Hello! This issue of Whim Online Magazine marks quite a special milestone for the publication – We’ve now released 10 issues since our beginning in February of 2013! For the past few months we have had a tiny break from releasing digital issues to continue working hard on our website, so this has only amplified the excitement for me about this special issue. Q: When did you first discover your love of photography?
the experience you had whilst working on this photo shoot?
A: I first discovered my love for photography in mid 2013, I had no previous experience with photography at all. It all started when I purchased my first DSLR on my own. It was very basic and had minimal functions, overtime I caught on and it eventually just became second nature to me.
A: With all photo shoots, you will meet extraordinary talented people, people who are inspired and full of wisdom. On this shoot, it was no different to any others I have done in the past. A creative team with a common goal. I had a very talented team, Jolina O’Hair (make up artist), Ange Pav Tonk from KOSA studio (Hair Stylist), Jessica DiScipio (Stylist), Nalin Kicurczak from Peacock and Lotus (Headpiece designer) and Ally Hourigan (Model). Because of our mindset we already had a visual idea of what we wanted, it was just a matter of getting the right angle. On shoots I believe it’s a team effort and everyone’s ideas or feedback is critical in creating an amazing image, because we have a common goal, it’s sometimes a good idea to step back and see things from other people’s perspective. As a result I managed to take these pretty wicked portraits.
Q: What inspires your creativity the most? A: What inspires me to be creative is a number of factors, mainly my peers and those I surround myself with, they always act as my base, and from that my idea builds and builds. While shooting on set or on location I look for objects or obstacles, which can bring visual interest to an image (anything around me, I use the environment to my advantage). Q: Please tell us a little about
Q: Please describe what an average day in your life looks like? A: My life is very average; I wouldn’t consider it anything overly special. I don’t have anyone special in my life that I can call mine so I spend most of my time shooting, it’s my getaway from my day job as a Systems/Business Analyst during the week and because of this I find myself over-working on weekends shooting and myself paying the price when it comes to editing, but when I do get the chance to do something else I tend to not hesitate (e.g. walking/jogging, dog park, badminton, lunch, dinner, etc). Other than that it’s practically stereotypical in what you would expect a 24 year old would do sleep, eat, rave, repeat (maybe not the rave part). Q: Lastly, what do you hope to achieve with your photography in the not-too-distant future; do you have any exciting upcoming plans that you would like to share with us?
A: What I expect and hope to achieve… My goal for this year and next year is attempt to get sponsored by a camera brand, looking towards you Fujifilm and Canon! But definitely photo shoots and further publications. I want to expand my knowledge in photography and get better and better, as most people will know that only happens with time as you keep shooting. Learning new editing techniques to speed up my workflow is another achievement I want in the near future (my workflow currently takes about 20-40 minutes per image). As for what I would like to share with you guys… well I’ll be doing bigger collaborations within the next few months, which will become more creative as they come, it’s all still in the talks so I don’t have an exact date. My name is Ashley and I would describe myself as the photographic equivalent of a hopeless romantic. The first thing that made me want to pick up a camera was to document the world around me and since then, to express myself artistically. When I'm not busy capturing beautiful images, you can find me working, eating, and sleeping (the normal stuff). My work can best be described as a trip through Dream Land, and my biggest accomplishment to date would have to be getting the courage to just make it happen and ask people to collaborate. If I could be any animal in the world, I would be a cat because I've already got the curiosity to back it up. When it comes to my favourite food, I just can't go past macaroni & cheese. My dream holiday destination would be Ireland because of the incredible natural landscapes and the magical feel. If I could capture my 'dream photoshoot' in this location, it would look a lot like this: A model in a romantic flowing gown out on the moors with seaside cliffs and a castle in the background. For the second half of 2015, I'm really looking forward to collaborating with some old friends, and hopefully some new people as well! If I could offer one piece of advice to aspiring photographers, it would be this: Always be yourself, even when it's not the popular thing to do. Q: When did your love of styling first blossom and what motivated you to pursue this field? A: When I started out as a styling assistant I was working mainly with a lovely stylist in Sydney, Claire Delmar. Her talent of bringing a range of different elements together to create a beautiful set inspired me to pursue this path. Q: What inspires your creativity the most? A: Recently I’ve fallen in love with flowers. It might sound kind of strange but I never realised how beautiful a posy of mixed native flowers can be. Q: Please describe what an average day in your life looks like? A: My life as a stylist is so varied I don’t really have an ‘average’ day! Some days are spent driving around sourcing products for photo shoots, some days are spent on set, other days I work from home doing paperwork. My
favourite days are when I’m on a photo shoot or when I get to create something crafty for a shoot while sitting in front of the telly! Q: We absolutely love 'The Pink Chair' editorial! Please tell us a little more about your involvement and process in creating this photo shoot? A: I was generously given this beautiful pink velvet chair by a friend and immediately had thoughts of how I could incorporate it into a photo shoot. Having worked with Hilary Walker in the past I knew her photography style would be perfect for what I had in mind. We both searched out locations that would tie in with the theme and I sourced all the fashion from some of my favourite local designers. The shoot itself was a breeze. Despite all the back and forth to the various locations, all the planning paid off. Not to mention that our model, Thea from Scene Models, was lovely to work with.
