Homers Lines Hello everyone and welcome once again along to Homers Heath for yet another home fixture in the Toolstation Western League Premier Division. This will be our tenth league game of the season, of which in the event of this uneven balance means we have played seven times at home and only three times away so far this term. Today should also be yet another tough encounter with the visitors this afternoon to Homers Heath being Bradford Town who like ourselves are unbeaten in the league so far this season, winning four and drawing four of their eight games played to date. Last season in the two encounters between the sides the home game here at Homers Heath ended all square two apiece with Lloyd Gardner scoring both our goals. In the away fixture towards the end of the season we won at the Bradford Town Sports Ground by the odd goal in three, our marksmen on this occasion where Simon Revell and Richard Groves. At this point I would like to offer a big warm Buckland style welcome to the players, management team, club officials and any travelling spectators that have made the journey down to Devon this afternoon to support their team. We hope you all enjoy your afternoon with us and will join us in the clubhouse after the final whistle has sounded to enjoy a bite to eat and a pint or a soft drink if that's what you'd sooner have before making a safe journey back home. Unless today's game ends all square there will only be one team with an unbeaten record at the end of this ninety minutes, hopefully that will be us but who knows. The last First Team fixture here a week ago was also against an unbeaten team when we faced Clevedon Town another game that turned out to be an exciting ninety minutes of football. We started very well and fashioned our first attempt on goal after just five minutes when Lloyd Gardner cut in from the by-line into the penalty area and shot into the side netting. Our second good
wottonprinters.co.uk
attempt came in the 16th minute when good work by Gardner and Charlie Johansen set up Richard Groves, who shot wide from eight yards out. Just four minutes later we were reduced to ten men when a reckless challenge by Cameron Kelly on the edge of our penalty area saw him dismissed from the field of play. The resultant free-kick came to nothing luckily for us. The game ebbed and flowed with both teams making chances among the better of those chances fell to our lads, but just before the half-time whistle a diving full-length header by Liam Head prevented a goal bound shot from Isaac Reid entering the net to send the teams in goalless. Tactical changes were made by our gaffer Ellis Laight and these seemed to work as you would never have known we were a man short, such was the effort put in by all ten players throughout the second period. In the 51st minute, we were to take the lead deservedly so in my opinion when a perfect pass from returning old boy Ben Carter (who is at the moment on loan to us from his new club Tiverton Town) slid the ball perfectly into the feet of the ever active Jared Lewington who turned his marker and calmly planted the ball into the net, much to the delight of the majority of the 154 spectators. Just a tad over two minutes later we were all further elated as the same player completed almost a carbon copy finish, this time being set up by a pinpoint Johansen defence splitting pass to give him the opportunity. Just before the hour mark our keeper Kenny Griffiths pulled off a superb save from Clevedon's skipper, Callum Kingdon. But as time wore on, it was more difficult than ever spot we had only ten players on the pitch, and we looked by far the more likely of the two teams to add to their tally. Although Clevedon used all three substitutes and huffed and puffed a bit towards the end of the game they never really troubled our defence, who were all outstanding as were all the other players in the yellow shirts. These three points were won by sheer determination and a will to win a game when the odds are against you, a superb performance that will live in the memory for some time. Three days later we travelled to Tiverton Town of the Southern League Premier Division in the
clubwebsite.co.uk/bucklandathleticfc01
westwardgroup.co.uk
Homers Lines First Round of the Devon County St Luke's Bowl and came away with our tails between our legs after being beaten 8-0 by a very useful Tiverton team. Ellis had promised to give ninety minutes to some of the lads who haven't featured much this season because of various reasons, so the line-up looked a little different to the run-of-themill Western League fixtures with Adam Seedhouse, Cliff Walters, Jamie Down, Mitchell McCann and Matt Clenahan all being given ninety minutes. Although we started reasonably well we were a goal behind after thirteen minutes when Jordan Rogers scored. Eight minutes later we lost Walters through injury, which was rather ironic as he wanted to play in this game to test out his injury. Although we played some very neat passing football at times, we never really threatened the home defence and our best chance fell to Charlie Johansen, who fired over the bar from eight yards out. The half-time whistle sounded with the score one-nil to the hosts. During the half-time break the twenty-five or so travelling Buckland supporters took refreshments not realising what was about to happen in the second period, as the hosts scored at regular intervals another seven times with both Tom Bath and Rogers both scoring hat tricks with a solo from Ollie Knowles and Jamie Price. I really felt sorry for Adam in goal as he pulled off three or four excellent saves to keep the score down to the eight. But that's behind us now and we move on to the next fixture, although in my long association with this club I cannot remember being beaten by such a big score in adult football. Although I could be proved wrong if someone knows different. Also on the night in the same competition, Plymouth Argyle beat Barnstaple Town away 4-1 and Cullompton dispatched Torquay United on penalties after the game had finished all square and goalless at Speeds Meadow. Last Saturday afternoon our Second Team were to go down by the odd goal in five away at Kingsteignton Athletic (ironically the pitch they lifted the league championship on by winning their last season). My informant tells me it was a close game and could have gone either way, but put the defeat down to several very good chances
wottonprinters.co.uk
going begging. Our goal scorers at Kingsteignton were Stuart Sparkes and Matt Atkin. During the previous week the same lads had beaten Ivybridge Town at home on the Wednesday evening by 4-2. Despite having problems with the floodlights that evening we managed to get through the ninety minutes after our club electrician Mark Feasby sorted out the problems. The men on target in this one were Chris Srdinko with a hat-trick and Jordan Ewing. So at the time of writing this Homers Lines the Second Team are sitting in fifth position in the league table with six points from their three games so far. A defeat was also the result for the Third Team who lost at home (Forches Cross) to title favourites Harbertonford 3-1 with our goal coming from Lee Pike, once again my man at the game tells me, it was a good game but the visitors deserved the win. So we regroup and try again this Saturday when the Second Team will be playing away in the South Hams at Loddiswell, with the Third Team having a tough looking fixture away at Chudleigh Athletics’ First-Team. Also last week-end our Ladies First Team fixture away at Bishops Lydeard was called off, due to a waterlogged pitch, which still leaves them to play their first league fixture, which will be this Sunday, when they entertain league leaders Middlezoy who travel to Homers Heath with six points from their first two games. It was interesting to see that in the Ladies FA Cup the First Team have been drawn away to New Milton Town, that's where our First Team travelled a few seasons ago in the FA Vase, it's a fair old trip up near Bournemouth and Portsmouth, this game due to be played on the 8th October. I travelled with the Ladies Second Team away to Ilfracombe with Pete Middleweek for a League Cup semi-final fixture. It was a lovely afternoon sat outside the bar watching the game and having a couple of beers, watching our girls play some brilliant football at times. But we turned out to be far too strong for the hosts running out a very comfortable winners 10-0, with Katie Burtwell scoring five times and one each for Helena Ruffles, Chloe Driscoll, Katie Sawyer, Kelly
clubwebsite.co.uk/bucklandathleticfc01
westwardgroup.co.uk
Homers Lines Legge and Mel Woodmore. These girls are also at home tomorrow at Forches Cross in the final of this competition when they will entertain Feniton Town Ladies. This game I believe also kicks off at 2pm, so two fixtures of Ladies football this weekend, unfortunately, both are at home, so you have to choose between one or the other but that's life. This season the girls seem to be a much stronger unit than last term, and could well be up at the top challenging for the championship at the end of this season, if they all stick together and work hard at it. The whole squad has a nice atmosphere about it, with plenty of players to choose from it must be a hard decision for the managers to decide who plays each time.
