Homers Lines Hello everyone and welcome along to Homers Heath for this evenings first Toolstation Western League Premier Division fixture of the new season, which sees us entertain for the first time in a competitive fixture tonight's guests, Wellington. Wellington were promoted into the Premier Division at the end of last season after finishing in pole position at the end of the season with 92 points and a goal difference of +56, in second place where Hengrove with 88 points and a goal difference of +68, so both teams certainly have goalscorers in their squads to collect that many goals. Ironically on Saturday both met each other in the Extra-Preliminary Round of the FA Cup with the game ending in a 3-1 away victory Hengrove who will pocket the ÂŁ1500 prize money and move onto the next round. At this point I would like to give a big warm Buckland style welcome to the players, management team, club officials and any spectators who have made the journey this evening down to Devon to watch the fixture. We hope you all enjoy your short stay with us tonight and will find time to join us in the clubhouse after the final whistle to enjoy a bite to eat and a pint before making the journey home again safely. Our clubs have met before at Reserve Team level when our Second Team was in the Devon and Exeter League and we played each other in a league fixture both home and away but that's so far in the past I cannot remember, or find out how the fixtures went, for those long serving Buckland spectators. I do remember though the manager in charge in those days was none other than the worldfamous (or at least around here) Gary Loader. We ourselves were also involved in a FA Cup
wottonprinters.co.uk
Extra-Preliminary Round football encounter here at Homers Heath when the old enemy from our days in the South-West Peninsular League Bodmin Town came to visit us and once again they seem to hold the Indian sign over us and went away victors by the odd goal in five with once again a ÂŁ1500 cheque for their efforts. For those who were here on Saturday to watch the game. I think you will agree we didn't do ourselves justice and looked rather lack lustre and devoid of ideas of how to break down the Bodmin defence. Although to be fair we did have several chances. It's a shame really that our dismal run in the FA Cup continues for yet another season and we make a quick exit at the first attempt as was the case last season when another old enemy from the South West Peninsula League days Plymouth Parkway rolled us over by funnily enough the same scoreline as Saturday. Personally I didn't think that the Bodmin Town display here last Saturday was one of the better ones I have seen and must admit to being disappointed that we didn't move onto the next round but that old warhorse Adam Carter was the thorn in our side yet again, scoring two goals to add to the four he got here the last time they played us, which I believe was an FA Vase encounter. On a bright and sunny Saturday afternoon at Homers Heath, although it was a bit windy, the opening twenty minutes of this contest was a rather even affair with both sides looking for an opening without success although both sides had efforts from distance that were wide of the goal. The deadlock was broken in the 28th minute when a silly foul out on our left hand side led to a cross into the box which was headed home by the aforementioned Adam Carter to give the visitors the lead and give their travelling faithful something to shout about. A couple of minutes before the halftime break we were to concede yet again to a stupid free-kick being given away just on the edge of the penalty area. It's hard to describe
clubwebsite.co.uk/bucklandathleticfc01

Homers Lines the free-kick it was well struck and curled into the net by Harry Evans, but not one of our players seemed to move included the goalkeeper. It was just like curling the ball around a load of statues, obviously this was a bitter pill to swallow as both of the goals against us came from our own downfall of giving away free kicks in silly positions. The half-time whistle sounded and we all went for a cup of tea and a chat about the first half. The general consensus of opinion was at two-nil, it was going to be hard but not impossible to make a comeback and playing towards our favourite laundry end in the second period we hoped we may have a better second period. But within seven minutes we were a further goal behind. Once again a gift as a poor header back to the keeper let in that well-known predator Carter to gleefully snatch second goal. A brilliant solo effort by Lloyd Gardner when he twisted and turned his way down the grandstand side of the ground and then cut into the penalty area before firing home the best goal of the afternoon to give us all renewed hope. This hope took a dent soon afterwards when central defender Cameron Kelly was dismissed for a second yellow card offence to leave the yellows with an uphill task. Having said that we dug in deep and scored a second goal from a quickly taken corner which caught the visiting defence at six and sevens when the quick thinking Simon Revell played the ball into the penalty area and Charlie Johansen side footed the ball in from six yards out, this sparked an almighty protest by the Bodmin team who chased and manhandled the referee during this minute or two of insanity and to be honest I was surprised that he didn't dismiss at least one of their players for the constant shouting and man handling of him, the majority of the protesting coming from the Bodmin Town captain. But they did manage to persuade him to go across and speak to the linesman but his view was that the corner was taken correctly and it was a goal much to the annoyance of the visitors. Bodmin suffered a dismissal as

well when funnily their Kelly (Adam) was sent from the field of play for a second yellow card offence. Despite our sustained efforts to get an equaliser the time ran out on us and it was Bodmin who had the biggest smiles on their faces when both teams left the pitch. Last Friday night saw our Second Team in action at Devon HQ, Coach Road, where they faced Ilfracombe Town in the final of the Carl Throgmorton Champions Cup. We as league champions of the South area had got to the final courtesy of an away win at Honiton Town, champions of the East. This game finished all square 2-2 after the ninety minutes but we won the penalty shootout 5-4. Ilfracombe Town champions of the North had a really one-sided contest in their semi-final beating The Windmill champions from the West 7-1 on their own ground. The game at Coach Road attracted a decent crowd of over 200 to watch this lively encounter between two good footballing teams. The first ten minutes belonged to the Ilfracombe outfit who penned us back and looked a very good side, as we were warned they would be. But after working our way back into the contest we did take the lead when Sam Dicken headed a goal past the tall Ilfracombe shot stopper Rob Holmes, much to the delight of the many Buckland spectators at the game, and at this point I would like to thank those who did make the effort to come along to Coach Road, I saw several people from the club there including First Team players, regular spectators from Homers Heath and half a dozen members of the Ladies Team were also present along with several members of our committee. The game ebbed and flowed with both teams making chances but there was no increase in the score at the half time whistle. The second half again saw some nice football from both units with the new players this season in the Buckland side fitting in well and of course credit to veteran goalkeeper Paul Sharples,
clubwebsite.co.uk/bucklandathleticfc01

