $11,000.00.

Harvest time
Tracking my thanks
By Helen Waller Harvest is well underway. Over the years, I have not had to be a major part of the harvest operations around our farm. There was always more than enough help. When I reference the word ‘help’, I mean there was always enough people available to drive a sprayer, grain truck, swather and of course, a combine. I typically felt very out of the loop when it came to harvest, with seemingly not a lot to do except to raise the young children, keep the house in order, work my off-the-farm job and make meals for the workers in the field. (As if that wasn't a job in itself.) This year, things changed. I got to see the flip side of the coin. (So did the rest of our team). After one of our workers fell ill, it was now apparent that I would be required to run machinery in order to get the crop off in a timely manner. I now found myself in the drivers’ seat of a combine, spending countless hours taking the crop off. That's when I had an “ah-ha” moment, or actually several. I learned more in one harvest than I have in 15 years. I have now experienced all aspects of harvest. Here's a list of some of my “ah-ha” moments from this harvest season. • Husbands should not teach their wives to operate equipment. Never, ever, EVER. In fact, they should probably have a program in place similar to the television show “Wife Swap” where farmers can teach other wives how to operate machinery. I use to think the show was rather silly, until I starting combining. • Lunch may not seem important until you are sitting in a combine for hours and hours and hours on end looking at the same crop feed through the header. Then lunch does become the highlight of your day and thank you for drawing smiley faces on the brown paper bag. • With that said, lunch is not always the five course meal (let alone three) that so many have come to expect (or your mother made you). Times have changed and I barely got the kids fed, watered and driven to their next activity in time before I got meals out to the field. Keep in mind, I haven't eaten since this morning. You should probably buy your Mom an extra special Mother’s Day gift now that you appreciate the great food she did make you for all those years. • Breakdowns happen and no sooner do you warn someone about being careful not to get stuck or plugged, you find yourself on the CB radio asking for help yourself. It's called KARMA, but in our case it may be referred to as FARMA. Let's face it, everyone is doing their best and well, stuff happens, so be careful what you say. • The weather is out of our hands but your attitude about it is not. The rain comes when it is not wanted and sometimes the frost appears too early. Being a farmer is one of the toughest jobs on planet earth, as so many of Mother Nature’s elements are out of our control. I get it. Yet, handling it all in stride is a great lesson and example for your children, family and friends around you. Double checking the rain gauge or switching weather stations on the tv will not change this. • Thank the person, whoever it may be (your wife, your grandma - you get the idea) for taking care of the house and the children while you spend seemingly endless days in the field. We all know what a toddler can do in 15 minutes, let alone 12 hours at home by themselves. Everyone is needed at harvest to keep life running smoothly, whether it be someone to operate the machinery, the gopher, the cook or the caretaker. Everyone plays a part in the big picture. Life doesn't stop for the rest of the world at harvest. While you are on the combine, someone needs to sign your child’s agenda, brush a little one’s teeth or keep your teenager from living on their cell phone 24/7. My biggest lesson seems to be that it always gets done. No matter what, after years and years of farming, with each year looking different than the last, it always turns out. Life is funny that way. It may not go according to plan but harvest after harvest, year after year, it gets done. So enjoy the ride, in this case, the combine ride.
By Linda Wegner Tracking my thanks is the latest component of my daily walk. In order to have this make more sense, I'll describe the oval where I and my trusty cane spend time together each morning. Perched atop a plateau that overlooks the Pacific Ocean, this all weather 400 metre, rubber-asphalt running track has become a destination of choice for me; it's easy on the old bones and best of all, there are four distinct views to ponder as I complete those laps. (Well, maybe best of all is the fact that walking as well as running is an option.) Back to those views: starting out, a turn of the head
To all our farming familes be safe this harvest season. Never give up hope Last Sunday, I was supposed to come to Church with a children's story. But I had been busy with a wedding and I didn't have a children's story in my head. I decided to just say a prayer for the children. But looking out at the congregation gave me an idea. There were 3 people in green Roughrider shirts. The team was 0 for 9 games but these 3 were still wearing the team colors and hoping for a win. I told a story about never giving up hope. This is important for any sports team but tremendously important for the Roughriders. If you give up hope, then you have no chance of winning. If you think you can't win then you can't. There were 33,000 fans in the stadium, most of them wearing green and the team finally came through with a win. Hope is important in sports but even more important in life. Life is so much better when we hold onto a hope in God. It may seem that God is silent and doing nothing, but God is still present. Holding onto hope gives strength and the courage to go on when life is very difficult. Some of you are in the midst of challenging days and you don't know if you can keep going. Hold onto hope, trust in God and may God give you the strength you need for the day. Rev. Doug Loden, Calvary Baptist Church