Also last Sunday there was a game at Homers Heath for the Under 18 Youth Team in the Devon County Youth Cup saw them dispatch, Plymouth-based outfit Lakeside, winning the tie 3-1 with the goals coming from a brace for Owen Coldwell and a single from Joe Roche to give the lads a deserved win and a place in the next round. The draw has seen them receive a home fixture against a very good Exeter side Pinhoe Spartans, that due to be played here at Homers Heath on Sunday 8th October. Well, that is it now cheers. See you next time, Roy Homer Holmes – Club Chairman
JP’s Commercial Columns Good afternoon everyone and welcome to this afternoons Toolstation Western Premier league fixture against Bradford Town, who have made the journey down to be with us. I trust that the traffic was kind to you now that the ‘holiday season’ congestion has eased. I would like to welcome any officials and supporters who have made the journey and hope that you can join us in the clubhouse for a drink after the game. Some of you may have noticed the new Kitson Solicitors advertising sign at the entrance to the ground. Kitsons have been supporters of the club, ladies and men’s teams, for a while now and have recently extended their sponsorship to include the new roadside advertising at the maingate. It really is a great spot which gives maximum exposure to those that advertise there. If anyone would like to advertise at the entrance to the club please contact me at jpbafc@hotmail.com or call me on 07836 774048 and I will be happy to quote you a very

competitive price. There also will soon be two new advertisers with the club, Parkers Independent Family Funeral Directors are very kindly sponsoring the third team with a brand new playing strip and polo shirts and are also having a standard size pitch side board, whilst One Insurance Solutions, one of the ladies team sponsors, and are also having a pitch side board. Many thanks to Nick Parker from Parkers Independent Family Funeral Directors and also Vanessa Casey from One Insurance Solutions who have made this possible. Some of you may have noticed the new club Facebook page, well now we also have a brand new club website. Please go to www.bucklandathletic.com to see the new site. Expertly put together by Jamie Sinclair and his dedicated team at ‘Whats On’ magazine, it is still basically being built but there is already a fair amount of content, with loads more to come. Thank you Jamie, you are doing a fantastic job, keep up the good work. Attendances are up slightly this year, which I firmly believe is down to the extra advertising

JP’s Commercial Columns being done in and around the Newton Abbot area. Combined with our superb Twitter feed, we now also have a modern well presented Facebook page and superb Website. These things along with the big A4 size fixture lists which are circulated to over one hundred pubs and shops in the South Devon area every three months are certainly having a positive effect.
That’s about it for this week folks, our next home fixture will be next Saturday, 23rd September 2017, against Bradford Town who are also currently flying high. I unfortunately cannot make next week’s fixture, so if any of you have any queries or concerns please ask for Billy Holmes or Simon Dungey and I am sure they will be able to help you.
Finally a lot of credit must also go to Ellis and the lads for putting together a great run of results propelling the club to the top of the Toolstation Western Premier league. Well done guys, hopefully you will be able to keep the good run going with a positive result this afternoon.
