It is with a deep sadness that I open this Homers Lines with the very sad news of the death of long serving club stalwart Charlie Hardingham who sadly passed away on Saturday morning just after 9:30 am, after an illness that had laid him low over the last few weeks. Many of you here will have known Charlie as he was often at the ground doing various bits and pieces i.e. washing kits/ frying chips/painting and many other things that he turned his hand to, that enabled us to run the club the way we do. Charlie was actually at this club before myself, and in fact was the man who asked me to join and become a linesman for the team he was running at the time, which was the under 14’s in which both his son Paul and my son Billy played, that all seems such a long time ago now. I will do a better piece on Charlie in a later programme as he deserves it, also I will give out any funeral details I hear of at a later date.
Mallet in a Toolstation Western league Premier division fixture. We would like to give a big warm Buckland style welcome to tonight’s visitors their players/management team/club officials and spectators who have made the journey down to Devon this evening. We do hope you all enjoy your short stay with us and will join us in the clubhouse after the final whistle for a bite to eat and a pint before making a safe journey homewards. Shepton Mallet like ourselves made a hasty exit from the FA Cup extra preliminary round on the 5th of August, when they were well beaten at home by South West Peninsula side and champions last term Tavistock 4/1. I have seen at Tavistock play this season when I watched them demolish St Austell 6/1 in the South West Peninsula league charity shield match played at Newton Abbot Spurs ground a couple of weeks ago. In the league Shepton Mallet have just played just one league fixture which was on Saturday at home against Cribbs which they lost by the only goal of the game.
Tonight we will hold a minutes silence which will give us time to think of and remember Charlie . Thank you.
As I said earlier we also made a rather disappointing early exit from the FA Cup for the second season running not getting past the first hurdle when we were beaten here against old rivals from our days in the south-west peninsular league Bodmin town by the odd goal in five.
Hello everyone and welcome along to Homers Heath for the third time this season when we entertained visitors Shepton
We had an early chance to put that defeat behind us when we entertained newly promoted, Wellington Town here the

following Tuesday night, which we did with us this time coming out on top by the odd goal in five. We started this game in fine style and looked by far the better team in the opening stages and a good chance was headed over by Jared Lewington very early on, but were in front after 6 minutes when Richard Groves scored from the penalty spot after a visiting defender, Glenn Wright, had handled the ball in the area. In the 22nd minute our advantage was doubled when Groves again got his name on the score-sheet after his shot seemed to take a slight deflection off , Wellington defender Mitch Woodgate before evading Wellington goalkeeper Connor SidleyAdams. In the 31st minute, Wellington pulled a goal back after Wright had played a good ball into Jack Taylor, who slotted the ball home. The visitors then went through their best period of the half after a slow start. They began to look a very useful outfit, and only a double save by Adam Seedhouse-Evans [it’s not often you see two goalkeepers with doublebarrelled names] kept our advantage when his first save from Jack Bryant was swiftly followed by another from Wright. We held the advantage until the half-time whistle as the players trooped off for the 10 minute interval. Early in the second period the visiting keeper made a good save to keep the score at 2-1, but we edged further in front when a corner from the right hand grandstand side was met superbly by centre back Cameron Kelly, who powerfully headed home from a
dozen yards out to put a smile on the home supporters faces as now they had a two goal margin again. But the Wellington side had other ideas and were passing the ball around well and indeed pulled a second goal back with 5 minutes left when we conceded a penalty which was duly dispatched by Ian Bellinger low-down to Adams right, and to near the post to give him any chance of making a save. Despite this second goal which raised the visitors heads for a second time the final whistle sounded with us collecting all three points from our first league game of the season played in front of a reasonable crowd of 122 which was 59 less than the previous game in the FA Cup against Bodmin town, but nevertheless still a good crowd for a midweek fixture. Last Saturday we travelled on one of our longer journeys away to Chipping Sodbury where the previous season we had drawn the fixture 2/2, in a game I thought we should have won as we were the better side on the day but gave away two silly goals and paid the price, that was our first ever visit to the Ridings Ground. The journey to Chipping Sodbury was a long one. Taking us almost 3 hours after several hold-ups on the motorway. When we arrived we noticed that the team had travelled with just the bare bones with three youngsters Jamie Down/Mitchell McCann and Kingsley Burrows on the bench and the gaffer himself Ellis Laight playing as a centre back, but despite this setback we
played some really attractive football and penned the hosts back in their own last third for long periods of time but despite this prolonged pressure we couldn’t find a goal, and were to pay the penalty in the 16th minute when Chipping Sodbury took the lead through Daniel Clement. Despite this setback we were soon on the on the attack again and looking by far the better footballing side. But sods law struck and we were to go two down in the 22nd minute when Justin Bishop scored after a quick breakaway. 7 minutes later however we pulled a goal back when Charlie Johasen scored a well taken goal . Our flowing football looked rather attractive and even the locals were saying they couldn’t understand how we were behind when we scored a second goal before the half-time break, Richard Groves tucking away a penalty after Nick Rudge had been fouled in the area. We all enjoyed a nice cup of tea during the break, and in no time at all the teams were back on the field or at least that’s how it felt. The pattern of the first half continued with us playing some really nice flowing football, considering the team had to pick itself for this game, and we were to move into the lead for the first time during the match when Chris Wright got his first league goal of season since his return. Unfortunately for me I missed it as I was in the clubhouse at the time, but heard it was a bit special.
