ituated in Ganton in the Vale of Pickering between York and Scarborough, the award-winning, Ganton Golf Club is arguably one of Britain’s very best inland golf courses and over the years, has been selected to host many amateur and professional golf tournaments.
In fact, Ganton Golf Club is privileged to be one of only three golf clubs in Yorkshire to have hosted the Ryder Cup; 1949 Ganton Golf Club (22), 1929 Moortown Golf Club (66) and 1957 Lindrick Golf Club (90). All three golf clubs feature in the top 100 golf courses of Great Britain & Ireland and can be combined together in a wonderful stay and play deal, to offer the Ryder Cup three-day experience which can be booked in association with White Rose Golf Breaks. Although, golf was first played in Ganton in the summer of 1891. The course was laid out by St Andrews’ Tom Chisolm who had assistance from Robert Bird, the club’s first professional and head green keeper.
Today’s Ganton The par 73 Ganton golf course, which measures 6,997 yards from the championship, white tees features deep and prolific bunkers, savage rough and intimidating gorse which make an enjoyable yet challenging round for even the most accomplished of golfers. The practice facilities at Ganton Golf Club are, as one would expect, second to none. The club encompasses two covered practice bays that allow lessons to be given whatever the weather. Aside from this, the club is also home to a superb short game area for chipping, pitching and putting as well as a fast and true putting green synonymous with the championship golf course.

A proud history
The Thirsk Room boasts views across the putting green and features large patio doors leading to an outdoor terrace – perfect for al fresco eating and drinking. Here, visitors will also find photographs and original memorabilia of the clubs decorated golfing heritage. The clubhouse is also home to the Vardon and Rudgard rooms which have spacious lounge areas ideal for relaxing pre or post round. The Ganton clubhouse is also home to the excellent Professional shop which stocks the latest equipment, clothing and accessories from some of the game’s leading brands. Led by Head PGA Professional, Gary Brown; the shop’s PGA team offer tuition and advice on everything from the golf swing to the latest fashions and trends out on the fairways.

Ganton Golf Club’s Vardon House is now open. The dormy house is situated adjacent to the clubhouse and offers en suite accommodation to up to 8 golfers, this new addition is proving popular with those discerning golfers wishing to fully immerse themselves in the rich traditions of Ganton Golf Cub.
