Interview: Kat Quinn Q: When did your love of photography first blossom? A: I think photography has been a flow on effect of my makeup work. In my first few years of working as a makeup artist I did a lot of networking with photographers to build my portfolio and always found it fascinating and I figured learning to use a camera would only benefit my makeup work... It has been amazing to grab a model and do relaxed little photoshoots of an afternoon. Q: What inspires your creativity the most? A: I love fashion, makeup and pretty scenery! So when they all come together my eyes are super happy. I love vintage fashion, lace, and florals. I also love working with models and love putting together a shoot and working off each other’s creativity Q: Please tell us about the experience you had whilst capturing this photo shoot for Whim Vintage? A: It was such a fun day shooting with Mel from Whim Vintage and Sinead from Neon Model Management! We shot at the stunning botanic gardens in Wollongong and I don't think we all stopped laughing and talking the whole shoot.. the lighting was perfect and I shot with only natural light. I also did Sinead's hair and makeup on the day on location.

Q: We understand that you are also a very accomplished hair and makeartist. Please tell us more about this passion of yours? A: Makeup is my life!! Lol I love the transformation and confidence that makeup gives women. The more that I do makeup the more that I love it! I love everything about the industry from doing weddings to doing photoshoots and working with other photographers for editorial and bridal work. Hair is a new addition to my business and I love learning new skills.

Q: Lastly, what do you hope to achieve with your photography and hair / make-up artistry in the not-too-distant future; Do you have any exciting, upcoming news that you would like to share with us? A: I really like to take things as they come, but I'm hoping to do some more creative shoots and plan something a bit bigger for my photography, so far my shoots have been very relaxed last minute type so to plan something for my own work would be really interesting.. Makeup-wise I am hoping to do more editorial work in the coming months and would love to get my work featured on another print magazine cover. I do have an editorial photoshoot being featured in an international magazine in the coming months which I am super excited about See more of Kat’s photography on Facebook (www.facebook.com/KQPhotography-759697307458109/) or check out her make-up artistry on her website (www.katquinnmakeup.com)

The Secret Garden Photographer: Kate Lionis www.katelionis.com Model: Nicole Johnson www.facebook.com/nicolejmodel Makeup: Billie Dong www.facebook.com/billiemakeup Hair: Patricia Santos Mokdessi www.facebook.com/hairwithpat

Interview: Kate Lionis Q: When did your love of photography first blossom? A: I was quite young when I first started taking pictures. Originally it was of everything and only recently have I stumbled across editorial photography, allowing you to connect with the model but allowing your (and your team's) creativity to shine through! Q: What inspires your creativity the most? A: A lot of things; a location, a dress I want to photograph, books, other people’s work is very inspiring! Q: Please tell us about the experience you had whilst capturing this stunning photo shoot?

A: It was the first time I have had to work with a team (before that it was me and the model) and it was fantastic to have Billie, Patricia and Nicole's ideas combine with mine. Aristotle said it best "The whole is greater than the sum of its parts". Q: What does an average day in your life look like? A: The day is arranged around my kids. We get up and ready, they go to Kindy. I go do some yoga or run (usually both). Work on pictures and develop ideas through the day. Pick kids up, play, dinner, baths, bed, pass out next to husband! Q: Lastly, what do you hope to achieve with your photography in the nottoo-distant future; Do you have any exciting, upcoming news that you would like to share with us? A: I have a few editorials in the development stage at the moment and I can't wait to photograph them! Naked Brush By Ebony Watson cargocollective.com/EbonyRed I’m naked, black and bare; my arms outstretched in a warrior pose. With one big toe in front of the other I step onto cold grey stones that sleep in the shallow ripples. I see youHunched over, tripped yellow haired and shining dead under the afternoon glow. Our clothes are in the long thin brush. I want to run to you but instead I just observe from afar. You are golden, illuminated, I watch as you move towards the burning bush. We have no names. The only sounds are the hands of the falls, a roaring melody of water in our ears yet we hear nothing. Soft breaths we hold under the thick clouds of spring. I used the pine needle that drifted to the soft earth to carve into my thick tree skin. Easeful emerald eyes watched from the back of your head under shaded light-I love you but my wrists are hurting. Traced tender veins, tender groove where you hurt, where the love spilled out and disappeared. I saw the light around you however far away. I couldn’t touch, I couldn’t speak. Couldn’t dream anymore. I'll surrender the memory of my imagined lover, friend-though I’m broken across this subtle lake of rippled, gentle fire. With my dead long monkey arms above me, ribs birds eye view-I’ll go with the shaky leaves, whispering. Hushed rattle of the wind. We won’t fly anywhere, go anywhere, love, anywhere.

