OUR STORY

The year is 1978, and The Whistler Real Estate Company has just opened its doors. At the time, Whistler Mountain has been officially open for 12 years, and the Village as we know it has only just begun being built. Now, fast-forward to the current year. As the longest serving real estate company in the community, we have not only maintained our position as the number one real estate brokerage in Whistler-Pemberton, but we are proud to have been an integral part of our town’s development. Despite the valleys and peaks of the ever-changing markets, through building booms, Olympic glory, economic downturns and through global-wide pandemics, The Whistler Real Estate Company continues to be a locally run company. In December 2020, we saw a change in ownership to Wendi Warm and her son, Phelan Regan. Wendi has been a part of the Whistler Real Estate family since 1994, and while she will continue to embrace the roots and fundamentals that this brokerage was built on, she is excited to move the company forward with new energy and technology as it continues its growth. With 37 full-time, professional realtors, we pride ourselves on local knowledge that will serve our clients, whether buying or selling. Our market knowledge and expertise, coupled with over 500 years of combined experience, will ensure your real estate transaction is seamless. Each member of our team has a deep knowledge and passion for their hometowns of Whistler and Pemberton, and it shows.

LEADING REAL ESTATE EXPERTS SINCE 1978

Mike Crane Professional photographer, former professional chef and mountain lifer Q: What was your life previous to becoming a full-time professional photographer? A: I’m an Ontario boy and moved out here for the mountains in the year 2000. I first worked at the Fairmont Chateau Whistler as a chef before taking that profession overseas for a few years. I returned to run the banquet kitchen at Four Seasons and then in 2006 I began working photography full time. Q: Where did your passion for photography come from? A: I was working as a chef in Yokohama, Japan when I picked up my first camera at a second hand store and just started shooting throughout my travels. When I returned to Whistler I started with a small booth at the Whistler Farmers Market selling prints. I sort of naturally transitioned to commercial, corporate and stock photography for a few years, but it’s actually come back to prints in the last few years. I now also donate a small percentage of my print sales to the Nature Conservancy of Canada. Q: What’s your favourite style to shoot? A: My favourite thing right now is to head into the backcountry, either ski touring or going on multi-day hikes into the Coast Mountains. I love all the seasons, because in Canada all the seasons are distinct with their own set of great activities. Q: You sell quite a few prints to new home buyers in Whistler decorating their homes, what sort of images do they look for? A: It’s a lot of winter mountain landscapes for sure. People like seeing a very small person in those landscapes to give a sense of scale to the mountains we’re living in. It’s those sorts of shoots I love being out there for, seeking out new angles in areas people haven’t really seen before.

Asher Jordan Alpine ski racer and technical slalom specialist

Q: What did your journey to professional ski racing look like? A: I grew up in North Vancouver right under Grouse Mountain and my parents were keen skiers, so we’d be up at Whistler pretty much every weekend. I worked my way up through the ski school and freeride programs before getting introduced to racing at age 11. It was a pretty quick switch, I was kind of on the fence because I was enjoying freeriding and having fun in the mountains. But I met a bunch of great guys at Whistler Mountain Ski Club (WMSC) and loved it. The older I got, the better I got at racing. I never looked back. Q: Who have you looked up to over the years that influenced your own skiing? A: Growing up skiing I really looked up to Shane McConkey, that guy was such a big hero of mine. When I started racing I started to follow Ted Ligety, he kind of changed the face of ski racing in the early 2010s. I love the way he skied and would kind of try to emulate his technique. Marcel Hirscher was another guy I would always love to watch on the World Cup circuit. Here at the (WMSC) I always looked up to the successful guys a couple of years older than me like Riley Seger and Cam Alexander, they were pretty dominant when I was still young and figuring it out. Now I ski with them and we’ve become good friends. Q: When you’re home from racing and it’s a powder day, what’s your go-to run? A: I haven’t had a good powder day at home in a while because I’m always training or travelling, but I’m hoping this is the year! But when I’m home for Christmas, my best day is lapping Peak Chair. I grew up skiing on Whistler Mountain and I love everything that zone offers. I have some pretty good debates with my buddies about it when we hit the Longhorn patio afterwards.

