LEX Leisure, subcontractor of leading operator Parkwood Leisure, in partnership with Rushcliffe Borough Council, has successfully delivered the first project in a £5.2m series of refurbishment and decarbonisation updates for its sites across Rushcliffe, continuing their journey towards carbon neutral.
The funding has enabled the replacement of Cotgrave Leisure Centre’s outdated heating and hot water systems with new modern, low carbon air source heat pumps.
These heat pump units will use electricity from renewable sources to efficiently draw heat from the air and transfer it into the swimming pool and surrounding areas, resulting in a 250 per cent to 300 per cent increase in energy efficiency, ensuring the leisure centre operates at its best for the local community. In addition, solar panels installed on the roof will generate up to 55,000KWH of electricity a year, saving up to £25,000 on running costs – the equivalent to running power for 20 houses.
Lex Leisure contract manager Adam Groves said: “It has been exciting to see this project come together and to see
such a dramatic improvement in the site’s energy efficiency.
“Working with both Leisure Energy and JRD Design and Build, we’ve been able to minimise disruption to customers, and it’s great to welcome users back into the fabulous refurbished, low energy centre.”
The refurbishment goes beyond decarbonisation to improve accessibility and the overall member experience for the local community, including:
n Installation of a Changing Places toilet.
n A revamped reception area with widened corridors and improved layouts.
n Upgraded fitness spaces, including a dedicated spin studio and expanded dance studio with advanced lighting and sound systems.
n Modernised poolside changing rooms to enhance comfort for swimmers.
Building on the success of Cotgrave, the next phase of this £5.2m investment will see works begin at Keyworth Leisure Centre in the summer.
The refurbishment was supported by investment from the Department for Culture, Media and Sport Swimming Pool Support Fund, the UK Shared Prosperity Fund and the Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme.

AFTER a relentless 59 days (and nights) of ocean rowing, a hardy trio of amateur rowers have just completed a 3,000-mile journey across the Atlantic Ocean.
Taylor Made Designs and Blu Leisure couldn’t be more proud.
After weeks of non-stop rowing, a TMD-sponsored ocean rowing crew completed their gruelling 3,000 mile ocean crossing.
Hailing from Christchurch, Ebb & Flow was one of just 40 crews competing in this year’s World’s Toughest Row competition.
The three rowers started their voyage on December 11, leaving from La Gomera in the Canaries.
On February 8 they finally crossed the finish line at English Harbour in Antigua.
Ebb & Flow’s transatlantic row raised funds for four charities: Teenage Cancer Trust, Blesma, Ellen McArthur Cancer Trust and Oarsome Chance.
Taylor Made Designs and Blu Leisure were delighted to sponsor the project.
“These guys were out on the water for a gruelling eight weeks,” said James Taylor, global sales director of Taylor Made Designs.
“They spent Christmas Day and New Year’s Day in the middle of the ocean.
“They battled through brutal seas, wild weather, physical and mental exhaustion … and they’ve done it all for charity.
“We couldn’t be prouder of them. What an amazing achievement.”

FOR THE past 14 years, Pulse Fitness has had the privilege of working alongside the Ministry of Defence to provide state-ofthe-art fitness solutions tailored to the unique needs of military personnel.
Supporting all branches of the UK’s armed forces – including the Royal Navy, British Army, and Royal Air Force – Pulse Fitness has installed and serviced equipment designed to meet the diverse and demanding training regimens of service life.
At Bicester Garrison, Pulse Fitness played a key role in transforming an ageing facility into a cutting-edge fitness space, enhancing both physical and mental wellbeing.
Recognising the evolving demands of military service, Pulse Fitness adopted a creative and adaptable approach to ensure the refurbished facility met the needs of its users.
A former NAAFI building was reimagined into a high-quality training environment, from initial design and installation to ongoing maintenance. The upgraded facility now features modern flooring, a sled track, a versatile 16-bay rig, and a
full suite of fitness accessories. New cardiovascular equipment—including ski ergs, bike ergs, and rowers—offers a
range of training options to help personnel maintain peak fitness for the challenges of service life.