Homers Lines who had stood in between the sticks and have a very good game, commanding his area with the authority he has showed over the years. With twenty minutes left George Fice took one for the team as the saying goes when a lastditch foul tackle from behind, stopped the Ilfracombe striker getting his shot away, and George was promptly shown a red card by the referee. As the time wore on it looked like the game was going to finish with just the one goal separating the two teams but in the dying embers a great ball put Matt Beer through with a one-on-one with the keeper but he hurried his effort and it was very high over the crossbar almost going over the roof of the Devon County HQ building. But that disappointment was short lived when young 16-year-old James Colclough put the game beyond doubt with a very good finish which much belied his young age and was worthy of a much more experienced player. Not long after that final whistle sounded, and much to the delight of our travelling fans (although we didn't have to come that far) we all trooped off to the bar to celebrate. I
saw my good friend Tony Allcock, who is secretary of Ilfracombe and bought him a pint of Guinness and commiserated with him, and he told me that it would probably be well after midnight before they arrived back in Ilfracombe on the coach. The Second Team did the club proud winning the first trophy of the season for the club and well done to Snelly and Paul Tucker all we have to do now is get ready for a long hard season trying to retain their championship of the South Devon Football League Premier Division, not an easy task I feel. Well that's it for now on Saturday the FirstTeam travel away to Chipping Sodbury for their second league encounter of the season a place last year we drew 2-2. So hopefully we'll do better this time around. Cheers for now see you around the grounds somewhere, Roy Homer
Holmes – Club Chairman
Manager’s Say Good evening all. Welcome to our first league game of the season against the newly promoted Wellington. Saturday's loss to Bodmin was frustrating as we conceded poor goals but certainly made a game of it when we got on top and maybe could've of
wottonprinters.co.uk
got an equaliser, which our second half fight back deserved after having a man I think harshly sent off but we dust ourselves off and go again in our league campaign. The squad this year has a good balance of experience and youth and hopefully the established Buckland players can help bring along some good talented younger players who will be good additions to the team. Thanks for the support and enjoy the game. Ellis.

A Season Review 2016-17 What another fantastic season the whole club has enjoyed in the 2016-17 season, and now we need to bear in mind that the upcoming 2017-18 season will celebrate our 40th as a club (yes, there was a club named Buckland Athletic before this club started but was disbanded at least two seasons before this was formed just as a junior club on the Buckland Estate). Well in forty years the club has certainly grown and have progressed at just the right times in its history, which has seen many highs for the club. The 2016-17 was another high light across the club as a whole.
this season is definitely one to build on, and great a first season in charge for our manager Ellis Laight. We attracted 2289 spectators to our nineteen home league games at an average of 120.47, with our highest attendance being 211 when Willand Rovers were visitors, our lowest crowd was 96 when Longwell Green Sports came to the Heath. The club also won the Western League Hospitality Award and the Programme Award. End of season players awards: Supporters Player – Richard Groves Managers Player – Lloyd Gardner Players Player – Jared Lewington Young Player – Charlie Johansen
The 1st Team although falling just short of our ultimate goal of promotion to the Southern League, they had a great season, getting to the last eight (quarter-finals) of the FA Vase competition, having to play five ties away from home and notching up 1600 miles in the process. There won’t be many supporters and players that will forget this run, starting in the 1st Round away Sholing 3-0, then our one and only home tie, against Newport IOW 1-0. In the 3rd Round we were away at Horsham YMCA 3-0, with a 4th Round tie seeing us travel to Chichester City 3-1. Then came the game of the run away at Hinckley AFC 4-3, before bowing out of the competition away at Bromsgrove Sporting 2-0 played in front of a crowd of 2984 spectators. We must say they we took plenty of support to our away ties, which is impressive with the amount of miles involved.
The 2nd Team were again the best side in the South Devon League Premier Division, winning their third consecutive league title and this time by thirteen points, and they scored 115 goals in their 26 games, they were led to that title by Lee Chapman and Ben Robinson. This really is a great achievement, but again they fail to gain promotion to the South West Peninsula League due to the 1st Team failing to gain promotion to the Southern League. They won all thirteen away league games this season, suffering their two defeats here at Homers Heath, which meant they dropped just six points, in their twenty-six league games. End of season players awards: Managers Player – Jordan Ewing Players Player – Cameron Kelly Young Player – Jordan Ewing
It was a 4th place finish in the Western League Premier, but we accumulated our highest points total in our five seasons at Step Five, and this is a very competitive league to try and achieve our ultimate goal. We managed to get 83 points from 38 games, which was five points more than the previous seasons 4 th place finish, and when we finished as runnersup we secured 71 points from 36 games, so
The 3rd Team finished their season as runners -up for a second successive season in South Devon League Division One, losing just four league games in twenty-four. But they did win the Fred Hewings Cup for a sixth time when they defeated Kingsteignton Athletic 2nds at Plainmoor 3-1. Under new boss for the season, Phil Bearne, who had Paul Sharples and Nigel Holmes working alongside him, it was

A Season Review 2016-17 another very good season for this young talented side. End of season players awards: Managers Player – Max Hammett Players Player – Nick Edmunds & Alex Kearney Young Player – Corey Price Our Ladies 1st Team had a fantastic season, now playing in the South West Women’s League Western Division they won the league title by eight points, dropping just two points in this league campaign in fourteen games, that draw coming here at Homers Heath, which will see them in the South West Women’s League Premier Division for the 2017-18 season. They have yet to lose a league game in two seasons. They picked up a second piece of silverware when they won the Devon FA Senior Cup at Coach Road, beating MAPS on penalties in a great game. They didn’t stop there, they made it a treble winning season when they won SWWL Soccerworld League Cup Final played at Bishops Lydeard when they defeated Alphington Ladies 3-0. Again Laura Gough led the top scoring charts with 42 league and cups goals, with K Caunter scoring 31. End of season players awards:
Managers Player – Abi Bond Players Player – Abi Bond Young Player – Natalie Warman Top Goal Scorer – Laura Gough For the first time we had a Ladies 2nd Team (Development) who were playing their first season in the Devon Women’s League Premier Division, and they finished in a very creditable mid-table position. They also made it into the Devon FA Supplementary Final played at Coach Road against Premier Division champions Bideford Ladies, but were narrowly beaten 2-1 in that game. End of season players awards: Managers Player – Hannah Scofield Players Player – Leanne Kenward Young Player – Emily Martin Top Goal Scorer – Katie Burtwell Our Junior section enjoyed some cup success, with the club having five boys sides and a new Under 12 Girls side who went on to win their Devon Girls League Under 12 league without being beaten or dropping a point, a great achievement in their first season. With our Under 18 team seeing many of them being brought into the senior set up throughout the season.