Approaching the southern arc in this oval, the view changes to a forested area. Plans for this property include logging and the construction of a school for incoming foreign students. Harvest continues in Saskatchewan
15092JJ0
Warm and relatively dry weather has allowed producers to make good progress on harvest. Twenty-nine per cent of the crop is now combined and an additional 30 per cent is swathed or ready to straight-cut. The five-year (2010-2014) average for this time of year is 14 per cent combined and 26 per cent swathed or ready to straight-cut. Regionally, producers in the southwest are furthest advanced, having 51 per cent of the crop combined. Producers in the southeast have 45 per cent of the crop combined. Twenty per cent of the crop is combined in the west-central region; 13 per cent in the northwest; 11 per cent in the east-central region; and 10 per cent in the northeast. Rainfall this past week ranged from nil to 22 mm in some

southeastern areas. Provincially, topsoil moisture conditions on cropland are rated as three per cent surplus, 78 per cent adequate, 17 per cent short and two per cent very short. Hay land and pasture topsoil moisture conditions are rated as one per cent surplus, 67 per cent adequate, 27 per cent short and five per cent very short. Pasture conditions across the province are rated as four per cent excellent, 43 per cent good, 36 per cent fair, 14 per cent poor and three per cent very poor. At this time, crop reporters are indicating that 11 per cent of the forage crops did not get cut or baled, mainly due to lack of growth. The Ministry of Agriculture has a Forage, Feed and Custom Service listing for producers to advertise and source feed products. It is available at www.agriculture.gov.sk.ca/ FeedForageListing. Localized hail and wind has damaged some crops and there are reports of bleaching, staining or sprouting of cereal and pulse crops in some areas. Crop reporters are indicating that yields and grades are average overall. Some winter cereals are being seeded as time allows.

How do you spell relief? W-I-N. Or perhaps, D-Y-C-E. Because you couldn’t have had one without the other. Let me explain. The Saskatchewan Roughriders were 0-9 in the first half of the 2015 CFL season which led to the dismissal of General Manager Brendan Taman and head coach Corey Chamblin last week. Their replacements - on an interim basis - were former Roughrider player and Assistant GM Jeremy O’Day and Special Teams coordinator Bob Dyce, respectively. The new duo’s first game in charge of Canada’s Team would be Sunday’s Labour Day Classic XLIX at a soldout Mosaic Stadium in Regina against the 3-6 Winnipeg Blue Bombers. A few years ago the Roughriders’ marketing campaign was “It's Better In The Stands” which was an effort to get the Rider Nation off the couch and buying tickets for the games. Well, the slogan continued to ring true on Sunday as 33,427 fans packed the stadium despite a forecast of rain and it turned out to be a spectacular afternoon of Canadiana between two prairie football rivals. However, unfortunately, the game started out similarly to all the rest for the Green & White. The Blue Bombers jumped out to a 10-0 lead in the first quarter thanks in part to a muffed direct snap to Saskatchewan running back Jerome Messam which the Bombers pounced on at the Rider 20yard line. Less than a minute later it was in their endzone. But no one - that I could hear - allowed themselves to think ‘Here we go again’. Then the game changed. Rookie Rider receiver/returner Nic Demski turned the game around with a 60yard punt return touchdown midway through the
second quarter which tied the game 10-10 and Saskatchewan never trailed the rest of the game on the way to a 37-19 victory. Paradyce!! Interim coach Dyce got the Gatorade shower from players Tim Agbaje and Alex Suber in the waning moments of the contest and the stadium erupted when the clock hit 0:00. Finally! “It felt good!” Dyce said afterwards about collecting the win in his CFL debut. “But it's cold! And sticky.” If it’s true that Labour Day Weekend is the unofficial kickoff to the CFL season, then sign me up. They say that because the rest of Canada finally wakes up to the fact CFL football is on while the rest of us have known it since June. No matter. It’s a brand new season here in the Wheat Province and it's nothing but blue skies ahead
under Bob Dyce. The Riders were a different team on Sunday than they were under Corey Chamblin. Calm, resilient and composed. Make no mistake - this game was as much about Bob Dyce as it was about facing the Winnipeg Blue Bombers no matter how differently the Riders would like to frame it. “Feels great,” the Riders’ Nic Demski gushed amidst the smoke of the postgame fireworks. “Bob's such a great guy, such a great leader and we really feel a change. We’re excited to take the next step with him.” We learned it was as much about Dyce as anything because that’s what the players were talking about in the locker room afterwards. The reviews were universally positive. “Honestly Coach Dyce has been trying to hide it but he looked nervous all week,”
admitted Messam after the game. “We’re happy to get the win for him. We all love him.” There were those who said Sunday, September 6, 2015 would be an historic day in Roughrider history. Would the franchise’s fortunes change on the shoulders of Dyce and O'Day or would they lose another game, fall to 0-10, and be at perhaps the lowest point in the franchise’s 105 years? Well they got that first win. That's a start. And this tandem of O'Day and Dyce just feels right. At some point O'Day's going to have the interim tag removed and Dyce was going to be one of the candidates for the head coaching job at the end of the season anyway. Now he's got a headstart on the rest of the field and already looks like a star. And, he remains humble. “I'm happy for the guys in that room,” Dyce said afterwards. “They went through nine hard weeks of great effort. For that to materialize into a victory, I’m ecstatic about it. I’m happy for Jeremy and I’m happy for (head scout) Craig (Smith). I'm just happy. It’s probably the first time where I’m happy for myself as well. But I’m happy.” What a nice change.
