ABC WELCOMES BACK“DANCING WITH THE STARS”
The iconic dance competition, which has been going strong since 2005 pairing celebrities with professional dancers, is back for Season 32 on ABC (Tuesdays beginning Sept. 26) with plenty of familiar faces as well as some new ones. Carrie Ann Inaba, Bruno Tonioli and Derek Hough run the judges table, following the retirement and subsequent passing of beloved judge Len Goodman, who died just three days short of his 79th birthday. Previous host Tyra Banks is moving on to different projects, and Alfonso Ribeiro will replace her as host, with professional dancer Julianne Hough cohosting in the skybox. “Both Julianne and I have a love of the show,” Ribeiro said. “I have been a huge fan of the show from the very beginning. I’ve done it from many different positions: as a celebrity, as a guest performer, as a judge and now emcee on the floor. I’ve kind of done it all.”
Though the show has remained relatively the same in its format since the outset, Ribeiro shared that Season 31 (which only streamed on Disney+) was a bit more challenging behind the scenes and he is looking forward
to DWTS returning to ABC. “Last season was probably the most tense working environment for me in that there were also no commercial breaks. Because of that, there’s no time to do anything other than be onstage.”
So how is Ribeiro preparing for his new role? “It’s all about being prepared for anything to happen. So lots of little things that as a host you have to be aware of. That’s well outside of just delivering the dialogue. It’s week to week,” he explained. “You don’t know what’s going to happen in live television, who’s going to be there, who’s going to be gone, what kind of spots are opening up. There’s not a lot of lead time on any of it. That’s the beautiful aspect of live TV, that energy of it just keeps going and you’re on the train and you don’t stop until it reaches its destination.”
Celebs competing this season include actors Alyson Hannigan, Matt Walsh, Mira Sorvino and Barry Williams, reality TV stars Ariana Madix and Charity Lawson, model/ actor Tyson Beckford, singer Jason Mraz and NFL star Adrian Peterson. — Zhanna Slor

A QUICK RUNDOWN OF WHAT TO WATCH THIS MONTH
FRASIER RETURNS!
Who Will And Won’t Be Joining Him For His Next Chapter?
Kelsey GrammerFRASIER
Thursday, Oct. 12 on Paramount+ Tuesday, Oct. 17 on CBS (First two episodes only on CBS, at least for now)
RETURNING SERIES!
What a welcome return to the airways! Dr. Frasier Crane (Kelsey Grammer), a psychiatrist and Seattle radio personality who soothingly helped on-air callers with their personal dilemmas, is back in business.
The original Emmy darling aired on NBC from 1993 to 2004, and chronicled the life of the doctor, who had plenty of his own troubles to contend with, from his dating life to his challenging family. The series’ cast of colorful characters was indeed its charm — Frasier’s hardened retired cop father, Martin (the late John Mahoney), who lived with him along with his Jack Russell terrier Eddie, and his competitive practicing psychiatrist little brother Niles (David Hyde Pierce) made for a family dynamic worth studying.
“[Frasier Crane has] lived a kind of a parallel life with me,” Grammer shared with The Times when the series return was announced. “Now we’ve found our way back to one another. This character, who is obviously fictional, has a life outside of mine that is just as believable and palpable as the one I’ve actually lived — and I’m good at playing him. We were funny together.”
The 10-episode new season was filmed in front of a live audience at Paramount Studios in Los Angeles and follows Frasier in the next chapter of his life
as he returns to Boston, where we were first introduced to him on Cheers. When we last left Frasier, we thought he boarded a plane to start a new job in San Francisco, but really he landed in Chicago determined to give love a second chance with Charlotte (Laura Linney). In Boston he has new challenges to face, new relationships to forge and an old dream or two to finally fulfill.
While David Hyde Pierce is not returning, Nicholas Lyndhurst is joining the cast as Frasier’s college buddy and now university professor Alan Cornwall.
“British, boozy and larger than life, Alan has an intellect on par with Frasier’s — if only he ever felt like using it,” the character description touts. “Alan’s mischievous streak might be just what Frasier could use to shake up his routine, while Frasier’s thoughtful guidance might help Alan find some of the direction he’s been missing in his own life.”
Other Frasier alums are coming back, however. Bebe Neuwirth will guest-star in the revival, reprising her role as Lilith, Frasier’s ex-wife, and Peri Gilpin will also pop up, once again playing Roz, a producer of Frasier’s radio show. There’s been no word, meanwhile, of Jane Leeves returning to play Daphne, Niles’ physical therapist wife.
Joining the party are Jack Cutmore-Scott as Freddy Crane, Frasier’s son; Anders Keith as David, Daphne and Niles’ son; Jess Salgueiro as Eve, Freddy’s roommate; and Toks Olagundoye as Olivia, Alan’s colleague and the head of the university psychology department.
FOUND
Tuesdays beginning Oct. 3 on NBC NEW SERIES!
In the opening moments of this chilling new drama, a desperate, scantily clad Gabi Mosely (Shameless’ Shanola Hampton) bangs on a metal door asking the man who answers for help. Once inside, it’s clear she’s no damsel in distress: She delivers a right hook to the man and quickly reunites the young boy he’s kidnapped with his grateful parents. All in a day’s work.
“Gabi and her team look for the missing people that the rest of the world seem to not care about,” explains executive producer Nkechi Okoro Carroll. “Gabi finds the ones who have slipped through the cracks and fights to bring them home.”
A public relations specialist privately hired in missing-persons cases (and often at least one step ahead of the police), Gabi also brings a very personal skill set to her crisis management work.
“Gabi is a victim herself who was abducted [20 years before]; no one came to look for her and she had to save herself. It’s her life’s mission to make sure no one has to go through what she went through,” said Hampton in a pre-actors strike interview.
Her four colleagues — compassionate Margaret (Kelli Williams), sharp Zeke (Arlen Escarpeta), fearless Dhan (Karan Oberoi) and fierce Lacey (Gabrielle Walsh) — are equally astute and committed. Expect to learn their own personal ties to these types of heinous crimes.
And it’s Gabi’s traumatic backstory (through which we meet Mark-Paul Gosselaar’s Sir character) that gets revealed in the show’s eerie flashbacks. “You will see how Gabi was abducted, how she saved herself and other key moments throughout the first season that help you understand her as a character,” Hampton said. That’s abundantly clear in the first episode’s chilling final moments.

