Homers Lines wheedle our way through it, as we had started an hour in front of the second car, but the journey still took us a couple of minutes over the three hour mark. The result was rather disappointing, especially in view of the fact that we are definitely trying for a promotion spot into the Southern League South and West Division. But at the moment injuries and people jumping ship hasn't helped our cause. Hello everyone and welcome along to Homers Heath for today's Toolstation Western League Premier Division fixture against Cadbury Heath. It's been a couple of weeks since the last Firstteam game played here, which ended in an odd goal in five win for us over Bridport, which I mention further down the page. At this point I would like to give a big warm Buckland style welcome to today's visitors Cadbury Heath. We hope you all enjoy your short stay with us and will join us in the clubhouse after the final whistle for a bite to eat and a pint, or a soft drink if that's what you prefer, before making a safe journey homewards. We managed to do the double over today's visitors last term with a 3-0 win here at the Heath in front of 126 spectators when our goal scorers with a brace for Charlie Johansen and a solo Simon Revell. The return fixture was a much closer affair with us just edging it by the odd goal in five, with the scorers on that day for us, being a brace for Jared Lewington and a solo from Richard Groves. Coming into today's fixture Cadbury Heath have played just ten fixtures and have accrued eleven points from those games with a thumping 6-1 win last weekend at home to Wells City. We ourselves last weekend travelled to Bitton and lost by the only goal of the game, in a fixture in which we didn't live up to our usual standard and probably didn't deserve anything or perhaps maybe a draw as we had two very good chances to equalise after they had taken the lead with just fifteen minutes left. Only five of us made the journey to Bitton as the second car had to turn back when it encountered terrible congestion on the M5 motorway, we ourselves managed to

The last away game also was a rather dismal defeat at league newcomers Bridgwater Town when we went down by four goals to one in what was a rather lacklustre and poor performance from our boys, unfortunately in front of a travelling fifty-three spectators who had made the journey on the day to cheer their lads on, but that's gone by It's up and at them from now on. On Tuesday evening we entertained Bridport here at the Heath and to say it was a classic game of two half was certainly not an understatement. We started in great form with fast flowing passing football which cut the opposition to shreds and in this blistering start we scored three goals within the first twenty minutes, as we really gave the visitors a battering. The first goal came from Richard Groves when great work down the left flank by acting skipper Lloyd Gardner had set him up and he made no mistake with his shot in the fourth minute to give us a very quick leg up in this fixture. The lead was doubled in the 11th minute when Gardner again went on a mazy run down the left hand side, and squared the ball into the box where Jared Lewington, this time was on hand to thrash the ball home from close range. It was 3-0 in the 21st minute, when Groves burst through the midfield, beating two or three defenders before making his way into the box and rounding keeper to tap the ball in the far corner, much to the delight of the home faithful. At this stage it was rather embarrassing if you were a visiting spectator as we were running riot and it was almost like watching the Alamo, we went on to hit the post once and the crossbar as we constantly penned the visitors in their last third, and it was a mystery how when the whistle blew at the end of the forty-five minutes we had

Homers Lines only managed to score three goals considering the dominance we had in the first period. The second period was a completely different kettle of fish as the visitors began to get a grip on the game and work their way back into it, and in fact began to push us back into our last third for lengthy periods. The visitors got a goal midway through the second period when they were awarded a penalty, which from the distance I was away looked a fair decision, this was duly dispatched by Bridport captain Mark Salter to give the visitors an opening back into the game, and they raised their game after this and in fact I was rather concerned that we were having to defend for long periods and seven minutes from time Bridport pulled another goal back when Salter doubled his tally to really put the match in the balance. A nervous final five or six minutes went by before, much to the relief of most of the 125 people watching the game the final whistle sounded. Although that wasn't the end of the action as the visiting goalkeeper Jason Hutchings was shown a red card for something he must have said to the referee as he was leaving the field space of play. The three points from this fixture are very welcome and keeps us up amongst the front runners, as we still chase that promotion spot. The last match played here previous to the Bridport game saw us lose to a useful Bradford town outfit who like ourselves went into the game undefeated, but with us also losing away at Tiverton Town in the St Luke's Bowl and our recent defeat at Bridgwater Town going into the Bridport game we had only won one of the previous four games, our only victory coming away at Cribbs in a 2-1 victory once again in a very close encounter. Since the last Saturdayâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s home fixture there have been several matches for both the Second and Third Teams with the Second Team losing narrowly away at Elmore in Tiverton, a couple of weeks ago by the only goal of the game, this match in the Devon Premier Cup competition. In the Herald Cup competition our lads beat Barton