On the Farm Photography & Retouch: Grace Sears facebook.com/gracesearsphotography Model: Lindsay Castagnola (Heyman Talent Agency) www.heymantalent.com Wardrobe: Vintage

Interview: Grace Sears Q: When did your love of photography first blossom? A: I’ve always been infatuated with taking and looking at pictures since I was a child but my passion for photography didn’t start until my last year of high school. It all started with the desire to take pictures in a way I saw the world. Q: What inspires your creativity the most? A: Nature, stories, pictures, life, anything and everything. I truly find inspiration anywhere. My favorite inspirations are based on stories. I want my images to say something. Q: Please tell us about the experience you had whilst capturing this stunning photo shoot? A: It was absolutely amazing. It was so much fun trying something new and taking pictures with animals. We were blessed with a beautiful sunrise and great lighting the rest of the morning. My model, Lindsay Castagnola, really deserves the praise for the success of this shoot. She made the experience captivating by really connecting with the animals. Q: What does an average day in your life look like? A: Buzzing around running errands or working on a new project. My schedule is usually all over the place in all honesty. There is no order usually. I go where the wind takes me ;) Q: Lastly, what do you hope to achieve with your photography in the nottoo-distant future; Do you have any exciting, upcoming news that you would like to share with us? A: My current goal is to get an internship with a commercial/fashion photographer and attend a few workshops. I just received news that ‘Ophelia’ became editor’s choice on 500px. See more of Grace’s work on Facebook (facebook.com/gracesearsphotography) or on her website (www.gracesears.com).

Float Me Down to the

River Photographer / Artistic Direction: Connie Marina www.conniemarina.com Make up artist: Emily J MUA Stylist: Jules Salinas Jewelry Designer: Kya Deann Assistants & BTW: Hudson T. and Lydia Brannen Model: Ursula Wiedmann Models ft. Lulu Eskins

Interview: Connie Marina Q: When did your love of photography first blossom? A: Photography happened through some modelling in early high school. I was always bummed whenever I saw how the photographer edited the final pictures, and I started doing lots of shoots by myself, which helped me learn so much. My junior year of college, I encountered a photographer whose pictures blew my mind, and it was right there that I knew what my purpose was, and all the work I did with editing made sense. Q: What inspires your creativity the most? A: My brother is the most inspirational artist I know. He’s a painter and graphic designer. He has so many crazy abstract ideas/incredible artistic visioning that help you envision thing’s big picture. Q: Please tell us about the experience you had whilst capturing this stunning photo shoot? A: My shoots are generally all outdoors, so we were shooting in the ruins of an abandoned mansion. The river next to it was so refreshing, and we all got so soaked shooting in there! Q: What does an average day in your life look like? A: I’m still in school and teaching now so my academic day lasts 9-11 hours. I go home, make business calls and edit for around 4-5 hours. I don’t sleep too much! But on weekends, I’m able to edit 10-12 hours a day, and it makes me so happy! I would consider myself a very business oriented person, so it’s so nice to be able to give every day 110%.

Q: Lastly, what do you hope to achieve with your photography in the nottoo-distant future; Do you have any exciting, upcoming news that you would like to share with us? A: Photography is such a huge part of our world these days, and I really want people to be able to see all the positivity that comes from it. As for shoots, I’m so excited for a tribal shoot my team and I have coming up. It’s been an idea in my head for a while, and it’s taken months to come through. The details are very specific and intricate, so my amazing make-up artist has been working so hard for my vision to come true! I cannot wait to share it with y’all! The Old

House Photography: Emma Griffin www.griffin-photography.co.uk Model: Crystal Lily Hair and makeup: Neal Dakota Clothing: Shell Belle Couture, Claire Pettibone, Blush