Beyond physical conditioning, Pulse Fitness understands the vital connection between fitness and mental health.
The pressures of military life can be immense, making accessible, high-quality training spaces essential not just for physical readiness but also for mental resilience.
Phil Campion, military-focused mental health ambassador for Pulse Fitness, said: “You should never underestimate how important mental health is.
“I’ve always been told a fit body will aid a fit mind.

PULSE Fitness has announced the launch of its ‘Everyday Warriors’ campaign in partnership with Ian Marsden, a two-time Paralympian, champion powerlifter and former Sports Personality of the Year.
This initiative represents a significant step forward in the innovative fitness equipment provider’s mission to create spaces that empower individuals of all abilities to train side-by-side, eliminating barriers and fostering inclusivity in gyms across the country.
Disabled athletes navigate challenges every day, often facing obstacles in fitness spaces that lack consideration for their needs. Pulse Fitness is determined to change this narrative with its Inclusive Range
of fitness equipment, designed to provide an accessible and empowering workout experience for all.
“The launch of our ‘Everyday Warriors’ campaign is a call to action for the fitness industry to break down the barriers that prevent gyms from being truly inclusive spaces,” said Liam Lister, director of regional sales at Pulse Fitness.
“Everyone deserves equal access to fitness opportunities and our Inclusive Range is not just about meeting minimum accessibility requirements – it’s about creating an environment where everyone feels seen, supported, and able to achieve their fitness goals. We’re looking to continue to innovate and make the most inclusive fitness equipment
possible.”
As part of this campaign, Ian has joined Pulse Fitness as the official inclusive line design consultant.
With a storied career as a Paralympian and deep understanding of the unique challenges faced by disabled gymgoers, he will work closely with the Pulse Fitness team to review refine and continue to innovate the equipment line.
“Fitness should unite us, not segregate us,” Ian added. “I’m thrilled to partner with Pulse Fitness to ensure that their gym equipment caters to a wider range of needs.
“This will enable disabled athletes to train confidently and independently in the same spaces as everyone else.
“The amazing thing about the Inclusive Line equipment is that it looks like a standard machine, but features like the swing seat allow those in wheelchairs, like myself, to easily move it out of the way and train. Together, we’re redefining what inclusion looks like in the fitness world.”
The Inclusive Range by Pulse Fitness currently consists of 18 pieces of strength and cardio machines, boasting features tailored to the needs of disabled users, including swing seats to allow wheelchair users to seamlessly wheel into position, multiple adjustment handles to accommodate limited limb mobility and high-visibility colour schemes for users with visual impairments.
SPORT for Confidence CIC, in partnership with Essex County Council, has completed the rollout of its pioneering Reconnect delivery model across Essex with the launch of the programme at the Lord Butler Fitness and Leisure Centre in Saffron Walden.
Reconnect blends the expertise of sports coaches and occupational therapists to provide support to adults living with physical disabilities, learning disabilities, and/or long-term health conditions, as well as their carers.
“We have been providing services to West Essex since September 2024, but without a dedicated facility,” said Rob Walker, clinical lead and senior occupational therapist at Sport for Confidence.
“By offering Reconnect a home at the Lord Butler Fitness and Leisure Centre, we’re making therapeutic physical activity accessible to even more people, enabling them to enjoy the benefits of movement, connection, and belonging.
“Our model delivers way
beyond physical activity, creating opportunities for skill-building and friendships that extend into participants’ everyday lives. With Reconnect, we’re continuing to break down barriers to participation in physical activity, levelling the playing field for those who need it most.”
The programme has launched at the leisure centre with weekly sessions offering a variety of activities all tailored to the needs of those participating.