LOCAL PROFILES

LEADING REAL ESTATE EXPERTS SINCE 1978

Doctor Karin Kausky Medical professional, TEDx Speaker and Whistler’s Citizen of the Year Q: How did you get your start in Whistler’s healthcare field? A: I drove across the country with a girlfriend in 1993 to spend the winter skiing. Towards the end of the season, we were riding up the chairlift chatting with each other about where we were going to travel next. My friend needed to return to Toronto for a locum but I was trying to convince her to travel to India with me. The man next to us on the chairlift asked “Locum? Are you two family doctors?” He was a local doctor himself and we soon had an invitation to work our locum here in Whistler. He even gave us use of his house and car while he was away. That’s how I ended up in Whistler. Q: What led you to stay for all these years? A: I don’t recall a particular decision point to stay, it was just sort of an extended passive process of not leaving. It’s a beautiful place here and great to ski and mountain bike, but I think it’s the people and the community that made me want to keep living here. It’s also a really fun, interesting and different place to practice medicine. It’s a really supportive, kind, hardworking medical community. There are so many people who have the attitude of “never say no” when asked for help. Q: What does it mean to be named Whistler’s Citizen of the Year for 2021? A: It’s a massive honour, especially to be awarded this among so many other exceptional Whistler nominees. I think in some ways it reflects the amazing community response we had through covid. Our response was genuinely one of the most collaborative efforts I’ve ever seen in healthcare. There were so many people, from healthcare providers to social service providers to the municipality to the local non-profits, all those people working together dramatically changed the experience for people who came into contact with covid, and all for the better. I was recently invited to do a TED talk on it, I just find it to be the most inspiring thing. Q: What’s your hope for Whistler as a community over the next few decades? A: My hope is that whatever direction we end up moving in aligns with the shared values that I think we all have. The environment, the outdoors, and the people of our community.

Ed & Natasha Tatton

Bread makers, vegans, entrepreneurs Q: When did you realize you had a passion for sourdough? Ed: I’ve worked as a chef since I was 13 and have always worked in kitchens and love making all my food from scratch. I first started making sourdough around 14 years ago, but the passion for it really cranked up a notch when I began baking bread in-house for Alta Bistro. Word about this bread spread amongst our friendship circles and before long I needed to rent kitchen space from Alta Bistro during the day to keep up with the demand. I was soon averaging 150 loaves a week on top of my chef job and everyone was telling us to open a bakery. So we did. Q: Many small businesses faced challenges over the last two years, especially in Whistler. How did you navigate the worst months of the pandemic as a new small business? Natasha: We’d had a very successful first year after opening in March of 2019. We were a week away from our first birthday when the pandemic struck. We had just hired some really great people and we seemed unstoppable, then everything shut down and we had to lay off all our staff. But our customers kept asking for bread, so we set up an online shop with designated pickup times and we’d bake one day a week. The orders came flying in, and people were lining up around the corner. Q: How do you think BRED fits into the Whistler Community? Natasha: When indoor dining was shut down during COVID we’d have long lineups for people picking up their bread. People weren’t supposed to be socializing, but they would see people they knew in the lineup and were able to socialize from a safe distance. One guy wrote us a Google review that coming to pick up his bread every week helped keep his mental health in check. It was something he could look forward to, it was an essential reason to leave the house and it gave him an opportunity to talk to people. Despite all the constraints we’ve had, it really feels like a connected community around the bakery.

WHISTLER SOUTH Where It All Began

While Whistler Village is the main hub for the majority of the resort’s amenities, Creekside is where this town entered the history books. It’s where the lifts first spun on Whistler Mountain in 1966 with hopes to secure the Winter Olympic Games. In 1989, local ski racer Rob Boyd crossed the finish line at the bottom of Dave Murray Downhill to become the first Canadian to win gold at a World Cup Downhill race on home soil. When the Olympics did arrive in 2010, Creekside base (in particular Dusty’s Bar) was where spectators and fans celebrated long into the night. The neighborhoods of Whistler South stretch from Nordic (just south of Whistler Village) to the southernmost neighborhoods of Cheakamus Crossing and Function Junction. The choice of homes is equally diverse; cozy condos to stylish chalets, rustic cabins to spacious townhomes and even a gondola-accessed luxury home community! The six-person Creekside Gondola is one of the main arteries to access Whistler Mountain during ski season and as well as the Whistler Mountain Bike Park during the summer months. The base area is home to cafes, bakeries, a fully-stocked grocery store and a range of boutique retail shops. Two of Whistler’s highest-rated restaurants; Rimrock Cafe and Red Door Bistro are within minutes’ walk of Creekside base, as are green space parks on the shores of Alpha Lake and Nita Lake. A few minutes’ south on the highway and you can call into craft breweries, art studios and more specialty shops in Function Junction.