Enjoy the game, and don’t forget….UP THE BUCKS…!! JP John Piller - Commercial Director
Buck’s Ed’s Say Hello and a very good afternoon to everyone attending our Toolstation Western League Premier fixture against Bradford Town, we hope that you all enjoy your time here at Homers Heath and make use of the facilities we have to offer before having a safe journey home. The 1st Team made it nine league games unbeaten last Saturday with 2-0 win against Clevedon Town, and it was impressive, especially with having to play for seventy minutes with ten men, against another unbeaten side. Jared Lewington netted another two goals in this game, which now means in his last forty-five league appearances he has scored thirty-six league goals, which is again an extremely good record, and he seems to get better and better. We have another three players in this squad that are nearing 100 1st Team appearances, Chris Wright (currently 98), Cameron Kelly (98), and Kenny Griffiths (96). Next up for the 1st Team after this game today will be an away game at Cribbs on the 30th September, and in four Premier Division meetings we have picked up six points, away we have won one, lost one, scoring seven, conceding two, gaining three points, last season 2016-17
wottonprinters.co.uk
we won there 6-0 on the 1st October, L Gardner with two, one a penalty, R Groves, G Hammon, D Griffiths and C Johansen all scoring. Then comes another away game on the 7th October at Bridgwater Town for a first competitive meeting between us. Then we are at home against Bridport (in that rearranged game), and in ten Premier games we have collected twenty points, at home we have won four, drawn one, scoring fourteen, conceding seven, gaining thirteen points, and in last season’s meeting here on the 26th November we ran out 3-1 winners, R Groves, J Lewington, and L Gardner all on target. Our 2nd Team suffered their first defeat in this league campaign last Saturday away at Kingsteignton Athletic 3-2, Matthew Atkin and Stewart Sparkes scoring the goals, and this was their first away league defeat in the last twenty-two Premier Division games stretching back to the 2015-16 season, and that is an impressive run at any level of football, and in a very competitive league. The other Premier results from last Saturday were Kingskeswell & Chelston 8-3 Loddiswell Athletic, Paignton Villa 3-1 Dartmouth, Upton Athletic 3-0 Ivybridge Town, Watcombe
clubwebsite.co.uk/bucklandathleticfc01
westwardgroup.co.uk
Buck’s Ed’s Say Wanderers 10-1 Roselands. Todays Premier fixtures are Ashburton vs Ivybridge Town 2nds, Brixham AFC 2nds vs Roselands, Kingsteignton Athletic vs Upton Athletic, Loddiswell Athletic vs Buckland Athletic 2nds, Paignton Villa vs Kingskerswell & Chelston and Waldon Athletic vs Dartmouth. So our 2nds are at Loddiswell and in last season’s meeting there it ended in a 4-0 win. The 3rd Team also suffered their first league defeat of this new campaign last Saturday when they were beaten at home by Harbertonford 3-1, L Pike scoring. There was only one other league game played that day, Salcombe Town 7-2 Watcombe Wanderers 2nds. Today the games in this division are Beesands Rovers vs Newton Spurs 2nds, Chudleigh Athletic vs Buckland Athletic 3rds, Harbertonford vs Salcombe Town, Paignton Saints vs Newton 66, Totnes & Dartington vs Ipplepen Athletic, and Watcombe Wanderers vs Stoke Gabriel 2nds. So the 3rds are away at Chudleigh and in last season’s league meeting there we won 4-2. Our Ladies 1st Team were without a game last Sunday, they were due to be away at Bishops Lydeard in a South West Women’s League Premier Division game, their first league game of the season but that game was called off on Sunday morning with a waterlogged pitch the reason. So they have still just played one game, that SSE Women’s FA Cup win against Exeter City, that took them into the 2nd Qualifying Round when they were due to have taken on Marine Academy Plymouth but they couldn’t raise a side for the game and it was awarded to our Ladies who progress to the 3rd Qualifying Round, and after the draw made this week our Ladies will be
travelling to New Milton Town (which the 1 st team have played there in the FA Vase a couple of seasons ago), and that will be played on Sunday 8th October, and that will replace the scheduled league game against local rivals Torquay United. Torquay United Ladies did get through their 2nd Qualifying Round at home against Bournemouth winning 1-0, and that game was actually played at Plainmoor instead of where they usually play at Bovey Tracey. There were two league games in the Premier Division last Sunday, Charlestown 2-1 AEK Boco and Middlezoy 2-1 Yeovil Town Intermediate. Tomorrow in the division there are six league games, AEK Boco vs Marine Academy Plymouth, Charlestown vs Keynsham Town Development, Downend Flyers WFC vs Torquay United, Ilminster Town vs Bishops Lydeard, and our Ladies get their league campaign started against Middlezoy at home, and they currently head the table with two wins from two games. Our Ladies Development side were involved in a semi-final of their Divisional league cup last Sunday away at Ilfracombe Town and they ran out 10-0 winners on the day an accomplished display, with the goals coming from , Burtwell with five, Ruffles, Legge, Driscoll, Woodmore and Sawyer. The final of that competition will be tomorrow at Forches Cross and they will be playing Feniton with a 2pm kick off. On Tuesday evening the 1st Team were away at Southern League Premier leaders Tiverton Town in the Devon St Lukes Bowl, and we were heavily beaten on the night 8-0. BUCK’S ED.
MATCH REPORT VS CLEVEDON TOWN WRITTEN BY Tony Merrett assisted by Eric Howe (Clevedon Town) Clevedon travelled to Newton Abbot to face top of the table Buckland Athletic and despite having a man advantage for 70 minutes they failed to combat the home sides desire and commitment and came away with a very disappointing 2-0 defeat.
wottonprinters.co.uk
The home side were quickly into their stride and won a free-kick on the right on 4 minutes. The ball was played to Lloyd Gardener who managed to get around Liam Dempsey and cut along the bye-line before shooting into the side netting.

