BEAT THE HEAT From pool care, to lawn care, to self care - we’ve got all your Summer Essentials! Take care of yourself this Summer and keep cool with a new air condi oner. With a variety of different styles to choose from, it can be hard deciding on the perfect fit for you. Our staff will help you find your new favourite appliance that’ll last you through the Summer months!

Need a Summer project idea? Personalize your backyard with a deck and some new pa o furniture! A deck extends the living space of a home to the outdoors, providing you and your family with an area to relax, entertain and enjoy the summer. A deck will also increase the resale value of your home. The more me and thought you invest in the planning and prep stages, the more use you will make of your deck. Choose from a variety of materials to enhance the finishing and add decora ve items to help define different ac vity zones. Start the planning process by gathering deck design ideas, then plan the deck on paper. Begin with the overall dimensions, then gradually add more detail as the design takes shape. We have everything from pressure treated decking, to vinyl, to the low-maintenance composite decking! We’ll work to your needs and budget to decide which material is the right one for you. We’ll be here to help you every step of the way, everything you need is right here!

Adding your own personal flair to your backyard is easy with our expansive stock of pa o furniture. All different colours, shapes, and sizes, it’ll be hard to choose. Ami’s

Review

And now for something totally different…

clocks throughout the castle, frozen at ten minutes to five. The Duke himself is frozen, but only temperature wise, having very cold hands which requires the use of gloves “when he was asleep, and... when he was awake, which made it difficult for him to pick up pins or coins or the kernels of nuts, or to tear the wings from nightingales.”

This issue’s totally Book-ish review is indeed that… It is an unconventional book that I discovered in an unconventional way. It is one for adults and one for kids. Quirky and funny, old but new, a fairy tale, both horrid and wonderful . Have I got your attention? This book is, of course, 13 Clocks by James Thurber.

Prince after Prince have come to charm and propose to Saralinda, however they have all been sent on impossible tasks in order to win her hand such as cutting a slice of the moon, or changing the ocean to wine. Alas, she remains a captive in the castle with her Uncle. That is, until a Prince disguised as a Minstrel comes on the scene. He too, is given an impossible task to complete, and if he fails? The Duke says he will slit him from his guggle to his zatch (I’ll let you figure out what that means). Clearly, failure is not an option.

On a not so recent trip to Palm Springs, my family descended upon a used book store. Hunting through the many books I stumbled on this novella, and even though I had never heard of it before, I liked the cover (I’m a sucker for book covers). It also came with a nice little recommendation from a famous author I recognized, and so we came home with it. I read it every night aloud to my kids after a day in the sun and pool, and you could still hear us all giggling way past bedtime. Written in 1950 while Thurber was working on a separate novel, this fun little story is what I like to think of as a result of the writer’s mind when he or she sits back, relaxes the brain, and allows the subconscious to string the words together. Beautiful Princess Saralinda is in the grip of a spell cast by her evil Uncle, only known as “the Duke”. Also under the spell are the thirteen

So off the Prince goes in search of the impossible thing with a little bit of help from some unusual people. But what else would you expect from this unusual book? This story is one to read to your kids and grandkids, and I’m convinced it was written to both enthrall children and make adults laugh. It is silly and wonderful, and who doesn’t need a little of that right now? 13 Clocks is a classic for your collection, and it’s on the shelves now at Totally Book-ish.

NOW is the time to start planning your group and destination wedding travel for 2022 and 2023.

WHEN IS THE RIGHT TIME TO START BOOKING INTERNATIONAL TRAVEL FOR GROUPS AND DESTINATION WEDDINGS?

Planning group travel for weddings, family events or a fun group getaway generally takes 12 to 18 months for groups of 20 people or more. Now more than ever, time is of the essence when booking group travel to international destinations. Many destinations and attractions are already near booking capacity for some 2022 dates. Choose your destination. Sun and beach destinations like Mexico, Cuba and the Dominican which offer wonderful all inclusive experiences, are a great option for groups. Many all inclusive resorts offer room options that accommodate singles, doubles or families as well as adult only sections, which allow for flexibility when inviting your friends and family to join you for a magical, inclusive vacation. Peace of mind, an ability to stick to a budget, and a variety of options for entertainment, food and activities that keep your group connected while satisfying diverse interests within your group are all great reasons to consider all inclusive options for your group. Creating unique, customized experiences is another consideration when choosing a destination for group travels. Getting married on a Hawaiian beach, on the grounds of Ancient Ruins, or in a Scottish castle are for some, dreams come true. Climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro, experiencing the Valley of the Kings or touring historic British landmarks provide wonderful experiences for families and friends to enjoy together. Confirm your travel dates. If destination is the top priority for your group travel experience, we advise that you allow flexibility when choosing travel dates and there are a few factors that you will want to keep in mind. Consider things like weather and large events that might be happening at your destination of choice before you decide on when to visit. While summer can be a wonderful time to get married, it may not be the best time to travel to some regions. Heat and humidity can make wearing formal wear like wedding dresses and tuxedos very uncomfortable while rainy seasons can bring high winds which can make a beach wedding challenging. Always consider what large cultural or sporting events may also be happening at your destination of choice when you are thinking of traveling. Large scale events may be scheduled which could limit the ability of your group to participate in some activities.