The home side were not going to give up though and once again put the match all square at three each when Stephen Fitzpatrick slotted the ball home. We were to be rewarded for all our efforts when Jared Lewington headed powerfully home from a cross sent in from the left by Lloyd Gardner, to nudge us in front again, and despite both sides putting in a frantic finish this is the way it stayed and we collected a another three points from a well contested 90 minutes. Before finishing this report I must say what a really nice bunch of people they are on the committee at Chipping Sodbury. They always make us feel welcome and look after us throughout the afternoon. At the end of this current season there will possibly be two or maybe even three teams promoted into the Southern league South and West division, so a good finishing position is a must this time around If we are to achieve our ambitions of going further up the pyramid system. Of course only the teams with the required ground grade standard will be able to take promotion. As far as we know those teams are currently Melksham Town, Buckland Athletic, Street, Bridgwater, Brislington and Clevedon Town which is six teams. Of course I don’t know if any other teams will have qualified during this closed season but I don’t think it would be many if any at all. Roy Homer Holmes - Club Chairman

Manager’s Say
Liam Head - Captain
Good evening all, and welcome to all from Shepton Mallet for tonight’s Toolstatation league fixture. Saturday’s fixture at Chipping Sodbury was full of goals, and was probably a great game for the neutral. With 5 regulars missing from our squad we traveled with a few players playing out of position which meant our organisation was off at times, but going forward we were very effective creating multiple chances and eventually winning by a deserved margin of 4-3 with the lads showing a great desire to win. At the moment with several players missing each week we are shuffling the team about and still learning our duties on the pitch, but in parts of our previous games we are showing signs of a good side so if we can cut out the errors in which we are getting punished for at the moment, we won’t be far off where we need to be at the end of the season. Tonight will once again be a tough game, Shepton have always got players that can play good football and work well so we will have to be at our best to get a result. Enjoy the game Ellis
After the recent disappointing FA cup game against Bodmin Town which we believed we deserved more from we have begun our league campaign with 2 straignt wins. The team is back playing very attractive attacking football. We as a team however need to stop conceding silly goals. We need to start making teams work for them like we have to. Hopefully for tonights game against Shepton Mallet we will get the line sorted and be solid. We came back from 2-0 down on Saturday against Chipping Sodbury which shows great character, I believe this team never knows when it’s beaten. We were 3-0 down against Bodmin and came back to 3-2 but should have gone on to at least draw that game. This team is a solid hard working bunch of lads who will fight to try get this club to the next level. I hope tonight we can put on a performance that everyone is happy with. Liam

Shepton Mallet Shepton Mallet Town FC originated from the amalgamation of three local teams in 1933, and they won the Somerset Senior League Premier Division title in 1949,1959,1974 and 1975, as well as lifting the Somerset Senior Cup in 1950 and 1965.
and achieved another decent finish in 9th spot. A dip in fortune then followed, the club invariably finishing near the bottom of the table and flirting with relegation more than once, as managers Shane Smith, Malcolm Beck and Mark(Dusty)Ford followed.
Manager Richard Fox took the club into the Western League in 1976, finishing runners up in their first season and gaining promotion to the Premier Division.
Ex Castle Cary manager Kevan Davis then gave the club some stability and higher placed finishes with four seasons in charge up to 2009, before another regular turnover in the following three seasons saw Keith Brown, Chris Mountford, Glynn Shaw and Benji Tricker come and go.
