YORKSHIRE LOFT LADDERS, QUALITY YOU CAN TRUST!

These days most homeowners suffer from a lack of storage space. So many precious items that need to be kept – but where to store it all? That’s where Yorkshire Loft Ladders come in. The company, based locally, offers homeowners the opportunity to maximise their storage space with a loft ladder, 50 sq ft of boarding and a light all fully fitted in less than a day from just £277 + VAT. But it’s not just the affordability of the package the company offers that makes Yorkshire Loft Ladders stand out as manager Mark Hodson explains:

‘Our watchwords are Quality, Integrity and Value. Quality in the materials that we use for all our installations and the fact that all our loft packages are fitted by time served tradesmen so our customers are assured of the best job. Integrity in that we will turn up at the time we say and make sure the house is spotless when we leave, and Value in that we offer our services at a price people can afford.

Our business relies on referrals and we got a huge amount of our calls from people who have been referred to us by our existing customers - that simply wouldn’t happen if we didn’t adhere to our overriding principles.

At the end of the day the old adage that happy customers lead to more happy customers is true and we work hard to make that happen for every installation we carry out!’ So, if you want to make use of your loft space, however big or small, call Mark on 0800 612 8359 and he’ll be happy to pop round and give you a no obligation quote so you too can make use of your loft!

FIREWORKS AND OTHER SCARY SITUATIONS!

With all the festivities of Halloween, Bonfire night, Christmas and New Year we have lots to be celebrating in the coming months! With these celebrations often comes fireworks, loud music, extra people around the house and lots of unusual costumes, which can all be very confusing and a little scary for our pets. Although we advise you get your pets used to all of these things when they are young this is not always possible leaving us to try and calm a very stressed and upset pet! It is said that nearly half the dogs in the UK are scared of fireworks and similar noises so what can we do to alleviate this stress? Firstly it is recommended that when you first get your pet you start to get them socialised and familiar with an array of people, animals, vehicles and noises. It is possible to get firework videos online and play them in the background when your pet is relaxed around the house. This can help to desensitise them when this time of year rolls around. Start with the video playing quietly and gradually start to turn it up as your pet seems to get used to it. If you do not have online access there are a variety of noise CDs that can be purchased.

Never take your dog to a fireworks display to try and get them used to them – it is highly likely this will do more harm than good and you will be left with a more scared dog than ever. Our pets like to have a safe place or den they can retreat to, whether you just put a blanket over their usual dog crate or find a cardboard box to make into a little haven for them. Some pets will want to hide under your bed or behind the sofa, if this is where they feel safe then let them stay there if it is safe to do so, maybe offer them some treats and water while they hide and sit and talk to them to reassure them. Although some pets like to hide others may seek safety with their owner, do not ignore this behaviour, let them settle with you or hide their head in your armpit if that is what makes them feel safe. Punishing this behaviour or telling them off may make them feel a lot worse about the situation.

On nights that we know these celebrations are scheduled it is recommended you walk your dogs before dark as this hopefully means there is less chance of fireworks going off yet. Also once home close the 98

curtains and turn on the TV or radio but maybe have it a little louder than you would usually. Try to act normal around the house and reward your pets calm behaviour.

Alongside these ideas you can try herbal and medical remedies to help alleviate your pets stress depending how severely they are effected. Please speak to a member of your veterinary team to see what they have to offer for your pet. Please always seek the advice of your vet before buying non-prescription medicines online especially if your pet has other medical conditions. A lot of the herbal remedies such as sprays, capsules and diffusers need time to kick in so it is best to start looking into these now so your pet feels the full effect come the firework season.

Please remember here at The Beck Veterinary Practice we provide 24/7 emergency veterinary cover please call us on 01947 820333 if you have any worries at all with your pets.