Owner

Appoint a lead passenger. Every group needs a leader, or lead passenger, who will be the main contact for everyone in the group and will work with the travel agent to communicate planning decisions and make sure everyone in the group has all of the information about the travel itinerary. Having a group leader will save time and can make the group travel experience less stressful for everyone! Have an effective strategy for group communication. Communication is key when planning a group travel experience. We suggest starting a Facebook group, email chain, or other social media platform to keep everyone in your group in the loop. Keep the members of your group engaged by posting pictures of your destination and offer links to sites which will give more information and create excitement. This kind of communication tool is also useful for reminding members of your group about things like deposit and payment deadlines and provides a record of the information that has been shared with the group. In our experience, some of your guests will book and pay their deposits right away while others may need friendly reminders of important dates especially given the length of time before the departure date. An effective group communication strategy can prevent misunderstandings and hard feelings if someone needs to cancel unexpectedly.

MISSION SPOTLIGHT:

And at 25 years of age, this young lady is a testament to her beliefs. She is beautiful on the inside as well as outside. She radiates kindness and she has built her team at Mirror Envy with like-minded women. You will be greeted with a smile and leave with confidence to face to your day.

“You become what you think! Mindset is everything. It’s easy to spot a yellow car when you are always thinking of a yellow car. It’s just as easy to spot beauty in yourself and if you radiate love and selflove, you become a beautiful person.” Tanesha Bridal moved to Mission at a young age and graduated from Heritage Park Secondary, when it was a high school. She has always had a love for and interest in the beauty industry. She decided to pursue a career from this passion and worked to complete her Cosmetology certificate in 2014. After graduation, she opened her salon out of her home and started to build up her clientele and reputation. In her heart, it was always her dream to have a store front salon. This past February, her dream became a reality and she opened up her salon, Mirror Envy, at The Junction Shopping Centre.

From the very beginning, she had always had the vision of helping people feel comfortable in their own skin. She believes each person is amazing in their own way, but with social pressures and influences, it feels like no one wants to be ‘themselves’ anymore. There is a desire to be someone else or there is a belief that someone else’s life is always better.

Twiggage & Bloom... Community Futures North Fraser provided Lexi with the essentials to successfully launch her selfemployment enterprise through the Self Employment Program. Lexi is a passionate artist and grower with the talent and skills to provide a great product and service. However, Lexi lacked the business know-how and was unsure where to begin. Lexi attests, “From the very first step of thorough market research and feasibility study, to in-depth cash flow projections; I was nurtured every step of the way“. Community Futures is proud to have been Lexi’s partner and mentor and love watching her business bloom.

Is Getting into your

“Dream”

Neighbourhood Doable? Is there a neighbourhood you drive through occasionally and think, “Wow. I’d love to live here. What a fantastic area”? Why don’t you take that thought any further? Maybe you think getting into that neighbourhood just isn’t doable – at least, not right now. Perhaps you’re worried about the home prices or the current lack of homes for sale in that area. Maybe there’s some other reason, such as the possibility of higher mortgage payments. Of course, those are all valid concerns. But why not find out whether or not they would genuinely hold you back? For example, if you’re wondering whether you can afford a home in that neighbourhood, you can find that out with a reasonable degree of certainty. You can:

Tom Osterberg Real Estate Representative Lighthouse Realty Ltd Cell 604-615-6446 www.TomOsterberg.realtor fraservalleytom@gmail.com

• Get a current market value assessment so you know, approximately, what you’d likely get for your home. • Find out the average selling price of homes in the target neighbourhood. • Calculate what you’d be able to put down on a new home. • Find out how much mortgage you’ll need and what your payments would be. Once you’ve taken a closer look at the actual numbers, you might discover that a nice home in your desired neighbourhood is within reach. So, get the facts you need instead of assuming you can’t get into the neighbourhood you want. The fact might be, you can! Call today 604-615-6446 if you’d like to explore that possibility.

I can help you get the facts you need.
