Home renamed in honour of local hero Tony BEAUMONT Hall care home in Leicester has been renamed Bradley Hall in honour of a local hero. Care home volunteer Tony Bradley, 96, who received his MBE from HRH The Queen in this year’s New Year Honours for services to the community, was invited to the care home for a community fun day recently. What Tony didn’t know was that the care home was about to be renamed in his honour, in recognition of the commitment and dedication he has shown to it and all its residents over the last five years. The newly named Bradley Hall care home is a residential and dementia care home operated by Ideal Carehomes. Tony said: “I was totally shocked and wasn’t expecting it at all. I really feel very honoured. It was such a lovely day and so many people turned up. “I had no idea what was going on and when Lee Daly (home manager) invited me to the front and told me I was the guest of honour. “I wasn’t sure what he meant, but he then revealed the new sign with my name on it which was a big surprise. “I have been caring for people in some form on another for over 50 years. It’s a way of life for me and I get so much satisfaction from it. I have really had a great life and this is such a tremendous honour.”
During the day there was a BBQ and bouncy castle for the community to enjoy and special guests were also invited from local charities and voluntary groups which Tony has supported over the years. Tony’s wife Renelle, moved into Beaumont Hall in 2017, and he has been entertaining and chatting to its residents ever since. Renelle passed away in 2020, but Tony really enjoys spending time with the residents and so he continued his visits. Tony spends two days a week at the care home, hosting afternoon teas, organising bingo games and special film shows. He also brings his dog Molly in to visit the residents and helps out with any odd jobs that need doing. Tony has no plans to stop his visits and he has lots of ideas and plans for future events and activities too. Lee added: “We are all so inspired by Tony and wanted to do something to show him just how special he is to us and so we decided to rename the care home in his honour. “Tony had absolutely no idea about this, and neither did the majority of our staff, and it has been incredibly hard to keep it all a secret but it made a wonderful surprise and we were very pleased to finally be able to reveal all at our special community fun day.”
Care provider exceeds its charity target
Magnolia Court in Golders Green held a garden party to celebrate the start of a new era following significant investment to the home. Visitors were welcomed to view the home’s new interior and take a tour, while the hospitality team provided complimentary refreshments. A pianist played as residents and guests arrived for the event and later there was singing and dancing when Morris Tamir sang and played on keyboard. General manager Octavian Stanciu said: “The home is looking better than ever after the recent investment and it was a pleasure to showcase the elegant new interior at the party. My door is always open and anyone who couldn’t make the open day is very welcome to drop by for a cup of tea any other day instead.”
A BASINGSTOKE care home provider is celebrating exceeding its fundraising target for Macmillan Cancer Support. Hartford Care’s teams chose Macmillan as their charity partner in 2019, setting a £20,000 fundraising goal for its 16 care home teams and head office to achieve. They have raised £23,346.17 in total. Hartford Care’s CEO Sean Gavin said: “We could not have picked a more challenging time to start a major fundraising campaign. But, as always, our amazing teams excelled themselves by organising events such as drive-through coffee mornings to minimise the risks during the pandemic. “I could not be prouder of all our teams and the way they exceed expectations and go the extra mile in helping others through their numerous events - especially during a time which was extremely difficult for all of us.” Fundraising activities included: n A longest day golf challenge undertaken by Sean along with three fellow golfers which raised nearly £2,500. n A ‘Tough Mudder’ which three of Hartford Care’s head office team members completed successfully. n A wide range of events organised by the 16 care homes such as a 32-mile relay run around the Isle of Wight, a sky dive, charity car washes, fetes and coffee mornings. There was also a 10-mile sponsored walk and two-day wheelchair push through the New Forest. Two team members also ‘braved the shave’ while several homes took part in Macmillan’s ‘World’s Biggest Coffee Morning’.