Relegated two seasons later, ex. Bristol City player Bryan Drysdale regained promotion for the side in season 1981-2 when they won the 1st Division title, but four years later at the end of season 19856 the original club folded and dropped out of the Western League. A new club called Shepton Mallet AFC was formed for season 1987-8 starting back in the County league in division 2, and reaching the Premier division three seasons later after two promotions. Manager Alan O’Leary brought them their only success in the 1990s, winning the Somerset Senior Cup in 1997-8 after a thrilling final against local rivals Radstock Town. Then after a 15 year absence, manager Roger Smith took the side back into the Western League after winning the Somerset Premier League title in season 2000-01. A respectable 7th placed finish followed, as did Smith’s resignation early the following season, before former players Gary Banfield and his assistant Jason Neale took over
The inspired appointment of ex Paulton Rovers manager Andy Jones in 2012 gave the club four seasons of success, with promotion in 2nd spot in 2013-14, the club’s highest ever Premier Division finish the following season and another top ten finish last season, as well as securing the signatures of several former Bristol City players each season. Andy and his assistant Ben Cleverley stood down at the end of last season, and coach Rob Cousins stepped up into the hot seat. After an encouraging start to this last season’s campaign, a run of defeats saw Rob leave in September, with club captain Craig Loxton stepping up to take temporary charge for the rest of the season, a creditable 12th place was achieved. With this in mind the club decided to reward Craig with the full time joint Manager position, along with ex player Jon Burr for this coming season.

Hi Everyone and welcome to this evenings Toolstation Western Premier league fixture against our Somerset neighbours Shepton Mallet. I hope that you have had a good journey down this evening and will join us in the clubhouse for a drink after the game. I must start my column by issuing a big thank you to Roger Mann from Wotton Printers for helping out with tonight’s programme. Unfortunately Paul Hardingham is indisposed for a short while so Wottons, who normally print our match day programmes, have very kindly agreed to help us out with producing it as well. Apologies if there is some normal content missing but we have tried to get as much of the normal content included for you. Thank you Roger, fantastic work. I would also like to thank all those kind people who sponsor a player or a member of the back room staff. We have added another to the list this week, Harrison & Jenson Montandon, son’s of former Bucks favourite Neil, have kindly agreed to sponsor our young goalkeeper Adam Seedhouse Evans. Midweek League Action: Melksham Town made a great start in the first Premier Division clash of the season, defeating Cadbury Heath 4-0 at the Oakfield Stadium. Gary Higdon opened the scoring from the spot midway through the first half, slotting home after Jake Brown had been brought down in the opposition’s box. The hosts then put the result beyond doubt with a quick-fire double at the beginning of the second-half thanks to Warren Maidment and Luke Ballinger, with Dan Demkiv adding gloss to the result late on. On Tuesday, a 35th minute goal from Mark Wall handed Bradford Town a 1-0 win over Brislington, and at Shellards Road, three secondhalf goals from Jake Thomas, Justin Bishop and Daniel Clement saw Chipping Sodbury Town defeat Longwell Green Sports 3-0. Buckland Athletic were another side to get their league campaign up and running with a victory, defeating last year’s First Division champions Wellington 3-2. Two early goals from Richard Groves gave Buckland the perfect start, but Wellington fought back and grabbed a foothold in the game with Jack Taylor reducing the arrears on the half-hour mark. Cam Kelly then headed home to restore Buckland’s two goal advantage, with Ian Bellinger adding a late consolation for the visitors. Elsewhere, Odd Down put in a fine performance to defeat Wells City 3-0, with Jon Sage adding to goals in either half from Asa White. On Wednesday, Bridgwater Town laid down a marker in their first league game of the season, recording a 2-1 win away at Willand Rovers. The home side took the lead in the 20th minute through Brett Worbey from the spot, but two goals just before half -time from Josh White and former Cheddar hitman Callum Ham were enough for Bridgwater to complete the comeback win. In the First Division, goals from Lewis Coleman, Malick Jammeh and Charlie Babb fired Welton Rovers to a 3-0 win over Almondsbury, while there was a rare goalless draw between Chippenham Park and Devizes Town at Hardenhuish Park. The following evening, Radstock Town made it two wins from two with a thumping 4-0 win away at Bishops Lydeard thanks to goals from Josh Howe, Tom Stocks, Josh Witcombe and Matt Minnis. There was also an away win for Wincanton Town over Chard Town, with Marcus Cook banging in a hat-trick during their 3-1 win. Another man to score a treble on Wednesday evening was Oli Trevarthen, during Odland

