Flamework Studio: Volunteer artists demonstrate how glass beads, marbles, pendants, and miniature forms are created by melting glass rods over a hot torch.

Observe and help Folklife resident artist Ubaldo Sanchez (pictured left) create sacred kites from bamboo and tissue paper. Also known as Barriletes Gigantes (Huge Kites), they are made for the Day of the Dead. Kites fly to the heavens to ward off evil spirits who may disturb our dead ancestors and invite them to visit us. The kites created during this residency will become a part of a special Day of the Dead art installation hosted during WheatonArts HalloWheaton event on Saturday, Oct. 29. Thank you to Bamboo Jerry of Cape May Bamboo for generously donating bamboo for this project.

People, Place, Process - Focusing on the evolution of WheatonArts as a vital arts organization, this exhibition honors 50 years of glassmakers at the Center. Visitors will discover collaborations that artfully combine vision, artifacts that serve as muse, and the tools that connect skills across time.

Threads of Time & Wisdom: Chilean & Guatemalan Fiber Arts - This exhibition provides a visual comparison between traditional textiles of two indigenous communities of Latin America—the Chilean Mapuche people and the Guatemalan Maya. The artworks speak about identity and cultural heritage in a modern interconnected world. It also features Chilean horsehair (crin) miniatures of religious and secular objects.