Interview: Emma Griffin Q: When did your love of photography first blossom? A: I have always loved photography and I have always used photography to record moments, whether that is capturing my family or fashion models. I guess I truly fell in love with photography when I decided to create visual stories through photography in 2011, which is now today my job and my passion. Q: What inspires your creativity the most? A: It's not really one thing, lots of things inspire me but I guess mainly it's films, people’s conversations, people I met and from history of art. Q: Please tell us about the experience you had whilst capturing this stunning photo shoot? A: I loved creating this visual story. A friend of mine who is a fine artist had just moved into this amazing house and before the building work was about to start she decided she would lay on an art exhibition to the response to the house. The exhibition was called Walking Into Memory where a lot of other fine artists in Cornwall created work for. She said I could use the space to create a shoot in, which I of course jumped for joy at! I wanted to create something that was ghost-like, something that shouted out fashion couture and was darker in colour than what I usually do. It was also fun for me to make a dress that the model could sit down in for this shoot. With working with designer dresses you have to keep everything clean, so I needed to create something that would suit and could get dirty. Using bubble wrap as a corset top was a great idea! This shoot was more of a success that I at first thought it would be! Q: What does an average day in your life look like?

A: It starts with a black coffee and breakfast and me going through my filofax to check my daily list of to do's. I am usually out photographing, or answering emails, editing, talking to clients, making films, creating mood boards for my next stories or spending time with my family. It's pretty busy. Q: Lastly, what do you hope to achieve with your photography in the nottoo-distant future; Do you have any exciting, upcoming news that you would like to share with us? A: I am about to take my work to its next level. I cannot wait for next year and where I will be going as an artist. I am creating fine art photography books from visual stories I have created myself, which will be available for sale as well as fine art limited prints. La fiancĂŠe des Bois

Photography: Carole Nicolas / Mnimaia Photogaphie www.flickr.com/photos/135817288@N06 Modèle: Allyssandrovna MUA: Marlene Boye

Interview: Carole Nicolas Q: When did your love of photography first blossom? A: It wasn't totally like a crush (a "coup de foudre"), it was like something deeply growing in me. I remember my first model was my sister and it was with her that I first learnt the technique. After it blossomed together like flowers do during springtime, I took pictures of every flower in my parents’ backyard, thinking the next flower was even more beautiful than the previous (I was never a satisfied artist growing up). I was about 14 years old, so very young to begin. I had my first SLR at about 17 years old, and it was my love for film photography which had begun. Then I bought my first DSLR at 19 years old, because film photography was too expensive, sadly. Q: What inspires your creativity the most? A: What inspires my creativity the most is people in general, films, music a lot, art... And personal “questionnement” also! I need to be surrounded by other creatives to be really efficient, or for my work to be complete. So I choose properly my teams each time, and if I have to work by myself (selfportraits...) I work alone. I don't want others, even creatives, to see me "soul-naked". I think the past, and childhood inspires me a lot, as well as nature. I think nature and human beings in all their imperfections inspires me the most. And I love those imperfections, those "unbalanced" personalities, as well in nature. Q: Please tell us more about the experience you had whilst capturing these beautiful images for "La fiancée des Bois"? A: "La fiancée des Bois" was a great project I had in my mind. To explain better, I should say that I consider every part of the shooting team I work with as "artists" on their own. So basically I can't do something proper

without the help of other creatives. We have our "secret" language, it's like we understood each other when talking about "La fiancĂŠe des Bois". I wanted to do that project with Allyssandrovna, a Russian and French model, who is a great friend as well, as we are united by the same love for arts and photography. She advised me Marlène Boye as makeup artist, and it was a great meeting between us. She had a great proposition of makeup which matched with what I had in mind, more than what I told her actually. We went to the park "Vaugenier" near Nice, French Riviera, and it's kind of like a magical forest over there, preserved of all the luxury around like palaces, spas, etc... So, apart from the big amount of mosquitos putting us back to reality, our minds could wander easily in such an environment! The shooting was a "forest spirit" themed one, where we couldn't say if the girl in the pictures was real or just a product of our imagination. Q: What does an average day in the life of Carole look like? A: The average day in my life is basically the train. I spend a lot of time on public transport, because I'm forced to do so as I don't have a proper driving licence, blame me, but also because I love indirect contact with people. I mean by that, I like observing discreetly the pieces of lives I cross, I will certainly never meet again... This is truly beautiful and sad at the same time. I live in a little town-village close to Nice, but I have to take the train during about 3h to go to and be back from university each day. So it gives me some time to think about projects, explore human thoughts, feelings, sentiments, emotions... More than this, I explore my environment to seek places where I feel inspired... as far as I know, I've never "not" been inspired by a place. Meeting people is also part of my average day. I don't go to cocktails, parties, stuff life this... I’m more like a shy and imaginative person, so I prefer to talk to others fully sober! I usually get contacted via social networks, booking platforms...