LOTERÍA LOCA
Mondays beginning Oct. 2 on CBS NEW SERIES!
Jane the Virgin’s Jaime Camil is thrilled to bring the actionpacked Lotería game and culture to American households and to what he believes is an underserved audience as host of the Latin card game of chance, where contestants could win up to $1 million. Here he shares more with us on the game.
As the host and executive producer behind this new game show, how familiar were you with the Lotería game and its origins?
Jaime Camil: I grew up playing Lotería with my family and friends back in México. I could say, without a shadow of a doubt, that every single Mexican family owned and still owns a Lotería game. I would even venture to say that there is no Mexican in the world who doesn’t know what Lotería is, and not only Mexicans! It is a Latin American game that’s huge and recognized by any Spanish-speaking person out there. Furthermore, Lotería is not only a game, it is a culture and is one of the many representations of México and the LatAm culture broadly known both in the USA and Europe. There are Lotería restaurants, Lotería clothing
and accessories collections — IT IS HUGE!
Could you walk us through a few of the more stressful/ exciting parts of the game? Where do the risks come in? Well, it is after all a game of chance similar to bingo, but in Lotería Loca, the contestant that moves on to the final round has the chance to win $1 million, every single night! In addition to having our own Lotería cards with BIG money behind them (designed by our team with animation and sound), some of them have exciting and fun challenges with them, making the game even more fun and engaging, not only to the contestants but also to the folks at home watching. Every time a contestant gets a Lotería, we add even more money to their bank, from $10,000 to $25,000, and they have a chance to walk away with the money they have accumulated or, if the contestant has the luck and guts to continue and uncover all 16 cards, they become instant millionaires! However, there are four “bad” cards with four mean-looking skulls! You have to stay away from them because each time you get one of those, you lose one of your four lives and half your bank! Yikes! And, if you uncover all four of them, you leave the game with nothing … IT IS NERVE-WRACKING, BELIEVE ME!!! You think you’re here to say a number and uncover what card is behind it?? Ha! Think again!!!
5 BAD ROMANCE: THE VICKY WHITE STORY
Saturday, Oct. 21 on LIFETIME ORIGINAL FILM!
While this ripped-from-the-headlines story is plenty interesting, and we’ll get to that in a minute, the casting of this original drama is worth noting, as The Goldbergs’ Wendi McLendonCovey is almost unrecognizable as divorced Alabama prison corrections officer Vicky White. Playing opposite her is Donald Sutherland’s other famous son (Donald’s got four sons) — Rossif Sutherland — who plays 38-year-old prisoner Casey White. True to actual events, the two develop a secret relationship, which leads to Vicky risking everything to break him out of jail. “When Wendi first heard about this true story as it broke nationally, she immediately felt there was much more to the story,” tells executive producer Tom Patricia (Wendi is also an executive producer on the film). “What would make a woman who was so greatly admired by her family and friends, and was a model employee, do something so drastic and extreme? ... We really wanted to dig deeper into the backstory. It was clear that Vicky’s life wasn’t what she wanted it to be, that she was desperately trying to find her own happiness and that every seemingly crazy thing she did, she did for love.” At its core, this is a wild love story gone horribly wrong. —
Barb OatesTRANSPLANT
Thursdays beginning Oct. 12 on NBC SEASON PREMIERE!
The third season of the hit medical drama about a Syrian doctor who flees his war-torn homeland for Canada — where he must redo all his medical training — finds Dr. Bashir “Bash” Hamed (Hamza Haq) continuing his journey to start over. While pursuing Canadian citizenship for himself and his younger sister, Amira (Sirena Gulamgaus), Bash closely examines who he’s becoming in his adopted country. At the same time, he and his colleagues continue to adapt to change and understand how they fit in, both within and beyond the walls of York Memorial Hospital.
“Bash’s story arc in Season 3 is a little bit different than what we’ve seen!” Haq shared earlier this year. “Last season, there was this looming threat of him being kicked out of the hospital and the issue of his medical school papers, and after the generous actions of Dr. Bishop at the end of Season 2, there’s no longer the Damoclean
sword hanging over his head, so he kind of gets to be a more well-rounded person. He’s constantly finding other places to put his love or put his efforts. He doesn’t really turn inwards, and we do explore that later on, how necessary it becomes for Bash to find that journey going inwards.”
“The balancing act for Mags has always been a struggle,” added Laurence Leboeuf, who plays a second-year resident named Magalie. “A lot is going on for Mags this year, a lot is changing, a lot has changed since the beginning, even that she’s now in cardiology, and her relationship status. She has no choice but to really find that kind of sane balance where she won’t push herself too much. I think Mags is really going to face her past this season.”

