HEARTBEAT

December 4 - 17, 2011

A Note from the Pastor The term “concentric circles of concern” describes the normal way we handle our priorities. Those who are in the closest inner part of the circle are our dearest family and friends. The next circle includes friends and acquaintances. The outer circle is made up of the rest of the people in our world, known and unknown to us. Our sharpest focus and greatest energy stays within the inner circle. Because of the everyday pressures of living, we may have very little time to stop and consider much beyond those nearest and dearest to us. One thing we do in our church is to intentionally attempt to see the world through the eyes of God. This is very healthy for us. For instance, consider the fact that in mid-November, a baby was born and was the seven billionth person on planet earth. The world population is now larger than at any other time in history. Also note that of all the people who have inhabited this planet—including Adam and Eve—one half are alive today. Taking the most generous evaluation of this seven billion people—one third claim to be Christian, two thirds are lost, one third have never even heard of Jesus Christ. We must look beyond our inner circle to see a world in great need. If we really believe that the Bible is true and that God sent Jesus to us because He loves the whole world and that only those who repent of their sins and trust in Jesus Christ will go to Heaven (all the rest will go to Hell), can any of us fail to feel the tug of God on our hearts and on our pocketbooks or purses? One way we can make a difference is through our Lottie Moon Offering. Our meager goal is $250,000.00 for global missions. May we give our most honorable and generous gift this Christmas to reach the world that Jesus loves. You and I can make an eternal investment in the Kingdom of God. What a wonderful privilege!