Q: What do you hope to achieve with your styling career in the not-too-distant future; Do you have any exciting, upcoming plans that you would like to share with us? A: I’m looking forward to incorporating more flowers and floral elements into my upcoming shoots. I recently styled a wedding and loved it. It will be great to do more event styling in the future.

Q: When did your love of photography first blossom and what motivated you to pursue this field? A: I studied photography in high school and really loved it from the first time I used the darkroom. It was so exciting seeing my images appear on the paper. I never tired of it! I studied psychology straight after high school and then I decided I wanted to pursue a more creative field. I applied for the BA in Photography at RMIT and was surprised to get in and thought I’d give it a go. I loved the course and would’ve stayed there a lot longer if I could have.
Q: What inspires your creativity the most? A: Interesting light and beautiful films, an unusual object or something that’s out of place. Q: Please describe what an average day in your life looks like? A: My days are either shoot days
or editing days. On an editing day I get up early and walk or ride my bike to my computer which lives at Little Gold Studios. I do a bit of admin then start working on my latest job. I have lunch with the lovely people that share Little Gold and carry on editing through the afternoon with admin inbetween. It’s pretty straight forward! Shoot days are less usual as I can be anywhere from my own warehouse in Brunswick (which I share with my husband and shoot in regularly) to a farm or someone’s home…. Often there’s a bit of driving involved and working with new people. Q: 'The Pink Chair' is a visual masterpiece! Please tell us a little more about your involvement and process in creating this photo shoot? A: Rachel was inspired by the pink chair which she found - so the idea started with her. We came up with the locations and backgrounds
together then Rachel collected all the lovely clothes. Having a lovely model really helps! Thea was really enthusiastic and fun to work with. Q: What do you hope to achieve with your photography career in the not-too-distant future; Do you have any exciting, upcoming plans that you would like to share with us? A: Most of all I would like to have a solo exhibition. I’ve only had group ones so far and I think it’s time to have my own show. I’ll be having my first baby later this year so I am (perhaps foolishly) hoping that this will combine well with doing some more of my own work while I take a little break from regular jobs.

Q: When did you first begin your blog, The Land of Lavish, and why? A: In July of 2013, I created The Land of Lavish to chronicle my adventures with style, fantasy and all things pretty. Ever since I was a little girl, I have always loved fashion and storytelling. So I thought why not star as the princess of my own little fairytale kingdom; an online land to dream, dress-up and play make-believe! Q: How would you describe yourself in just three words? A: Dreamer. Rosy. Imaginative. Q: What does an average day in the life of Liana involve? A: When I immerse myself into the world of The Land of Lavish, my head is always in the clouds, bringing my visions to life. On average, this involves heading to the many whimsical forests and gardens of Australia to shoot style stories, creating fashion films for my YouTube channel, writing tales, styling, and lots of editing. Oh, and of course not forgetting to stop and smell the roses, play with my cat, and drink copious amounts of tea!
Q: Please tell us about your own fashion style and what inspires your style the most? A: My fashion style constantly evolves, but I always love to dress young, playful and whimsical. If I could, I would wear an ethereal dress with floral embroidery to a magical forest every day. A girl can dream‌ Nature is what inspires me the most, and I adore changing my style with the seasons. Watching the changing leaves of autumn, the delicate cherry blossoms of springtime, and the fluttering hydrangeas of summer is such a beautiful sight; it somehow always inspires my outfits.
Q: What do you hope to achieve with your blog in the not-toodistant future; Do you have any exciting, upcoming plans that you would like to share with us? A: I hope The Land of Lavish continues to be a place where people can be swept away into the magic of fairytales, explore fashion fantasy, and believe in the beauty of their dreams. I’m very excited to continue learning and grow my passion for photography and filmmaking to build my blog into a multi-media destination, and really bring to life my modern fairytale. Q: When did you first discover your love of photography?