here at Homers Heath 7-0 to move into the next round with the goalscorers on the day being James Colclough with a hat-trick and with one each from Jordan Ewing, Dexter Allsworth, Lee Chapman and Mike Turner. On the 4th October the Second Team suffered a home defeat here at Homers Heath to local rivals Kingsteignton Athletic when they went down by two goals to nil, which meant that Kingsteignton had done the double over us this season, as we had previously lost away to them by the only goal of the game a few weeks ago. This defeat leaves our lads sitting in fourth position in the league table with nine points from five games so far this term, today they are away in the Herald Cup at Roselands FC, who haven't had the best starts to the new campaign in the Premier Division after promotion last term and are currently sitting at the bottom of the table. The Third Team boys were involved in a Devon County cup fixture and travelled away to Broadmeadow FC and came away with a comfortable 2-0 victory with the goals on this occasion coming from Lee Pike and Dan Harry winning this game. This now sees the lads drawn at home in the next round when they will face East Devon side Kentisbeare, this fixture due to be played today and the venue again will be Forches Cross with a 2pm kick-off. Not to be outdone the Ladies First and Second Teams have also been busy with the Ladies First Team beating Exeter City here at the Heath 9-2 in the Woman's FA Cup early in September, this followed on the 24th September with a 9-1 victory here against Middlezoy Rovers who at the time were sitting at the top of the league table, on the 8th October our Ladies travel up to the Bournemouth area in the second round of the FA Cup when they faced New Milton Town and came back with a convincing 4-1 victory to put them into the next round when they will face Brislington from the Bristol area, that game due here at Homers Heath on the 12th November with a 2pm kick-off. However everything is not all wine and roses and the girls made an early exit at the first attempt in the Devon Premier Cup

Homers Lines Fixture here last Sunday against a very strong looking, Plymouth Argyle side who play their football a league above us, and at times it did show during this game, as they were a very, very useful outfit, but to be fair we did take the game into extra time, forcing ourselves back into the competition to pull back to 3-3 at the end of ninety minutes , with our goals coming from Laura Gough with two and a peach of a free-kick from Helen Chamberlain. But if we are honest the best side won the game on the day with a goal in extra time to move them into the next round. Last Sunday the First Team girls played only their second league game of the season when they travelled to Bristol to face Downend Flyers and came back with a 6-0 victory with our goals coming from Laura Gough and Katie Hine both scoring twice and solos from Gabrielle Trays and Kirsty Caunter. Tomorrow Yeovil Town are the First Teams visitors here with a 2pm kick-off in what should be a good fixture, all welcome £2 entry charge to cover the expenses of the officials. The Second Team ladies have also played several games this term, with their last fixture being last Sunday at Forches Cross when they progressed to the second round of the Devon Women's Supplementary Cup when they beat Lakeside Ladies from the Plymouth area 5-1 to progress to the next round with goals from Melissa Woodmore with two and one each from Emily

Martin, Katie Burtwell and Kelly Legge, now they will face the old enemy Feniton Ladies, once again a game to be played at home, Forches Cross with a 2pm kick-off, the date for that one is the 19th November. The girls also got to the final of their League Cup after beating Shaldon Villa 4-0 in the First Round, and Ilfracombe 10-0, this game a personal triumph for Katie Burtwell, who bagged five goals (myself and Pete Middleweek travelled up to watch that game it was very one-sided and could have been an even bigger score). Unfortunately we lost in the final 3 -1 to Feniton Ladies with once again our goalscorer being Katie Burtwell. Finally today a big thank you to everyone who either contributed or turned up and spent money at the Rowcroft Hospice charity day here last Sunday, which Chris has told me, thanks to everyone's help they raised over £1000, once again a big thank you to everyone who gave up their time or money to help in this good cause. Our first pitch was situated at Mill Lane, changing in the Social Club and heating up water for tin baths. With a break for the War years, and the transferring to what is now Coronation Park, we progressed from the Bristol & District League to Division Two of the Bristol Premier Combination, and then to Division One in 1961, after winning the GFA Junior Cup in 1950. In the 60’s the team (only a first team then) built their own baths at the Social Club. This period of success coincided