Korun Mehmet, head of coaching at Sport for Confidence,
added: “The programme framework is flexible and adaptable. As we welcome participants, we’ll start to shape the activities and schedule to meet their preferences and needs, providing a tailored solution that benefits everyone.”
Managed by 1Life Management Solutions, part of the Parkwood Group, a lifestyle and management solutions company on a mission to enhance lives through health and wellbeing, physical activity, sport and learning, the Lord Butler Fitness
and Leisure Centre, provides the perfect home for Reconnect in West Essex.
Centre manager Alan Carter said: “We are delighted to be able to welcome the Sport for Confidence team to our centre. At 1Life, we create opportunities for everyone to reap the many physical and mental benefits being activity has to offer.
“Reconnect is a tried and tested programme that has been delivering excellent health and wellbeing outcomes across other areas of the county so it’s fantastic to now be able to now offer it to our community as well.”
Reconnect builds on the success of a two-year test-andlearn pilot conducted across Essex, which demonstrated the transformative impact of integrating physical activity into health and social care systems. Independent evaluation by the University of Essex confirmed the programme’s potential, with findings confirming that embedding physical activity into health and social care could deliver £58.72 of social value for every £1 invested.
MYTIME Active is one of the first leisure operators in the country to be awarded ukactive’s new mark of excellence, The Active Standard, demonstrating its commitment to ensuring quality, safety and inclusivity for customers and staff at its leisure centres.
TAS, launched by ukactive last November, is designed to give customers confidence, knowing leisure providers showing the TAS mark are taking their health and wellbeing, as well as their safety, seriously.
Mytime Active is an independent charity and social enterprise that operates leisure facilities across the country, ploughing any surpluses made by the business directly back into its local communities.
Mytime Active was one of eight leisure operators involved in testing the scheme during a pilot phase of TAS. It followed the successful launch of Mytime Active’s Musculoskeletal Health Hubs project to support people living with
chronic joint pain, which forms part of a two-year research project by ukactive.
Steve May, operations director at Mytime Active, said: “Our family-friendly facilities aim to support every segment of our communities, from children and parents to golfers and older people, on their journey to a more active lifestyle.
“Achieving the new TAS certification gives us the opportunity to actively validate the quality of our facilities and our adherence with industry regulations to customers in a meaningful way, as well as the healthcare partners who refer people to us for a wide range of support needs.”
TAS accreditation is open to any sport, fitness or leisure facility in the UK that is a member of ukactive and is achieved through a 40-question independent assessment with the sector’s health and safety and quality management expert, Right Directions.
It covers health and safety practices, professional standards, safeguarding procedures

and data protection processes.
Steve added: “Boosting the confidence of the public around entering health, fitness and leisure facilities to enhance their health, wellbeing and physical activity opportunities is a priority for us, and the TAS quality mark will support this aim by ensuring all facilities, big or small, are operating to the same high benchmarks.”
TAS has been four years in development by ukactive in partnership with leading standards professionals and organisations across the UK and Europe.
Huw Edwards, CEO of ukactive, said: “Demand for our nation’s fitness and leisure facilities is growing rapidly as more and more people across the UK prioritise physical activity for their health and wellbeing.
“The Active Standard will help more people to feel confident that they can enjoy all the benefits of being active in a safe and inclusive environment.”

By Dean Godfrey
IF YOU run a health club, generating leads are the lifeblood of growth and success.
They’re the starting point, the first step toward turning potential customers into loyal clients. But what happens when you get all these leads and can’t close the sale?
Simply put, without successfully converting those leads into actual sales, all your effort and resources in generating them are wasted.
The role of leads in sales
Leads are individuals that have shown some interest in your product or service.
This interest could come in the form of filling out a contact form on your website, attending for a casual visit, or simply engaging with your brand on social media.
These leads represent potential business opportunities. But, as any experienced gym operator will tell you, generating leads is just the first step in a much larger sales process.
Once you have the leads, the next step is to nurture and build relationships with them, ultimately guiding them to a point where they join your club.