Buck’s Ed’s Look At Wellington Hello and a very good evening to everyone attending tonight’s Western League Premier Division game against Wellington, Champions of Division One last season (2016-17), we welcome our visitors tonight, their management team, their players, club officials and of course their supporters that have made the journey to Homers Heath this evening. We hope you enjoy time here and make use of the facilities that we have to offer

before later on making a safe journey home. Wellington were crowned Division One champions last season, and it was fully deserved, and in their forty-two games, they won twenty-seven, drew eleven, lost four, scoring ninety-two, conceding 36, gaining ninety-two points, which is a very good record. At home in their twenty-one games, they remained unbeaten dropping just

Buck’s Ed’s Look At Wellington ten points, they won sixteen, drew five, scoring fifty-six, conceding sixteen, gaining fifty-three. Away they won eleven, drew six, lost four, scoring thirty-six, conceding twenty, gaining thirtynine points. Their biggest home win was 6-3 against Chippenham Park, whilst the biggest away win was at 4-1 at Calne Town. So tonight will be their first league game back in the Premier, and after tonight they will away at Bradford Town, then away at Wells City, followed by another away game, this time at Bridport, in fact the first eight league games are all away. The first spell began back in the 1981-82 season, and it lasted for three seasons, in that time they have finished in 17th place, 18th place and then 20th place and relegation followed this finish. In that time they had played 114 Premier games, winning 22, drawing 31, losing 61, scoring 125, conceding 231, and gaining 75 points. The second spell they were on started in the 2008-09 season and again lasted just three seasons, with a 7th place finish in that 2008-09 season, the second season it was a 13th and finally in that third season in the spell they finished with them being 18th place in

the 2010-11 season. In this time they had played 114 games, winning 38, drawing 20, losing fifty-six, scoring 198, conceding 212, going them 134 points, which was enough again for them to suffer relegation. So in those two spells in the Premier Division they played 228 games, winning 60, drawing 51, losing 117, scoring 323, conceding 443, collecting 29 points, which means they won 26% of those games, drawing 22%, losing 52%, scoring 1.41 goals per game, conceding 1.94 goals per game, collecting 0.92 points per game. They have had three spells in the Western League Division One, the first spell started in the 1978-79 season when they ended in the 198081 season in that time they finished in 8th in the first season, then came two 20th placed finishes. In this time they had played 114 games, winning 48, drawing 24, losing 42, scoring 166, conceding 141, gaining fifty-seven points. The second spell began in the 1984-85 season and this lasted for twenty-four seasons, and ended in the 2007-08 when they were crowned champions for the first time in Division One. In this spell they played 924 games, winning 337, drawing 207, losing 380, scoring 1457, conceding 1498, and gaining 1139 points. The third spell started in the 2011-12 season and this run lasted for six seasons, and in this time they played 212 games, winning 79, drawing 45, losing 88, scoring 347, conceding 367, and gaining 282 points. So in all three spells in Division One they played 1250 games, winning 464, drawing 276, losing 510, scoring 1970, conceding 2006, gaining 1559, which means they won 37% of those games, drawing 22%, losing 41%, scoring 1.57 goals per game, conceding 1.60 goals per game, collecting 1.24 points per game. On Saturday 5th August Wellinton were at home against fellow promotes Hengrove Athletic but they ending losing the 3-1 after they had taken a 1-0 lead in the tie. We wish Wellington the very best of luck for this coming season, but only after today’s game.

We have met before Match Report by Amy Alford Saturday 4th October 2014 Buckland Athletic 7 (SEVEN) Wellington 1 FA Vase - Second Qualification Round After mid-week progression in the St Lukes Bowl, Buckland returned back to their Homers Heath ground in the FA Vase, hoping for a second Cup victory within five days. Visiting the Heath for the first this afternoon were Wellington, a Western League Division One side whose League campaign so far had seen them collect six points from 12 league games. The starting line-up for Buckland was; Tom Buckler, Ben Head, Danny Gaze, Nick Rudge, Karl Green, Liam Head, Shane Gill, Mike Booth, Gavin Hammon, Ellis Laight and Dean Stevens. And the substitutes were; Kieran Parkin, Jared Lewington, Jordan Havlin, Liam Drew and Si Revell. Straight from the start, the tempo of the game was at a high pace - with the opening goal coming after just two minutes. A free kick was awarded to the visitors on the left hand side of the field. The incoming set piece saw hosts centraldefender Liam Head flick the ball over Tom Buckler and into his own net. Despite this less than impressive start, four minutes later the hosts were back in the game, equalising through Gavin Hammon. Shane Gill bullied his way through the midfield before squaring the ball in from the right, seeing Hammon push convert into the goal from close range. A further five minutes passed before Buckland turned the game on its head and took the lead, with Hammon scoring his second of the afternoon. A Danny Gaze free kick came into the box towards Mike Booth at the far post. Booth headed goalbound but Hammon followed in, from close range once more. Danny Gaze added one for himself and Bucks' third on 21 minutes, creating a two goal cushion. After assisting for the previous goal, Gaze burst

into the box, running onto a clever pass from Dean Stevens to fire a low drive into the bottom corner past Wellington's number one, Jake Viney. A fourth arrived on 31 minutes with Ellis Laight adding his name to the score-sheet with Shane Gill collecting his second assist for the game. Gill split the visiting defence, poking the ball between three defenders to see Laight slide in and push the ball beyond the reach of Viney. Andrew Butler denied Laight of his second, six minutes later - a whipping ball came into the box seeing the forward leaping up to header towards the near post, but the Wellington number seven prevented superbly, heading also, off the line. The pairing of Laight and Gill collaborated once more on 43 minutes for Buckland's fifth, entering into the half time break with a convincing lead. This time it was Laight assisting Gill, setting up the midfielder to hit into the empty net past the despairing keeper. Buckland headed into half-time firmly in the driving seat, controlling a game against a side whose defence looked a risk with every attack the hosts had. Upon their return to the field, Buckland's foot remained firmly stood on the pedal, netting a sixth within three minutes of the second half. Gavin Hammon had completed his hat-trick, taking his personal tally of league and cup goals to 13. A fantastic solo effort saw Hammon run through the field, brushing off any. competition that came his way. As he emerged into the box, a thumping strike left his right boot and rattled into the net. A series of substitutions from the home side followed, introducing attacking trio: Jordan Havlin, Kieran Parkin and Jared Lewington - who returned to the field just six weeks after sustaining a broken foot

His high work rate and hunger for the ball paid off on 69 minutes, returning back to scoring ways and completing the scoring for Buckland - their highest scoreline of the season so far. Danny Gaze crossed in from the left once more towards Lewington who rose above the challenging defender to head past Viney. An afternoon to forget for the visiting number one.