Abbotonians 7-0 drubbing of Corsham Town. Trevarthen scored twice in the first half, and once after the break, with Josh Williams as well as substitutes Matt Ellery (x2) and Joe Walters also getting on the scoresheet during the one-sided encounter. In the fixture at Meadow Lane, Westbury United were two goals ahead thanks to goals from Dan Kovacs and Jamie Jordan, but had to settle for a point after Malmesbury Victoria battled back to gain a 2-2 draw. FA Cup Replays: There were a pair of away wins in the two FA Cup replays on Tuesday evening, with Ollie Barnes’ 111th minute penalty edging Clevedon Town past Bitton, while Josh Wadham, David O’Hare, Steve Murray and Craig Herrod were on the scoresheet as Street defeated Hallen 4-1. Bridport were victors in their replay on Wednesday night, with a 37th minute strike from Ed Butcher helping them to a 1-0 win over St Austell in front of a bumper crowd at St Mary’s Field. Premier Division: Street made a winning start to their league campaign, with their forward line firing on all cylinders in a 4-0 win over Longwell Green Sports. After the home side had gone ahead in the third minute through David O’Hare, they added a second just before the half-hour mark when Steve Murray converted a penalty after he had been felled in the box. The result was put beyond doubt just before the break with Harry Foster scoring a third, before the same man wrapped up the victory with his second after half time. Bradford Town were another side to enjoy a big win, with three different goalscorers finding the net in their 3-0 triumph over Wellington. A long range effort from Will Haliston was the difference between the sides in the firsthalf, with his 20th minute strike breaking the deadlock for the hosts. Martin Lenihan then crossed for Anthony Conradi to make it 2-0 with his head, before Dan Cottle added a third in the closing stages. Bridport’s first league fixture of the season ended in victory for the Dorset side, with Richard Hedbitch and Leighton Thomas both impressing and scoring braces in a 4-1 win away at Cadbury Heath. At the Hand Stadium, Clevedon Town and Bitton were forced to share the points following a 1-1 draw. Former Weston-Super-Mare marksman Kane Ingram fired Clevedon into an 11th minute lead, but

Bitton fought back with Tom Knighton knocking in a second-half leveller. At Silver Street, Odd Down came from two goals down to salvage a 2-2 draw away at Willand Rovers. Brett Worbey’s penalty was followed by a Luke Mortimore strike to put Willand 2-0 up at the break, but they were unable to hang on with Kye Simpson scoring twice after the break to maintain Odd Down’s unbeaten start to the campaign. Melksham Town fought back from an early deficit to win 3-1 at last season’s strugglers Hallen. Tyler Davis took just ten minutes to break the deadlock for the home side before Melksham began to gain the ascendancy with a double from Gary Higdon and a Luke Ballinger strike handing Darren Perrin’s side all three points. Buckland Athletic’s entertaining start to the season continued, with goals from Charlie Johansen, Richard Groves, Jared Lewington and Chris Wright edging them to a 4-3 win over Chipping Sodbury Town, while Charlie Aldom scored the only goal of the game in Cribbs 1-0 victory away at Shepton Mallet. Wells City survived an early sending off and a two-goal deficit to draw 2-2 with Hengrove Athletic. The visitors found themselves two-up inside half an hour thanks to goals from James Boyle and Jack Fillingham, and their job seemed ever easier once Paul Comley was dismissed for a poor challenge. However, Wells fought back, and after substitute Darren Maynard had cut the deficit in half, Louis Hadgi popped up to grab a deserved equaliser. Brislington bounced back from defeat in midweek to beat Bridgwater Town with goals in either half from Chris Gardener and Danny Hunt. First Division: Westbury United’s promising start to the season continued, with a 2-0 win over Radstock Town helping them to reach the summit of the table at this very early stage. Jamie Jordan was the star for Westbury on his 50th appearance for the club, laying on an assist for Ricky Hulbert’s 16th minute opener, before he added some gloss to the scoreline by adding a goal of his own late in the piece. At Weymouth Street, Warminster Town’s perfect start continued, with Jack Miluk and Lewis Graham each scoring doubles in their 4-0 win over Malmesbury Victoria. In the game of the day, Bristol Telephones defeated Calne Town 3-2 despite going behind on two occasions. Goals from Stuart Windsor and Billy Gleed saw Calne take one goal

leads, but they were clawed back twice by Lee Pitman and James Batch, before Dhani Golding scored the winner with his third of the fledgling season. Chippenham Park kept their third clean sheet of the season, meaning Garry Lock’s single goal gave them a 1-0 win over Ashton & Backwell United, while there was a disappointing 0-0 draw between Portishead Town and Chard Town. Goals from Josh Williams and Josh Southway helped Oldland Abbotonians claim a 2-1 win over Cheddar as they moved up to third in the table, while Matt Morley scored the only goal of the game in Wincanton Town’s 1-0 victory over Almondsbury. There was a big away at Cothelstone Road, where Keynsham Town powered to a 4-0 triumph over Bishops Lydeard. Matt Long gave the K’s the lead in the 15th minute with a strong finish, before the prolific Matt Brown doubled their lead from outside the box ten minutes after the break. Keynsham then waited till late on before adding more goals, with Samuel Duggan and Craig Wilson each slotting home in the final five minutes. Roman Glass St George handed Corsham Town their third defeat of the season, after winning 3-1 at Oaklands Park. Drew Hamilton-Dunn tapped in for the opener, before Corsham hit back with Liam Fulham equalising from close range. Hamilton-Dunn doubled his tally before leaving the field injured, with Sam Wentland fired home a third for the Saints. The fixture at Nursteed Road ended all square with Harry Vandervell scoring the equaliser for Sherborne Town in their 1-1 draw away at Devizes Town for whom Tom Slater had given an early lead. Bishop Sutton and Welton Rovers also shared the points after drawing 2-2 at Lakeview. Mason Dagger had put the home side ahead in the 22nd minute, before Charlie Babb drew Welton level from a well-worked set-piece. Jaiden Savery then fired Rovers ahead, but they couldn’t hold on and as the home side pushed for a leveller they managed to force one home two minutes from time.