The challenge of closing Generating leads might seem like the hardest part, but for many businesses, the true struggle begins after the lead is captured.
So, why is closing the sale so
Dean Godfrey
1. Lack of relationship building. One of the biggest reasons many salespeople fail to close deals is the inability to build trust and rapport with leads. A lead might show initial interest, but if they don’t feel confident in your ability to deliver value, they’re less likely to commit to a sale.
2. Poor follow-up. In many cases, leads will only convert after a few touchpoints. If a salesperson doesn’t follow up consistently or forgets to nurture a lead, the sale is likely to fall through the cracks. A strong followup strategy is crucial to keep the momentum going and to remind the lead why they showed interest in the first place.
3. Ineffective sales techniques. Sometimes, the issue is a lack of sales skills. Understanding the fitness goals of your lead and showing how your club is the solution is
a vital aspect of closing the deal. Salespeople who fail to listen, fail to personalise their pitch, or focus too much on their clubs features without addressing the lead’s goals often struggle to close sales.
4. Price sensitivity. Sometimes, even if you have a high-quality club and build a great relationship with a lead, price can be a deal breaker. It’s essential to demonstrate that the value you offer outweighs the cost.
The consequences of failing to close When leads aren’t converted into sales, it can have a ripple effect throughout your business.
Here’s why:
5. Wasted marketing efforts. Marketing campaigns, whether they’re paid ads, social media efforts, or leaflet drops, are designed to generate leads. But if those leads are not sold, the marketing spend becomes wasted.
6. Lost revenue. Leads are potential revenue streams. Without closing sales, you miss out on the opportunity to increase revenue and profit.
7. Decreased team morale. Sales teams that are unable to close deals may experience frustration and burnout. When the leads are abundant, but the conversion rate is low, morale can dip.
8. Damaged reputation. A failure to close sales doesn’t just affect the bottom line. It can also harm your reputation. Leads who’ve engaged with you but didn’t make a
purchase may tell others about their experience.
How to close more sales
The question then becomes: How can you increase your chances of closing those deals?
Firstly you need to develop strong relationships and focus on building trust and a genuine connection with your leads.
Ask open-ended questions, actively listen, and provide personalised solutions so that you can understand the lead’s needs. Take the time to fully understand what your leads are looking for.
You must be conscious of the need to offer value and always be ready to demonstrate how your product or service solves the lead’s problem.
Finally, you need to be patient as not every lead will convert right away. Give your leads time to think about their decision and don’t rush them into a sale. If you can’t get them to join today then you must master the follow-up, consistent follow-up is crucial. Stay in touch with your leads through emails, calls, and personalised messages.
Leads are critical to any sales process, but they don’t mean much if you can’t close the sale.
The point of generating leads is to turn them into paying customers, and the process of doing so requires skill, patience, and persistence. n Dean Godfrey is the chief operating officer of Creative Fitness Marketing.
INNERVA has appointed Ben Ward as strategic sector development manager.
Ben has spent the last three years at Pulse Fitness as head of key accounts and approved partners.
Before that he worked for six years at Life Fitness managing key accounts.
A champion of accessible exercise, he has worked extensively with operators to make their spaces more inclusive. With a strong track record in developing strategic partnerships, Ben is set to play a crucial role in expanding Innerva’s reach, strengthening the company’s international distributor relationships and developing new opportunities in Europe.
He said: “I’ve been a fan of Innerva for a long time, what they do is truly unique.
“Currently, 15 per cent of the
population use a gym, and it’s a fairly predictable demographic.
“That leaves a huge opportunity for operators in both the public and private sector to reach people who have traditionally been underserved.
“Innerva bridges this gap by providing solutions that make physical activity more inclusive.”
In his new role, Ben will focus on expanding Innerva’s work in the health sector following the company’s involvement in the groundbreaking NHS-backed pilot for stroke rehabilitation.