Q: Lastly, what do you hope to achieve with your photography in the nottoo-distant future; Do you have any exciting, upcoming plans that you would like to share with us? A: Lastly, I'd like to reach more people than I already do, to give them hope through my photography. I happen to show sadness, pain, fear in my photos but I'm not used to doing horror pictures and such... So my goal is to meet other people, be published if I'm lucky enough, and keep on having great experiences! I would love to develop more and more my new themes: Is photography an element? (I see element as water, fire...) for a upcoming exhibition, maybe next year! I should say I already have a lot of pictures ready for that, but unfortunately I haven’t found a place to exhibit where I am. I'm also finishing to write a novel (nothing to do with photography though) which I intend to publish at the end of the year. For one of my university courses I may also have to make (another) short film.

Interview: Apryl Stead of White Willow Photography Q: When did your love of photography first blossom? A: Seven years ago my husband and I had our first child and while on mat leave my husband bought me a camera. I had no idea how to use it, so I started photographing something different everyday. I am happy to say... "I haven't put it down since"  Q: What inspires your creativity the most? A: I see photos in everything! One piece of clothing or accessory can inspire a whole shoot for me. Also music and lyrics, quotes, movies, or just while I’m driving in my car and see a spot I think would make a cool location.

Q: Please tell us about the experience you had whilst capturing this stunning photo shoot? A: This shoot was very special for me. In this industry you will work with a lot of different professionals in many areas... this shoot contained professionals that were very dear friends as well. It made it such a joy to create and watch them do the same; the amount of pride and passion in this piece is overwhelming. A fun memory was actually before the shoot even started. The make up artist Missy and I went to scout the photo location which was actually going to be styled at the stylist’s own home. When we pulled up to the driveway the house looked like something out of practical magic. We walked into this amazingly cool house... So Jade Wolf!! She pointed to this beautiful room full of character and lined with wainscoting, and then stated.... "I think I will paint this Robins Egg Blue"!! LOL... anything for the shoot!

Q: What does an average day in your life look like?

That is actually a fun question, as both my husband and I are photographers and specialize in fashion, weddings and bodybuilding. One of the things I love most is that every time you shoot it is something completely new, it doesn't get boring!! We have 2 children and still shoot almost everyday! We love editing, as we feel that it is 1/2 the art, so we spend a lot of time playing in Photoshop. A fun quote I love the most: “My goal is to build a life I don't need a vacation from.” Q: Lastly, what do you hope to achieve with your photography in the nottoo-distant future; Do you have any exciting, upcoming news that you would like to share with us? A: I’ve recently made a move from the east coast of Canada to the west coast and now reside in the beautiful Okanagan Valley. This has actually been a huge adventure in itself. With this move has come some exciting goals for my personal development as an artist. I have created a bucket list of things I would love to experiment with and learn (as we are self-taught) and I have been attacking them 2 per month. So yes, triumph or fail, I think anyone watching will see some cool stuff going out into the universe lol. An Ode to Iceland The AW15 Collection from Book of Deer

Photography: Takao Komaru www.takaokomaru.com Clothing: Book of Deer www.bookofdeer.com Model: Maria Kovalets Make up: Wil Wu Assistant: Kirsten Ho