Colchester United v Walsall 20th of April 1968 Today we take another trip into the darkened distant past travelling down Memory Lane together to the 1967/68 season when we take a look at a Colchester United programme who at that time were playing in the third division. Today’s programme is put between Colchester and Walsall and took place on Saturday the 20th of April 1968. The front cover of this programme is in area size the same as our Buckland Athletic one today but this edition has only 16 pages including both front and back covers. The front cover looks like it’s one used without much detail on for every game throughout this current season as there is no mention anywhere on the front cover of the date of the fixture and who the opposition are. The information given on the front cover is the price is sixpence in old money and also the telephone number of the Colchester United football club and also a lucky number for this programme which is 1522, also it displays the logo of Colchester United Page 2 is taken up with eight small adverts for local companies which include Noland and Perry builders, Mankin motors used car specialists, Michael J Lee hairdressers, Lawrence and Speller plumbing and heating specialists, Eves fruit and vegetable shop and Man’s Music Shop to mention some of them. Page 3 lists the fixture Colchester versus Walsall at the Layer road ground Colchester and also all of those concerned i.e. chairman/ vice-chairman/secretary club surgeon and the others that are necessary to run a professional football outfit in the proper manner with the bottom half of this page containing an advert for the Essex Telegraph Press Ltd.
Page 4 is strewn once again with adverts of various sizes for Kay and Lampton limited dish washer specialists, Hills Service Station and garage, Ken’s Cafe, Hartmann’s building contractors, Thomas Moy fuels Ltd, the Evergreen Service Station to mention most of them. Page 5 is called United Bulletin and welcomes Walsall to Layer Road this afternoon and mentions that last season’s meeting here between the two teams was watched by 4809 people but the result ended in the only goal going to the visitors Walsall. It also touches on future encounters and mentions that next Saturday the Colchester team will visit Brisbane Road to face Leyton Orient
Page 5 does a similar thing to this article and goes down memory lane and looks at a game on the nearest date to today’s date last season
when Colchester drew one each at Brighton. 10 years ago when Colchester were beaten 3/2 by Southampton, and 16 years ago when Colchester lost five nil away at the Bournemouth and gives a little report on each of the three games to remind people of what took place. Page 7 is entitled terrace topics and looks at what the spectators think about what’s going on the club and also gives some tittle tattle on various rumours and other interesting bits and pieces about Colchester United Football Club. Pages 8/9 are the centre pages and contain the two team line-ups for the encounter listed in the old-fashioned way of goalkeeper/full backs/half backs/forwards also on this page we are once again blasted with 10 small adverts all around the outside perimeter of these two pages with the Pandora restaurant, Jackson’s travel centre, the Red Rose Chinese restaurant, Harpers sports shop, Leslie Forbes driving school and many others. Page 10 and have of page 11 are devoted to welcoming today’s visitors Walsall football club and has a nice sized pen picture of each of their 17 players with the top half of page 11 carrying a black-and-white photograph of the Walsall team. The bottom half of this page contains once again adverts four in total GW Osborne and Sons coach travel, Molly’s Cafe, RE Davies photography shop and Colchester Wimpy bar Pages 12/13 are what we call the stat pages with page 12 listing all the fixtures for this season for both the Colchester first-team and reserves with the results of each fixture played so far entered in the appropriate place. The top half of page 13 lists the appearances and goalscorers for the club at both first team and reserve team level, but we don’t escape adverts as there are two in the bottom half under the appearances the first four the Barn Restaurant and the other one for either winning B H Swincoe Electrical Services.