A: My love for photography came at a very young age in part due to my grandfather being a professional photographer in his homeland, Colombia. Ever since I can remember I always had a disposable camera in my hand in grade school capturing every moment but I was about 15 when I finally learned to shoot on a DSLR. Around 17, I got my camera stolen and went off to university with the pursuit of photography long behind me. And about two years ago, I decided to pick up a camera again and learn to shoot fashion. Since then, it's been a wonderful and enlightening journey. Q: What inspires your creativity the most? A: Colors and fashion trends around me. Shooting film has been a big inspiration to my creativity because it helps to actually stop and think about a shot before you snap it since with 35mm film you are limited to the amount of
photos you take. Q: Please tell us a little about the experience you had whilst working on this photoshoot? A: This shoot was supposed to be a test to try and get some lovely golden hour captures and cherry blossom trees since we were at the end of the bloom. Of course, all of the cherry blossom trees had fell and the sun left us as soon as we begun shooting. We didn't let that get to us though and kept on...then by the end of the shoot, we had turned the aesthetic of the shoot completely around. Q: Please describe what an average day in your life looks like? A: Well an average day in my life gets quite hectic! I work a full time 9-5 day job in the music industry and then shoot two nights a week for an e-commerce client. On weekends or weekday evenings in the summer time when the sun is out longer, I shoot my personal projects
Then I end my day while I edit, netflixing and time spent with my partner! Q: Lastly, what do you hope to achieve with your photography in the not-too-distant future; Do you have any exciting upcoming plans that you would like to share with us? A: I hope to keep dreaming and shooting. I know there's so much more left to learn so I hope to assist photographers and educate myself to hone my own craft and really develop my style. All this comes with the hopes of immersing myself into the field full time within the next year. Q: When did you first discover your love of photography? A: About 10 years ago, I learned how to make a pinhole camera in school and I’ve had an obsession with photography ever since. Q: What inspires your creativity the most? A: Currently fairy tales and old folk stories, locations, and flowers. Q: Please tell us a little about the experience you had whilst working on this photoshoot? A: It was a lot of fun! We started out in a beautiful flower field, the whole shoot was supposed to be outside but it started to rain so we improvised and did some studio. I think it worked out better that way. Q: Please describe what an average day in your life looks
like? A: Very busy. I have a 2-year-old son, so most of my days are centred around him. Lots of time spent at the beach or at the park. He keeps my imagination thriving. Q: Lastly, what do you hope to achieve with your photography in the not-too-distant future; Do you have any exciting upcoming plans that you would like to share with us? A: I hope to challenge myself and put more effort into set design and props. One of my images is going to be shown at the Louvre in part of the Exposure Awards in July, I am very excited about that!

Nicola Kimpton
Q: When did you first discover your love of art? A: As a child. At school I remember illustrating concepts to go with our written work and this was often my favourite part of the lesson! A teacher complimented me on my creations and it really gave me joy and confidence. In my spare time, I enjoyed drawing images from books and magazines and drawing from life. I loved finding books filled with vintage illustrations at markets and would pore over the pictures. My dad was also a draftsman so that was an early influence. I also learned dance, played the violin and enjoyed writing. I still love writing, although art is the form I most enjoy expressing myself through. I find it magical, cathartic and seductive!
Q: Which three words would you use to describe your artistic style? A: Elegant, sensitive and graceful.
Q: What inspires your creativity the most? A: I’m inspired by many things, including fashion, editorials, magazines, beauty, nature, dreams, fairy tales and intuition. I’m fairly eclectic! As a creative person, I never really seem to switch off from inspiration and try to have a notebook or my tablet device handy to record my ideas as they come. Ideas that move from concepts to become creations usually speak to me in some way and are ideas I feel will translate well into engaging artworks. I also enjoy writing and can be inspired by stories and poems. Often it’s intuitive – I rely on my intuition and gut feelings a lot.
Q: Please describe an average day in the life of Nicola? A: I get up, have breakfast, update and check social media and respond to emails etc. I then spend the rest of the day working on creative projects. This involves sourcing inspiration, gathering images and taking reference photos and then it’s onto my favourite part – creating! I love drawing and losing myself in expressive line work. I often have music playing in the background. This helps me to go with the flow and inspires my work. I also like to do yoga and go out for walks. In the evening I try to set down my goals for the following day – it helps to be organised! Q: What do you hope the not-too-distant future holds for your art career; Do you have any exciting, upcoming plans that you would like to share with us? A: I’d love to illustrate for fashion, bridal and lifestyle magazines and to make a successful long-term career out of my art. I’d also love to illustrate book covers, do book illustrations and collaborate with major fashion/beauty/lifestyle brands and designers etc. Perhaps at some point I would also like to set up an online store and sell prints and cards and maybe do private commissions if time allows. Other than that, keep drawing and creating and working to be the best that I can be. I’m excited to see what exciting opportunities come my way!