I lived in Nordic Estates for 27 years and I love this location. We have the Valley Trail just over the pedestrian overpass taking us to the Alta Lake and the Valley Trail. We are situated between Creekside and the Village making it easy access to shopping ,biking trails, skiing and golfing all within minutes. – Lynne

There are many reasons why this is one of the fastest-growing areas of Whistler, but the convenience and amenities have always been hard to beat. Southsiders grow prouder of their little slice of Whistler every year. WHISTLERREALESTATE.CA

WHISTLER CENTRAL The Best of Both Worlds

Whistler was first settled in 1914 by Alex and Myrtle Phillip, who together opened the Rainbow Lodge Fishing Resort on the shores of Alta Lake. Guests would arrive every summer by railway and be greeted with views of what would many years later become the separate ski resorts of Whistler and Blackcomb. Today, it is still one of the most desirable places to live in the Whistler valley. A short distance from the Village, the quiet streets and cul-de-sacs of Whistler Central are now home to many local families and second homeowners. The convenience of the Village is a few minutes’ drive or a bike ride away, with lakes, parks and community sports fields even closer. One of Whistler Central’s most treasured assets is the Valley Trail, a paved network for walkers, runners, cyclists, skaters and cross country skiers. It links the neighborhoods to the Village and the entire Whistler Valley, encircles the Whistler Golf Course and provides quick access to four different parks on the shores of Alta Lake. Whistler Central allows non-motorised transportation to almost every amenity while offering the breathing space one desires when escaping into the mountains. Much of the inventory is detached houses, ranging from modest log homes to expansive chalets and waterfront properties on the shores of Alta Lake. Vacant lots are also available, allowing buyers to build a dream home in their own vision. A secluded retreat that’s never far from the action, Whistler Central really does offer the best of both worlds.

I have lived in the Whistler Cay neighborhood for the last 17 years and love it! My husband and I have built 2 homes in the area and although there are lots of great neighborhoods in Whistler, we couldn’t imagine living anywhere else. We love the convenience being so close to the village, as well the trails, beaches and golf course are literally just out our door. My daughter walks or bikes to the school up the street, making life convenient when you have a busy career! – Marika 604.932.5538

WHISTLER’S HISTORY

Whistler may be known today as a destination for snow-lovers, mountain bikers, hikers and more, but the first resort visitors to the area came not to ski on Whistler Mountain, but to fish at Alta Lake. The Skwxwú7mesh Nation and L’il’wat7úl Nation have been the ancestral stewards of these lands since time immemorial. As well as seasonal camps in the area now known as Whistler, for many years Spo7ez was a shared village between the Skwxwú7mesh Nation and L’il’wat7úl Nation, where people from both nations came together to trade. Spo7ez was located in what is today called the Callaghan Valley, at the junction of Rubble Creek and the Cheakamus River. According to oral histories, Spo7ez was destroyed by a landslide in the mid-1800s. The first recorded non-indigenous visitors to the Whistler Valley were William Downie and Joseph Mackay. Downie and Mackay, as well as three Lil’wat guides and four assistants, had been commissioned by the colonial government in 1858 to try to find a better coastal access route to the booming gold mines of the BC interior.

In the 1880s, European settlers began to claim land and build in the area now known as Whistler. The Pemberton Trail had been completed, connecting Howe Sound through Pemberton and on to Lillooet. At this time, the area was called Summit Lake but as the community got bigger it was renamed Alta Lake to avoid confusion with other Summit Lakes in the province. John Millar, a Polish immigrant, came to Alta Lake by way of Texas and built a stopping house at the junction of the Pemberton Trail and a creek today called Millar’s Creek. In 1911, Millar met Alex and Myrtle Philip during a trip to sell furs in Vancouver. He invited the Philips to come visit Alta Lake and the Philips, who had moved to the west coast from Maine with dreams of opening a fishing lodge and resort, quickly took him up on his offer. The journey took three days, beginning with a steamship to Squamish followed by a two-day hike up the rough Pemberton Trail with rented pack horses. Learn more about Whistler’s resort history at the Whistler Museum, located behind the Whistler Public Library. All photos are part of the Philip Collection.

WHISTLER MUSEUM

Panorama view of Rainbow Lodge property, 1930s.