with the renting of our present ground – Springfield – for £10 per annum from a local farmer and President Jim Warner. This was then an open pasture land with cows, a rope had to be put around the playing area. It had no Electricity Water or Drainage. The tea bar was a garden shed. The offer to purchase for £250 was short-sighted declined, as the field was later sold as part of major development land and only intense lobbying led by the then Chairman, Mike Packer persuaded the Council to allocate Springfield as part of Public Open Space leased to the Football Club for dual use. This has meant that we have not been entirely masters of our own destiny. Even so, Gloucestershire county League championship in 1971-72, 1972-73, 73 74 and runners up 74/75 at the same time winning the GFA Senior Amateur Cup in 1972/73 73/74 and 197475, under Ralph Miller’s Management. The success pushed the club into joining the Midland Combination after being turned down by the Western League due to the dressing rooms being situated too far from the pitch (what is now the Social Club bottle store). A stand was built for the requirement of the Midland Combination (with tea bar). After finishing fifth and reaching the quarter finals of the FA Vase with a crowd of 2,000 at Springfield, and more listening live on local Radio Bristol for the tie against Billericay Town from Essex, the Manager left after a disagreement with the committee, and took most of the players, to Cinderford Town. This shook the club to the core, we were relegated and had to drop two divisions to the Avon Premier Combination (we were founder members) there was no `Pyramid System’ in force. A slow recovery took place, half time rooms being built, then a terrapin to provide on-pitch dressing rooms, taking advantage of newly laid drains for the new houses, a water supply, and electricity for training floodlights. Elected back into the Gloucestershire County League in 1984 a reserve team was started in 1988 ran by John Clarke formed from CHYMCA the first team finished as runners-up in the County League in 1990. Our Visitors Today - Cadbury Heath Williams, Dave Pitman, Les Allan, John Harris, Andy Stone, Keith Cottrell, Brian Knighton, Mike Ratcliffe, and Chris Stone. We celebrated our Centenary by winning the League Championship for the fifth time in 1994, under the consistent managership of Brian Knighton, and we continued to dominate the league once again. Continued improvement on and off the field saw new dressing rooms built on the ground in 1997, a youth academy started under Malcolm Knowlson and a new terrapin replaced the one for the youth section formed from an amalgamation with local youth football club, Grimsbury Rangers. After winning the Gloucestershire County League for a record sixth time, under the management of Andy Black, an application to join the Western League was again turned down due to the lack of a fence. Andy then left the club to join Bitton and Steve Plenty was appointed Manager along with Lee Knighton. After a public open meeting and a long battle with the Council, the fence was finally erected at a cost of £15,000 funded by Cadbury Heath Football Club. Steve and Lee’s first season in charge got runners up spot, of which consequently secured our election to the Toolstation Western League at long last! After 2 seasons in charge, Steve Plenty stood down due to family commitments and Lee Knighton took over the hot seat for a season and then the reigns were handed over to his assistant, Glen Smart, who consolidated our position for four seasons. Lee Knighton took over as First Team Manager for his second spell and appointed Andy Weeks as

his assistant in season 2005/6, also that year Steve Plenty became Chairman when Dave Smart stood down. After five years of planning tribulations Floodlights were successfully installed at the end of season 2008/2009 this being Phase one of Heaths redevelopment plan, being largely due to the efforts of Chairman Steve Plenty. The Heath and The Social Club went their separate ways in season 2011/12. Andy Black joined the club for his third spell in season 2010/11 appointing Glenn Smart as his assistant culminating in the first division championship and promotion to the Premier Div. in season 2011/12. Then followed two good seasons in the premier division with the last two seasons being a period of trying to rebuild the side after most of the original players either retiring or moving on to higher level football. Phase two, is in the planning stage which is for a new dressing room facility incorporating a new clubhouse & new 100 seat stand with a covered area for a further 100. During season 2015-2016 Roger Coke joined the club as coach. Season 2016-2017 starts with a new first team coach Phillip Bater Ex Bristol Rovers and the introduction of a U18 side who will be playing in the Bristol & Glos U18 league. The new 2017-18 league campaign began on the 7th August away at Melksham Town, and they fell to their first defeat 4-0, another defeat followed, this time at home against Bridport 4-1, S McElroy scoring. It was a third consecutive league defeat when they were beaten away at Cribbs 3-0, but they secured their first win on the 23rd August at home against Hallen, winning 5-2, A Campbell and S Tong both getting two each and M Huxley scoring. Buck’s Ed’s Look At Cadbury Heath followed when they were beaten away at Bitton 3 -1, Tong scoring, and they picked up another point with a 1-1 draw away at Clevedon Town, Tong again on the scoresheet. Their next league game was on the 27th September, winning 4-3 at home against bottom side Longwell Green Sports, L Shipp with two, S McElroy and an own goal. Another point came in a 0-0 draw at home against Odd Down (Bath) but were then beaten at home 4-0 by high flyers Street. They recorded their biggest win this season on Saturday at home against strugglers Wells City, winning this game 6-1, S Tong with two, K lee, S McElroy and J Camm all scoring. They were also in action Tuesday evening away at Brislington, with this ending in a 1-1 draw, McElroy scoring.