He will also use his previous experience in the retirement sector to drive power-assisted exercise solutions in retirement communities.
“The work Innerva is doing in research and data supports operators in widening their reach,”
Ben added.
“By introducing power-assisted
exercise alongside traditional fitness models, businesses can successfully engage with older adults and those with long term health conditions. I love the brand and the people, and I’m excited to be part of this journey.”
Managing director Jon Hymus said: “We are delighted to welcome someone of Ben’s calibre and experience to our team to help drive our growth.
“The UK is evolving – our population is ageing and more people are living with multiple health conditions.
“This shift presents a great opportunity for health and fitness operators to play a pivotal role in supporting active ageing.
“By providing innovative solutions that improve quality of life for older adults, operators can expand their customer base and also help relieve pressure on health and social care services.”

ESCAPE Fitness has unveiled
Octagon LOAD or “LOAD”, a groundbreaking strength and functional training system.
Developed from years of industry expertise and global insights, LOAD addresses critical challenges faced by fitness facilities, offering a versatile, safe and engaging, resultsdriven solution that meets the rising demand for strength training.
Matthew Januszek, Escape Fitness USA, CEO, said: “Strength training is no longer the reserve of elite athletes or bodybuilders; it’s a cornerstone of fitness for people of all ages and abilities.
“After three years of research and conversations with leading operators, athletes, and coaches, built on a lifetime of experience working in the fitness industry,
“Escape Fitness has created a pioneering circuit-based system for the general population that efficiently stimulates muscle.”
Designed and manufactured at the Escape Technologies facility in the UK by the firm’s in-house team of specialist engineers, LOAD combines the benefits of traditional plateloaded machines with advanced variable resistance technology.
High-tensile resistance bands promote continuous muscle
engagement throughout movements, particularly at the end range of motion, maximising strength gains.
All movements are performed in a standing position which activates the entire kinetic chain.
This holistic approach builds strength using natural movement sequences, promoting superior muscle growth and strength efficiently and safely.
“The hypertrophy benefits are outstanding,” added Matthew.
“Contributions from the variable resistance training include optimised muscle engagement, consistent muscle activation and faster muscle fatigue, all help to breakthrough performance plateaus by challenging muscles in new ways whilst also limiting the risk of injury.
“The fact that all movements are performed in a standing position means glutes, abs, quads and hamstrings are also engaged – optimising training time and providing a full body workout.”
LOAD is engineered to cater for everyone. Its design supports multiple stance positions—neutral, split, staggered and single-leg as well as various grip adjustments, enabling users to target specific muscle groups while enhancing
stability and strength.
The ability to train across the entire force-velocity curve allows users to develop both power and speed, setting LOAD apart from traditional strength equipment.
Its compact design is ideal for facilities with limited floor space, while innovative features appeal to a wide range of users.
Safety is a key focus of LOAD. The variable resistance system allows controlled load adjustments, minimising injury risks and ensuring progressive overload for continuous improvement.
This makes LOAD an excellent option for injury rehabilitation and for older adults or beginners who may feel intimidated by traditional strength equipment.
For gym operators, personal trainers and fitness stakeholders, LOAD represents an investment that delivers measurable benefits. It’s not just about lifting weights—it’s about training smarter, safer and more effectively.
By integrating LOAD into training facilities, operators can meet the growing demand for strength training while providing an unparalleled member experience.
The Octagon LOAD range launches with five ‘STATIONS’: LIFT, DRIVE,
ROW, SQUAT and PRESS. All stations can be standalone or connected, with options to integrate equipment storage.
The incorporation of resistance bands enables quick and easy resistance adjustments between sets and a reduction in the number of plates that need to be changed and stored.
Frames are manufactured from a mild steel box section BSEN10025 with handles made from 304/1.4301 stainless steel.
This makes LOAD ideal for indoor studios.
An optional galvanised paint finish is available, providing full weatherproofing for outdoor use. Frames can also be fully customised to reflect operator branding and colour palette.