Interview: Eilidh Ho Q: When did you first begin your beautiful label, Book of Deer, and what initially motivated you to do so? A: I first started cooking up the idea for Book of Deer back when I was still a student. A year after graduating and having spent it working in a conventional high street design job, I decided to design a small collection and launch a website. My first collection was for Spring / Summer 2012 and I took inspiration from a Japanese fashion subculture called "Mori-kei". Q: How would you describe your label in just 3 words? A: Whimsical, illustrative and cute. Q: We love your latest AW15 collection, 'An Ode to Iceland'. What inspired your latest designs and is there a particular story behind this collection that you wished to convey? A: Iceland has always captured my imagination. Each hand-drawn print pays tribute to different aspects of Iceland that intrigue me, such as the Northern Lights, the Blue Lagoon, Iceland's geological landscape and its puffins. My interest in the fairy world is another reason why I have always felt drawn to Iceland and I feel an affinity with their respect of the "hidden world". I created the elf house embroidery as a nod to Iceland's rich folklore. Q: What does an average day in the life of Eilidh look like? A: An average day for me usually starts off with catching up on emails from the other side of the world. I go between London and Hong Kong and since we have international stockists and customers, there are always things to follow up on. Social media is an integral part of the brand as it is how I

communicate with my customers so I always spend some time on Instagram and blogs to keep up with what everyone is up to. The best working days are the days I get to devote solely to creating and designing. I start all my prints on paper so I love being able to spread out and draw. Q: Lastly, what do you hope to achieve with Book of Deer in the not-toodistant future; Do you have any exciting, upcoming plans that you would like to share? A: I hope to continue growing Book of Deer organically. I think of Book of Deer as a brand that can appeal to customers on a personal level, I know there are many girls out there who share my particular taste in style so I hope to create a brand that encompasses this world of eclectic cuteness. This year we got picked up by Anthropologie which is really exciting. We'll be releasing our summer collection in the new year and I hope to release more products alongside our main clothing line... See the full AW15 lookbook at bookofdeer.com/pages/autumn-winter-2015. You can also visit the Book of Deer website (bookofdeer.com) or Facebook page (facebook.com/bookofdeer).

Morning Night By Ebony Watson cargocollective.com/EbonyRed

And you'll miss the morning birds with the Passing of the sleep, the lonely slumber Of warm air that contemplatively floats above beds;

Feet away dreary sweetheart, stretch out your Cold fingertips

I'll reach for thee. Lock your galaxy pools to mine; let me know The moons behind your eyes

The Stars will crash into the Lifeless room, tumble over copper roof tops and The morning birds sing a tune of a hundred miles into The sun.

An Interview with Artist Holly Maguire

Q: When did you first discover your love of art? A: Growing up in a creative household (my mum is a ceramic artist) meant I was always encouraged to make art, and never really stopped. I always loved getting lost in the illustrations of my favourite books such as Brambley Hedge, the Moomins and anything by Korky Paul or Dr. Zeus. Q: Which three words would you use to describe your artistic style? A: Colourful, painterly & nostalgic Q: What inspires your creativity the most? A: Anything and everything! Social networking tools such as Instagram and Pinterest can be useful when looking for current trends but I tend to find that my creativity is most inspired by getting outside and exploring. This could be on a holiday where I experience new lifestyles and cultures, or going for a walk to my local supermarket where I can oogle at the food packaging. I try to keep my eyes open for inspiration as much as I can.

Q: Please describe what an average day in your life looks like? A: I'm a fairly early riser but tend to spend a decent portion of the morning procrastinating by downing tea, browsing blogs and reading social media. This is usually followed by the slightly more productive reading and answering of emails. I will generally start properly working at around 10am. This is my favourite part of the day, it's great to get away from the computer and get stuck into a new illustration. My afternoon usually involves a stroll to clear my head, maybe get a cup of tea and do some dog/people watching. I will usually then work for a few more hours (or a lot more if I have a tight deadline!) I like to spend my evenings watching films, hanging out with friends and posting on my packaging blog, Free Flavour.

Q: What do you hope the not-too-distant future holds for your art career; Do you have any exciting, upcoming plans that you would like to share with us? A: I have recently been in discussions about working on a children's book, which is one of my greatest ambitions so I have my fingers and toes crossed for that! Other projects I currently have on include a range of children's T-shirts which will be available next year and some prints for Betty & Dupree which are currently available in their shop.
