We have been talking about how faith works at home. One thing that God has given to us to help in the sticky times is a sense of humor. I have been reading a new book by Pastor David Spencer. It is entitled, Strolling Through the Cemetery. One of the things the writer does is refer to some humorous and insightful gravestone epitaphs. Thinking of the family, I thought these were funny. “Eliza Ann has gone to rest. She’s now reclining on Abraham’s breast, Peace at last for Eliza Ann But not for Father Abraham.” Do you have any relatives like that? Another one that caught my eye was:

“She died for want of things. He died trying to give them to her.”

Middle School Disciple Now

March 2-4

“Don’t get around much anymore.”

Life can be hard, harsh, hateful, and hurtful but the abiding presence of the Holy Spirit and the awareness of God’s immeasurable grace can cause us to smile and to see humor in the darkest times. Is it any wonder that the fruit of the Holy Spirit includes “joy” right between “love” and “peace.” May the Lord smile upon us in our homes so that we can smile with Him and each other.

Love in Jesus, Bro. Jimmy