MATCH REPORT VS CLEVEDON TOWN WRITTEN BY Tony Merrett assisted by Eric Howe (Clevedon Town) Liam Dempsey tried his luck in the 9th minute when he collected the ball on the left and cut inside before unleashing a shot that Buckland keeper Kenny Griffiths easily saved. A minute later and he played the ball through for Daine O’Connor who was beaten to the ball by the keeper who was quickly off his line. Buckland created a good opportunity on 15 minutes when a run down the left by Lloyd Gardener saw the ball crossed to Charlie Johansen at the far post who squared it back to Richard Groves but his shot from 8 yards went wide. The complexion of the game changed significantly on 20 minutes when the home side were reduced to 10 men. Sekani Simpson played the ball down the right for Isaac Reid to chase and as he was bearing down on goal Cameron Kelly came across and tripped the Clevedon man right on the edge of the box. After consulting his Assistant to confirm whether the infringement occurred inside or outside the box the Referee produced a straight red card for the home player and awarded Clevedon a free-kick on the edge of the box which Ollie Barnes took but could only hit straight into the wall. Even with 10 men the home side were still dangerous going forward and in the 25th minute Ben Carter crossed for Lloyd Gardener but he could only direct his header straight at Damien Freeman in the Clevedon goal. On 28 minutes Clevedon won a corner on the left which Danny Wring swung to the far post where skipper Ollie Barnes headed the ball back into the middle of the box for Clayton Fortune to smash the ball at goal but Kenny Griffiths produced an excellent reaction save. Clevedon put together a good move in the 36th minute when Sekani Simpson and Daine O’Connor exchanged passes down the right before Ryan Gissing laid the ball off for Isaac Reid on the edge of the box but his left-foot shot went high over the bar. On 40 minutes Ben Carter crossed for Jared Lewington to lay the ball off for Charlie Johansen to fire over the bar. The final action of the first half saw Liam Dempsey play the ball through for Isaac Reid whose shot looked to be heading into the corner of the
wottonprinters.co.uk
net but home skipper Liam Head dived to head the ball clear. Half Time: Buckland Athletic 0 Clevedon Town 0 Straight form the kick-off Clevedon went on the attack and the ball was played through for Isaac Reid whose shot was saved by Kenny Griffiths. Buckland took the lead on 51 minutes when Ben Carter’s ball split the visiting defence and found Jared Lewington in space who calmly took the ball around Damien Freeman and slotted the ball into the net to make the score 1-0. Clevedon clearly hadn’t learned any lessons from conceding the first goal and 3 minutes later the home side doubled their lead in exactly the same manner. This time Charlie Johansen played the defence splitting pass for Jared Lewington to place the ball past Damien Freeman and make the score 2-0. On 57 minutes an Ollie Barnes cross from the left was headed over the bar by Callum Kingdon and 5 minutes later the skipper tried his luck at goal with Kenny Griffiths pushing the ball away and Daine O’Connor narrowly missing out on collecting the rebound. By the 69th minute Clevedon had thrown on all 3 substitutes in an effort to change their fortunes and although the 3 youngsters provided fresh legs they were unable to affect the eventual outcome. A cross-field ball from Ollie Barnes in the 72nd minute found substitute Tyler Ashmead on the right who got past Nick Barker and put in a dangerous cross to Isaac Reid but he couldn’t control the ball and the chance was lost. Substitute Lucas Vowles out-muscled both Simon Laughton and Ben Carter on the left on 80 minutes and put in a dangerous cross that went across the face of the goal but unfortunately nobody in a blue and white shirt was on hand to apply the finishing touch. Despite the efforts of the visitors the home side were able to comfortably see out the remainder of the game to claim the 3 points and extend their lead at the top of the table. Full Time: Buckland Athletic 2 Clevedon Town 0 A very good and impartial report of the game from the Clevedon Town website.

The ground is after a mini roundabout and behind a stone wall on the right hand side. Twitter @BradfordTownFC HONOURS Western League Division One Winners 2013-14 Bradford Town Football Club History Bradford Town FC was formed by Les Stevens and his wife Pat in 1992. They started playing at St. Laurence School in Bradford on Avon, in the Wiltshire County League where the pitch had to be roped off before every home game, and the half time tea made in the boot of a car. In the 1993-94 season they gained promotion to the Wilts County Premier League. They then started to ground share with Trowbridge Town at the old Frome Road ground in Trowbridge until moving to their present ground in Bradford on Avon in 1996. They gained promotion to the Western League in the 2005-06 Season under the management team of Mark Hodkinson, Andy O’ Pray & Ted Miluk after finishing runners up in the Wilts County Premier League the previous season. In their first season they finished 10th but slipped to 17th & 13th in the following two years. For the 2008-09 Season we had a new management team of Paul Shanley and his assistant Mark Edwards – both ex players, who were team members when the club was formed, indeed
wottonprinters.co.uk
Paul was the first club captain. 2008-09 also saw the installation of the Club’s floodlights officially switched on by Steve Phillips of Bristol Rovers. We then had our best season to date finishing 3rd in the league after challenging for promotion. Season 2009-10 saw the installation of another stand complete with seating for 100. The team reached the second round proper of the FA Vase losing out to Wellington in a very close game. After a blip in mid season following the result of losing prolific goal scorer Matt Minis to Frome Town, the team got back on winning form and finished 4th in the league. 2010-11 Season saw the team finish 6th and 2011-12 Season finishing 5th in the league. Season 2012 -13 saw Paul Shanley added Ali Belcher to his management team. This season saw the management team guide the team to 3rd, where with fewer injuries and silly loses may have seen us in with a shout of promotion, which just eluded us. Early exits from both the FA Cup and the FA Vase were a disappointment and Paul hoped that we could improve on this for the season 2013-2014. The 2013-2014 Season saw the club focus on the first team, following the disbandment of the Reserve Team. This season saw the Town’s push for promotion succeed when they won the Division One league by a clear 13 points with our top goal scorer Sammy Jordan netting a total of 77 goals and winning the League’s Top Goal Scorer award. Manager Paul Shanley also picked up the Div.1 Manager of the Year award. The team were runners up in the Wilts Senior Cup losing out to Melksham Town on penalties after an exciting final at Chippenham Town’s ground in front of a 500+ crowd. The FA Cup was disappointing as we went out in the first game, and we didn’t fare much better in the Vase where we went out at the second stage. 2014-2015, our first season in the Premiership was a very good one for the most part. We

Our Visitors Today - Bradford Town progressed to the 3rd round of the early stages of the FA Cup. We were even more successful in the FA Vase where we got through 6 rounds before missing out on the quarter finals having been beaten by Highworth Town 2-1. We made it to the quarter finals of the Les Phillips Cup and once again ran out runners-up in the Wilts Senior Cup. Most of the season saw us in contention with the top three but we fell away badly at the end of the season. Injuries, suspensions and poor play saw us finish the season in 8th place. 2015-2016 saw us finish in 8th place once again in the league. We progressed to the 2nd Qualifying Round of the FA Cup getting knocked out by Chippenham Town in front of a crowd of nearly 400 & reaching the 4th round of the 8
FA Vase losing out to Hartley Wintney. After years at the helm Paul Shanley decided to step down as manager. 2016-2017 started with a new management team of Danny Greaves former assistant manager of Bristol Manor Farm, assisted by former fans favourite Aaron Wilson. The club also saw a new Chairman Mark Hodkinson & Vice Chairman Jon Phillips, both who have always had long standing connections with the club. Danny guided the side to their highest league position in the clubs history, finishing in 5th position. The club start the 2017-2018 season with the majority of last years players, alongside some new additions, including the return of goalscoring favourite Sam Jordan.

