! e r t n e C s r io n e S e h T It’s Summer at “The Mission Seniors Centre is entering a new and exciting era. The Association is working with the District of Mission to manage and schedule the Current Seniors Activity Centre by September 2012. We are also beginning a process to establish a permanent Seniors Centre in Mission. To realize the goal of achieving an autonomous and inclusive Seniors Centre, we need your assistance. Please come and join us and help in taking full advantage of an incredible opportunity. Participation of all seniors in our community is critically important if we are to have a dedicated, thriving and self-managed facility.

July

The welcome mat is out and we look forward to having you come and participate in our summer program; and forge new relationships which will, hopefully, encourage you to join us year round. It is your Centre and you can be a vital part of creating a successful facility to serve Mission seniors for generations to come. Dare to dream -make the dream a reality!” President, Bob Ingram

Step back in time...

Looking for fun and educational things to do with the kids this summer?

Why not consider stepping back in time, way back to the 1920’s at the Kilby Historic Site! Just a half hour east of Mission, Harrison Mills is a splendid place to spend the day, filled with history and adventure. The Kilby general store museum and farm is a BC heritage attraction that offers guided tours with costumed interpreters.

This once thriving community allows you to explore what life was like at the turn of the century. On the five acre farm, you’ll find a general store, built in 1906, a heritage post office and the Manchester House Hotel. On the surrounding fields, you’ll meet Jersey cow and calves, chickens, pigs, sheep, lambs, goats, rabbits, and turkeys. The kids can also explore a large tree fort, and play a variety of old fashioned games in the Orchard Playground. For a day of fun, the family rate is just $24 or $60 for a full year of unlimited visits.

Join us…..

Saturday July 14 - Annual Vintage & Collector Car Show Collector and vintage cars from all over the lower mainland roll onto the heritage site today. Vote for your favourite in the ever popular “People’s Choice” award. We’ll have a BBQ on site and as always crafty things for the kids.

Saturday, July 28 - Folk Festival Enjoy a wide variety of ethnic groups celebrate the tapestry of Canadian culture, for our first annual Folk Festival. Visit booths from different countries to get a flavour of their culture. Timed musical performances will enhance the day on our main stage. And what can be better than our Pirate Party on the BC day long weekend.

Monday, August 6 - BC Day Pirate Party Start thinking about that costume and participate in our contest for the best dressed pirate. The day will be filled with pirate activities including pirate games, crafts and a treasure hunt around the farm. Then on

Saturday, September 1st - 6th Annual Kilby Kid’s Festival A full day of entertainment for the kid’s including face painting, mascots from the Fraser Valley and so much more.

215 Kilby Road, Harrison Mills, BC V0M 1L0 Kilby Historic Site is open daily thru the summer 11 am to 5 pm with numerous special events throughout the year. Check out the website at www.kilby.ca or give us a call for more information. • 604-796-9576

Kids Running for Kids July 5th Our parents have taught us not to run away from our problems so we have decided to run to try to solve them! We are a group of 70 Williams Lake kids running to help kids aged 6 – 18 yrs. We want to make a difference for ourselves and others who are living with conditions that require special care from BC Children’s Hospital (BCCH) and have been fundraising all year in order to make a donation to BCCH from our hearts. Isabelle was born 14 weeks premature, Logan was born with a cleft palette and foot deformities and Marcus required tubes to improve his hearing. Some of us live with chronic conditions that require regular visits to BC Children’s Hospital; Jacob lives with permanent hearing loss that required a Cochlear implant and Parker lives with Type 1 Diabetes. No doubt you know of others who use BC Children’s Hospital. Our objective is to run in communities all the way from Williams Lake to Vancouver starting June 30th, 2012 arriving in Vancouver July 7th, 2012. Each of us will run approximately 5 km each day. We are very excited!

Where: Fraser River Heritage Park When: 9am Please come cheer us on! For more information about Kids Running for Kids phone Karin Brink at 250-398-8218 or email kidsrunningforkids@gmail.com You can make a donation online at www.bcchf.ca/kidsrunningforkids

Optimum Health & Wellbeing The Benefits of Quantum Light Therapy and Alkaline Water

“About 4 weeks ago I started doing Quantum Light Therapy Sessions with Dolf at FUEL in Mission to see if it could help me with my vision. I lost my vision 18 years ago because of my diabetes. After only a few sessions using the Quantum Light Therapy I have started to see. When I look at the TV screen I can now see characters and also some colours. When I walk outside I am able to see vehicles and the white stripes on the crosswalk. I was not able to see any of these things before using the light therapy. I started getting Alkaline water from FUEL Supplements in Mission about 2 months ago. Since I have been drinking Alkaline water I have much more energy throughout the day. It helps me to recover faster from my workouts and I sleep better too. I believe the water is helping me to be healthier overall. Thank you Dolf for all your help!”- Sonny

The weekend features inspiring speakers such as Tom Sine, Pete Rollins and Joyce Rees, as well as socially conscious musicians like Derek Webb and Compassion Gorilla. This is a family friendly event with fun things for the kids as well as speakers and music that will appeal to all ages.

Bring your family, friends and neighbours and enjoy a relaxing and inspiring weekend with others passionate about justice. For tickets or more information see the website: www.creativeworldfestival.org or our Facebook group www.facebook.com/CWFestival Tel: (604 288 1424)

In August 2011, we launched the camping festival with Shane Claiborne and others bringing challenge and inspiration through workshops, music and art. We ended up with more than 500 people celebrating peace, life and freedom in a field at St Mary’s that first summer. We dreamed of justice rolling down like a river. This summer, Creative World will again be held on Stolo Nation land at St Mary’s in Mission, BC. St Mary’s offers a panoramic view of the mighty Fraser River and its beautiful valley.