Bucks Ed’s Say Hello and very good evening to all of you attending our first Toolstation Western League Premier Division game against Division One champions Wellington. We hope that you all enjoy your time here at Homers Heath and make use of the facilities that we have to offer and later on have a safe journey home.
competition beaten on the 3-2, after going 3-0 down and then having Cameron Kelly sent off, but we really need to stop giving too many sides goals starts in games, our goals in this game from a fine solo effort from Lloyd Gardner and the second from the highly talented youngster Charlie Johansen.
I will have to apologise at this point as some programmes will not be up to usual standard but at this time I don’t have as much time to spend on the publication as I would like too. Please bear with me at this time as usual service I am sure will be resumed when it is possible to do so. I would just like to add that this is my twentieth year of producing a Buckland programme and last season we again won the Western League best Programme award. This wouldn’t be possible without the great input of our programme sponsors Wotton Printers, boss Roger Mann and design man Mark and all the workers that put this publication together, I must give a big thank you to. I would also like to thank our very own Si Laughton of Lawtz Design Group who over the summer designed us the new front and back cover for this seasons programme, the first time in ten seasons that the cover has been changed, so thank you big man. I would also like to thank my great contributors who again put themselves out to write something for these programmes all in their spare time (which isn’t that much after the hours they put in weekly for the love our great club, Buckland Athletic), those are Roy Holmes, John Piller, Ellis Laight, Liam Head, I appreciate all that you do. We also won the Western League hospitality award last season which is most pleasing as this is down to visiting clubs awarding you marks.
We have met Wellington once before in the 2014-15 season on Saturday 4th October in the 2nd Qualifying Round of the FA Vase here at Homers Heath, and we ran out 7-1 winners that day, the scorers were Gavin Hammon with a hat-trick, Danny Gaze, Shane Gill, Ellis Laight and Jared Lewington, and the attendance that day was 89
The 1st Team’s season is already up and running with their FA Cup Extra-Preliminary Round tie here at Homers Heath against Bodmin Town, and once again we ended up going out at this early stage of this famous

First Division: Bristol Telephones made an excellent start to life in the Toolstation League, coming from behind to defeat Bishop Sutton 4-1 at Stockwood Lane. After trailing at the break, the Bristol side hit back to claim all three points thanks to goals from Lee Pitman, Leon Britton and Dhani Golding (2). The biggest crowd on the opening day of the First Division were at the Southbank Ground, yet were left disappointed as Calne Town claimed a 2-1 win over Corsham Town. Calne had goals from Kieron Gleed and Jake Brand to thank for their win, with Chippenham Park defeating Almondsbury 1-0 thanks to a firsthalf Aaron Ledgister penalty. The only draw of the day took place at the Lancer Scott Stadium, where Welton Rovers struck late to share the points against Ashton & Backwell United in a game which finished 2-2. Joe Battrick put Welton ahead in the 28th minute thanks to a Lewis Coleman cross, only for Ashton to hit back through Sam Skidmore with an equaliser just before half-time. Solomon Shearer then scored six minutes from time to give Ashton a late lead, but they couldn’t hold on and Charlie Babb rescued things for Welton with a late leveller. Warminster Town claimed a 2-0 win away at Chard Town thanks to second half goals from Charlie Walton and Jack Miluk, while Dan Kovacs and Jordan Pinder each registered opening day goals for Westbury United in their 2-0 triumph over Oldland Abbotonians. Another side to get their season off to a winning start was Portishead Town, who came from behind to defeat Malmesbury Victoria 21. Shane Bumphrey had given Malmesbury a lead at the break, but Portishead fought back to take the win following goals from Dan Elson and Olly Hatfield. Bishops Lydeard got their campaign off to a cracking start, with three different scorers helping them to a 3-1 win

away at Roman Glass St George. Zac Ryder gave the visitors the ideal start in the 18th minute, firing home the game’s opening goal, but their joy didn’t last long with Roman Glass equalising ten minutes later. Not long after, Lydeard were back ahead thanks to a leftfooted effort from Jake Quick, before he then turned provider for Luke Redrup to slot home their third. There was also an impressive victory on the opening day for Radstock Town, who defeated Wincanton Town 4-1 thanks to goals from Jack Whitcombe, Simon Millard, Tom Pawley and Jack Biddiscombe. FA Cup: In the extra-preliminary round of FA Cup qualifying, Neikell Plummer notched a hat -trick in Brislington’s 6-1 thumping of Sherborne Town at Ironmould Lane. Fabian McCarthy, Jason Hughes and Danny Hunt also got on the scoresheet as Brislington made a fantastic start to their campaign. In a seven-goal thriller at Trowbridge Road, goals from Asa White, Kane Simpson, Kye Simpson and Adam Bouchama saw Odd Down progress to the next round following a 4-3 win over Bradford Town. Simon McElroy grabbed a brace in Cadbury Heath’s 4-1 win over Longwell Green Sports, while five goals after the break from Syd Camper, Jake Llewellyn, Matt Connick, Dave Pearse and Mike Duffy fired Bridgwater Town to a 5-2 defeat of Keynsham Town. James Blake was another to score twice as Willand Rovers claimed a 2-0 win away at Cheddar, while Luke Crewe went one better, nabbing a hat-trick as Hengrove Athletic booked their passage through to the next round after beating Wellington 3-1. There was heartbreak for Melksham Town, who conceded late in the piece to suffer a 2-1 defeat against Horndean at Five Heads Park. Melksham went ahead just after half-time, with Mike Perrott prodding home from a corner, yet they conceded twice

in the final ten minutes with the Wessex Premier League outfit taking their place in the next round. Buckland Athletic were another to fall at the first hurdle, losing 3-2 at home to Bodmin Town despite goals from Charlie Johansen and Lloyd Gardner, with Shepton Mallet also out following a 4-1 defeat at home to Tavistock. There was joy for Chipping Sodbury Town, with Liam Pullen, Dan Clements and Justin Bishop all on the scoresheet in their 3-1 win at home to Brackley Town Saints, with Wells City joining them in the next round following a 2-1 win at home to Cribbs. Bridport will face a replay on Wednesday evening after drawing 1-1 away at St Austell, with Street and Hallen set to do likewise on Tuesday evening after drawing 1-1 at the Tannery Ground. There was also a draw at the Hand Stadium, where Bitton fought back from two goals down to grab a 2-2 draw with Clevedon Town. Clevedon went ahead just after the half-hour mark when Kaine Gazzard headed home an Alex Russell corner, and they then doubled their lead in the opening moments of the second half when Daine O’Connor found the back of the net. The away side clawed their way back into the game when Ross Beazer scored 20 minutes from time, before Joe McLennan fired home a free-kick in added time to secure a replay. BUCKLAND Athletic began what was an exciting start to the new campaign with a cup double header last Friday and Saturday writes Kerry Miller. With the first team preparing to welcome SW Peninsula League favourites Bodmin Town in the FA Cup on Saturday, the Reserves were in action in the final of the Devon Champions Cup, at Coach Road Newton Abbot the night before.

