This part of the Northumberland coastline is a designated area of outstanding natural beauty, with the golf course regarded as one of the finest in the North East of England.

Coastal Course of the Year 2019

The inherent natural beauty of the course, given its coastline setting, combined with the challenges of the 6460-yard long course, may in itself be enough to earn recognition from Your Golfer Magazine with the UK Coastal Course of the Year award. But Alnmouth Golf Club has much more to offer, making for a wonderful golfing experience for visitors, golfing breaks and golfing societies alike. Easily accessed just half a mile north of the village of Alnmouth and just ten minutes from the main A1 link road, visitors soon find themselves embraced by the splendours of Alnmouth Golf Club, Foxton Hall, or ‘Foxton’ as it is more generally, and affectionately known. Despite its stunning coastal location, it has parkland turf and a reputation for the fine quality of greens and superb presentation, creating the unique feel for a golf course that is equally playable in the winter months as it is at the height of the golfing season. The current course, designed and created in 1930 by famous golf architect H.S. Colt, provides a testing and enjoyable challenge to this day, using his trademark steep slopes and run-off areas to protect the greens. The course is a fine test of golf, 6460-yards long, par 71 for the men from the White Tees, 6044 par 69 from the Yellow Tees, and 5773 yards par 74 for the ladies. Having hosted National and County events, its subtle difficulties are offset by the wonderful variety of scenery, ranging from seashore to headland, with a breath-taking, panoramic view from the 15th green over many miles of the Northumberland coastline. Whilst taking on the fairways, visitors will be able to see the grand and inspiring backdrop of Foxton Hall, which can be seen from many of the holes and is the home of the club’s stylish clubhouse. Foxton Hall was one of the historic residences of the local Percy family in the early 1900's, when it was offered by the Duke of Northumberland, the then captain of the club, as a clubhouse for a new proposed golf course in 1929. The hall is a collection of rambling buildings, but the clubhouse occupies the main building which oozes with character and the traditions of the game of golf.

With a friendly clubhouse atmosphere providing a warm welcome to all, the building features two bars, a lounge and superbly appointed dining room. It is the ideal place to relax with a drink or bite to eat, combining an intimate, relaxed atmosphere with excellent service from the clubhouse staff to ensure that all visitors enjoy a truly unique and memorable experience. A special feature of Foxton is the 26-bedroom Dormy House, upholding a sadly disappearing but uniquely British tradition of Dormy House accommodation. Set on the first floor of the clubhouse and offering Visit England 3-star rated accommodation, golf societies and other guests visiting Northumberland can take advantage of on-course single or twin accommodation with en-suite facilities. There are 12 twin-bedded rooms and 2 single rooms, all furnished to high standards and offering fine views overlooking the course, rose garden or the Northumberland coastline, depending on the room. Tee times are usually arranged, morning and afternoon, so suit mealtimes, and guests are welcome to use the various facilities in the clubhouse and course. Foxton Hall also provides the perfect base to enjoy the many delights of the magnificent Northumberland coastline. Guests are welcomed to Alnmouth throughout the season, weekdays and weekends, subject to the course being available. Over the years, it has been appreciated by scores of golfers, many of whom make it their priority to return each year for a golfing break. Packages include either a 3 course or 2 course dinner, bed and full English Breakfast with two rounds of golf, with details on the website at www.alnmouthgolfclub. com. Back on the course, visitors have access to the best practice facilities in Northumberland. These include a full driving range facility with ball dispenser, with play from the latest high-spec artificial turf or grassed areas. There is also a dedicated short game practice area with a full USGA specification green and practice bunkers. The practice area is completed by a 4 Hole Short Course with holes ranging from 60 yards. Around the clubhouse, there is a putting green adjacent to the Rose Garden near the 18th Green, at the 1st Tee, and a practice chipping green adjacent to the 7th Tee box near the clubhouse. There are also two warm-up practice nets close to the 1st Tee near to the visitor car park.
