Golden Motorcycles and Conscious Evolution: An Interview with Jack Canfield by Sharon Hall

ack Canfield — visionary, leadership coach, teacher, entrepreneur and author — has come full circle. He began his journey as a teacher and educator with a desire to help those less fortunate. After achieving fame and success beyond his wildest dreams, and becoming one of the most sought-after speakers on the planet, he has returned with a new message of transformation and service, dedicated to helping others achieve their highest good. I spoke with Jack over the phone as he traveled between Santa Barbara and Los Angeles about his new book, The Golden Motorcycle Gang, written with William Goldstone. Where did he get the title? It came from a vision in a class on educational motivation. His professor asked the class to remember the first time they knew they wanted to be teachers. Jack went into a meditative state and experienced something unique and unexpected: I was aware of being in a group of souls, spiritual beings traveling through the universe — almost like we were on vacation. We were on these golden motorcycles, just having a good time. It felt so joyful and free. I looked down on earth — it was 1943, I was born in 1944 — and saw there was a war going on down there. I was like, “I need to go down to help this planet; help people live joyful, peaceful, not so competitive, killing-each-other kind of lives.” The rest of the group was like, “Come on man; we’re on vacation.” But I was adamant; I needed to go down there. Some of the others decided to come with me and help out. The vision changed his life. “We weren’t really doing visualization. We were just asked to go back and get in touch with our original intention, why we’d gone into teaching in the first place. I had a deep, profound awareness that I had chosen a body in order to become a teacher with a capital T. Later on, I’d have these experiences of

meeting people where I’d feel instantly connected, and I’d think, ‘Oh my God; you’re part of the golden motorcycle gang.’” JC: After The Secret came out, I had a reading. This very mystical guy told me I’d spend the next few years teaching people about personal responsibility, and then I’d get interested in transformational leadership. He said I’d be part of a group that will literally transform the world. It shocked me, but then later, I started the Transformational Leadership Council. Now I’m a member of the Evolutionary Leaders with Deepak Chopra, Jean Houston, Greg Braden, Bruce Lipton, Barbara Marx Hubbard — that whole crowd. It unfolded the way the guy said it would. WP: Sounds like now you’re creating what I’ve heard called “Conscious Evolutionaries.” JC: That’s true. For the last two years I’ve led Train the Trainer programs. We’ve got 186 graduates worldwide in over 40 countries. Now there are people in the Ukraine and in Fiji teaching others what I’ve taught them. I love the concept of conscious evolution. It means evolution by choice rather than by chance. We’re at a time in history when we have choices to make. If we don’t make the right choices, we run the risk of species extinction and making the Earth uninhabitable for human beings. There’s stuff breaking down right now, but everywhere I look there are pockets of what Barbara Marx Hubbard calls imaginal cells. It’s like when the caterpillar goes into a cocoon. First it turns into mush. Then these tiny imaginal cells start, then they connect and the body of the butterfly starts to coagulate around them. We see that happening everywhere now, various groups discovering each other via the Internet, coming together at gatherings, and creating units of cooperation and synergy.

WP: In terms of group consciousness, what do you think about the Occupy Wall Street movement? JC: I’m optimistic and supportive. Bruce Lipton is a biologist. In a recent blog, he remarked that whenever the body is attacked by something dangerous to it, white corpuscles and other antigens will gather at the site of the problem to surround and take it out. I actually watched some of my own blood cells do that. It was pretty amazing; there were little yeast cells and things, and I watched other cells surround and eat them. The occupy movement is still evolving. It may not have the solutions, but the protesters know it’s important to speak up and point out there’s something wrong. They are saying, “Wait. This current system doesn’t work. We need to address the inequity of 2% using up 50% of the world’s resources.” WP: As more awareness, consciousness and a “how-can-I-help” mentality are brought onto the table, I think we’ll see higher levels of problem solving. JC: Absolutely. That’s why meditation and self-development is so critical. I have a life purpose statement: “Inspiring and empowering people to live their highest vision in the context of love and joy.” What I added after the Wall Street meltdown was,“in harmony with the highest good of all concerned.” For the first time in history, there’s a sense that we can choose to move from a culture of greed and consumption to one of collaboration and compassion. WP: I’d like to ask you about Barbara’s Five Questions. In The Golden Motorcycle Gang, Barbara Marx Hubbard introduces Jack and Bill to Five Questions: 1) What do you know of the original plan? 2) Do you have any memories of having volunteered to be of service to Earth at this particular time? 3) If so, do you (continued on page 34)