Page 14 has the A-Z half-time scoreboard in the top half where I notice the letter Z sees Watford entertaining Torquay United. The bottom half of this page is again two adverts one for JJ Bland turf accountants and the other one for the Silver Plaice fish and chip restaurant. Page 15 the inside back cover is once again divided into four quarter page adverts the first one for W Gray and company painters and decorators the second forward J D Hunt agricultural engineers, next Wheelers scrap metal merchants and finally AJ Tyres Ltd. Page 16 the outside back cover once again has four adverts on it firstly for The Oak public house, then W Allen and son butchers next PM Thompson hairstylist and finally Brian Hythe School of motoring. This programme like many lower league clubs is crammed full with adverts mostly from the local area which obviously generates some revenue to help the club’s solvency. The two teams for today were Colchester keeper Ernie Adams:2 Duncan Forbes:3 Dennis Mochan:4 Derek Trevis:5 Mick Loughton:6 Bobby Blackwood:7 Terry Price:8 Tom McKeany:9 Peter Barlow:10 Jim Oliver:11 Brian Hall:12 Roger Jocelyn. The Walsall team keeper Bob Wesson:2 Frank Greg:3 Roy Cross:4 Alec Jackson:5 Roger Jones:6 Colin Harrison:7 Allan Watson:8 Trevor Meath:9 Geoff Morris:10 Jim Murray:11 Ken Satchwell:12 Harry Middleton. The game ended all square 2/2 and was played in front of 2764 spectators. At the end of this current season the champions of Division III were Oxford United with 57 points from 46 games second also promoted Bury 56 points Colchester were relegated finishing in 22nd position with 33 points and Walsall finished in seventh with 50 points. Well that’s it for this time will do it all again soon. Cheers for now, Roy.

Buckland Athletic - A Club History The club was formed in 1977 purely as a junior club. We started life in the Torbay Pioneer League and Sandringham Park was our home pitch. As a junior club it was the biggest in the area, running a total of six sides in six different age groups for several seasons. We won many titles over the years including the Devon Youth Cup. In the season of 1987-88 we were accepted into the Devon and Exeter League and started our senior football life in Senior Division Three playing home games at Coach Road with Roy Holmes still in charge. In our first season we won the Championship and were promoted into Senior Two in 1988-89. Well in the 1989-90 season we gained promotion once more into Senior One these two promotions were gained with a very youthful side. In 1990-91 we were on the move again this time to Decoy and this season saw us win the Wheaton Trophy. We finally achieved our dream of being promoted to the Premier Division in 1992-93, having now moved to our old ground at Homers Lane and the club hasn't looked back since that move took place. In 1994-95 season saw Roy Holmes step down as first team manager and Nigel Holmes and Roger Madge took the job on. This was the season we won our first Premier Division Championship, a crowning glory to our The club was formed in 1977 purely as a junior club. In 1994-95 season saw Roy Holmes step down as first team manager and Nigel Holmes and Roger Madge took the job on. This was the season we won our first Premier Division Championship, a crowning glory to our runners-up in the league, we also picked up the Sportsmanship Cup and Programme Award. 2001-2002 was great season for the club as the

Reserves went through the season undefeated in the Devon and Exeter Senior Division Two and were promoted to Senior One. The first team ended the season in sixth place in the league table and were beaten finalists in the Throgmorton Cup. 2002-2003 was another successful season in the life of Buckland, the Reserves won the Devon FA Senior Cup at Coach Road, beating Princess Yachts International 3-0. They were also promoted to the Premier Division of the Devon and Exeter League after finishing in third place, that was only decided on their last game of the season when the top three sides were all in with a chance of securing the title. The First team finished up third in the table which at the start of the season was, as many supporters said beyond them but the managers got good players in at the right times through the season. We also won the Devon League programme award and finished 29th out of a total of 1100 non league programme in the renowned Wirral awards. 2003-2004 was a new era in the club’s history, a third senior side was established and went on to win The South Devon League Division Seven Championship with ease. The First team finished in eighth place, with Gary Taylor stepping down from his assistant manager position, their lowest position since joining the Devon League. The Reserves finished in fourth spot in The Devon and Exeter Premier Division, Manager Simon Glanfield stood down as manager. The programme finished first in the Devon League section of the Wirral programme awards and 11th out of 1100 non-league programmes. 2004-05 we did better than the previous season by finishing in 7 th place. Throughout this season the new ground was being worked on by a loyal band of club people. In the final year of the Wirral programme awards we finished in our highest position of sixth out of 1100, winners were Exeter City. For the 2005-06 season we started life playing our games at our new permanent home, Homers Heath on the Kingskerswell Road. The move went very well, and the ground was opened on Saturday 13th July when an estimated 300 + people turned out to see Steve Perryman cut the ribbon to open the pitch. Plymouth Argyle bringing a team up on Wednesday 13th July followed this up. And Argyle Chairman Mr Stapleton officially opened the clubhouse. Paul Feasby and Andy Paddon were in charge of the First team and we finished in our lowest league position of 13th. In the 2006-07 season all the talk was about the re-structuring of the Devon League and South Western League. One League with three Divisions was being formed called the South West Peninsula League. We managed to finish the season in 12th place under the leadership of Phil Bayliss and Gary Taylor and we had done just enough to meet our goal of qualifying for the SWPL