Huxley scoring. In the FA Vase 1st Qualifying Round they were at home against South West Peninsula League Division One West (Step Seven) St Blazey and they ran out 3-1 winners, Huxley, McElroy and Tong all scoring. In the 2 nd Qualifying Round they were at home against Shepton Mallet and they won that 3-1 too, J Camm, Huxley and L Shipp scoring. In the 1st Round they were away at Wantage Town from the Hellenic League Premier Division, and they exited the competition, beaten 4-3, Tong got two and McElroy scoring. In the Les Phillips Cup Preliminary Round they were at home against Division One side Bishop Sutton and they ran out easy winners 5-0, S Bailey, A Campbell, Huxley, K Lee and A Bamford all scoring in this tie. In the 1st Round they will be at home against another side from Division One, Chard Town on the 18th November.

They arrive here at Homer s in sixteen place in the Premier Division table having now played eleven games, winning three, drawing three, losing five, scoring nineteen, conceding twentysix, gaining twelve points and have lost just once in their last six league games. Premier Division: Street strengthened their position at the top of the table following a 2-0 win at home to the previously unbeaten Bradford Town. A dinked finish from Steve Murray put the home side ahead midway through the first-half, before Josh Wadham doubled the advantage ten minutes after the break. At the Rapid Solicitors Ground, a fine free-kick 15 minutes from time handed Bitton an impressive 1-0 win at home to the early pacesetters Buckland Athletic. Wellington extended their unbeaten run in all competitions to six matches, when Jack Bryant struck 20 minutes from time in their 1-0 win at home to Cribbs. Joe Stradling scored in first-half stoppage-time, before Gary Higdon slotted home his 16th league goal of the campaign as Melksham Town claimed a 2-0 win away at Shepton Mallet. Bridport got back to winning ways at St Mary’s Field, with a quick-fire second-half double handing them a 3-1 victory over Brislington. In a game which kicked-off late due to traffic issues, goals at either end of the fixture from Luke Alden and Fletcher Williams led Willand Rovers to a 20 victory away at Hallen. Ed Butcher put the hosts ahead in just the 7th minute, before Brislington got back on level terms through Danny Hunt ten minutes later. Bridport then regained the lead 20 minutes from time through Leigh Bailey, before Mark Slater wrapped-up the win soon after. Westbury United got back to winning ways after securing a 2-0 victory away at Sherborne Town. Ricky Hulbert set the leaders on their way in the 38th minute, and they then wrapped-up the three points in stoppage time through George Bendle. Almondsbury extended their winning run to four matches in all competitions, with Alex Bisp scoring the only goal of the game in their 1-0 triumph at home to Bishops Lydeard. A hat-trick from Adam Jones, plus goals from Sam King and Chris Coombes led second-placed Cheddar to a convincing 5-1 win away at Warminster Town. Welton Rovers are in fine form, and have now won four of their past five games, with Joe Garland, Joe Battrick and Chris Pile bagging goals in their 3-0 win away at Wincanton Town. At the Dening Sports Field, Alex Stafie popped up with the only goal of the game in first-half stoppage time as Chard Town claimed a 1-0 win over Corsham Town. Keynsham Town fought back from a first-half deficit against Radstock Town, with Kyle Box scoring the equaliser in their 1-1 draw at the AJN Stadium. In the game of the day, Calne Town came out on top of a seven-goal thriller against Bishop Sutton. Jack Keen heading the away side ahead from a corner early on, before Stuart Windsor scored twice in the space of four minutes to give Calne their first lead of the game. Keen then added a second of his own to level things up, with Sutton then moving ahead in the 44th minute with Sam Downes firing home. Less than a minute later however, Calne were back on level terms once again with Billy Boakes’ cross-come-shot going into the back of the net to cap a frantic first-half. There was just one goal after the break, and that belonged to Calne, with Billy Gleed finishing off after excellent build-up play from Boakes. In a match which saw five player’s red carded, it was goals from George Peare and Anthony Brown that helped to secure Malmesbury Victoria’s 2-1 win away at Ashton & Backwell United. The home side got back on level terms just after the half-hour mark through Alex Twigg, who slotted home after a fine assist from Rob Latham. Then, after missing a number of chances after the break, Portishead had a golden opportunity to take all three points, but James Clarke saw his spot kick saved brilliant by Walters in the visiting goal. Buckland Athletic Football Club have come a very long way in 40 short years since they were formed as a junior club for kids to play on a pitch in Sandringham Park in the Torbay Pioneer League writes Kerry Miller. Senior football came a decade later in the modest environs of the Senior Division Three of the Devon and Exeter League with their home just a couple of goal kicks away from where they are now, at Coach Road with Roy Holmes at the reigns. Homers Lane was next stop and from there it been a steady improvement on and off the field with Homers Heath now widely regarded as one of the best home venues in the Western League. Renowned football grounds magazine Groundtastic rightly rewarded the club with their ‘New Stand of the Year’ accolade and with a welcoming and busy clubhouse behind them, the club’s immediate goal of Southern League football cannot be far away. With so many clubs forced to take the easy option with regard to ground improvements, Homers Heath looks and feels as if it was designed with spectators in mind – a rare commodity nowadays in the era of the dreaded Arena kit grounds – and greets the eye as soon on entry. Roy Holmes is now chairman of the club and the family name is well up there with Christine as secretary and Nigel as vice-chairman and they