s a new cycle begins, it’s normal to consider what you want to change about yourself and the world. If you were making a list of those things right now, it would help to know the big picture and the specifics of what needs to shift. Like a lab scientist with a microscope, you want to magnify the view of your experience so you can pinpoint causes of dysfunction and unhappiness. After all, you can only change things when you are aware of them. Right now, as you sit within the initial weeks of 2012, you likely know about countless things you want changed. If you’re like most of us, you have noticed how dysfunctional our world has become and you notice your own challenges in a magnified way. That’s not surprising, of course, especially with all of the media attention given to planetary revolution and global demonstrations by citizens representing the 99%. You probably would feel discontent and a desire for change – even without the media attention – but the constant reminders are like a repeating wake up call. Indeed, you are waking up to humanity’s crisis. As part of that, you are becoming more aware of your own predicament. A multitude of inner changes are required for you to feel whole, thrive, have loving relationships, and be tangibly connected to spirit. You cannot become enlightened if you ignore needed changes – whether they be known or unknown to your conscious mind. If you have been on the path of spiritual awakening for a while, you have been addressing needed changes in an ongoing way. You have learned that transformation is an ongoing process without an end point. You accept that idea because your inner being catalyzes your desire to be the best you can be. Regardless of your current circumstance, the need to continue your spiritual transformation process is now amplified by leaps and bounds. This need is there all the time, even when you have just completed healing of a lifelong issue. The need continues in both your waking state and your dream state. The need persists

Transforming the World even if you place no conscious attention on transformation. Why is this?

5 Reasons for Amplified Transformation Process 1. This is no ordinary time. The earth sits at a precipice, with life as we have known it shifting dramatically in a very short period. We have reached an energetic tipping point and must discover more loving ways of being in order to survive as a species. The mega paradigm shift under way is impacting everyone on the planet, stirring a deep discontent and a conscious questioning of things never questioned before. These responses accelerate your transformation process. 2. Time pressures are accelerating. In part this is because time is actually speeding up as part of our evolutionary process. It’s not your imagination! In tandem with this, we are becoming more conscious of ourselves and our life process. As this occurs, we become more aware of our multidimensional selves and of the magnitude of needed changes. We become overwhelmed by how vast our life canvas has grown. 3. Different times require different approaches. In no other period did we face such rapid change, impacting virtually every aspect of life and touching everyone in all parts of the world. Your approach to personal transformation needs to be updated regularly to reflect the increased momentum of change. The old methods will not suffice. In past cycles you may have had only one key life challenge on your plate. For much of human history people dealt with one or perhaps a few life lessons during a lifetime. An ancestor, for example, may have struggled with money as his or her chief concern. That same person alive now would face a vast array of issues stemming from past conditioning; past patterns not yet addressed will come into inescapable view. These patterns, held within your DNA, must be cleared at their origin point before you can be free of them.

They don’t surface all at once, thank goodness, but are catalyzed by life events. 4. You are not transforming alone. Everyone around you is experiencing chaos and uncertainty, catalyzing inner shifting on a mass scale. Remember that everyone on the planet is connected. Each time a person heals even part of a dysfunctional pattern, there is a beneficial impact on the mass consciousness. After all, we create the mass consciousness together over time – it’s a work in progress. As the mass consciousness shifts, your own transformational process is impacted. Sometimes this means you feel compelled to look at a personal issue that escaped your attention before. At other times it means that one of your key issues feels less troublesome, giving you a boost of confidence to address the next layer. 5. The natural world today gives us constant reminders about the need to change. We as a species have learned to discount nature. For a very long time we have measured our progress by how much we can conquer, how much we can control, and how much money we can make. The natural world – with its animals and land and waters – has been disrespected. Realizing that everything is connected, we become aware that nature’s crisis is our crisis. This awareness stirs our inner desire for radical personal transformation. It also ignites our wish to heal what is broken, whether it’s on an inner level or in our outer world. It triggers an ongoing recognition of the crisis that is indeed a shared dilemma.

