HEARTBEAT Paul, the apostle, wrote: “I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus” (Philippians 3:14). Hymn writer Johnson Oatman, Jr., penned these words: “I’m pressing on the upward way. New heights I’m gaining every day; still praying as I onward bound, ‘Lord, plant my feet on higher ground.’” Whatever happened to excellence, to the passion to please the Lord more than anything else, to the consuming love of God that keeps spiritual growth alive and well in a believer’s life? Can it be rediscovered and recaptured in the 21st century? The answer is a resounding, “YES!” “I can do all things through Christ Who strengthens me” (Philippians 4:13). Join me in praying, attending, and inviting others as we study Simon Peter’s insights inspired by the Holy Spirit. I Peter 2:125 tells us how to build a skyscraper life. I have found five powerful messages in this text. We will begin unpacking this chapter of God’s Word this morning. May the Lord kindle a fire in our soul to stand up and stand out for Him. Over the next several weeks, we will discover together that God has already provided the motivations, means, and materials for us to build a skyscraper life that is honoring to Him and will make an eternal difference in the lives of people both near and far. Is God creating a fresh hungering in your heart, a holy dissatisfaction with business as usual? He never creates a spiritual appetite that He is not more than able to satisfy. It will take determination and concentration but the result will outweigh by far the effort expended. If the Lord put a sign on the lawn of our life, it might read: “Under Construction.” Let’s allow Him to make something beautiful out of our lives.
LOVE OFFERING
For decades our church family has been willing to give above and beyond. In the last two years alone, almost $600,000 has been given beyond our regular budget to support a multitude of special endeavors, such as additional debt reduction, acoustical improvements, security upgrades, camp scholarships and much more. Prayerfully consider what you and your family might do for this year’s I Love My Church offering.
