Christian Talk Group Weds 23rd Feb & Weds 30th March, 9:30am to 11:30am The Christian Talk Group takes place on the last Wednesday of every month at the Riviera Centre between 9:30am and 11:30am. The sessions are as much of a social and friendship group as it is a Christian group. The sessions offer a unique opportunity for Christians and Non Christians to talk openly and equally, to share testimonies and experiences, to ask questions, to investigate their own thoughts and ideas, to test out beliefs etc with other people, on any and every level. Participants share Bible passages Psalms, Gospels, Old Testament, New Testament, pray together for family, friends, loved ones, children, parents, spouses, siblings and the world etc. Essentially the sessions intend to nurture and encourage participant’s faith in each other and to share the love and the life of Jesus Christ. events diary National Pool Lifeguard Qualification

Have you ever thought about becoming a lifeguard? Upon completion of our NPLQ, candidates can apply for work as a lifeguard at any pool in the UK. The course will take place over two consecutive weekends in March on Friday 4th, Saturday 5th & Sunday 6th / Friday 11th, Saturday 12th & Sunday 13th. The cost of the course is £200 per candidate which includes all training, the final assessment and logbook. The qualification is given based on the results of a theory and practical examination that will take place on the final day of the course. Candidates must be aged 16 or over, able to attend all sessions including the final examination and able to swim at least 200m. Places on this course are limited and so advanced booking is essential. Ruby Slipper’s Retro Romp is a 3 day celebration of vintage music, styling and memorabilia put on by the dynamic duo behind ‘A Kick Up The Arts’ and ‘Kinky & Quirky’s Burlesque and Boogie’ Held at The Rainbow Hotel Torquay Devon from Friday 1st to Sunday 3rd April 2011 vintage and retro loving folk can indulge themselves with a ‘weekender’ package or just come for the day. “There are some very established mod and rockabilly scenes down here in the West Country as well as some amazing dance groups who are into 20’s,30’s and 40’s music,” says Torquay based organizer Sarah Bell, “this fabulous event is the first of its kind in Devon as it brings together snippets of all the iconic pop culture from the last 100 years, mixed up and served with lashings of 21st century saucy seaside shenanigans.” The weekender will begin with ‘vintage dressmaker’ Gill Cockwell, from BBC1’s ‘Turn Back Time’ the series that traced the evolution of the High Street through the years, who will be the glamorous gal who cuts the red ribbon to open the event on Friday.

Opening from 11.00am – 4pm each day, visitors can root and rummage, ooh and aaah, try and buy and, get their full quota of retro retailing from a treasure trove of eclectic sellers. There will be a programme of events throughout each day to try too, so for those that want to learn the Lindy, try a Victory Roll, get some vintage beauty parlour tips, doodle some cabaret life drawings or pose like a pin-up this will be THE place to do it. After dark will see the red velvet and gold lame Club Rainbow hotting up as hosts Kinky & Quirky sprinkle their brand of fun & frivolity with a bit of sparkle and some fantastic music to make the joint start jumping. A killer line-up will feature some of the best names on the U.K rockin’, cabaret and burlesque scenes including a hillbilly hoedown from Exeter’s Bonneville Barons, extreme hula hooping from Pippa the Ripper, the chap- hop king Mr B The Gentleman Rhymer, the Axetastic Anna Fur Laxis and the gypsy swing sounds of Hamer & Isaacs.
