The award-winning, Prestwick St Nicholas Golf Club
Congratulations...... Your Golfer Magazine has recently announced their ‘South West of Scotland Golf Club of the Year for 2018’ as Prestwick St Nicholas in Ayrshire. The award recognition pays testament to the Club’s excellent golf course, first class facilities and fine Scottish hospitality.
Location, location, location… The west coast of Scotland celebrates its glorious past with an eye clearly on the future. In 1860, the Open first came to the west coast of Scotland, when it was played over the Prestwick Links. Since this time, the competition has become the greatest golfing event in the world with Ayrshire firmly at its heart. Ayrshire and the surrounding terrain encompasses arguably the finest collection of links golf courses in the world and with quality accommodation, fine dining, heritage and charisma on its doorstep offers a truly unique experience.
Boasting spectacular views over the Firth of Clyde, the great facilities on offer in the region are coupled with the region’s close proximity to the centre of Glasgow where you can choose from a host of accommodation and entertainment providers. Visiting groups are assured of a hugely enjoyable experience at some of the Ayrshire’s multi course venues and excellent stay and play resorts which combine excellent links and parkland golf courses. Founded in 1851, Prestwick St Nicholas Golf Club is recognised as the 26th oldest golf club in the world. Old Tom Morris, winner of four Open Championships was a founding, honorary member of the golf club and very much, the driving force behind the formation of the Prestwick St Nicholas Golf Club.
The par 69 golf course, which measures 6, 044 yards from the championship tees boasts spectacular sea views from every hole whilst offering a truly memorable experience of links golf whatever the handicap.
Snacks and Golfers Fare are available as well as a full menu. The Club’s catering team offer special menus available for more formal occasions whilst the extensive catering options available to visiting society groups is second to none.
The utmost in comfort…
The ‘Tom Morris Room’, named to commemorate the Club’s links to Old Tom Morris, proudly displays the golf club’s Honours Boards as well as historical artefacts related to the Club’s long and much decorated history. The view from the room looks straight up the first hole whilst other windows look over the putting green to the sea and Arran beyond.
Prestwick St Nicholas’ splendid clubhouse sits yards from the shoreline. Opened on Christmas Eve in 1892, the beautifully-appointed, villa style clubhouse is set on the seaward side of the course overlooking Prestwick Bay.
The Club and course moved to its current location in 1892 - a prime position on the shores of the Firth of Clyde.
The clubhouse has been developed and modified over the years, with the latest addition a Sun Lounge extension in 1998 which takes full advantage of the views of the Isle of Arran and Alisa Craig and the wonderful sunsets.
With true, undulating greens and stands of grass testing the skills of players of all abilities, the finely manicured fairways of Prestwick St Nicholas Golf Club offer year-round golf on a firm, generally frost free terrain - the course is playable when many others are not.
The ground floor features the Club’s comfortable main lounges, a spacious, well-stocked bar which is manned every day by attentive staff with an eye for detail and the superb Prestwick St Nicholas restaurant serving fine cuisine to suit all palates and pockets.
The Prestwick St Nicholas Pro Shop is led by Head PGA Professional, Gareth Hardy. Originally from South Africa, Gareth undertook his PGA training at The Westin Turnberry. Gareth and his friendly, dedicated team are on hand to assist members and visitors with everything from tee bookings, expert tuition and advice as well as recommending equipment, clothing and accessories from some of the game’s leading manufacturers.
Well worth a visit… Prestwick St Nicholas Golf Club welcome visitors, societies and groups of golfers throughout the year. Many visitors return year-after-year to take on the fantastic coastal links golf course and enjoy its facilities. The Club offers flexibility to tailor society packages to suit the requirements and budgets of the visiting party. Whilst the Club’s professional team are always on hand to ensure the smooth running of the day, leaving organisers free to experience the wonder and charm that the excellent Prestwick St Nicholas Golf Club has to offer.
