HEARTBEAT A Note from the Pastor During the months of November and December hundreds of millions of dollars are given by followers of Christ to advance the ministry and mission of local churches around the world. Normally, these two months mark the highest level of such giving in the church. We are right in the middle of that period of time. Perhaps a brief inspirational insight will encourage us and strengthen us during these less than ideal economic times. Let us consider what John Maxwell refers to as the “River” principle of giving. He says: “Our life is like a river, not a reservoir. We do not keep, but give. God will give to us what He knows will flow through us.” That is a profound insight into the love of God. He wants us to be His partners in His work in our world. He receives great joy from seeing His children allowing Him to pour Himself and His resources through us. In S. D. Gordon’s Quiet Talks On Prayer, he observes: There is one inlet of power in life – anybody’s life – any kind of power; just one inlet – the Holy Spirit. He is power. There are five outlets of power; five avenues through which this one within us shows Himself and reveals His power. 1. Through our life – what we are. 2. Through our lips – what we say. 3. Through our ministry – what we do. 4. Through our money – what we give. 5. Through our prayer – what we claim in Jesus’ Name. We may conclude these thoughts with these two insightful statements. 1. We make a living by what we get. 2. We make a life by what we give. May the Lord Who gave Himself for us bless us to be a river through which He pours Himself into the lives of others. Thank you for all that you do in the area of giving.
In Christ, Bro. Jimmy