Having won the South Devon League last season they qualified to play in the brand new competition, sponsored by football benefactor Carl Throgmorton, which paired the champions from the North Devon, South Devon, Devon and Exeter and Plymouth Leagues in semifinals, the winners to play for the stunning new cup at the home of Devon FA. In the end Buckland overcame all the odds to beat Ilfracombe Town 2-0, despite playing 20 minutes with ten men in an all action game in front of a good crowd. Buckland lost Jordan Ewing to injury early on as they looked to dominate but just before the half hour Sam Dicken got up to nod in the opener. After the break Ilfracombe threw everything at Buckland who lost further men to injury and then George Fice, sent off for a last man tackle, but they somehow hung on and in stoppage time James Colclough ensured the cup was staying in Newton Abbot. Fifteen hours later the first team were home to Bodmin Town in the FA Cup and after a frantic game with five goals and two sendings off, the Cornish side earned a trip to Hengrove Athletic on Saturday week following their 3-2 victory. Goals from Lloyd Gardner and Charlie Johansen were not enough as after Cam Kelly and Adam Kelly were sent off, Bodmin held on and look forward to a long trip to Bristol on August 19. Toolstation Cup: In the annual Toolstation Charity Cup, Street lost out to AFC Mansfield of the Northern Counties East League in a pulsating encounter at the home of Cribbs. The Bulls, who were formed in 2012, took the lead just before the half-hour mark thanks to an excellent finish from Cameron Dear. Street then battled back, scoring twice in the minutes

leading up to half-time, to take a 2-1 lead with them to the break. Dale Hunt scored the equaliser for Richard Fey’s men following excellent work down the right from Josh Wadham, with the same man then assisting from the opposite flank for David O’Hare to put Street ahead in added time at the end of the first half. Unfortunately for the Cobblers, they

Buckland Bring Champions Cup to South Devon On a balmy summer evening at Coach Road, Buckland Athletic enjoyed a fairly comfortable 2-0 win against Peninsula-bound Ilfracombe Town in the final of the Throgmorton Champions Cup, bringing the trophy to South Devon for the first time in its short history. After having come back from behind to knock out Premier Cup runners-up FC Windmill in their semi-final, Ilfracombe were many people’s favourites before the game but although the North Devon side started strongly, Josh Phillips testing Paul Sharples’ gloves with a smart 3rd minute shot, they found themselves on the back foot for much of the game. Buckland’s first real attempt came on 7 minutes, Matt Beer sending in a dangerous free-kick from the left and Sam Dicken heading into the side netting from an offside position. They were to suffer an early blow though, prolific goalscorer Jordan Ewing leaving the field following a 9th minute challenge on the end of the Ilfracombe box. His replacement, young James Colclough would go on to play an important part in the result. Four minutes later, a tidy turn from Shane Gill in midfield set Colclough away on the left but his low ball

across the goal just evaded Beer on the far post. Beer was in the action again in the 17th minute with a bending half-volley from the right which drew applause from the crowd. Two minutes later, as Sharples punched clear an Ilfracombe free-kick, Buckland broke quickly, Beer sending in a great cross for Dicken but Nick Coupland getting an important interception to prevent another chance. Buckland’s defence held firm as Richard Watkins rose to meet a free-kick while, at the other end, Ilfracombe’s defence was beginning to look stretched, Matt Atkin going close with a low shot past the left-hand upright. Buckland’s attacking momentum eventually paid off after 27 minutes, Si Laughton’s long legs turning defence into attack and Dicken leaping from the resultant left-side cross to head over the advancing Robert Holmes. The goal was followed by a flat five minutes before a one-two between Will berry and Simon Townsend ended with the latter forcing Sharples to push his low shot around the left hand post. A minute later, Cassian Blackmore took a tumble just inside the box under pressure from Laughton but Ryan Hedges waved away the Ilfracombe shouts for a penalty. At the other end, Ilfracombe managed to get Beer’s square ball into the box away before

Buckland Bring Champions Cup to South Devon Dicken could get on the end of it. Dicken was inches away in the 37th minute too as Gill sent in a deep cross which the striker couldn’t quite get his head on to. Buckland were showing no quarter at the back as Ilfracombe tried to fashion a chance. Moments later, Laughton’s long ball from the back almost caught Danny Ball out as Beer looked to get on the score sheet. Holmes positioned himself well though and pushed Beer’s effort over the bar. The last real effort of the half went the Bluebirds’ way; Lee Chapman blocked a Berry shot but Blackmore picked up the ball, beating his man and cutting in from the right-hand side along the by-line. Unfortunately for the North Devon side, he was unable to do anything but hit the ball into the side-netting. The last action of the half saw Chapman make his way into Mr Hedges’ book after bundling his man down in the centre of the park in stoppage time. HT: Buckland Athletic 1 – 0 Ilfracombe Town Ilfracombe started the second half on the attack but Buckland soon started to press again and after 7 minutes, Chapman made Holmes stretch to tip over a header following a left-side corner which had been headed back into the mix. Two minutes later, a superb flighted ball from the left nestled into the corner of Sharples’ goal but only after the whistle had already been blown for offside. In the 55th minute, Colclough tested Holmes’ reactions but again the whistle brought back play, Dicken seeing yellow for an earlier foul. Colclough might have joined him on another day after a late challenge on Ilfracombe skipper Radley Watkins barely a minute later. Quarter of an hour in, it looked as if the Blues had levelled when a lapse in concentration at the back allowed Townsend to get to the by-line and pull the ball back. A Buckland player got a leg to it and the ball hit the bar before Sharples clawed it away with one arm. An Ilfracombe player went down under pressure from a Buckland defender but no penalty was given and the

Yellows could breathe again. Buckland started to ramp up the pressure again after that, attacking down both flanks but Ilfracombe defending well. After another lull in play, an Ilfracombe defender sliced a ball over the top of Holmes’ goal halfway through the half. From the resultant corner, Buckland blazed a shot over. Ilfracombe then brought on Tom Hannah for Danny Ball as Josh Phillips prepared to take a free-kick conceded by Hayman just inside the Buckland half. Phillips sent it in long towards Sharples but the Buckland ‘keeper gathered it comfortably and sent George Fice scampering away down the left. The full-back went down in the box under pressure from Brodie Montague but was only awarded the corner. Colclough then sent a low cross not the box which was half-cleared to Hayman who misdirected his shot, allowing Ilfracombe to clear. From the break, the last man Fice put his arm in the back of Blackmore who went down on the edge of the box. Fice was dealt the obligatory red card but the wall did its job and the free-kick ended up going harmlessly wide. Spurred on by the man advantage, Ilfracombe pushed again, Berry sending in a nice ball from the left but Radley Watkins heading wide of the mark. Moments later, Blackmore surged between two Buckland players but was rightly pulled up for handling the ball. Allsworth became the next player booked, after a crunching challenge on Berry, and manager Neil Snell brought on Charlie Harding in place of Dicken as Buckland prepared for what could have been a tough last 15 minutes. It was certainly tough for skipper Nick Hayman who picked up a nasty head injury following the free-kick and had to be replaced by Max Hammett. With 7 minutes of normal time left, Holmes just about beat the onrushing Beer to the ball on the edge of his box. Moments later, Chapman disrupted a Montague and Berry break and Allsworth picked out a runner on the right, played onside by Richard Watkins.