In 1913, the Philips purchased ten acres on the west shore of Alta Lake for $700 and, with help from Myrtle’s family the Tapleys, began clearing the property and constructing Rainbow Lodge. They were ready to open for business in 1914, conveniently the same year that the Pacific Great Eastern Railway reached Alta Lake and shortened the three-day journey to one. This new accessibility, combined with attentive hospitality, a spectacular setting, and excellent fishing, allowed the Philips to expand Rainbow Lodge with cabins and outbuildings until it could accommodate 100 people. By the 1930s it was considered the most popular tourist resort west of Banff. As Rainbow Lodge grew, so did the community around Alta Lake. Other lodges and cabins were built around Whistler’s lakes to serve the booming summer tourist industry. Logging was also profitable and employed local residents, with a few sizable mills and lumber operations including Parkhurst Mill on Green Lake and the Rainbow Lumber Company on Alta Lake. The Philips operated Rainbow Lodge until 1948, when they sold it to Alec and Audrey Greenwood. The Greenwoods continued to operate the lodge, but business slowed through the 1950s as automobiles and road trips became more popular (until 1965, Alta Lake was only accessible by car using very rough logging roads). Much of Rainbow Lodge burnt down in 1977 and the site is now Rainbow Park, where three cabins from the original Rainbow Lodge can still be found. Alex and Myrtle Philip stayed at Alta Lake after their retirement and had a chance to witness major changes to the valley, including the building of a highway and power station, the opening of Whistler Mountain in 1966, the creation of the Resort Municipality of Whistler in 1975, the building of the Whistler Village, and Blackcomb Mountain’s first season in 1980/81.

WHISTLER FACTS

The Resort Municipality of Whistler was the first resort municipality in Canada. Until 1965, Alta Lake was only accessible by car along very rough logging roads. The journey from Vancouver to Whistler took three days in 1911. In 1913, ten acres of lakeside property cost only $700. The Barnfield family ran a dairy on the east shore of Alta Lake in the 1920s and delivered milk to lodges and cabins by canoe. Before hosting the 2010 Winter Olympic Games, Whistler Mountain was involved in five unsuccessful bids to host the Games - 1968, 1972, 1976, 1980 & 1988.

LEADING REAL ESTATE EXPERTS SINCE 1978

Ariel Beks

Florist, forager, figure skater

Q: What has kept you in the Sea to Sky for so much of your life? A: I grew up in Whistler and went to school there. I was a figure skater for my whole childhood and would ski with my family and friends with the occasional powder day off school. Later I travelled and did a small stint in Colorado as I have dual citizenship with the US. But I found Whistler isn’t like anywhere else. There’s a lot of culture and fun activities to do, but it also has that small town vibe. Q: What was your journey with flowers and making that into a career? A: My grandmother had a beautiful garden growing up which I always admired and I always had potted flowers on my patio where I lived in Whistler. I got a job working for a farmer florist in Pemberton and at that point I knew that this is what I wanted to do forever. My husband is a farmer in Pemberton and the landowners are kind enough to let me grow flowers on a quarter acre plot. Q: Where do you get creatively inspired for all your flower designs and arrangements? A: Mostly in nature itself. I look at how the flowers and foliage grow naturally in the landscape and try to emulate that. My style isn’t too formal or fussy, there’s lots of movement with the flowers. I forage a lot of seasonal flowers and plants as well to complement that. Pemberton generally brings more relaxed couples looking for that west coast feeling, they’re not getting married in a ballroom in Downtown Vancouver. The photo backdrops here are so dramatic that you don’t want to take away from that, you want to accentuate it. Q: What do you love most about living in Pemberton? A: Pemberton has a very community-like feel. Even though it’s grown a lot, it still feels like a small community where you run into people you know at the grocery store. We’ve great events like the Slow Food Cycle which lets thousands of people experience the farms up through the Pemberton Meadows. You’re still close enough to Whistler to enjoy its recreation, but I think the biggest thing for me is having the space to grow. Not only flowers, but I love growing our own food as well.