Q: When did you first discover your love of photography? A: I started my love of photography more as a hobby when I created my blog 8 years ago showcasing my mixed media art, home, family and travels. I quickly gained the attention of readers and loyal followers and it really helped to have beautiful quality photos. I invested in a nice camera and took the time to learn more about photography. At the time it was more of a hobby. I fell in love with taking pretty pictures that showcased my assemblage artwork, art events I hosted, and my home sweet home. My blog and photos was my mini "life" magazine. It wasn't until about two years ago that I wanted to branch out creatively from my mixed media artwork and take my photography to a more serious level. I enjoy coming up with creative ideas and watching it flourish into an amazing styled photo shoot. That's the turning point when I became seriously passionate
about photography. Q: What inspires your creativity the most? A: Nature, books, art, children, history. It can even be the simple, small things in everyday life. Q: Please tell us a little about the experience you had whilst working on this photoshoot? A: My photo shoot titled "Sleeping Beauty Awakens" came to flourish when I first laid eyes on my model Allie. I knew immediately I wanted the shoot to have a romantic boho sleeping beauty theme. We started early in the morning with makeup and hair by the talented Jeffrey Ortega. The dress I picked out for Allie to wear is actually my Mother's wedding dress. The dress fit her like a glove. It has a gorgeous square bust line and lace belle sleeves. The dress reminds me of what Ophelia wore in the famous John Waterhouse paintings. I made the floral crown that she beautifully wears.
The location of the shoot was on my neighbour's property. The home is an old Italian Villa with lush gardens, statues and fountains. It was the perfect natural backdrop for my vision. We shot early morning which worked perfectly with the lighting as it peeked through the trees. Allie is so striking with her blue eyes and long dark hair that she stood out beautifully against Mother Nature's backdrop. Q: Please describe what an average day in your life looks like? A: An average day for me is waking super early, having my first cup of coffee and getting a quick work out. I am a busy Mother of two so my mornings are hectic getting my children ready for school and out the door. I cherish the quiet time in my home. I like to get started on my work whether it be editing, processing portrait orders, scouting locations, or anything photography-related early morning and before noon. That's when I feel most energized and creative. Days when I'm not working on my photography I can be found in my art studio creating
my whimsical, happy mixed media art. Q: Lastly, what do you hope to achieve with your photography in the not-too-distant future; Do you have any exciting upcoming plans that you would like to share with us? A: There is so much I want to achieve with my photography. I am constantly learning and evolving with my technique and editing skills. I love composite photography so I've been taking online classes to learn more about it. It's fun to play around creatively with a simple photo. My goal is to shoot more video and learn animated portrait photography. We live in such a visually driven society that I challenge myself to produce stronger, more beautiful and powerful images. I'm excited to see where this photography journey takes me. :)

I went to my local photography studio to get some acting headshots taken and discovered that I really enjoyed the experience. The photographer told me I was a 'natural' in front of the camera! After that, for a year or so it became my hobby to build up my portfolio by working with photographers who needed models to expand their portfolios too. And it went on from there! Q: What inspires your creativity the most?
A: I particularly enjoy meeting and working with new people, at new locations. Being a model, every day is different and you can never re-create the same photo! Q: How would you describe yourself in just 3 words? A: Ambitious, Motivated & Imaginative. Q: Please tell us about the
process of organising and bringing this beautiful photoshoot to fruition; Did you encounter any difficulties along the way, or was it a very smooth process? A: I was born and raised in the picturesque county of Norfolk in the UK. As most of my work is in London now, I don't have access to beautiful beaches and the countryside anymore! For this reason, I decided to contact some of Norfolk's finest wedding suppliers and head back to the coast to create this collaboration shoot! All the suppliers involved regularly work within the wedding industry so the difficulty I found with organising this shoot was to find a day where everyone was available! (Especially with it being peak wedding season too!) Eventually, we picked a day we could all do and prayed for sun... and luckily there was! We hope that our shoot inspires brides-tobe and encourages people to support their local independent suppliers.
The make-up was flawlessly applied by Melissa Abel to accompany a beautiful, boho hairstyle created by Gemma Holiday. Kathryn Potter from 'Love Couture' kindly lent us a range of her dresses from classical to eclectic in design which were fabulously styled by fashion stylist Abi Gray. To set the scene, we were lucky to have Penny Baldry from 'The Little Lending Company' on board who provided an array of vintage props. Beautiful flowers in coastal colours were arranged by Samantha Powell from 'The Little Flower Shop' completing the look perfectly. This all wouldn't have been possible if it weren't for the talented photographic skills of Jessica Elisze Photography and her ability to capture magical moments. Q: What do you hope to achieve with your modelling career in the not-too-distant future; Do you have any exciting, upcoming plans that you would like to share with us? A: I just hope to continue doing
what I enjoy. I think that's the most important thing - if you love what you're doing then you know you're going in the right direction! In regards to upcoming work... I can reveal that I am currently working on a new movie adaptation of the classic Disney fairytale, 'Beauty and the Beast' as a double for Belle!