have overseen a fine start to the campaign after an early and frustrating exit from the FA Cup at the hands of Bodmin Town, going eight games unbeaten in the league. Bradford Town brought their unblemished record down from Wiltshire and went away with a victory and after a thrashing at Bridgwater Town and defeat in the St Lukes Bowl at Tiverton, wins at Cribbs and home to Bridport have put Ellis Laight’s side back on track. Commercial manager John Piller acknowledged the loss at Bridgy: “Their supporters said that was the best their side had played for around three seasons, but we have a strong squad and with the league restructuring, two or even three could go up and we intend being one of them. If we don’t win the league then second or third could be enough.” The club already have a D grading which is good enough for the Premier Division of the Southern League, current home of Devon rivals Tiverton Town and John is quick to thank their many sponsors who have helped make Homers Heath what it is. “Carl Throgmorton’s Western Developments are our main sponsors and K2 Hairdressers have also been on board for many years. The Firewatch Group are responsible for all the impressive signage around the ground but none of it would work without the small army of unpaid volunteers which make the club.” At the hub are Christine Holmes and Rose Glanfield whose kitchen is up and running well before kick-off at every game and is widely regarded as one of the best while on the field the largely unheralded work of groundsman is duly taken up by Simon Glanfield and Simon Dungey who have produced a fine paying surface. Only time will tell if it will be staging Southern League football a year from now but the next six months or so are going to be arguably the most exciting in the club’s relatively short history.

Down Memory Lane Hello everyone once again we will take another journey together down memory lane and look at an old programme from the distant past. Today's edition was lent to me by my good friend Steve Feasby from his decent sized collection he has assembled over the years. In this collection he has a fair number of programmes from local South West amateur teams who no longer exist with Dawlish Town, STC Paignton and Newton Abbot FC being the three that come to mind right away all three just a memory these days.

The front cover sees two action photo shots in blackand-white from previous derby games played here, also the front cover lists how many times Liverpool have been League Champions and also FA Cup winners and UEFA Cup winners, the final piece of information on the front cover tells us the programme was called the Anfield Review and would cost 12p. Pages 2 and 3 are entitled ‘Derby Day Again’ and looks back at some of the previous encounters between the two teams. Page 4 is divided in two sections lengthwise with the left-hand side being devoted to everyone concerned in running Liverpool FC from the very top right down to the groundsman and others. The right hand side has two adverts, one for Toby Light Ale and the other for D T Brown-who make steel. Page 5 is called ‘Prestige and Pride’ and once again goes back over local derbies and looks at some of the Everton players such as Bob Latchford. Pages 6 and 7 have black-and-white photos of the meeting here between the two sides last season. Pages 8 and 9 once again have black-and-white photos from the derby game last season but this time from Goodison Park. Pages 10 and 11 continue the theme of black-and-white photographs with once again some more from the derby game here at Anfield last season. Page 12 has several different items on the page including, a what do you know about football quiz, a couple of jokes and two more different type puzzles to solve. Page 13 is divided into two with the top half giving the answers to the quizzes and puzzles set in the last home programme and the bottom half has two adverts, on the left Gavin Murray Coaches and on the right L Rifkin-scrap metal dealers.

Today I will take a look at a programme from a Merseyside derby played on Saturday 16th October 1976 and is a League Division One fixture. The game was to take place at Anfield, the home of Liverpool with a 3pm kick-off. The front cover of this edition is slightly smaller in area size than our own present-day Buckland Athletic

