FALMOUTH UNIVERSITY’S ACADEMY OF MUSIC AND THEATRE ARTS ON THE PENRYN CAMPUS, OFFERS AN EXCITING YEAR-ROUND PUBLIC PROGRAMME OF MUSIC, THEATRE AND DANCE PERFORMANCES AND EVENTS. Friday 16 February
MINIMA THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA 19.30 Minima’s music is a 21st-Century interpretation of the images of silent film. Formed in 2006, Minima perform in cinemas, art centres, music and film festivals, playing original live soundtracks to silent films. Beneath the sewers of the Paris Opera House dwells a masked figure. He is the Phantom, a hideously disfigured composer whose dream is to turn chorus singer Christine into a diva.
Minima turned the 1925 Phantom of the Opera into an immersive and gripping emotional experience. Swansea International Festival Tickets: £10
Friday 9 March
LOST DOG PARADISE LOST (LIES UNOPENED BESIDE ME) 19.30 There is a possibility that God made everything because he was terrified of doing nothing. Here is a re-telling of the story of the beginning of everything inspired by Milton’s Paradise Lost – told through words, music and the easily misunderstood medium of dance. A show for anyone who has ever created anything and then had to watch that wonderful thing spiral out of control.
****A triumphant gallop through the story of creation. The Guardian Tickets: £12/£10 Friday 16 March
SCRATCHWORKS THEATRE COMPANY GREAT TRAIN ROBBERY
Friday 23 February
BGROUP AND CHINA PLATE PRESENT POINT OF ECHOES
19.30
19.30 The year is 1978, isolated from the mainland, Eric Valentine and Bernard Rose have been stationed at Echo Point lighthouse, somewhere off the coast of England. The unlikely strangers have just begun to lay down foundations for this odd working relationship when the uncanny occurs.
In the early hours of Thursday 8 August 1963, the heist of the century is under way. Signals are scrambled, phone lines cut and millions of pounds of cash – stolen. Five days later the first clues are found, the gang is busted and the rest is history. But what about the ones that got away?
Point of Echoes is an intimate and eerie new dance-theatre work, blending the tones of a Wes Anderson movie with the eerie dread of The Twilight Zone.
Join the four forgotten females as they leave behind their kitchen-sink lives and embark on a madcap adventure of mischief and mayhem. Using a raucous combination of physical theatre, live music and clowning, Scratchworks will unfold the untold tale of the unlikely female four.