Buck’s Ed’s Look At Bradford Town Today we give a big warm Buckland welcome to our visitors Bradford Town for this Toolstation Western League Premier Division fixture this afternoon. We welcome their management team, players, club officials and of course their supporters that have made their second journey down to Devon this season. We hope they all enjoy their time here at Homers Heath and make use of the facilities that we have to offer and later on have a safe journey home. Have started their fourth season in the Premier Division, and this league campaign started away at Brislington and they won a tight game 1-0, M Wall scoring, and they picked up their second league win when they defeated new boys Wellington at home 3-0, A Conradi, D Cottle and W Hailstone all on target. It was a better in in their third win, away at strugglers Longwell Green Sports, winning this one 5-0, with five different scorers on the scoresheet, A Conradi, D Cottle, M Lenihan, N Loader and K Rendall. They were held to a 0-0 draw with Bitton, but were back to winning ways when they defeated Chipping Sodbury Town at home 2-1, D Cottle with both those goals. But they have now drawn their last three league games, starting with a 2-2 draw away at inform Shepton Mallet, Cottle and Hailstone, 1-1 at home against Odd Down (Bath), own goal getting them a point, and then last Saturday they were held to a 0-0 draw away at Wells City. So they arrive at the Heath in sixth place in the Western League Premier Division, but they are still unbeaten in eight league games, winning four, drawing four, scoring fourteen, conceding four, gaining sixteen points, although now they have drawn their last three games, and have drawn four of their last five games, the only win in that run was at home against Chipping Sodbury Town. They have attracted 389 spectators to their four home league games, at average of 97.25, with their highest attendance being 117 when they played Odd Down (Bath) on the 20th September, their lowest crowd was 66 when Wellington were the visitors on the 12th August. In the FA Cup Extra-Preliminary Round they were beaten at home by Odd Down (Bath) 4-3,

Cottle, Hailstone and Lenihan on target. In this seasons Les Phillips Cup Preliminary Round they were away at Division One side Calne Town and went through when they defeated them 4-2, S Jordan with a hat-trick and Conradi scoring. So after today’s game they will be at home against Bridgwater Town, for a first meeting between the two. Then comes an away game at Clevedon Town, and in four Premier Division meetings they have picked up eight points, away they have won two, scoring seven, conceding just one, gaining six points, and in last season’s corresponding game it ended in a 3-1 win. Then comes a home game against Cadbury Heath, and in six Premier meetings they have collected sixteen points, at home they have won two, drawn one, scoring nine, conceding four, gaining seven points, and again in last season’s meeting there it ended in a 1-1 draw. WILLAND ROVERS….have really made a great start to this league campaign and after Saturday’s 2-2 draw away at Melksham Town, in fact they were 2-0 up at half time, they are in second place in the Premier Division table having played nine games and picking up twenty points from those. goal. The home side then got back on level terms thanks to a goal early in the second-half from Richard Hebditch who slotted home following good work from Leighton Thomas. As is typical with the FA Cup, there was plenty of late drama, and after Simon McElroy looked to have booked Cadbury’s spot in the next round with a 91st minute goal, Bridport battled back in dramatic fashion with Braeden Symes heading home three minutes into stoppage time to set up Wednesday’s replay. Premier Division: Buckland Athletic continue to set the pace atop the table, after surviving an early dismissal in their 2-0 win at home to Clevedon Town. With Cameron Kelly sent from the field after only 20 minutes, the league leaders faced a tough afternoon which they managed to overcame thanks to a second half brace from Jared Lewington. There was also a 2-0 win for Shepton Mallet, with Tyson Pollard and George Carey scoring in either half of their victory over basement dwellers Longwell Green Sports. At Oakfields, Melksham Town fought back from a two-goal deficit to claim a share of the points in their 2-2 draw with Willand Rovers. The visitors took a fifth minute lead through James Blake, with the same man then doubling their advantage with his second of the afternoon just after the half -hour mark. Tyler Sibbick gave Melksham hope with his second goal in as many matches, before Dan Demkiv completed the comeback halfway through the second half. David O’Hare notched a hat-trick as Street’s 4-0 win away at Bitton. The marksman scored twice in the first-half, with the man who assisted both of those goals, Craig Herrod, firing home a third for Street just before the break. O’Hare then completed his hat-trick five minutes from time as Street registered their sixth league win of the campaign. First-half goals from Jack Parker and Liam Pullen fired Chipping Sodbury Town to a 2-0 win at home to Cribbs, while Aaron Anglin notched two goals in the opening 20 minutes as Hallen won 2-1 away at Odd Down for whom Kane Simpson scored during the second-half. There were also two goalless draws in the games involving Bridgwater Town and Hengrove Athletic, and also Wells City and Bradford Town. First Division: Bristol Telephones rebounded from last week’s defeat by claiming a 2-1 win at home to Devizes Town. The phones went ahead in the 24th minute through Ben Griffiths, and then doubled their advantage 15 minutes from time through Leon Britton before Jack Hopper scored a late consolation for the visitors. A hat-trick from Harrison Williams fired Portishead Town to their first win since the opening day, as they defeated Chippenham Park 3-2 for whom Darrin Moss and Alex Pring registered goals. Following a tough spell, Bishops Lydeard kept their first clean sheet of the season in a 6-0 triumph away at Calne Town. Callum Flaherty gave them the lead with a header, before Zac Ryder doubled their advantage with a long-range effort. The forward duo of James Quick and Luke Redrup then added brace’s as Lydeard completed a one-sided victory. Almondsbury ended their three-game losing streak with a 3-1 win away at Warminster Town, with Greg Parr scoring twice, before Harry Brock wrapped up the victory ten minutes before the final whistle. Wincanton Town secured their fifth win of the campaign, after goals from Matt Peters and Marcus Cook fired them to a 2-1 success at home to Malmesbury Victoria, while Roman Glass St George won 3-1 away at Radstock Town. Substitute Jason Bond scored the only goal of the game as Sherborne Town claimed a 1-0 win at home to Ashton & Backwell United. There was also a 1-0 victory for Corsham Town, with Jon Bazley scoring a screamer to help defeat Cheddar, while Oldland Abbotonians and Bishop Sutton ended goalless. Chard Town and Westbury United was abandoned in the 89th minute due to bad weather with Chard leading 4-2 at the time.