Buckland Bring Champions Cup to South Devon The Buckland man fired well over the crossbar to let Ilfracombe off the hook. Shaun Brown came on for Coupland for the final 6 minutes which saw chances at both ends. In the 40th minute, Colclough created some space for Beer who beat Berry for pace but was caught offside. His effort, curled towards the top corner, was well saved by Holmes anyway. After Sharples had come out well to get rid of a hopeful route one attack down the right, the following Ilfracombe sortie was rewarded with a free-kick. The ball was delivered in well but hit an Ilfracombe head as it flashed past the goal before going behind. As the game headed towards full-time, Ilfracombe’s Simon Townsend became the first player from his side to be booked after a foul on the right-hand side. Chapman then did well to dispossess Josh Phillips down the left but Ilfracombe snuffed out the danger and won a quickly-taken throw. Charlie Prentice then robbed Allsworth and sent Montague away. Sharples came out to meet him but was outside the box and needed to use his feet. Montague took the ball past the ‘keeper but the returning Hammett got in his way with a block. The resultant corner came to naught and as the game went into a lengthy period of stoppage time, Buckland looked to kill the game off once and for all. Beer switched the ball to Allsworth on the right who won a corner. Ilfracombe headed the ball away but only as far as Gill who cleared the ground with his strike. Next it was Beer’s turn to go for glory. The referee played advantage after a foul in midfield and Beer brought the ball to the end of the box before blasting over. His decisionmaking moments later proved far more effective. Through on goal again, this time he played the ball across the box to Colclough who composed himself before calmly stroking a left-footed shot past Robert Holmes, three minutes into stoppage time. From the restart, Ilfracombe tried again to get

something from the game, Laughton sliding in expertly to take the ball away from Prentice. Buckland then went close when a cheeky back-heel by Beer set Gill up, his shot wide of the post. The final chance of the game, after 7 minutes of stoppage time, came from an Ilfracombe corner after a blocked Montague free-kick. The corner once again flashed across the face of goal but was deflected wide of the mark. FT: Buckland Athletic 2 – 0 Ilfracombe Town Goals: Sam Dicken (27); James Colclough (90+3) Buckland: 1. Down Memory Lane Hello everybody and welcome to another journey into the distant past when today I will be travelling back the 1969-70 season and look at a programme, I bought in a batch recently on eBay to add to my own collection to keep this feature in the programme ticking over.
Today's memory lane sees me take a look at an Oldham Athletic programme from Tuesday 10th February 1970 when the visitors to Boundary Park were Lincoln City in a League Division Four fixture. All this information is contained on the front cover along with an action shot black and white picture from a recent game played here. Other information tells us that the cost of this edition was 9d in old money and also that the next game here will be on Saturday when the visitors will be Notts County, with a strange kick-off time of 3.15pm. Page 2 contains four adverts, top left A Hallwood and Sons Ltd-general builders, top right is E Hudson and Co-general drapers, bottom left LV Lawlar Printers and the bottom right

Woods World Travel-a coach company. Page 3 contains a list of the dignitaries at the club for example chairman, secretary and directors and informs us that the current manager is a Jimmy Frizzle, a well-known manager around this time in history. The rest of the page contains the manager’s notes where he says he is disappointed in the performance of the team over the last three games collecting only two points instead of the six he had hoped for. He also looks forward to tonight's fixture against Lincoln and is convinced Oldham can do the double over them. Page 4 contains two half page adverts, the top one for ICI-who are looking for chemical process workers with the second advert being for C Pitt-Textile Manufacturers. Page 5 is called ‘On Duty This Season’ and lists all the players that have played in either the First or the Second Team this season so far, with Ian Wood being the only ever present player for the First Team having played in all league and cup games so far this term. The bottom quarter of this page contains an advert for Jack Glynn-Carpenter and Joiner. Pages 6 and 7, the centre pages contain the two team line-ups for tonight’s fixture listed in the 1 to 12 format, also on this page it lists the three officials who will play their part no doubt. As was the trend in this era there are four adverts around the two team line-ups, top left S Jackson-tailors, bottom left G Whitakers-jewellers and Goldsmiths, top right SW Hawley and Company Ltd-wholesale cigarette, cigar and tobacco suppliers, bottom right F. J. Watson's -carpet company. Page 8 contains a rather brief set of pen pictures of the Lincoln City players who may take part in tonight's fixture, the bottom half of this page is an advert for F Shaw-a DIY store who specialise in timber and formica along with a famous range of paints. Page 10 contains the fixtures for the full season on the lefthand side for the First Team fixtures going down the page with the Second Team doing the same on the right-hand side of the page. All the games played have their scores entered although that is all, no list of the attendance at each game or what players had taken part or scored. Looking at these results I see Oldham took a caning away at Peterborough when they lost 8-1. Page 11 is once again devoted to four adverts, top left J Clayton of Oldham Ltd-a local scrapyard dealer, bottom left John Horsham Ltd-a pork pie maker, top right Pennine Petroleum Products-oil and petrol distributors, and bottom right Ben Shaws-soft drink company (who are still going strong today as I occasionally buy some of their products for the bar). Page 12 the outside back cover contains one full-page advert for Easifit-stretch covers, which apparently make any chair or settee look brand-new in minutes. The two team lineups for today's fixture were as follows: Oldham Athletic who in these days I see played with a tangerine shirt, blue shorts and blue socks. Oldham Athletic: Goalkeeper-Barry Gordine, 2 - Ian Wood, 3 Maurice Whittle, 4 - Alan MacNeill, 5-Arthur Thompson, 6 - lan Lawson, 7 - Reg Bloore, 8 David Shaw, 9 - John Colquhoun, 10 - Keith
Bebbington, 11 - John Bingham, 12 - Derek Beardall. Lincoln City: Goalkeeper -John Kennedy, 2- Graham Taylor, 3 - George Peden, 4 - Phil Hubbard, 5 Ray Harford, 6 - Jim Grummett, 7 - Gordon Hughes, 8 - Bobby Svarc, 9 - Rod Fletcher, 10 - Billy Taylor, 11 - Dave Smith, 12 - Tom Brooks. A bit of research tells me that this game ended all square at one goal each with Oldham's goal coming from David Shaw and the reply for Lincoln being scored by Billy Taylor, I was unable to find the attendance at the game but have researched a bit further to find out that the League Division Four champions at the end of this 1969-70 season were Chesterfield who managed to accumulate 64 points from their 46 league games (bearing in mind in these old-fashioned days it was only two points for a win) in the runners-up spot it was Wrexham with 61 points, third Swansea City 60 points and fourth Port Vale with 59. In last and 24th place was Bradford Park Avenue with 23 points and in 23rd place was Hartlepool with 30 points. Lincoln City finished in eighth position with 50 points, Oldham finished in 19th position behind Exeter City on goal difference with 39 points. Well that's it for this time will journey back in time together again soon. Cheers for now, Roy Homer Holmes.