Will Miller Business Manager and Beer Farmer

Q: You were born into a farming family that stretches back almost 130 years. What changes have you seen during your time? A: My four brothers and I are the fourth generation here on the Miller farm and we’ll still work on the farm together at some point, depending on the season. Pemberton has changed so much, even in the last couple of years. When we were growing up there were maybe 500 people living here. Our experience growing was pretty similar to our parents, we raised cattle and grew potatoes which would feed us year-round. That’s been a common thread. My parents Brenda and Bruce have always been creative and thinking outside of the box, in the 90s they switched our farm to certified organic and were one of the first in the area to do that. Q: What makes Beer Farmers distinct from the other small-scale craft breweries in BC? A: We compare ourselves more to the type of experience you would have at a winery, where people can visit a venue where everything is grown on-site. We’re still a working, functioning farm and we still have things like potatoes and sheep, we don’t try to fancy it up too much. I think that’s refreshing for people, they see how authentic it is. We have a really nice slice of the world out here. People will come in to enjoy the tasting room and see our neighbour’s tractor parked out front, that’s fun for us to share with people. Q: Your patio attracts people from quite long distances away by car by bike and even paragliders landing from their flights. What is it about that spot? A: Sometimes further is better. People enjoy adventures and getting to a destination. Pemberton is pretty well known for its activities, so people are looking for more things to do and places to stop. Folks will drive two and a half hours to go on a hike, they’re definitely going to do that for a beer in a beautiful setting. When my grandpa built the barn where we brew and serve the beer now, he wasn’t thinking about the views of Mount Currie. The location where it was is where it had to be. We weren’t going to build a brand new barn in some other location that wasn’t deeply connected to our farm.

WHISTLER VILLAGE / BENCHLANDS World-Class Resort Atmosphere at Your Door

If you’re looking for the quintessential Whistler experience, the Village is where you’ll find it! Wandering through the pedestrian-only Village Stroll you can’t help but feel the electricity in the air as people click off their skis and celebrate their day in Whistler’s renowned aprés scene. This is the central hub for mountain access, adventure activities, shopping at retailers of all kinds and dining at one of the dozens of world class restaurants. All against the dramatic backdrop of the towering Coast Mountains. The Upper Village at Blackomb’s base has its own 10-person gondola (the highest uphill capacity lift in North America) with a buzzing scene of it’s own. Three craft beer taprooms, unique cafes and restaurants and during the summer months, Whistler’s very own Farmer’s Market. The streets of the Benchlands neighbourhood wind up the lower slopes of Blackcomb Mountain with a select few properties offering genuine ski in, ski out convenience. Whistler Village has almost anything you are looking for within walking distance whether it’s hitting the slopes, going golfing, a bike ride through the extensive trail network or quiet riverside walk followed by a relaxing afternoon at the spa. With an animated village vibe at your doorstep, there is never any shortage of entertainment, activity and indulgence in Whistler Village.

After several years of driving to Whistler on the weekends, I decided to buy an investment property near Marketplace. I love knowing that when I arrive I can park my car underground all weekend and enjoy a stressfree visit. I’m a few minutes’ walk to everything I need (ten, if I run into friends), and a soak in the complexes hot tub at the end of the day is a great way to unwind after a long day on the mountain! – Megan 604.932.5538

WHISTLER NORTH Where the Locals Love to Live

A few minutes’ drive north of the Village and it soon becomes apparent why so many homeowners chose to settle in this part of the Whistler Valley. Quiet streets wind their way up the mountainside and along the shores of the glacier-fed Green Lake. The homes themselves boast some of the most picturesque vistas in the Sea to Sky Corridor, the peaks of Whistler, Blackcomb and Wedge mountains towering above the valley floor and bathing in an orange alpenglow in the evenings. But Whistler North has plenty of amenities in close proximity as well with Whistler’s only sport centre and high school, a world-class golf course, unrivalled access to hiking and biking trails and winter activities such as snowshoeing and cross-country skiing. The Alpine Meadows subdivision in Whistler North has been voted Whistler’s “Best Neighbourhood” in Pique Newsmagazine for over a decade. Whistler North gives homeowners the gift of tranquility of life in the mountains coupled with quick access to renowned, four-season resort amenities. With a host of home options to choose from, there’s a place for you and your family on Whistler’s northside.

We chose to live in Alpine Meadows almost 30 years ago. It is a great family neighbourhood with Meadow Park Rec Centre close by and one of the elementary schools a short bike ride away. Most of all, we wanted the kids to be able to get to school on their own once at Whistler Secondary School. The neighbourhood has only gotten better over the years! – Jill