Down Memory Lane Today I have chosen a programme from an Arsenal game I saw many years ago when living in London not long after my marriage to Chris in 1966. The visit to my spare room was a short one this time as I saw very early on this Arsenal programme and decided this was the one I was going to reread for this memory Lane.
The programme is small in many ways, the overall area is nowhere near as big as our own club one and also it is only sixteen pages thick. The front cover tells us this match was played on Saturday 4th February with a 3pm kick-off in the Football League Division One, the price was 6d the only other bit of interest on the front cover is that Arsenal had won the FA Cup in 1930, 1936and 1950 and also had won the League Division One championship on seven occasions with those dates also listed. Inside the front cover on page 2 we have a list of all the directors
wottonprinters.co.uk
including chairman and secretary of Arsenal Football Club along with the manager who at this present time was Bertie Mee, the bottom half of this page is filled with the ‘Voice of Arsenal’, which mentions the Gunners had won their last two away matches at Blackpool and Bristol City, also it goes on to mention the upcoming FA Cup tie away at Bolton Wanderers and various other bits and pieces, which carries over onto the facing page and goes halfway down page 3. The bottom half of this page is taken up with statistics between Arsenal and Chelsea, it lists the results since the 1907-08 season in the league of which there have been 74 encounters to date of which Arsenal have won 30 and Chelsea 22 and 22 have been drawn. It also lists that the two teams have played each other on seven occasions in the FA Cup with Chelsea winning 4 and Arsenal 3. Pages 4 and 5 have black and white action shorts of the away win at Blackpool, which according to the captions is the best away win so far this season for Arsenal who won three-nil. Pages 6 and 7 follow the previous two with more black-and-white action shots from this time the Bristol City game and looking closely at these the pitches those days were very muddy and bumpy compared with present-day surfaces. Page 8 is devoted to lengthy pen pictures of the Chelsea team plus the substitute who was expected to be on view here this afternoon. Page 9 has the two team line-ups numbered from one to twelve with a space at twelve to enter the announced substitute. Page 10 is entitled ‘Arsenal Matters’ and deals with the team line-ups from last games played by each of the four Arsenal sides, the team that beat Blackpool 3-0 and then in the Football Combination the team that lost away at Swindon 3-1, next the Third Team in the Metropolitan League who lost away to Brentwood Town 2-0 and finally the South East Counties League side who lost at home to Queens Park Rangers 3-0, so apart from the First Team not a good weekend. Also on this page it gives the name of the winner of last week's quiz and let us know he has been sent four

Down Memory Lane complimentary tickets for today's game, also on the page are two or three footballing facts from the distant past. Page 11 has a full page black-and-white action shot of Gordon Nielsen the Arsenal player. Page 12 has more statistics, this time the appearances and goalscorers from the four different teams also on this page it tells us that Manchester United are due here on Friday 3rd March with a 7.30pm kick off and the reason that this match has been brought forward is because the following day the 4th it's the Football League Cup Final at Wembley. Page 13 has once again statistics with the league positions of each of Arsenal's four sides and after a quick look it appears that the only one of the sides doing well is the one playing in the Metropolitan Lleague who at the time of this programme are in pole position with 37 points from 23 starts. Page 14 has two or three quizzes, one of which if you win earns you to complimentary grandstand tickets also on the bottom of this page it reminds you to vote for your supporters player of the year this season. Inside the back cover we have the fixtures for this season and alongside each fixture the result of the games played so far. On the back cover we have the half-time scoreboard in which letters A to K are First Division fixtures with L, M, N being Second Division games and Crystal Palace versus Plymouth Argyle is the letter L. The Third Division has four matches featured. The bottom half of this back cover lists the up-and-coming matches at Highbury with an English Schools semi-final between Islington and Ealing on Tuesday 7th February, a Football Combination game against Crystal Palace on the 11th February and a Football Combination match against Peterborough United on the 18th February.
6 - Ian Ure, 7 - Gordon Nielsen, 8 - Colin Addison, 9 - George Graham, 10 - John Sammels, 11 - George Armstrong, with the substitute announced as David Court. At the end of the season the champions were Manchester United with 60 points from their 42 games, runners-up Nottingham Forest 56 points, third Tottenham 56 and fourth Leeds 55, Arsenal finished in seventh position with 46 points and Chelsea ninth with 44. The two teams relegated from Division One this season were Aston Villa with 29 points and Blackpool 21. The FA Cup was won by Tottenham Hotspur who beat Chelsea at Wembley 2-1, and the Football League Cup was won by Queens Park Rangers who beat West Bromwich Albion 3-2. Cheers Roy Homer Holmes.
