HEARTBEAT
February 5 - 18, 2012
A Note from the Pastor In a world where marriage is constantly criticized and looked upon by many as obsolete, the follower of Christ must be assured that the Bible is very consistent when it speaks of marriage and the home. From the time God instituted marriage in the Garden of Eden all the way through to the teaching about the sanctity of the marriage covenant in the New Testament, God’s plan has been crystal clear. Robert Keeler in the “Toastmaster,” Reader’s Digest, June, 1994, quoted Helen Rowtane: “Marriage is like twirling a baton, turning handsprings, or eating with chopsticks. It looks easy until you try it.” Well, many have tried it and failed. Others have tried it and struggled. Maybe all of us have struggled at some point, but that does not mean that God came up with a flawed concept. Quite to the contrary, His plan is based on common sense, hard work, and divine intervention. Our homes were never designed to function without genuine faith in the Lord. We must be reminded that Jesus declared: “Without me you can do nothing.” That certainly applies to each of us in the various roles we play in the context of the family. We hear much of the negative today, but consider the findings of Dr. Josh McDowell. Young people who lack a basic biblical belief system (usually acquired at home) are: 225% more likely to be angry with life 216% more likely to be resentful 210% more likely to lack purpose in life 200% more likely to be disappointed in life When you look at those statistics in reverse, you can see that with the proper home life and with a Christian upbringing our youth are more balanced and have greater potential for a life of purpose and significance. It may not be easy, but it is right and it is worth all that we put into it. May the Lord bless the homes of His people.
Love in Jesus, Bro. Jimmy
