Southern Costa Blanca
The Costa Blanca which is affectionately known as the ‘White Coast’ is one of Spain’s most popular tourist destinations. Stretching 200 kilometres along the Mediterranean coast, the destinations of Costa Blanca are varied and diverse ranging from bustling cosmopolitan resorts to rural areas by the sea. The Costa Blanca region was strategically important for many settlers including the Phoenicians, Greeks and Romans. The influence of Moorish and Roman occupations are present in the villages, monuments and cultural attractions of today’s Costa Blanca. Pilar de la Horadada, which is the southernmost town on the Costa Blanca, has everything to enjoy, sea, mountain and sun. A privileged spot on the shores of the Mediterranean Sea, with fabulous, blue-flag beaches average temperaturas of 18ºC, mild breezes and sunshine for more than 320 days a year. The town has modern infrastructures plus recreational and sports facilities that make it posible for its inhabitants and visitors to enjoy a great quality of life during their time in the area.
There are four beachside urbanizations that come under the Pilar de la Horadada municipality, El Mojón, Torre de la Horadada, with its famous Watch Tower, Riomar and Mil Palmeras. These areas are growing at an enormous rate, with new residential property developments that are very popular with all nationalities, including the Spanish. Just to the north, adjoining Mil Palmeras is Dehesa de Campoamor, an older development, which comes under Orihuela Costa. Both Campoamor and Torre de la Horadada have there own marina facilities for water sport lovers and accesible points where recreational craft can moor to enable easy refueling and provisioning. There are sailing clubs within the harbours for those who wish to learn to sail or try all the other new types of water sports that are now so popular.

There are great sports facilities in Pilar de la Horadada and its surrounding residential developments: Football pitches, tennnis courts, paddle tennis courts, a heated pool for all-yearround use, athletics track, climbing wall, covered multi-sports hall, bowls, petanque, off-road cycling and jogging tracks and for golf enthusiasts, Lo Romero Golf Course.
Also, just a few km up the road, you have the new, multi award-winning, Las Colinas Golf & Country Club. Within short driving distances you have 10 other golf courses, including La Manga, to play. The Costa Blanca, with its great landscape, marked by orange, lemon and almond trees, make the unique character of this regiรณn which offers everything for your holidays or a second home. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), the Costa Blanca has one of the best climates of the planet and to the South of Alicante, the surrounding pine covered mountains protect the coastal areas and prevent the rain from reaching the coastal plains.

Of these, Alicante and Torrevieja receive the most numbers of tourists, but each and every one of those towns has its own charm and are well worth visiting. You will find beaches, museums, monuments, old urban centers, natural parks and all the towns of the interior of the province of Alicante, have a lot of places that will surprise you with their beauty. Sun, sea and mountains are a perfect combination for family vacations or all-year-round living. Orihuela cuisine is typically Mediterranean with a wide variety of ingredients, flavour and aromas creating some of the most delicious dishes on the continent. There are lots of architectural sights in Orihuela too; the Palace of Rubaclava, a 14th century gothic cathedral, the Baroque church of Santo Domingo and an Arabic castle.

The new facility “Las Colinas Short Game Facility designed by Miguel Ángel Jiménez”, 21-time European Tour winner, is located just over 100 metres from the driving range. It occupies an area of 5,000 sq. metres and has extensive playing areas, including an immaculate 680 sq. metre green. It also has two bunkers so that golfers can practice their short game repertoire from distances up to 65 metres. The cities of Alicante and Murcia, 78 and 55 km from the resort respectively, are the regional capitals. Other towns of historical interest include Orihuela, Elche and Cartagena. The nearest town is Pilar de la Horadada, a fast-growing, international community on the coast, with the fabulous beaches of Mil Palmeras and all amenities, only 6km from the resort. Adjacent to Mil Palmeras is Dehesa de Campoamor, where the Beach Club of Las Colinas is situated.
The region’s cuisine is typically Mediterranean, with a wide variety of ingredients, flavours and aromas. Rice is the basic ingredient and plays a leading role in a wide range of dishes, accompanied by fish and seafood from the Mediterranean, and vegetables and fruit from local orchards. Pulses, pork and game are other local delicacies.
Different types of fish are an excellent choice at lunchtime, whether they are cooked in salt or baked (good for gilthead bream, sea bass, grey mullet), fried (whitebait is best) and salted (tuna, grey mullet roes and marinated tuna belly with tender young broad beans).