Page 14 gives us all the information we need to know about next Saturday's away game at Leeds United and talks a bit about the players at Elland Road and what a tough game it will be, as well as giving us the RAC route to make things easier for those travelling by car, it also mentions that there will be trains leaving British Rail stations at Lime Street and Central. Down Memory Lane 15 looks at local lads from the Merseyside area that have made it to play for either Liverpool or Everton over the years. Page 16 has a black-and -white photograph of four Liverpool footballers at a recent function, Tommy Smith, Ian Callaghan, Steve Highway and David Fairclough being the four. Page 17 looks at the Central League scene in which both Everton and Liverpool run Reserve Teams, it also gives a list of Liverpool's fixtures for this season in the League. Pages 18 and 19 are the statistics pages with a full list of all of the First-Team games for Liverpool FC this season as well as an up-to-date Division One league table, and a current up-todate Central League table. There are also the list of appearances for the players in both of these teams along with the number of goals they have scored with also a detailed look at how many goals each person has scored in their career at Liverpool so far. There is a little section telling us the next two matches at Anfield will be against Blackburn Rovers in the Central League and Aston Villa the following week in the Football League Division One. The bottom quarter of the second page contains an advert for a book called ‘Shankly’ written by Bill Shankly and it says a must for every Shankly supporter and will cost you £3.95. Page 20 is the outside back cover and this contains the two team line-ups for this derby day encounter with the names of the three officials as well as the good old alphabet half-time scoreboard with I see under the letter S Plymouth who are at home to Cardiff City.

A bit of research tells me that this game was won by the Liverpool 3-1 with the home side's goals coming from Heighway, Toshack and a Neal penalty with the consolation for Everton coming from Dobson. This match was played in front of 55,141 spectators. Later in the season the return game between the two at Goodison ended in a goalless draw played in front of 56,568 people. A bit further research tells me at the end of this current season the League Champions were Liverpool with 57 points from 42 games, 2nd Manchester City 56 and third Ipswich 52 points it’s interesting to see this season that rock bottom of the pile were Tottenham Hotspur with 33 points. Liverpool also reached the FA Cup final in this season but lost to the old enemy Manchester United by the odd goal in three. Buckland Athletic - A Club History The club was formed in 1977 purely as a junior club. We started life in the Torbay Pioneer League and Sandringham Park was our home pitch. As a junior club it was the biggest in the area, running a total of six sides in six different age groups for several seasons. We won many titles over the years including the Devon Youth Cup. In the season of 1987-88 we were accepted into the Devon and Exeter League and started our senior football life in Senior Division Three playing home games at Coach Road with Roy Holmes still in charge. In our first season we won the Championship and were promoted into Senior Two in 1988-89. Well in the 1989-90 season we gained promotion once more into Senior One these two promotions were gained with a very youthful side. In 1990-91 we were on the move again this time to Decoy and this season saw us win the Wheaton Trophy. We finally achieved our dream of being promoted to the Premier Division in 1992-93, having now moved to our old ground at Homers Lane and the club hasn't looked back since that move took place. In 1994-95 season saw Roy Holmes step down as first team manager and Nigel Holmes and Roger Madge took the job on. Reserves went through the season undefeated in the Devon and Exeter Senior Division Two and were promoted to Senior One. The first team ended the season in sixth place in the league table and were beaten finalists in the Throgmorton Cup. 2002-2003 was another successful season in the life of Buckland, the Reserves won the Devon FA Senior Cup at Coach Road, beating Princess Yachts International 3-0. They were also promoted to the Premier Division of the Devon and Exeter League after finishing in third place, that was only decided on their last game of the season when the top three sides were all in with a chance of securing the title. The First team finished up third in the table which at the start of the season was, as many supporters said beyond them but the managers got good players in at the right times through the season. We also won the Devon League programme award and finished 29th out of a total of 1100 non league programme in the renowned Wirral awards. 2003-2004 was a new era in the clubâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s history, a third senior side was established and went on to win The South Devon League Division Seven Championship with ease. The First team finished in eighth place, with Gary Taylor stepping down from his assistant manager position, their lowest position since joining the Devon League. The Reserves finished in fourth spot in The Devon and Exeter Premier Division, Manager Simon Glanfield stood down as manager. The programme finished first in the Devon League section of the Wirral programme awards and 11th out of 1100 non-league programmes. 2004-05 we did better than the previous season by finishing in 7 th place. Throughout this season the new ground was being worked on by a loyal band of club people. In the final year of the Wirral programme awards we finished in our highest position of sixth out of 1100, winners were Exeter City. For the 2005-06 season we started life playing our games at our new permanent home, Homers Heath on the Kingskerswell Road. The move went very well, and the ground was opened on Saturday 13th July when an estimated 300 + people turned out to see Steve Perryman cut the ribbon to open the pitch. Plymouth Argyle bringing a team up on Wednesday 13th July followed this up. And Argyle Chairman Mr Stapleton officially opened the clubhouse. Paul Feasby and Andy Paddon were in charge of the First team and we finished in our lowest league position of 13th. In the 2006-07 season all the talk was about the re-structuring of the Devon League and South Western League. One League with three Divisions was being formed called the South West Peninsula League. We managed to finish the season in 12th place under the leadership of Phil Bayliss and Gary Taylor and we had done just enough to meet our goal of qualifying for the SWPL