Buckland Athletic - A Club History The club was formed in 1977 purely as a junior club. We started life in the Torbay Pioneer League and Sandringham Park was our home pitch. As a junior club it was the biggest in the area, running a total of six sides in six different age groups for several seasons. We won many titles over the years including the Devon Youth Cup. In the season of 1987-88 we were accepted into the Devon and Exeter League and started our senior football life in Senior Division Three playing home games at Coach Road with Roy Holmes still in charge. In our first season we won the Championship and were promoted into Senior Two in 1988-89. Well in the 1989-90 season we gained promotion once more into Senior One these two promotions were gained with a very youthful side. In 1990-91 we were on the move again this time to Decoy and this season saw us win the Wheaton Trophy. We finally achieved our dream of being promoted to the Premier Division in 1992-93, having now moved to our old ground at Homers Lane and the club hasn't looked back since that move took place. In 1994-95 season saw Roy Holmes step down as first team manager and Nigel Holmes and Roger Madge took the job on. This was the season we won our first Premier Division Championship, a crowning glory to our The club was formed in 1977 purely as a junior club. This was the season we won our first Premier Division Championship, a crowning glory to our runners-up in the league, we also picked up the Sportsmanship Cup and Programme Award. 2001-2002 was great season for the club as the

Reserves went through the season undefeated in the Devon and Exeter Senior Division Two and were promoted to Senior One. The first team ended the season in sixth place in the league table and were beaten finalists in the Throgmorton Cup. 2002-2003 was another successful season in the life of Buckland, the Reserves won the Devon FA Senior Cup at Coach Road, beating Princess Yachts International 3-0. They were also promoted to the Premier Division of the Devon and Exeter League after finishing in third place, that was only decided on their last game of the season when the top three sides were all in with a chance of securing the title. The First team finished up third in the table which at the start of the season was, as many supporters said beyond them but the managers got good players in at the right times through the season. We also won the Devon League programme award and finished 29th out of a total of 1100 non league programme in the renowned Wirral awards. 2003-2004 was a new era in the club’s history, a third senior side was established and went on to win The South Devon League Division Seven Championship with ease. The First team finished in eighth place, with Gary Taylor stepping down from his assistant manager position, their lowest position since joining the Devon League. The Reserves finished in fourth spot in The Devon and Exeter Premier Division, Manager Simon Glanfield stood down as manager. The programme finished first in the Devon League section of the Wirral programme awards and 11th out of 1100 non-league programmes. 2004-05 we did better than the previous season by finishing in 7 th place. Throughout this season the new ground was being worked on by a loyal band of club people. In the final year of the Wirral programme awards we finished in our highest position of sixth out of 1100, winners were Exeter City. For the 2005-06 season we started life playing our games at our new permanent home, Homers Heath on the Kingskerswell Road. The move went very well, and the ground was opened on Saturday 13th July when an estimated 300 + people turned out to see Steve Perryman cut the ribbon to open the pitch. Plymouth Argyle bringing a team up on Wednesday 13th July followed this up. And Argyle Chairman Mr Stapleton officially opened the clubhouse. Paul Feasby and Andy Paddon were in charge of the First team and we finished in our lowest league position of 13th. In the 2006-07 season all the talk was about the re-structuring of the Devon League and South Western League. One League with three Divisions was being formed called the South West Peninsula League. We managed to finish the season in 12th place under the leadership of Phil Bayliss and Gary Taylor and we had done just enough to meet our goal of qualifying for the SWPL

Buckland Athletic - A Club History Premier Division along side the topsides in both the South Western and Devon Leagues. The 2007-08 season was an extremely successful one for the club, the first team finished in 14th place in the new South West Peninsula League Premier Division. We won the SWPL Premier Division best ground award, which is voted by the other clubs visits to Homers Heath we also won the SWPL Programme award. The Reserves won the South Devon League Division 3 title, were runners-up in the prestigious Herald Cup, Devon Intermediate Cup Winners and Divisional Cup winners. The 3rd Team won the SDL Division 6 title, the Fred Hewings Cup and their Divisional Cup Final. In the 2008-09 season, the club enjoyed another successful season, the 1st team finished the season in 3rd place in the SWPL Premier Division, and for the second season running we won both the ground and programme award for the Premier division. The 2nd Team had a highly successful season, winning the South Devon League Division Two title and getting promoted to Division One, they also won the Devon Senior Cup with a 1-0 win over Lifton at Coach Road, this for the second time in the club's history. However, 2nd Team manager Ian Miller decided it was time to step down and concentrate on his now role as the clubs commercial agent having enjoyed huge success with the 2nd Team. The 3rd Team finished in second placed in the SDL Division Five and gained promotion to Division Four. Our Under 14 side also were very successful, winning their league title and league cup and winning the Devon FA County Cup at Coach Road with a fine 41 win over Plymouth Kolts. Buckland had a phenomenal season in 2009-10, the 1st team did the double, winning the SWPL Premier Division title and the Throgmorton Cup pipping Bodmin Town to both, in what was manager Phil Bayliss’ last season in charge. They lost just three times in the league and were unbeaten in all their 19 home games. We also played in the famous FA Cup competition for the first time in the club’s history. They actually won the league on goal difference from Bodmin Town and they also beat them 2-1 after extra time in the Throgmorton Cup final played at Cullompton’s Speed Meadow. This was a wonderful way for Phil to hand over control to new manager Steve Massey for the 2010-11 season. The 2nd Team had a very successful season once again, this time they won the SDL Division One league title and they retained the Devon Senior Cup Final beating Elburton Villa Reserves at Coach Road 3-1. Again the 2nd Team manager Jim Barrett also decided to resign at the end of the season and Adam Castle will now be in charge of their new quest in the SDL Premier Division. The 3rd Team won the SDL
wottonprinters.co.uk
Division Four league title, and they will be managed again this coming season by Scott Chisholm, who has guided them to many successes over number years. The success kept coming in the 2010-11 season, the 1st Team retained the SWPL Premier Division title, by an eight point margin, they also became the lowest ranked club to win the Devon St Lukes Bowl when they defeated Tiverton Town on penalties in that final. The 2nd Team finished in 3rd place in their first season in the SDL Premier Division, and they did win the George Belli Cup, defeating Totnes & Dartington 2nds 4-2. The 3rd team also finished in 3rd place in SDL Division 3, are they achieved promotion. They also won the Fred Hewings Cup for the second time, when they defeated WBB 2nds 1-0. The Junior side of the club continues to grow, but we have lost both Under 16 sides, but a lot of those players ware now signing senior forms for club, so hopefully we will find a number of young stars for all three senior sides. The 2011-12 season was another significant one in the history of Buckland Athletic. Although the 1 st team relinquished their grip on the SWPL Premier Division title, beaten into second place by a very good Bodmin Town side, we had done enough to secure promotion to the Toolstation Western League Premier Division at Step 5. We were also beaten finalists in the Throgmorton Cup, again losing out to Bodmin Town, but we did retain the prestigious Devon St Lukes Bowl, again we played Tiverton town (Step 4) in the final, this time at the Heath, but this season we ran out worthy winners in 90 minutes, 4-0. The 2nd Team finished as runners-up in the SDL Premier Division, but they did win the Herald Cup for the first time in the clubs history, beating Watcombe Wanderers in that final 3-2 after extra time. They also made it through to the semifinals of the Devon Premier Cup, beaten by eventual winners and SWPL Division One East winners Liverton United. The 3rd Team didn’t win any silverware this season, but they had a great season, finishing in fourth place in the SDL Division Two table, and were beaten finalists in the Lidstone Cup. But the most pleasing part for the 3rds were the amount of the previous seasons Under 16s side made it into the side throughout the season. Manager Scott Chisholm has now decided to stand down as 3rd Team manager, he has been in charge of them since the teams formation in 2003, and had won promotion every season, until this one. Scott will be missed but he will remain involved with the club off the field, with former 1st team stalwarts Neil Montandon and Ben Williamson taking on the manager role with help from Nigel Holmes for the 2012-13 season. Antony Lynch will again lead the 1st Team, alongside his assistant Tom Kelly, but we have lost another stalwart for the new season, as assistant manager