The line-ups for today's encounter were: Arsenal: Goalkeeper - Jim Furnell, 2 - Peter Simpson, 3 Peter Storey, 4 - Frank McLintock, 5 - Terry Neill,

Buckland Athletic - A Club History The club was formed in 1977 purely as a junior club. We started life in the Torbay Pioneer League and Sandringham Park was our home pitch. As a junior club it was the biggest in the area, running a total of six sides in six different age groups for several seasons. We won many titles over the years including the Devon Youth Cup. In the season of 1987-88 we were accepted into the Devon and Exeter League and started our senior football life in Senior Division Three playing home games at Coach Road with Roy Holmes still in charge. In our first season we won the Championship and were promoted into Senior Two in 1988-89. Well in the 1989-90 season we gained promotion once more into Senior One these two promotions were gained with a very youthful side. In 1990-91 we were on the move again this time to Decoy and this season saw us win the Wheaton Trophy. We finally achieved our dream of being promoted to the Premier Division in 1992-93, having now moved to our old ground at Homers Lane and the club hasn't looked back since that move took place. In 1994-95 season saw Roy Holmes step down as first team manager and Nigel Holmes and Roger Madge took the job on. This was the season we won our first Premier Division Championship, a crowning glory to our runners-up in the league, we also picked up the Sportsmanship Cup and Programme Award. 2001-2002 was great season for the club as the

Reserves went through the season undefeated in the Devon and Exeter Senior Division Two and were promoted to Senior One. The first team ended the season in sixth place in the league table and were beaten finalists in the Throgmorton Cup. 2002-2003 was another successful season in the life of Buckland, the Reserves won the Devon FA Senior Cup at Coach Road, beating Princess Yachts International 3-0. They were also promoted to the Premier Division of the Devon and Exeter League after finishing in third place, that was only decided on their last game of the season when the top three sides were all in with a chance of securing the title. The First team finished up third in the table which at the start of the season was, as many supporters said beyond them but the managers got good players in at the right times through the season. We also won the Devon League programme award and finished 29th out of a total of 1100 non league programme in the renowned Wirral awards. 2003-2004 was a new era in the club’s history, a third senior side was established and went on to win The South Devon League Division Seven Championship with ease. The First team finished in eighth place, with Gary Taylor stepping down from his assistant manager position, their lowest position since joining the Devon League. The Reserves finished in fourth spot in The Devon and Exeter Premier Division, Manager Simon Glanfield stood down as manager. The programme finished first in the Devon League section of the Wirral programme awards and 11th out of 1100 non-league programmes. 2004-05 we did better than the previous season by finishing in 7 th place. Throughout this season the new ground was being worked on by a loyal band of club people. In the final year of the Wirral programme awards we finished in our highest position of sixth out of 1100, winners were Exeter City. For the 2005-06 season we started life playing our games at our new permanent home, Homers Heath on the Kingskerswell Road. The move went very well, and the ground was opened on Saturday 13th July when an estimated 300 + people turned out to see Steve Perryman cut the ribbon to open the pitch. Plymouth Argyle bringing a team up on Wednesday 13th July followed this up. And Argyle Chairman Mr Stapleton officially opened the clubhouse. Paul Feasby and Andy Paddon were in charge of the First team and we finished in our lowest league position of 13th. In the 2006-07 season all the talk was about the re-structuring of the Devon League and South Western League. One League with three Divisions was being formed called the South West Peninsula League. We managed to finish the season in 12th place under the leadership of Phil Bayliss and Gary Taylor and we had done just enough to meet our goal of qualifying for the SWPL

Buckland Athletic - A Club History Premier Division along side the topsides in both the South Western and Devon Leagues. The 2007-08 season was an extremely successful one for the club, the first team finished in 14th place in the new South West Peninsula League Premier Division. We won the SWPL Premier Division best ground award, which is voted by the other clubs visits to Homers Heath we also won the SWPL Programme award. The Reserves won the South Devon League Division 3 title, were runners-up in the prestigious Herald Cup, Devon Intermediate Cup Winners and Divisional Cup winners. The 3rd Team won the SDL Division 6 title, the Fred Hewings Cup and their Divisional Cup Final. In the 2008-09 season, the club enjoyed another successful season, the 1st team finished the season in 3rd place in the SWPL Premier Division, and for the second season running we won both the ground and programme award for the Premier division. The 2nd Team had a highly successful season, winning the South Devon League Division Two title and getting promoted to Division One, they also won the Devon Senior Cup with a 1-0 win over Lifton at Coach Road, this for the second time in the club's history. However, 2nd Team manager Ian Miller decided it was time to step down and concentrate on his now role as the clubs commercial agent having enjoyed huge success with the 2nd Team. The 3rd Team finished in second placed in the SDL Division Five and gained promotion to Division Four. Our Under 14 side also were very successful, winning their league title and league cup and winning the Devon FA County Cup at Coach Road with a fine 41 win over Plymouth Kolts. Buckland had a phenomenal season in 2009-10, the 1st team did the double, winning the SWPL Premier Division title and the Throgmorton Cup pipping Bodmin Town to both, in what was manager Phil Bayliss’ last season in charge. They lost just three times in the league and were unbeaten in all their 19 home games. We also played in the famous FA Cup competition for the first time in the club’s history. They actually won the league on goal difference from Bodmin Town and they also beat them 2-1 after extra time in the Throgmorton Cup final played at Cullompton’s Speed Meadow. This was a wonderful way for Phil to hand over control to new manager Steve Massey for the 2010-11 season. The 2nd Team had a very successful season once again, this time they won the SDL Division One league title and they retained the Devon Senior Cup Final beating Elburton Villa Reserves at Coach Road 3-1. Again the 2nd Team manager Jim Barrett also decided to resign at the end of the season and Adam Castle will now be in charge of their new quest in the SDL Premier Division. The 3rd Team won the SDL
wottonprinters.co.uk