Your Role in Today’s World Crisis Our planet today is in crisis with everything turned upside down. Turmoil impacts our personal lives and the lives of those we love, too. In our modern society – with all of its gadgets and endless choices of what to consume next – we can lose touch with the sacred. We don’t really lose the sacred, of course, but we can feel distant from it.

T ransformation begins on an individual level

and moves out into the world. The more I’m learning to trust my intuition and act on it, and the more I’m willing to experience and accept all my feelings, the more the energy of the universe can move through me. As it comes through, it heals and transforms me and everyone and everything around me. This is true for each one of us. The more you are willing to trust and be yourself, the more life energy will move through you. Everyone around you will benefit from your energy and begin to trust and be more themselves. In turn, they become powerful channels for everyone in their sphere of influence. And so, transformation spreads rapidly throughout the world. You may have heard of the “hundredth-monkey phenomenon.” Although certain facts of this story are debated, I believe it is a powerful example of evolution and what is possible as we continue to focus on expanding our consciousness. In Japan in 1952, scientists were studying the behavior of wild monkeys. The principal food of these monkeys was sweet potatoes. One day, they noticed one monkey do something they had never seen before — she washed her potato before she ate it. She repeated this behavior on subsequent days, and soon they noticed several other monkeys washing their potatoes before eating them. More and more monkeys began to do this. Then in 1958, after all monkeys on the island were exhibiting this new behavior, scientists on nearby islands began to report that monkeys on their islands were also beginning to wash their potatoes. There was no physical connection between the islands, and no one had transported any monkeys from one island to another. This study illustrates something of overwhelmingly powerful importance for the human race and for our planet. Washing potatoes was a new level of evolution for these monkeys, and when enough of them had accepted it, it was apparently transferred to the monkeys on surrounding islands without any physical contact or direct communication. This is how the evolution of consciousness takes place. Every individual’s consciousness is connected to, and is a part of, the mass consciousness. When a small but significant number of individuals have moved into a new level of awareness and significantly changed their behavior, that change is felt in the entire mass consciousness. Every other individual is then moved in the direction of that

change. And the whole thing may have started with one individual who first made the leap. So often we look at the world around us and feel terribly helpless to effect any significant positive change. The world seems so big, and in such a mess, and we feel so small and powerless. The hundredth-monkey story helps us to see how powerful one individual, or a few individuals, can be in transforming the world. Because the world truly is our mirror, as we change, it must change. You can see this easily in your personal life. As you develop the habit of trusting and taking care of yourself, you will gradually release your old patterns. Soon you notice that your friends, family, and business associates all seem to be feeling and acting differently, as well. Things that previously frightened and upset you seem to have lost their emotional “charge.” Even the serious problems of the world, while they still concern you, may not seem quite as scary as before. The reason for this shift is that you are beginning to feel the power of the universe inside of you. To the degree that you experience the presence of the universe in your own body, you don’t feel afraid. Of course, every time you open up to more power, more of the old fear gets flushed to the surface and released, so in the healing process, you will experience alternating states of power and fear. Gradually, however, a solid base of trust will be established within you. Others will feel this and in it will find the support to open up to more of their own power and truth. The people and things around you will reflect you in increasingly positive ways. The more light you allow within you, the brighter the world you live in will be. “May I be Transformed into My Ideal Being” Excerpts from InterSpiritual Meditation by Edward W. Bastian, Ph.D.

Transformation is one of the essential steps of InterSpiritual Meditation, a seven-step process drawn from the world’s contemplative traditions. I developed this process over a ten-year period working closely with over fifty extraordinary meditation teachers from Buddhist, Christian, Muslim, Jewish, Hind, Taoist, and Native American traditions. This book is the foundation for a course of study and practice for people of all religious and non-religious perspectives. It is the subject of an upcoming retreat at La Casa de Maria in Santa Barbara on February 10-12 and a ten-week online course beginning February 20. The following excerpt comes from a chapter in this book that begins with the prayer: “May I be Transformed into My Ideal Being.” THE GREAT HOPE and promise of our lives is that we may be transformed into our ideal person. Of course, this doesn’t mean that we have to denigrate who we are now, or wallow in self-loathing or low