Buckland Athletic - A Club History Jaimie Carwardine has now moved away from the area and has had to stand down, and again he will be sorely missed. Adam Castle will once again be in charge of the 2nd Team assisted by Paul Tucker, Simon Dungey and Steve Giles. The 1st Team’s first season in the Toolstation Western League ended in a tenth place finish, but the club did the Hospitality award and programme award in this first campaign. The 2nd Team won the South Devon League Premier Division title for the first time in its history, they also lost out in the finals of both the Devon Premier Cup and Herald Cup to Exmouth Town and Watcombe Wanderers respectively. The 3rd Team finished in third place in SDL Division Two, and were promoted to Division One, they also won the Fred Hewings Cup beating Totnes & Dartington 3rds. For the 2013-14, our highly successful 2nd Team manager, Adam Castle will now be in charge of the 1 st Team for its second season in the Western League Premier Division. There is a new man in charge of the 2nd Team, Simon Dungey will be the man to lead them in this campaign, while the 3rd Team will be once again lead by Neil Montandon. In his first season in charge of the 1st Team, Adam Castle led them to an 11th place finish in the Toolstation Western League Premier Division. The club retained the Premier Division Programme award. The 2nd Team finished in 4th place in the South Devon League Premier Division, and were beaten finalists in the Herald Cup, going down 3-1 to Watcombe Wanderers. The 2rd Team finished as runners-up to Dartmouth in the South Devon League Division One, but they retained the Fred Hewings Cup by beating Watcombe Wanderers 2nds 2-1, this was their third win of this trophy in the last four seasons. What another great season for the club was 2014-15, the 1st Team managed by Adam Castle finished as runners-up in the Western League Premier Division (Step Five), which was a great achievement, we also won the Premier Division programme award for the third consecutive season. The 2nd Team led by Neil Snell ended this season as Champions of the South Devon League Premier Division, and our 3rd Team managed by club stalwart Nigel Holmes also finished as champions, this time of the South Devon League Division One, and they also retained the Fred Hewings Cup winning it for the fifth time, they also introduced a few of our talented Under 16s players into senior football. Now onto the 2015-16 season, firstly there was substantial drainage work done to the playing surface during the summer, and we must thank Viridor Credits
wottonprinters.co.uk
for their help in funding these works. Onto the football, the 1st Team managed by Adam Castle finished in 4th Place in the Western League Premier Division, but not good enough to reach our goal of promotion. The 2nd Team managed again by Neil Snell retained the South Devon League Premier Division title, and were beaten finalists in the Herald Cup. Our 3rd Team finished the season in the South Devon League Division One as runners-up, in what was manager Nigel Holmes last season in charge. The club fielded it’s first Ladies team managed by Grant Fisher, in the Devon Women's League Division One, and they didn’t drop a point when winning the league title, and they then added the League Cup, in what was a fantastic season for them. Also during the season a lot of work was carried out at Homers Heath, including a new covered standing area, which incorporates two new turnstiles. The ground was fenced in, and an impressive outside toilet block was built. This work allowed the club to achieve a ‘D’ Ground Grade which is good enough for Southern League football. 2016-17 was another very good season for the club, the 1st Team finished in 4th place in the Western League Premier, and collected their best points tally since joining the league. The team also reached in the last eight of the FA Vase, going down 2-0 away against Bromsgrove Sporting, this means that it was very good season for new manager Ellis Laight. The club also won the Western League Hospitality Award and best programme award this season. The 2nd Team won their third consecutive South Devon League Premier Division title, under the leadership of Lee Chapman and Ben Robertson. Our 3rd Team under Phil Bearne and Paul Sharples finished as runners-up in the South Devon League Division One, and won their sixth Fred Hewings Cup trophy. Now on to our all conquering Ladies 1st Team who won the South West Women's League Western Division, dropping just two points over their unbeaten season. They also added the Soccerworld League Cup and the Devon FA Senior Cup to that success which saw them end this season as treble winners. Our Ladies 2nd Team finished mid-table in a very hard Devon Women's League Premier Division, and were beaten finalists in the Devon FA Supplementary Cup. There were also varies successes for our Junior sides, bot boys and girls. We now move onto the 2017-18 season, again the aim is for the 1st Team to gain promotion to the Southern League, which in turn would allow the 2nd Team if they finished in a promotion position to move up to the South West Peninsula League. The 1st Team will again be managed by Ellis Laight, and have kept all but one of last season squad. The 2nd Team will be

Buckland Athletic - A Club History & Honours led by Lee Chapman with the 3rd Team having Nigel Holmes in charge. The Ladies1st and 2nd Teams keep their management structure for this coming season, with the 1st Team now in the SWWL Premier Division and the 2nd Team in Devon Women's League Premier Division. There will also be more junior sides added in both boys and girls teams,. The club continues to grow, and with everyone pulling in the right direction, which includes our fantastic loyal sponsors, and supporters he sky is the limit to what we can achieve. The club continues to thrive both on and off the field of the play and this is due to the hard working ethics of all the volunteers within the club.