Matthew added: “Working with one of the world’s most experienced and respected fitness educators, Tommy Matthews, we have developed a comprehensive suite of LOAD education materials available both in-person and digitally.
“We are also developing content for our MARS digital training system, so users will be able to access digital content anytime to help them execute movements safely and effectively.

RUNNING a gym means constantly balancing member engagement and revenue generation.
One of the most effective ways to improve cash flow and boost retention is by offering flexible, hassle-free payment options.
Today’s members expect convenience, and that includes how they pay for their memberships, classes, and in-gym purchases.
The easier it is for them to complete a transaction, the more likely they are to stay loyal to your gym or club.
That’s where ClubRight Pay Card comes in. Providing a streamlined, secure, and cost-effective payment solution that eliminates friction, reduces admin, and ensures your gym gets paid on time.
Let’s explore how flexible payment methods, powered by ClubRight Pay Card, can help you increase your gym’s revenue and reduce churn.
Predictable revenue with recurring payments
One of the best ways to generate consistent, reliable income is through automated recurring payments.
When members sign up with ClubRight Pay Card, payments can be processed automatically each billing cycle with no manual action required.
This ensures:
n No missed payments due to forgetfulness.
n Predictable cash flow for your business.
n A frictionless experience for members, keeping them engaged and reducing cancellations.
With ClubRight Pay Card, recurring payments are seamlessly integrated into the ClubRight software, meaning less admin for you and a better experience for your members.
Reduce churn with secure card-on-file billing
Keeping a payment card securely
stored on file is another gamechanger for increasing gym revenue.
With ClubRight Pay Card, your members’ details are safely encrypted, ensuring secure, uninterrupted billing.

MIKE Farrar is stepping down as chair of ukactive after being appointed interim Permanent Secretary of the Department of Health in Northern Ireland.
He will be taking up his new role in April following his final appearance as ukactive chair at Active Uprising 2025, which takes place on March 6 at the QEII Centre in Westminster.
Mike has been chair of ukactive since taking over from Baroness Tanni Grey-Thompson in June 2022 and has helped to grow the sector’s relationship with the NHS and care services, including the co-design of a new blueprint for integrated care systems.
He said: “It has been a privilege to be chair of ukactive and play a part in shaping the future of this fantastic organisation and sector.
“I wish to thank my colleagues, our partners and all ukactive’s
members for supporting this important period in our journey and strategy for growth.
“I am confident that I will leave the Board, the organisation and the sector in a strong position to continue our growth and realise our vision for physical activity in the UK.”
Mike’s new role will see him replacing the current Permanent Secretary, Peter May, who is retiring from the Northern Ireland Civil Service.
Mike’s previous roles in the NHS in England include chief executive of the NHS Confederation, head of primary care at the Department of Health in London, and chief executive of health authorities in North West England, Yorkshire and Tees.
He also served as vice and interim chair of Sport England between 2009 to 2012, and chair
of Swim England from 2015 to 2020.
Huw Edwards, CEO of ukactive, added: “Mike has been a tremendous ally for the organisation and the sector, instrumental in driving forward the work to integrate the physical activity sector with the health and care sector.
“We are sad to see him leave but we are extremely grateful for his stewardship over the past three years and wish him all the best in his new role.”
The recruitment of a new ukactive chair will be overseen by treasurer Katy Cox, who will also act as interim chair until Mike’s successor is appointed.
The ukactive Board will agree a recruitment process for a permanent new chair and will provide an updated timeline in due course.
ukactive has announced the findings of its first Equality, Diversity and Inclusion self-assessment tool and report.
The findings reveal the current EDI performance of a sample of organisations across the physical activity sector and their ability to deliver the most inclusive service.
The report, called ‘Progressing the EDI agenda’, marks the end of the first year of consultation using the self-assessment, which was completed by 68 organisations, including facility operators from both the private and public sectors, as well as other providers and also suppliers.