self-esteem. For the power to envision our ideals is actually a reflection of the inherent strength of our inner being. It is an expression of the potential that already exists within us. Still, it is important to distinguish inspired aspirations and ideals from fantasy and delusions of grandeur. Nevertheless, belief in these ideals and our ability to manifest them in any measure, no matter how small, is our greatest ally in personal transformation. Throughout the world’s spiritual traditions, we can find many models of human ‘perfection.’ But it is important to remember that many of the founders and saints of these traditions began as just regular human beings, ordinary folks like us. Moreover, it should also be remembered that it was often against their own wishes that they were humbly obliged to accept their roles as perennial examples for us to emulate and follow. This humility is also a part of their example. So as we visualize the so-called extraordinary qualities of these spiritual exemplars, we must remember that these are also human qualities, which they have tempered with a beautiful humility. With this in mind, we might ask ourselves — as the popular ‘WWJD’ bracelets advise — “What would Jesus do?” That is to say, if we were to live according to our ideals, how would we behave? For me, the question might be, “What would the Buddha do?” And for the Muslim, “Muhammad?” Even closer to home, we can see all around us simple acts of goodness and courage in our everyday lives. We can find the living examples of our highest ideals in our neighbors and friends, sometimes even in the headlines on the news. And not just in news stories of the Dalai Lama or Mother Teresa, but in the extraordinary acts of ordinary individuals. The following scriptural passage on transformation comes from Brhadaranyaka Upanishad, IV of Hinduism. It is reflective of the spiritual goals of Hinduism which are echoed in some other traditions as well.

Just as a caterpillar, Having reached the end of a blade of grass And approaching another one, collects itself [For making the transition], Even so this atman, having discarded The body and overcome ignorance, Approaching another one Collects itself [for making the transition]. Just as a goldsmith, Taking an object of gold, Fashions it afresh into another New and more beautiful form, So the atman, discarding this body And dispersing its ignorance, Makes for itself another New and more beautiful form: That of the Fathers, the spirits, the Gods, Prajapati, Brahman, or of other beings. This atman is in truth Brahman, Consisting of consciousness, Desire and desirelessness, Righteousness and unrighteousness. According to one’s deeds, According to one’s behavior, So one becomes. The one who does good becomes good, The one who does evil becomes evil. One becomes virtuous by virtuous action And evil by evil action. But others say that The human being consists of desire; As is the desire, so is the intention, a And as is the intention, so is the action. And whatever the action, that is what is obtained.

Developing a Truly Transformative Meditation Our meditation might begin with the following prayer: “May I Be Transformed into My Highest Ideal.” In our meditative session on transformation our contemplative process might include these points of �� A brief rationale for developing a contemplative process that includes these transformative elements is as follows. Whether professionally, in academics, athletics, ethics, in relationships, or spiritually — we must develop a clear image of that which we would like to become. Then we must be honest about our present condition, giving ourselves a personal “reality check” with regard to our present inadequacies and the ways in which we would like to improve. We must admit that there is something wrong, something unsatisfactory in our lives, areas that we would like to improve, and make a promise to ourselves that we will strive to transform ourselves into the beings we most sincerely want to become. Without investing in debilitating guilt, we forgive ourselves (and others) for any part we (or they) might have played in our present situation. We renounce our attachment to the habits, desires, and behaviors that do �� open ourselves to love, the universal healing and transformative agent for all beings everywhere. We are now ready to embark on the meditative practices required to acquire the qualities we desire and to eliminate the obstacles in our path. Conclusion By now, you know that meditation is only one part of a larger, unified spiritual practice, not just a one-off technique. This may even be a disappointment for some who only want to get on with some deeply profound meditation that creates immediate bliss. If you feel this way, you are not alone. Most people want to be on the fast-track to transformation and spiritual enlightenment. There are literally millions of people who continue switching from one guru to the next, from one self-help scheme to another. Innocently, they sample this spiritual tradition and that one, accumulating blessings and initiations like merit badges. They read hundreds of books and learn to pronounce the difficult names of the latest Tibetan Buddhist or Sufi master to hit town. But mature spiritual practice is not only about esoteric knowledge, exotic cultures, and it