Buckland Athletic - A Club History Premier Division along side the topsides in both the South Western and Devon Leagues. The 2007-08 season was an extremely successful one for the club, the first team finished in 14th place in the new South West Peninsula League Premier Division. We won the SWPL Premier Division best ground award, which is voted by the other clubs visits to Homers Heath we also won the SWPL Programme award. The Reserves won the South Devon League Division 3 title, were runners-up in the prestigious Herald Cup, Devon Intermediate Cup Winners and Divisional Cup winners. The 3rd Team won the SDL Division 6 title, the Fred Hewings Cup and their Divisional Cup Final. In the 2008-09 season, the club enjoyed another successful season, the 1st team finished the season in 3rd place in the SWPL Premier Division, and for the second season running we won both the ground and programme award for the Premier division. The 2nd Team had a highly successful season, winning the South Devon League Division Two title and getting promoted to Division One, they also won the Devon Senior Cup with a 1-0 win over Lifton at Coach Road, this for the second time in the club's history. However, 2nd Team manager Ian Miller decided it was time to step down and concentrate on his now role as the clubs commercial agent having enjoyed huge success with the 2nd Team. The 3rd Team finished in second placed in the SDL Division Five and gained promotion to Division Four. Our Under 14 side also were very successful, winning their league title and league cup and winning the Devon FA County Cup at Coach Road with a fine 41 win over Plymouth Kolts. Buckland had a phenomenal season in 2009-10, the 1st team did the double, winning the SWPL Premier Division title and the Throgmorton Cup pipping Bodmin Town to both, in what was manager Phil Bayliss’ last season in charge. They lost just three times in the league and were unbeaten in all their 19 home games. We also played in the famous FA Cup competition for the first time in the club’s history. They actually won the league on goal difference from Bodmin Town and they also beat them 2-1 after extra time in the Throgmorton Cup final played at Cullompton’s Speed Meadow. This was a wonderful way for Phil to hand over control to new manager Steve Massey for the 2010-11 season. The 2nd Team had a very successful season once again, this time they won the SDL Division One league title and they retained the Devon Senior Cup Final beating Elburton Villa Reserves at Coach Road 3-1. Again the 2nd Team manager Jim Barrett also decided to resign at the end of the season and Adam Castle will now be in charge of their new quest in the SDL Premier Division. The 3rd Team won the SDL
wottonprinters.co.uk
Division Four league title, and they will be managed again this coming season by Scott Chisholm, who has guided them to many successes over number years. The success kept coming in the 2010-11 season, the 1st Team retained the SWPL Premier Division title, by an eight point margin, they also became the lowest ranked club to win the Devon St Lukes Bowl when they defeated Tiverton Town on penalties in that final. The 2nd Team finished in 3rd place in their first season in the SDL Premier Division, and they did win the George Belli Cup, defeating Totnes & Dartington 2nds 4-2. The 3rd team also finished in 3rd place in SDL Division 3, are they achieved promotion. They also won the Fred Hewings Cup for the second time, when they defeated WBB 2nds 1-0. The Junior side of the club continues to grow, but we have lost both Under 16 sides, but a lot of those players ware now signing senior forms for club, so hopefully we will find a number of young stars for all three senior sides. The 2011-12 season was another significant one in the history of Buckland Athletic. Although the 1st team relinquished their grip on the SWPL Premier Division title, beaten into second place by a very good Bodmin Town side, we had done enough to secure promotion to the Toolstation Western League Premier Division at Step 5. We were also beaten finalists in the Throgmorton Cup, again losing out to Bodmin Town, but we did retain the prestigious Devon St Lukes Bowl, again we played Tiverton town (Step 4) in the final, this time at the Heath, but this season we ran out worthy winners in 90 minutes, 4-0. The 2nd Team finished as runners-up in the SDL Premier Division, but they did win the Herald Cup for the first time in the clubs history, beating Watcombe Wanderers in that final 3-2 after extra time. They also made it through to the semifinals of the Devon Premier Cup, beaten by eventual winners and SWPL Division One East winners Liverton United. The 3rd Team didn’t win any silverware this season, but they had a great season, finishing in fourth place in the SDL Division Two table, and were beaten finalists in the Lidstone Cup. But the most pleasing part for the 3rds were the amount of the previous seasons Under 16s side made it into the side throughout the season. Manager Scott Chisholm has now decided to stand down as 3rd Team manager, he has been in charge of them since the teams formation in 2003, and had won promotion every season, until this one. Scott will be missed but he will remain involved with the club off the field, with former 1st team stalwarts Neil Montandon and Ben Williamson taking on the manager role with help from Nigel Holmes for the 2012-13 season. Antony Lynch will again lead the 1st Team, alongside his assistant Tom Kelly, but we have lost another stalwart for the new season, as assistant manager

