MAKING CHANG G As some mumble about having to winterize their summer toys and lake homes the rest of us have already tried on all of our snow gear and even started our sleds just to grab a couple deep breathes of those hi-octane fumes. Even at that, most of us are still way behind the Woodie’s Racing Team. These men and women haven’t stopped since winning last year’s AMSOIL Championship Snocross Team of the Year! From added riders, mechanics and sleds there has been no ‘off season’ for them. Which according to Paul Woodie, is just fine. Coming off such a successful year has had the entire ‘family’ chomping at the bit for the season opener just a few weeks away in Duluth, MN. I use the word ‘family’ because in speak ing with him I can tell that that is how he feels about his team. They aren’t just athletes making the podium or mechanics keeping the sleds in top performance condition. Each person involved is family to him, his wife Kym, and each other. PAGE 4

GES G AND READY Part of that has to do with how far this team has come since starting out. It’s the common bond they each share to grow and succeed that he contributes much of their success. This year the Woodie’s Racing team plans to step up once again by having athletes in each division, from Junior Girls and Boys all the way to Pro Open. Paul says he feels very fortunate to have Mike George (#37) healthy enough to get back on the hunt for podiums coming off of an injury. He and teammate Justin Broberg (#168) will be gunning for the Pro Open title while Tyler Adams (#705) will take on Pro Lite, Taven Woodie (#873) will try and continue her dominating streak in the girls class and run for a championship in the boys junior class also, Jordan Brinkman (#284) and Mitchell Gross (#671) in Sport Lite, Kaden Woodie (#980) for Sport, Jennifer Martel (#121) in Pro Am Womens, and Cody Thomsen (#62) has joined us for the year to run in the new class at the nationals of the snow bikes. One of the things that really stood out in our chat was the drive and push each teammate has to better each other, to create long lasting competitors and watch as they each climb up in the divisions. In watching a few videos of the riders during some training sessions at Get Fast Performance Training Center in St. Charles, IL. It was fun to watch the younger riders challenge themselves in all areas and then see how they would try to out preform the veteran riders. Not long ago I saw a video where they were all at it again right in the backyard, encouraging each other to push their training right through the short and t-shirt weather and stay focused on what is coming up soon. Paul feels this is another reason they continue to have numerous podium wins, they all support and yet challenge each other growing and learning as a true team.
PAGE 6
Woodie is sure to give the entire team credit. “‘It’s not just the riders that make this family successful, “ he says, “With our crew chief, Mike Hass and the experience and dedication from Ryan Duncan, Nate McConnell, Dylan Williams, Matt Pfankuch, Jesse Hendrickson, and Brock Tobiason, I have no doubt the sleds will always be ready to perform.” He explained how the mix of them makes the rhythm of just continue to flow. There was one more thing Paul was excited to share…This year Woodie’s Racing is welcoming Motion Pro as their official tool sponsor. Motion Pro is just as excited since this is the first they will be involved in the snocross world. They are both very confident with Motion Pro, Inc, as they design and manufacture high quality cables, tools and controls for motorcycles, ATVs, personal watercraft and yes, snowmobiles!

Motion Pro was founded in 1984 by Christopher Carter, a gold medal winner in the 6-day ISDT. Carter is part of the crew that develop most of the tools that they offer, which alongside the engineers creates a strong knowledge base of what is needed. Numerous athletes and mechanics worldwide are already onboard with Motion Pro and the Woodie’s team is ready to show what they can do for them. //