Timothy Mathias, strategic lead for equality, diversity and inclusion at ukactive, said: “Following the first year of our EDI self-assessment tool, it is clear that while the sector is moving in the right direction, there is still much work to do to drive progress on this agenda.
“This self-assessment tool provides our members with simple measures and advice to improve their approach to equality, diversity and inclusion, and is also helping us to track the sector’s progress.
“We want the health, social and wellbeing benefits of an active lifestyle to be felt across the entire population, and today’s report provides a useful marker to understand what more can be done to make our sector’s facilities, services and products as accessible and inclusive as possible.”
Supported by ukactive strategic
partners, Future Fit and the Swimming Teachers’ Association, the report shows that based on the sample, the sector scores within the ‘EDI activator’ category.
Participants responded to 40 questions, for which they received a personalised EDI score that signposted them towards resources to support their ongoing development and improvement.
To provide benefit to the wider sector, the scores were then anonymised and aggregated to provide a sectoral score indicating how inclusive the industry is, based on this initial sample.
Through this work, ukactive aims to increase understanding and insight into the sector’s relationship
with inclusion; identify where improvements need to be made and where requirements for support lie; and recognise and share examples of good practice.
Main findings:
n The sector sits in the ‘EDI Activator’ category, with an average score of 47 per cent. This category is defined as ‘demonstrating a commitment to the EDI agenda through a good knowledge and activation on EDI through utilising strong programmes and initiatives.
n ‘Workforce and training’ was the highest scoring category (averaging 55 per cent) across the selfassessment submissions, suggesting the sector is doing well in educating and supporting the workforce in EDI.
n 71 per cent say their business plan or strategy contains references to EDI, suggesting there is a good integration of EDI to support the objectives of the organisation.
n 29 per cent say they do not have a shared purpose with EDI, but 18 per cent have a clear, published statement with their ambitions and goals on the agenda. This suggests more work can be undertaken to define exactly what EDI means for organisations, the benefits, and how it can be achieved practically.
n 76 per cent say EDI helps to influence participation or engagement growth with their products, provision and services.
n 80 per cent can identify gaps in their provision for underrepresented or underserved groups, suggesting that the ambition to develop and grow audiences is supported by EDI. ukactive wants more members to utilise the self-assessment toolkit to ensure a fully representative sample contribute to the next report. ukactive’s Vision 2030 strategy set out an ambition for fitness and leisure facilities to engage more than five million new members from a greater diversity of backgrounds by 2030.

Since their initial partnership in April 2023, which saw Funxtion’s dynamic content integrated into EGYM’s Trainer and Member Apps, the two companies have continuously unlocked new opportunities in the fitness space.
By focusing on a “better together” approach, Funxtion and EGYM are driving innovation in collaboration with some of the world’s largest fitness operators, including Fitness First, World Gym, The Gym Group, and leading YMCA’s.

With Funxtion and EGYM, gym members are empowered to achieve their fitness goals with

GLOBAL fitness franchise Body
Fit Training has hit the ground running so far in 2025, kicking off the year celebrating a trio of major milestones.
The brand has officially landed in Norway with the launch of BFT Oslo – the first studio under the recently signed Scandinavian Master Agreement with BFT International – with strong membership numbers highlighting the demand for world-class group fitness.
Closer to home, BFT Battersea is celebrating its secondary anniversary, testament to the thriving fitness community their team has built in south London.
And BFT’s growth on UK soil doesn’t stop there, as new franchisees Andy Gilhooley and fiancée Teresa sign an agreement to bring the brand to the Epping area later this year.
For Cameron Falloon, founder of BFT, the brand’s expansion is evidence of its global appeal.
He said: “It’s always exciting to see BFT breaking new ground, and the momentum we’re seeing in Scandinavia and the UK highlights the ongoing strength of our model and community. 2025 is shaping up to be a big year.”
