Batik With Watercolor

With watercolor batik, wax is used as a resist that blocks the areas that are not intended to receive paint Batiking is not an exact science, be prepared for unintentional drips of wax and oozing color Believe it or not, these actually add to the look of the piece! $10 material fee due to instructor first day of class

POTTERY- INTRO TO THROWING

All levels of clay experience welcome This foundations class will explore the fundamentals of hand construction and wheel throwing The class will contribute to developing muscle memory, upper body strength, as well as eye-hand coordination You will be introduced to clays, glazes, surface decoration techniques, and bisque/glaze firing within the electric kiln All clay and glazes must be acquired from the studio Please, no outside projects, clay bodies or glazes

The pottery studio is offered to registered students on Fridays ($3 drop in fee). Basic tools will be provided and shared by the class. Purchase your own, optional, basic tool kit for $15.

POTTERY- HAND-BUILT SLAB BUILT BUTTER DISH

Create a unique and fun slab-built butter dish worthy of your holiday table Learn to wedge clay for use, roll slabs using a slab roller or rolling pin, apply texture, stamp or carve Attach slab pieces using the slip and score method Add an ornate nob/ handle to the lid

A week break to allow your dish to dry Lesson on glazing basics, underglazes, stains, carving and wax resist Time to share creations Basic tools will be provided and shared by the class

A brief history of coil pots from prehistoric and primitive cultures, pre-dating wheel throwing Learn to wedge clay for coil rolling

Prepare a slab base Choose your design and create paper cut outs Attach layers of coils using the slip and score method A lesson on slip decoration and patterns from history for inspiration

Learn glazing basics, underglazes, stains, carving and wax resist If colored slips were used to decorate wet clay, clear underglaze and translucent glazes can be applied Stains can be applied and wiped away to make surface decorations such as carving more apparent . Time to share creations