Buckland Athletic - A Club History Premier Division along side the topsides in both the South Western and Devon Leagues. The 2007-08 season was an extremely successful one for the club, the first team finished in 14th place in the new South West Peninsula League Premier Division. We won the SWPL Premier Division best ground award, which is voted by the other clubs visits to Homers Heath we also won the SWPL Programme award. The Reserves won the South Devon League Division 3 title, were runners-up in the prestigious Herald Cup, Devon Intermediate Cup Winners and Divisional Cup winners. The 3rd Team won the SDL Division 6 title, the Fred Hewings Cup and their Divisional Cup Final. In the 2008-09 season, the club enjoyed another successful season, the 1st team finished the season in 3rd place in the SWPL Premier Division, and for the second season running we won both the ground and programme award for the Premier division. The 2nd Team had a highly successful season, winning the South Devon League Division Two title and getting promoted to Division One, they also won the Devon Senior Cup with a 1-0 win over Lifton at Coach Road, this for the second time in the club's history. However, 2nd Team manager Ian Miller decided it was time to step down and concentrate on his now role as the clubs commercial agent having enjoyed huge success with the 2nd Team. The 3rd Team finished in second placed in the SDL Division Five and gained promotion to Division Four. Our Under 14 side also were very successful, winning their league title and league cup and winning the Devon FA County Cup at Coach Road with a fine 41 win over Plymouth Kolts. Buckland had a phenomenal season in 2009-10, the 1st team did the double, winning the SWPL Premier Division title and the Throgmorton Cup pipping Bodmin Town to both, in what was manager Phil Bayliss’ last season in charge. They lost just three times in the league and were unbeaten in all their 19 home games. We also played in the famous FA Cup competition for the first time in the club’s history. They actually won the league on goal difference from Bodmin Town and they also beat them 2-1 after extra time in the Throgmorton Cup final played at Cullompton’s Speed Meadow. This was a wonderful way for Phil to hand over control to new manager Steve Massey for the 2010-11 season. The 2nd Team had a very successful season once again, this time they won the SDL Division One league title and they retained the Devon Senior Cup Final beating Elburton Villa Reserves at Coach Road 3-1. Again the 2nd Team manager Jim Barrett also decided to resign at the end of the season and Adam Castle will now be in charge of their new quest in the SDL Premier Division. The 3rd Team won the SDL

Division Four league title, and they will be managed again this coming season by Scott Chisholm, who has guided them to many successes over number years. The success kept coming in the 2010-11 season, the 1st Team retained the SWPL Premier Division title, by an eight point margin, they also became the lowest ranked club to win the Devon St Lukes Bowl when they defeated Tiverton Town on penalties in that final. The 2nd Team finished in 3rd place in their first season in the SDL Premier Division, and they did win the George Belli Cup, defeating Totnes & Dartington 2nds 4-2. The 3rd team also finished in 3rd place in SDL Division 3, are they achieved promotion. They also won the Fred Hewings Cup for the second time, when they defeated WBB 2nds 1-0. The Junior side of the club continues to grow, but we have lost both Under 16 sides, but a lot of those players ware now signing senior forms for club, so hopefully we will find a number of young stars for all three senior sides. The 2011-12 season was another significant one in the history of Buckland Athletic. Although the 1 st team relinquished their grip on the SWPL Premier Division title, beaten into second place by a very good Bodmin Town side, we had done enough to secure promotion to the Toolstation Western League Premier Division at Step 5. We were also beaten finalists in the Throgmorton Cup, again losing out to Bodmin Town, but we did retain the prestigious Devon St Lukes Bowl, again we played Tiverton town (Step 4) in the final, this time at the Heath, but this season we ran out worthy winners in 90 minutes, 4-0. The 2nd Team finished as runners-up in the SDL Premier Division, but they did win the Herald Cup for the first time in the clubs history, beating Watcombe Wanderers in that final 3-2 after extra time. They also made it through to the semifinals of the Devon Premier Cup, beaten by eventual winners and SWPL Division One East winners Liverton United. The 3rd Team didn’t win any silverware this season, but they had a great season, finishing in fourth place in the SDL Division Two table, and were beaten finalists in the Lidstone Cup. But the most pleasing part for the 3rds were the amount of the previous seasons Under 16s side made it into the side throughout the season. Manager Scott Chisholm has now decided to stand down as 3rd Team manager, he has been in charge of them since the teams formation in 2003, and had won promotion every season, until this one. Scott will be missed but he will remain involved with the club off the field, with former 1st team stalwarts Neil Montandon and Ben Williamson taking on the manager role with help from Nigel Holmes for the 2012-13 season. Antony Lynch will again lead the 1st Team, alongside his assistant Tom Kelly, but we have lost another stalwart for the new season, as assistant manager