There’s no honor among this shady parade. “There were some surprises, including unexpected alliances,” previews NBCUniversal’s senior VP of current production Noah Samton. “More often than not, though, their true villainous colors came out and no one’s back was safe from being stabbed.” — Damian Holbrook

THE AMERICAN BUFFALO
Oct. 16-17 on PBS NEW SERIES!
Today, there are approximately 350,000 buffalo in the United States, most of them descendants of 77 animals from five founding herds at the start of the 20th century, and their numbers are increasing.
That’s a greatly positive turnaround from a very low point in the late 19th century, when America’s national mammal, which had once numbered in the tens of millions, was nearly wiped out completely until a diverse and unlikely collection of Americans — including Native American families on reservations in South Dakota and Montana, a legendary Texas cattleman, and a Long Island
may be a lot slower at the lakeside escape, but it can be just as messy, especially after sparks fly with campground newcomer Cal (CW vet Chad Michael Murray of One Tree Hill), who has Maggie second-guessing her relationship with beau Andrew (Allan Hawco). “Morgan and Chad have this incredible onscreen chemistry,” notes executive producer Christopher E. Perry. “You can’t help but find yourself rooting for the two of them as their relationship develops.”
railroad magnate — started a movement to rescue the majestic creature from extinction.
In The American Buffalo, a two-part, four-hour documentary film airing over two evenings, director Ken Burns and writer Dayton Duncan trace this comeback story as part of a journey through more than 10,000 years of North American history that also chronicles the buffalo’s evolution, its significance to the Great Plains and, most importantly, its relationship to the continent’s Indigenous people.
NFL ICONS
Saturdays beginning Oct. 21 on MGM+ SEASON PREMIERE!
Four more Pro Football Hall of Famers get the Icons treatment in Season 3 of this NFL Films documentary series. The Oct. 21 premiere features Jim Brown, the Cleveland Browns running back, movie star and civil rights champion who passed away in May. “Very few people accomplish quietly in any one realm what he did very visibly in three,” says NFL Films producer Paul Camarata. “By combining his talents, interests, intelligence, passion and drive, Brown wrote his own remarkable script. All we had to do was stick to it.” The Oct. 28 episode looks at Charles Woodson, one of the 10 Heisman Trophy winners in the Hall of Fame. Former Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Bill Cowher is the subject of the Nov. 4 episode, and the season concludes Nov. 11 with a profile of legendary Chicago Bears middle linebacker Mike Singletary.

EXPLORER: LAKE OF FIRE
Thursday, Oct. 26 on NAT GEO
“If we get into trouble, no one is coming to get us.” Embarking on an adventure to a location so remote — a place with treacherous terrain, ferocious winds and blinding visibility — you know things will never go as planned.
A team of scientists and mountaineers set out to Saunders Island in the South Atlantic Ocean looking to investigate a “thermal anomaly” that was captured on NASA satellites in 2018. For volcanologist Emma Nicholson, exploring the island’s volcano, Mount Michael, is a dream come true, as she believes it could be home to an active lava lake — a scientific wonder so rare (only seven exist in the world) it would be an absolute “once-in-a-lifetime discovery.” Cameras painfully follow Nicholson and her small team as they attempt a grueling and dangerous ascent to the mountain’s rim. But can they get there with deadly weather closing in?