BFT international has officially arrived in Scandinavia with the successful launch of BFT Oslo, the first studio under the region’s master franchise agreement.
A strong community is already forming, with the studio opening
with an impressive 174 members.
“Opening BFT Oslo has been an exciting challenge and seeing the energy and enthusiasm from our members already has been hugely rewarding,” added Tage Flugeim, master franchisee for BFT Scandinavia.
“This is just the beginning. We can’t wait to grow the BFT community across the region.”
The second piece of exciting news for BFT International –and talking of twos – is BFT Battersea’s second anniversary.
Opened in February 2023 as the second UK studio after BFT Leicester, the studio has quickly become a real hub of the community in south London.
Rounding out BFT’s trio of
recent exciting milestones, the franchise footprint is expanding again, with a new agreement for BFT Epping.
Signed in December, Andy and fiancée Teresa are bringing their passion for fitness and the community to Essex.
Andy, who will be the owneroperator, comes from a background in managing large restaurants but has always held a deep love for fitness.
“I really got into training a couple of years ago, which was when I saw an ad for BFT – something about it just clicked and I started following the brand,” he said.
“I continued to explore fitness as a full-time career, working towards getting my fitness instructor
and PT qualifications, and last summer Teresa and I decided the time was right to open our own studio.
“What stood out to us about BFT was the science behind the training – it’s not just a workout, it’s a structured programme designed for real results,” added Teresa.
“Another standout for us was BFT’s incredible sense of community. You only need to look at their social media to see how important that connection is, and it’s clear in the way the team operate too.”
The couple recently flew out to Australia for franchisee bootcamp training – fittingly on Valentine’s Day – and plan to lock in the perfect location upon their return to the UK.
“While Epping is the target, we’re also exploring nearby suburbs to ensure we find the ideal space to bring the studio to life,” added Andy.
“As we continue to expand both locally and internationally, it’s humbling to witness the incredible growth and impact BFT is having on fitness communities worldwide,” added Cameron.
“I’m very proud to have built such a strong sense of connection and support, both in terms of our global franchise network but within every studio too– it’s that shared commitment to empowering people that will drive us forward.”
THE new leisure centre for Kingston town centre is one step closer to reality as planning permission has been granted for the project.
The approved design will offer a variety of activities that communities have requested, housed in a sustainably designed building.
The centre will feature a 25m x 8 lane swimming pool, a training and teaching pool, a new health suite, gym, cycling and activity studios, sports hall, squash courts, soft play area and café.
Accessibility and inclusivity are key aspects of the project. It will create new pedestrian links into the town centre, alongside a range of landscaped public spaces throughout the scheme, as well as a new and improved play area.
Councillor Alison Holt, portfolio holder for economic development and leisure, said: “Gaining planning permission is a huge step forward, and we are excited to get on and deliver the new centre that meets the highest standards of quality, sustainability and accessibility, and meets the needs of our communities.
“We are moving swiftly towards putting a spade in the ground, and are on the final stretch of the procedures needed on a project of this scale, so that we can bring forward a fantastic new facility for all
in the borough.”
Final committee approval for the construction contract will be sought in the near future. If granted, construction is expected to begin shortly afterwards, with the new building set to open in Spring 2027.
In a notable change from the
previous project, construction experts Pellikaan have been involved much earlier in the process to provide better assurances around costs and scheduling as the project progresses.
Designed by award-winning architects Roberts Limbrick, the project continues to be overseen by Alliance Leisure, procured through the UK Leisure Framework, which is owned by Denbighshire Leisure Ltd. They have assembled the expertise needed to deliver the project, including project management from Hadron Consulting.
Tom Fairey, development director at Alliance Leisure, added: “We are delighted that this hugely significant project has now taken another large step towards being delivered for Kingston.
“We are looking forward to continuing at pace through the final stage of pre-construction, and working with our expert partners to deliver this exciting new centre that meets the needs of the borough for many years to come.”