Buckland Athletic - A Club History Jaimie Carwardine has now moved away from the area and has had to stand down, and again he will be sorely missed. Adam Castle will once again be in charge of the 2nd Team assisted by Paul Tucker, Simon Dungey and Steve Giles. The 1st Team’s first season in the Toolstation Western League ended in a tenth place finish, but the club did the Hospitality award and programme award in this first campaign. The 2nd Team won the South Devon League Premier Division title for the first time in its history, they also lost out in the finals of both the Devon Premier Cup and Herald Cup to Exmouth Town and Watcombe Wanderers respectively. The 3rd Team finished in third place in SDL Division Two, and were promoted to Division One, they also won the Fred Hewings Cup beating Totnes & Dartington 3rds. For the 2013-14, our highly successful 2nd Team manager, Adam Castle will now be in charge of the 1 st Team for its second season in the Western League Premier Division. There is a new man in charge of the 2nd Team, Simon Dungey will be the man to lead them in this campaign, while the 3rd Team will be once again lead by Neil Montandon. In his first season in charge of the 1st Team, Adam Castle led them to an 11th place finish in the Toolstation Western League Premier Division. The club retained the Premier Division Programme award. The 2nd Team finished in 4th place in the South Devon League Premier Division, and were beaten finalists in the Herald Cup, going down 3-1 to Watcombe Wanderers. The 2rd Team finished as runners-up to Dartmouth in the South Devon League Division One, but they retained the Fred Hewings Cup by beating Watcombe Wanderers 2nds 2-1, this was their third win of this trophy in the last four seasons. What another great season for the club was 2014-15, the 1st Team managed by Adam Castle finished as runners-up in the Western League Premier Division (Step Five), which was a great achievement, we also won the Premier Division programme award for the third consecutive season. The 2nd Team led by Neil Snell ended this season as Champions of the South Devon League Premier Division, and our 3rd Team managed by club stalwart Nigel Holmes also finished as champions, this time of the South Devon League Division One, and they also retained the Fred Hewings Cup winning it for the fifth time, they also introduced a few of our talented Under 16s players into senior football. Now onto the 2015-16 season, firstly there was substantial drainage work done to the playing surface during the summer, and we must thank Viridor Credits

for their help in funding these works. Onto the football, the 1st Team managed by Adam Castle finished in 4th Place in the Western League Premier Division, but not good enough to reach our goal of promotion. The 2nd Team managed again by Neil Snell retained the South Devon League Premier Division title, and were beaten finalists in the Herald Cup. Our 3rd Team finished the season in the South Devon League Division One as runners-up, in what was manager Nigel Holmes last season in charge. The club fielded it’s first Ladies team managed by Grant Fisher, in the Devon Women's League Division One, and they didn’t drop a point when winning the league title, and they then added the League Cup, in what was a fantastic season for them. Also during the season a lot of work was carried out at Homers Heath, including a new covered standing area, which incorporates two new turnstiles. The ground was fenced in, and an impressive outside toilet block was built. This work allowed the club to achieve a ‘D’ Ground Grade which is good enough for Southern League football. 2016-17 was another very good season for the club, the 1st Team finished in 4th place in the Western League Premier, and collected their best points tally since joining the league. The team also reached in the last eight of the FA Vase, going down 2-0 away against Bromsgrove Sporting, this means that it was very good season for new manager Ellis Laight. The club also won the Western League Hospitality Award and best programme award this season. The 2nd Team won their third consecutive South Devon League Premier Division title, under the leadership of Lee Chapman and Ben Robertson. Our 3rd Team under Phil Bearne and Paul Sharples finished as runners-up in the South Devon League Division One, and won their sixth Fred Hewings Cup trophy. Now on to our all conquering Ladies 1st Team who won the South West Women's League Western Division, dropping just two points over their unbeaten season. They also added the Soccerworld League Cup and the Devon FA Senior Cup to that success which saw them end this season as treble winners. Our Ladies 2nd Team finished mid-table in a very hard Devon Women's League Premier Division, and were beaten finalists in the Devon FA Supplementary Cup. There were also varies successes for our Junior sides, bot boys and girls. We now move onto the 2017-18 season, again the aim is for the 1st Team to gain promotion to the Southern League, which in turn would allow the 2nd Team if they finished in a promotion position to move up to the South West Peninsula League. The 1st Team will again be managed by Ellis Laight, and have kept all but one of last season squad. The 2nd Team will be
