FUNXTION raised €5.8million in equity capital from their current shareholders and Lexar Partners in August.

“Funxtion are leaders in the digital transformation of the fitness industry worldwide, and the founders’ product and vision support our passion for investing in businesses that use innovation to help people live healthier lives,” added Sander van Woerden, founding partner at Lexar Partners.

Joel Attwal, founder of Fitalike, said: “The past few years have very much disrupted how we live, work, and play, and many of us are struggling to settle back into an exercise routine. “However, staying fit is more important than ever, with increasing amounts of research finding close links between exercise levels and disease prevalence. “We can’t afford to let the pandemic throw us off track. It’s time to get back to it, put ourselves first, and support each other as we all strive to become better, stronger, healthier versions of ourselves”.

Fitalike was born from its founder’s own mental health journey, when he was encouraged by a friend to head to the gym. He gave it a try and discovered just how much a good friend and a good workout session, could help. He decided to combine the two into one comprehensive app to help others. Individuals can use the app to find new friends or personal trainers, while professionals can sign up to reach new clients and earn extra income. For a limited time, the Fitalike Premium Plan is available for free in order to give back to the community.

PELOTON Commercial has welcomed a new Precor StairClimber to its premium fitness equipment portfolio. The Precor StairClimber is designed to cater for exercisers of all shapes, sizes and fitness levels with thoughtful, easy-to-negotiate step-on and step-off platforms, its trade-marked Dynamic Step Control – which creates a consistent step for each exerciser’s size and speed – and a range of between 20 and 165 steps per minute. It also has a unique design feature that protects both the machine and users’ personalAnythingbelongings.droppedthrough a gap in the steps falls onto the ‘lost item slide’ and is returned to the user at the foot of the StairClimber, rather than getting lost in the workings of the machine. Part of Precor’s 800 line of products, the StairClimber is available in both Black Pearl or Storm Grey colourways to match Precor’s other cardio and strength equipment.TheStairClimber, which is the only USmade StairClimber, has been three years inItdevelopment.wasputthrough its paces with testing beyond industry standards, negotiating 30 different assessments and more than 10,000 hours of lab and field trials pre launch to ensure its durable, high-performance components withstand the test of time.

The Mental Health Foundation advocates for exercise as a way to enhance mental health, with even short 10-minute bursts of activity known to have a positive impact on mood and energy.

The launch of Fitalike comes at a time when exercise levels are notoriously low. Reports show that physical activity dropped by one third during the pandemic.

ANYONE needing a little extra support to hit the gym can now tap into the benefits of a good workout and a great friend with the launch of a new community-minded app. Fitalike is a dynamic new fitness, sports, and wellbeing app that matches users with other like-minded individuals, or with professional trainers and coaches who can help them achieve their own fitness goals. The app makes it easy to find new workout buddies, locate local trainers and coaches, and share personal achievements and fitness journeys, providing extra motivation and turning what could feel like a chore into a fun, encouraging and inspiring community.

“Hyper-personalised content is the future of the fitness industry,” aid Ernst de Neef, co-founder and CEO of Funxtion. “By offering customised, data-powered fitness content, gyms can appeal to their members on a more personal level.”Theequity capital will also go towards enriching their digital fitness content and marketing and sales to rapidly expand Funxtion’s presence in their current markets and new territories, including the United States. Funxtion is excited to be backed by Lexar Partners, the growth equity investment firm focused on the digital world of tomorrow that are enthused about the technological market opportunities in the fitness industry.

Funxtion fuelled by €5.8m investment

And while things are beginning to return to normal, research from Sport England finds that many aspects –including feelings of anxiety and a disruption to habit – are preventing people from restarting their sport activities. Fitalike is designed to make it easier and more enjoyable to exercise and focus on health, with help from new friends.

Scott Trinder, Peloton Commercial UK sales leader – clubs and other verticals, said: “Our premium StairClimber turns small steps into giant leaps, enabling operators to stay one step ahead thanks to a range of important benefits. “It’s all about our vision to ensure fitness is foremost by providing the best fitness experience possible, whether that’s ease of use for the exerciser, with the largest step surface in the industry or reliability and simplicity for the operator, through features including Dynamic Step Control™, an Active Status Light and a maintenance-free driver system based on our proven Elliptical components.”

The Amsterdam-based company will heavily invest in the intelligence of their platform, particularly in the areas of data science, machine learning, and artificial intelligence to help gym operators provide hyperpersonalised member experiences.

“We are pleased to support Funxtion in their plans to accelerate the innovation of their platform and to grow 10x in the next few years.”

Attwal hopes that Fitalike will play a significant role not only in boosting physical health, but in improving mental health and wellbeing, too. Reports of mental health issues are on the rise. In 2019, mental health conditions affected roughly 10 per cent of the UK population. By 2021, this had almost doubled.