Levi Nelson

Contemporary artist and cultural traverser

Q: You’re a graduate from Emily Carr University of Art + Design and were accepted into a master’s program at Columbia. How have these institutions developed you as an artist? A: Through Emily Carr University of Art + Design in Vancouver and onto Columbia University School of the Arts in New York, I feel I have excelled at developing a personal and unique narrative in the lexicon of painting and mixed media. Where Emily Carr laid the groundwork in helping me to realize and yield a practice in which I could turn into a promising art profession; Columbia University has positioned me in a place where I can look at my practice thus far and explore and question it through a deeper investigation, to crack open new meaning in the work that I am currently on the verge of producing. Q: The Audain Art Museum has one of the most renowned collections of BC artists in Canada, including Indigenous art. Has having your work there featured a breakthrough moment? A: Yes definitely! The Audain Art Museum has been quite generous and supportive in my emerging position as an artist in BC. I am particularly grateful to Dr. Curtis Collins whom I called out of the blue one day to ask if they would be interested in purchasing some of my paintings for their collection. Impressed and appreciative of this move—although they did not acquire the paintings I was offering—Dr. Collins suggested that I enter the Audain Art Museum’s Emerging Artist Program. This grew into a relationship since 2019, which led to Curtis coming to my first solo exhibition After the Blast: The Art of Levi Nelson at the Maury Young Arts Centre curated by Charmaine Carpenter, where he encountered my painting Nations in an Urban Landscape (2019) and immediately sought to have it acquired by the Audain Foundation for their permanent collection. This gave me the confidence to believe that I could make a name for myself and have a profession as a contemporary Indigenous artist. I am still so incredibly grateful for the doors this has opened for me. Q: How would you describe your art style? A: To quote Picasso loosely, “style only comes after you’re dead, only then can they truly define what you do.” But my work can best be described as Contemporary Indigenous Art, where I fuse ideas addressing Indigeneity and Pop Culture imagery with Traditional Indigenous motif and iconography—but through my new mind.

Shauna Mishaw Hardy Whistler Film Festival Founder, event planner, Halloween proponent Q: What brought you to Whistler? A: I skied a powder weekend during a big snowstorm in November, 1990 and moved to town a couple of weeks later. I was a skier first and foremost.

Q: What made you want to start the Whistler Film Festival? A: There weren’t really any big events here in 2001, it was like dancing on tables at apres was considered a cultural event. But there was an appetite building for cultural programming, and I think the timing was right. When we won the bid for (Vancouver 2010) Winter Olympics in 2003, that ignited a cultural mandate where a lot of organizations were able to build capacity, including the Whistler Film Festival. Q: What neighborhood do you live in and what do you love about it? A: I live in Tapleys and I love it for so many reasons. It’s flat, I’m from Alberta so I like that. But I can also get from my front door to the top of the mountain in about 27 minutes. In the summer I can ride my bike and go swimming in the lake in about 10 minutes. We also do the big Tapleys Farm Halloween celebration here every year for the kids which I help organize. Q: What sort of legacy do you hope to leave with the WFF? A: It’s so much more than an event now. We have 11 talent development programs with up to 80 domestic artists that go through the program every year. We’ve got a national footprint with these programs. We successfully transitioned the festival to virtual programming during covid and now we’re shifting into a hybrid model. We have thousands of Canadian and International filmmakers, artists and creators that have gone through these programs and entered their films here. I hope these talent programs expand and the vision is to one day have an institute.

PEMBERTON

Pemberton offers something that no other community I know does. An easy going, slow paced life only two hours from a major city. It has rural charm with access to world-class dining and experiences, as well as the ability to grow the same high quality produce in your back yard that is sought out all over the region by high end chef’s and foodies. – Danielle

Frontier for Adventure

Thirty minutes’ drive north of Whistler lies the Village of Pemberton, brimming with rural charm and pioneer character. Home for millenia by the indigenous Lílwat Nation, Pemberton was first settled by Europeans in the late 19th Century for its rich and fertile farmlands. Pemberton retains much of its frontier identity with farming and agriculture playing a major economic role in the town’s gastronomy scene. With a relatively short commute to Whistler, Pemberton combines more affordable rural living while maintaining resort proximity. The majesty of Mount Currie is unmissable from when you first enter the valley and is visible from almost anywhere in the town or surrounding districts. Pemberton boasts its own access to limitless recreation. The summer features mountain bike trails, a skate park, two golf courses, horseback riding ranches, fishing in the lakes and rivers, hiking in nearby provincial parks and even paragliding over the Pemberton Meadows. The winter boasts some of the best snowmobiling, ski touring and heli skiing in British Columbia. Pemberton locals will argue that their town is the hub for outdoor adventure in the region. All this adventure is complemented by a flourishing food and beverage scene. Sourcing produce and meats from local farms has become a signature of Pemberton restaurants, exemplified by the annual two-wheeled farm tour, the Slow Food Cycle. Whether it’s the wide open spaces or rural village charm, Pemberton has an unmistakable draw for growing families in the Sea to Sky. Choose between a brand new townhome, a detached house ripe for renovation or a vacant lot to build the ultimate dream home, Pemberton is quickly gaining a reputation as one of the most desirable communities in southwest British Columbia.
