Introduction

Events

Our latest guide takes you from the end of summer deep into autumn. For those of you still looking to get your festival fix, there is plenty going on in September with Looe Music Festival, Little Orchard Cider Festival and Redruth Pasty and Mining Festival to name a few. Fright fans will find plenty of Halloween themed fun in October and as the nights get longer it is time to indulge in theatre, live music and creative events in cosy local venues. There is no need to hibernate! We are so thrilled for our friends and colleagues at Tate St Ives to be celebrating the opening of the new gallery in October after many years of planning, fundraising and (quite literally) pounding the ground to create new exhibition spaces and visitor facilities. A major exhibition by Turner Prize nominee Rebecca Warren is the inaugural show featuring exuberant, roughlyworked sculptures and neon vitrines which will inspire the many creative workshops, talks and sessions on offer for families, young people and the general public (see Family, Art). You can join in the festivities too with free entry to the UK’s newest contemporary art space over the weekend 14-15 October. Join in with talks, pop up tours, events and fun activities for all ages.

‘CATS’ The Musical 7:30pm (plus matinee 28th 2:30pm) £12.50 Newquay Stage Company present Cornwall’s official Premiere production of this Andrew Lloyd Webber classic. Currently enjoying a phenomenal success on Broadway, this is a show that is not to be missed.

“Midnight. Not a sound from the pavement”. Based on T. S. Eliot’s Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats, the show is set amongst a larger- than-life junkyard playground and is alive with our favourite feline characters including Rum Tum Tugger, Mr. Mistoffelees, Macavity, Jennyanydots, Gus, Grizabella and Skimbleshanks. The Jellicle Cats come out to play on one special night of the year – the night of the Jellicle Ball. One by one they tell their stories for the amusement of Old Deuteronomy, the wise and benevolent leader, who must choose one of the Cats to ascend to The Heaviside Layer and be reborn into a whole new Jellicle life. An amateur production by arrangement with The Really Useful Group ltd.
