It was the day after Christmas. Pastor Mike was looking at the nativity scene outside when he noticed the baby Jesus was missing from the figures. He was about to call police when he saw little Jimmy with a red wagon with the figure of the little infant, Jesus. Pastor Mike walked up to Jimmy and said, “Well, Jimmy, where did you get the little infant?” Jimmy replied, “I got him from the church.” “And why did you take him?” With a sheepish smile, Jimmy said, “Well, about a week before Christmas I prayed to little Lord Jesus. I told him if he would bring me a red wagon for Christmas, I would give him a ride around the block in it.”

Every Brilliant Thing, a One Act Play at the Bailey Studio What makes you happy? Ice cream? Puppy dogs? The smell of old books? Sunsets? The answers to this question are shown as both simple and profound in this one-of-a-kind and charming theatrical experience. This witty and contemporary play shines a compassionate light on the impact of depression and reminds us of all the things that make life ‘brilliant’. Equal parts amusing, thought-provoking and heart wrenching, Every Brilliant Thing, staged with the help of the audience, shows us the joy that can be found in even the most unexpected places and just how far we all may go to demonstrate to those we love that life is worth living. Nanaimo Theatre Group is hoping to keep community theatre alive despite the pandemic. The show has been double cast, double crewed and minimally crewed. Many protocols are in place including selling a quarter of our usual seats and only in sets of two. Doors will open one half hour before curtain and there will be no concession or intermission. Traffic flow and accessing seats allows for social dis-
tancing at all times. Wearing non medical masks is strongly recommended; front of house staff will be masked. There will be increased sanitizing of the facilities as well as hand sanitizer for patrons upon entry. Names and contact information for everyone attending shows will be collected with ticket purchase to facilitate contact tracing if needed. The director and producer are both front line health workers! Every Brilliant Thing will open October 14 at the Bailey Studio, home of the Nanaimo Theatre Group, 2373 Rosstown Road, and run Wednesday to Sunday until the 31st; Saturday matinees have been added as there are limited seats for each show. Tickets are $20 available as of September 10th at nanaimotheatregroup.ca or by calling 250-758-7224. To ensure social distancing tickets are sold in pairs only with one set of three seats per show. Special thanks to season sponsor Michael Gill, Wealth Management, and show sponsor Berwick on the Lake Retirement Community..

KOOL TOYS FOR “KIDS” FROM 1 TO 92 It’s October, time for leaves crunching under your feet, warm cozy sweaters and pumpkin carving! Are you planning anything for your children this Halloween? Not many people will probably want to take their little ones out trick or treating this year due to covid-19, but don’t let that stop you and your family from celebrating it with your loved ones! How about putting on a costume party in your home whether it is just for your immediate family or those special people in your “bubble”. We have a wonderful selection of costumes from Creative Education for the child who wants to be a Knight wielding a shield and sword or a little Princess in a long flowing gown, carrying a wand and wearing a tiara. There are many costumes to choose from including color your own cape where the child can fill in the design with felt pens and then wear. We also have face paints that you can “decorate” your child’s face to make them into a wicked witch, a vicious monster or even a cute puppy dog. If you are going to have a party, don’t forget to pick up a few games to keep kids and adults entertained. We have perfect games for groups of 6 or less! Have you ever played Charades, Scavenger Hunt or Headbanz Jr? What better way to enjoy yourselves and have lots of fun! School started in September and although it is different than most other school years, teachers are still teaching their classes and children are still learning from them. If you sent your child back to school or chose to keep them home, we
have many resources to help with their education. From Preschool to High School we carry the core subjects they will need for their education. Our Science wall is filled with many types of projects to make learning enjoyable. Snap Circuits to making Slime, you will find it here! If you can’t get to our store you can always check out our website, email us or even give a quick call. Stay Safe!