Division Four league title, and they will be managed again this coming season by Scott Chisholm, who has guided them to many successes over number years. The success kept coming in the 2010-11 season, the 1st Team retained the SWPL Premier Division title, by an eight point margin, they also became the lowest ranked club to win the Devon St Lukes Bowl when they defeated Tiverton Town on penalties in that final. The 2nd Team finished in 3rd place in their first season in the SDL Premier Division, and they did win the George Belli Cup, defeating Totnes & Dartington 2nds 4-2. The 3rd team also finished in 3rd place in SDL Division 3, are they achieved promotion. They also won the Fred Hewings Cup for the second time, when they defeated WBB 2nds 1-0. The Junior side of the club continues to grow, but we have lost both Under 16 sides, but a lot of those players ware now signing senior forms for club, so hopefully we will find a number of young stars for all three senior sides. The 2011-12 season was another significant one in the history of Buckland Athletic. Although the 1 st team relinquished their grip on the SWPL Premier Division title, beaten into second place by a very good Bodmin Town side, we had done enough to secure promotion to the Toolstation Western League Premier Division at Step 5. We were also beaten finalists in the Throgmorton Cup, again losing out to Bodmin Town, but we did retain the prestigious Devon St Lukes Bowl, again we played Tiverton town (Step 4) in the final, this time at the Heath, but this season we ran out worthy winners in 90 minutes, 4-0. The 2nd Team finished as runners-up in the SDL Premier Division, but they did win the Herald Cup for the first time in the clubs history, beating Watcombe Wanderers in that final 3-2 after extra time. They also made it through to the semifinals of the Devon Premier Cup, beaten by eventual winners and SWPL Division One East winners Liverton United. The 3rd Team didn’t win any silverware this season, but they had a great season, finishing in fourth place in the SDL Division Two table, and were beaten finalists in the Lidstone Cup. But the most pleasing part for the 3rds were the amount of the previous seasons Under 16s side made it into the side throughout the season. Manager Scott Chisholm has now decided to stand down as 3rd Team manager, he has been in charge of them since the teams formation in 2003, and had won promotion every season, until this one. Scott will be missed but he will remain involved with the club off the field, with former 1st team stalwarts Neil Montandon and Ben Williamson taking on the manager role with help from Nigel Holmes for the 2012-13 season. Antony Lynch will again lead the 1st Team, alongside his assistant Tom Kelly, but we have lost another stalwart for the new season, as assistant manager

Buckland Athletic - A Club History Jaimie Carwardine has now moved away from the area and has had to stand down, and again he will be sorely missed. Adam Castle will once again be in charge of the 2nd Team assisted by Paul Tucker, Simon Dungey and Steve Giles. The 1st Team’s first season in the Toolstation Western League ended in a tenth place finish, but the club did the Hospitality award and programme award in this first campaign. The 2nd Team won the South Devon League Premier Division title for the first time in its history, they also lost out in the finals of both the Devon Premier Cup and Herald Cup to Exmouth Town and Watcombe Wanderers respectively. The 3rd Team finished in third place in SDL Division Two, and were promoted to Division One, they also won the Fred Hewings Cup beating Totnes & Dartington 3rds. For the 2013-14, our highly successful 2nd Team manager, Adam Castle will now be in charge of the 1 st Team for its second season in the Western League Premier Division. There is a new man in charge of the 2nd Team, Simon Dungey will be the man to lead them in this campaign, while the 3rd Team will be once again lead by Neil Montandon. In his first season in charge of the 1st Team, Adam Castle led them to an 11th place finish in the Toolstation Western League Premier Division. The club retained the Premier Division Programme award. The 2nd Team finished in 4th place in the South Devon League Premier Division, and were beaten finalists in the Herald Cup, going down 3-1 to Watcombe Wanderers. The 2rd Team finished as runners-up to Dartmouth in the South Devon League Division One, but they retained the Fred Hewings Cup by beating Watcombe Wanderers 2nds 2-1, this was their third win of this trophy in the last four seasons. What another great season for the club was 2014-15, the 1st Team managed by Adam Castle finished as runners-up in the Western League Premier Division (Step Five), which was a great achievement, we also won the Premier Division programme award for the third consecutive season. The 2nd Team led by Neil Snell ended this season as Champions of the South Devon League Premier Division, and our 3rd Team managed by club stalwart Nigel Holmes also finished as champions, this time of the South Devon League Division One, and they also retained the Fred Hewings Cup winning it for the fifth time, they also introduced a few of our talented Under 16s players into senior football. Now onto the 2015-16 season, firstly there was substantial drainage work done to the playing surface during the summer, and we must thank Viridor Credits
wottonprinters.co.uk
for their help in funding these works. Onto the football, the 1st Team managed by Adam Castle finished in 4th Place in the Western League Premier Division, but not good enough to reach our goal of promotion. The 2nd Team managed again by Neil Snell retained the South Devon League Premier Division title, and were beaten finalists in the Herald Cup. Our 3rd Team finished the season in the South Devon League Division One as runners-up, in what was manager Nigel Holmes last season in charge. The club fielded it’s first Ladies team managed by Grant Fisher, in the Devon Women's League Division One, and they didn’t drop a point when winning the league title, and they then added the League Cup, in what was a fantastic season for them. Also during the season a lot of work was carried out at Homers Heath, including a new covered standing area, which incorporates two new turnstiles. The ground was fenced in, and an impressive outside toilet block was built. This work allowed the club to achieve a ‘D’ Ground Grade which is good enough for Southern League football. 2016-17 was another very good season for the club, the 1st Team finished in 4th place in the Western League Premier, and collected their best points tally since joining the league. The team also reached in the last eight of the FA Vase, going down 2-0 away against Bromsgrove Sporting, this means that it was very good season for new manager Ellis Laight. The club also won the Western League Hospitality Award and best programme award this season. The 2nd Team won their third consecutive South Devon League Premier Division title, under the leadership of Lee Chapman and Ben Robertson. Our 3rd Team under Phil Bearne and Paul Sharples finished as runners-up in the South Devon League Division One, and won their sixth Fred Hewings Cup trophy. Now on to our all conquering Ladies 1st Team who won the South West Women's League Western Division, dropping just two points over their unbeaten season. They also added the Soccerworld League Cup and the Devon FA Senior Cup to that success which saw them end this season as treble winners. Our Ladies 2nd Team finished mid-table in a very hard Devon Women's League Premier Division, and were beaten finalists in the Devon FA Supplementary Cup. There were also varies successes for our Junior sides, bot boys and girls. We now move onto the 2017-18 season, again the aim is for the 1st Team to gain promotion to the Southern League, which in turn would allow the 2nd Team if they finished in a promotion position to move up to the South West Peninsula League. The 1st Team will again be managed by Ellis Laight, and have kept all but one of last season squad. The 2nd Team will be

Buckland Athletic - A Club History & Honours led by Lee Chapman with the 3rd Team having Nigel Holmes in charge. The Ladies1st and 2nd Teams keep their management structure for this coming season, with the 1st Team now in the SWWL Premier Division and the 2nd Team in Devon Women's League Premier Division. There will also be more junior sides added in both boys and girls teams,. The club continues to grow, and with everyone pulling in the right direction, which includes our fantastic loyal sponsors, and supporters he sky is the limit to what we can achieve. The club continues to thrive both on and off the field of the play and this is due to the hard working ethics of all the volunteers within the club.