Buckland Athletic - A Club History Jaimie Carwardine has now moved away from the area and has had to stand down, and again he will be sorely missed. Adam Castle will once again be in charge of the 2nd Team assisted by Paul Tucker, Simon Dungey and Steve Giles. The 1st Team’s first season in the Toolstation Western League ended in a tenth place finish, but the club did the Hospitality award and programme award in this first campaign. The 2nd Team won the South Devon League Premier Division title for the first time in its history, they also lost out in the finals of both the Devon Premier Cup and Herald Cup to Exmouth Town and Watcombe Wanderers respectively. The 3rd Team finished in third place in SDL Division Two, and were promoted to Division One, they also won the Fred Hewings Cup beating Totnes & Dartington 3rds. For the 2013-14, our highly successful 2nd Team manager, Adam Castle will now be in charge of the 1 st Team for its second season in the Western League Premier Division. There is a new man in charge of the 2nd Team, Simon Dungey will be the man to lead them in this campaign, while the 3rd Team will be once again lead by Neil Montandon. In his first season in charge of the 1st Team, Adam Castle led them to an 11th place finish in the Toolstation Western League Premier Division. The club retained the Premier Division Programme award. The 2nd Team finished in 4th place in the South Devon League Premier Division, and were beaten finalists in the Herald Cup, going down 3-1 to Watcombe Wanderers. The 2rd Team finished as runners-up to Dartmouth in the South Devon League Division One, but they retained the Fred Hewings Cup by beating Watcombe Wanderers 2nds 2-1, this was their third win of this trophy in the last four seasons. What another great season for the club was 2014-15, the 1st Team managed by Adam Castle finished as runners-up in the Western League Premier Division (Step Five), which was a great achievement, we also won the Premier Division programme award for the third consecutive season. The 2nd Team led by Neil Snell ended this season as Champions of the South Devon League Premier Division, and our 3rd Team managed by club stalwart Nigel Holmes also finished as champions, this time of the South Devon League Division One, and they also retained the Fred Hewings Cup winning it for the fifth time, they also introduced a few of our talented Under 16s players into senior football. Now onto the 2015-16 season, firstly there was substantial drainage work done to the playing surface during the summer, and we must thank Viridor Credits
wottonprinters.co.uk
for their help in funding these works. Onto the football, the 1st Team managed by Adam Castle finished in 4th Place in the Western League Premier Division, but not good enough to reach our goal of promotion. The 2nd Team managed again by Neil Snell retained the South Devon League Premier Division title, and were beaten finalists in the Herald Cup. Our 3rd Team finished the season in the South Devon League Division One as runners-up, in what was manager Nigel Holmes last season in charge. The club fielded it’s first Ladies team managed by Grant Fisher, in the Devon Women's League Division One, and they didn’t drop a point when winning the league title, and they then added the League Cup, in what was a fantastic season for them. Also during the season a lot of work was carried out at Homers Heath, including a new covered standing area, which incorporates two new turnstiles. The ground was fenced in, and an impressive outside toilet block was built. This work allowed the club to achieve a ‘D’ Ground Grade which is good enough for Southern League football. 2016-17 was another very good season for the club, the 1st Team finished in 4th place in the Western League Premier, and collected their best points tally since joining the league. The team also reached in the last eight of the FA Vase, going down 2-0 away against Bromsgrove Sporting, this means that it was very good season for new manager Ellis Laight. The club also won the Western League Hospitality Award and best programme award this season. The 2nd Team won their third consecutive South Devon League Premier Division title, under the leadership of Lee Chapman and Ben Robertson. Our 3rd Team under Phil Bearne and Paul Sharples finished as runners-up in the South Devon League Division One, and won their sixth Fred Hewings Cup trophy. Now on to our all conquering Ladies 1st Team who won the South West Women's League Western Division, dropping just two points over their unbeaten season. They also added the Soccerworld League Cup and the Devon FA Senior Cup to that success which saw them end this season as treble winners. Our Ladies 2nd Team finished mid-table in a very hard Devon Women's League Premier Division, and were beaten finalists in the Devon FA Supplementary Cup. There were also varies successes for our Junior sides, bot boys and girls. We now move onto the 2017-18 season, again the aim is for the 1st Team to gain promotion to the Southern League, which in turn would allow the 2nd Team if they finished in a promotion position to move up to the South West Peninsula League. The 1st Team will again be managed by Ellis Laight, and have kept all but one of last season squad. The 2nd Team will be

Buckland Athletic - A Club History & Honours led by Lee Chapman with the 3rd Team having Nigel Holmes in charge. The Ladies1st and 2nd Teams keep their management structure for this coming season, with the 1st Team now in the SWWL Premier Division and the 2nd Team in Devon Women's League Premier Division. There will also be more junior sides added in both boys and girls teams,. The club continues to grow, and with everyone pulling in the right direction, which includes our fantastic loyal sponsors, and supporters he sky is the limit to what we can achieve. The club continues to thrive both on and off the field of the play and this is due to the hard working ethics of all the volunteers within the club.