4TH ANNUAL BENEFIT FOR THE MINNESOTA INNOCENCE PROJECT Going to an August hotrod show in North Branch, Minnesota turned out to be a good idea for my wife Cathy and me. It was a Minnesota Street Muscle Association supported event that featured a very nice turn-out of great looking cars. It was one of those “something for everyone” kind of car shows. The onsite DJ was playing a lot of 50’s and 60’s music so that was a good fit. After he played “I’m a believer” by the Monkees, he asked anyone that knew who wrote that song to come up to his rig to win a prize. I did and told him I though Neil Diamond wrote that song. He did, so I won a nice pair of sunglasses. I wear prescription glasses so I gave them to one of the people in the Minnesota Innocence Project booth. Walking up to were the cars were on display the first one that caught my eye was, I thought, a 1954 or 1955 Corvette. As it turns out I was wrong; sort of. Actually the red convertible was both a 1955 and a 2000 Corvette. Great mix of a ’55 body with a much newer interior and drivetrain. You don’t see that every day but I have seen a few at Barrett-Jackson auctions. Some in the car collecting community don’t like that process and some do. Good; again, something for everyone.

I remember Hayden Proffit’s Travelin’ Javelin Funny Car so it was fun to see American Motors cars in a group of 3 from that now long gone company. I’ll go out on a limb here and guess the owners knew each other. I spoke with one of them about drag racing and, as I understand it, an American Motors Funny Car is being restored in North Branch. How cool is that? An AMX and a Rebel were parked next to the Javelin; it was a great looking group of extremely well preserved cars.o surprise here, a lot of Fords from the 1930’s were on display. Checking out what they now have under the hood it was very clear those are not the engines that were with those cars when they rolled off the assembly line. Not close. Among the Fords, as a 30’s Victoria fan, I thought a ’31 hotrod was a great looking ride. Shiny doesn’t begin to describe how that car was kept.
What would a hotrod show be without a ’57 Chevy or 3? As is always the case, there were a few there and they were all treated with tender loving care. That is absolutely one of America’s classic cars. Coupes, convertibles, standard station wagons or, my favorite from that year, a Nomad wagon all help that year stand out for Chevy fans. A black Impala from the following year was an eye catcher. From the engine to the roof line and the removal of door handles there were a number of well-done changes that were well done. For Chevrolet there were significant design changes for 1957, ’58 and ’59. The 1960 sedan was a close cousin to the previous year. Another Chevy from that era, a 1963 Impala has been one of my favorites since the year it was introduced. Continue page 18 NOV 2016

Seeing a red ’63 next to an orange 1933 Ford hotrod was a nice mix. A very nice 1959 Ford with small chrome skirts added a nice flavor to the mix of cars. Another no-longer-being-made car from the world of Chrysler stood out. Then again, a pink and white car that is, I’m pretty sure, slightly larger than my first condo will do that. I should have looked; if it had Minnesota license plates on the front and Wisconsin on the back, I wouldn’t have been surprised. Yes indeed, a Desoto.

I liked the “Yes, it’s a hemi” notification on the information sheet on the windshield. I’m familiar with cars I see at shows that are in the no longer made category but the I-havenever-seen-one-of-those-before group is pretty small. That said, this get together gave me the opportunity to see my first Hudson Terraplane. They were built from 1932 until 1938 by the Hudson Motor Car Company in Detroit, Michigan. Speaking of rides you have never seen, along with that Hudson Terraplane I also saw my first Woody trike. Woody Station wagons? No problem, I have seen a lot of them and think they’re a hoot. Woody sedans? Less common than wagons but still a few around. A 3 wheel woody motorcycle is, for me, a whole other group. A large collection of Mopar cars, Barracuda, Charger, etc. had a large section of the display area and they were another they-look-like-new group. //

NHRA MI Written By </ David H. Pruszka >
The Saint Louis NHRA Gateway Midwest Nationals was a very warm three days of great racing. This was the second race of the countdown to the championship and spoilers eager for a win made it all the more challenging for those still in the hunt. Antron Brown, before this event, was leading in the Top Fuel Dragster points standings as were Ron Capps in Nitro Fuel Funny Car, Jason Line in Pro Stock Car and Andrew Hines in Pro Stock Motorcycle. This event also was a J & A Services Pro Mod stop in their series with over 25 entries vying for 16 slots for a position in the finals line-up on Sunday. PAGE 22