is certainly not a quick-fix; the rewards don’t always come quickly. The transformation of our thoughtpatterns, our ingrained habits, and our behavior is not easily accomplished. It takes preparation and work on multiple levels of our being. Some of this work may seem tedious, even unpleasant, but in my experience of working with profound teachers and practitioners from many ��sion, remorse, forgiveness, and the commitment to change are practical steps

in our transformation. These are the practices of “real men” and “real women!” They are necessary steps for achieving the long sought after bliss of spiritual awakening. (Canfield continued from page 5) remember contract? 4) What do you do best in the world that only you can do? 5) What are you to do now, and what tools or resources do you need to do it? JC: Sure. I’ll start with the first question. The important thing is not that you believe in past life regressions, but what’s the impulse that wants to express itself through you? WP: The second involves memories of having volunteered to come to Earth in order to help. JC: I think many people are having that kind of recall nowadays. Kids are being born with that awareness — like the Indigo Children — who come in clear about why they are here. WP: A lot of the people I interview consider themselves spiritual activists. They may not have past life recall, but their compassion has moved them to get involved, some at a very early age. The third question? JC: I personally don’t remember anything other than choosing to come down and create greater love and joy on the planet. WP: That’s your contract, right? JC: Yeah. For many, it’s just how we live our lives. We know what we’re here to do. Other people have different contracts; maybe they are here to be healers, or to create great music. WP: That leads us to the next; what is it you do best, that only you can do? JC: Everyone is born with a purpose and that purpose is identifiable a number of ways. One way is to look at what talents and gifts you possess. I was on a radio show recently, and a woman called in and said, “I don’t know if I have a purpose. All I do is know a lot of people who are healers, shamans, and reiki masters. I end up leading my friends to these people and their lives are changed.” I told her, “Look. You’re the ferrywoman; you take people across the river to where the good stuff is. Don’t discount that.” WP: Like a natural musician who doesn’t think it’s a big deal to have that ability.

JC: Exactly. I have an exercise I call a joy review. What were the times I felt the most joy in my life? For me, the most joyful moments have been when I was teaching — whether it was in the inner city, or teaching history or teaching at the university. I was on a radio show once with Deepak Chopra. He was asked if he found my books motivational. He said, “Oh no, I don’t find them motivational.” I thought he was going to diss me on national radio. Then he said, “I find them inspirational.” He said when you’re inspired, it’s like a candle’s been lit in your chest that doesn’t go out. When you’re motivational, you still have to motivate yourself every day to keep it going.

When we have a gift, it’s often something we do so easily and effortlessly, we don’t consider it valuable.

WP: I love that. The 5th question is interesting. What tools and resources might be necessary to accomplish my purpose — to do what I’m here to do? JC: Basically, that question is, who do I need to hook up with? Who do I need to join forces with? In the back of the book, there’s an appendix with all kinds of organizations. It can get lonely out there. You have to ask yourself; what tools do I need? I know for myself, when I first started out, I needed to learn how to be a good speaker; I didn’t know how to meditate, and that was a tool I needed. Figure out what it is you need and how to get it; who to hook up with and who to join forces with. WP: This sounds like it involves synchronicity — what I tend to think of as magic. JC: It’s only magic if you don’t think of it as normal. To me, the law of attraction explains it. What happens is this law of

attraction draws to us those people, places, experiences, information, and opportunities that we need in order to fulfill our purpose. But you have to be paying attention. WP: So often in life it seems we get preoccupied and miss the very thing we need. JC: I remember once I wanted to go to the Olympics in China. I really wanted to go, but didn’t know how to get tickets. I was at a conference about to give the keynote speech. As I’m putting my mike on, this man walks up to me. He tells me his name and then asks if I’d ever spoken in China. I said no, and then he says, “I’m the head of the largest multi-level marketing organization in China and we would love to have you talk.” I say, “That’s great; what I really want to do is attend the Chinese Olympics.” He says, “No problem. My brother is one of the Olympic organizers; we’ll make that happen.” According to Jack, this happens all the time if we’re open to it and not getting in our own way with limiting beliefs or negative thoughts. It’s that paying attention, being present. Like with his Chicken Soup for the Soul series. JC: I was speaking all over the country. It seemed like every day, someone came up and asked if the story I’d told about the Girl Scouts was in a book, or the story about the puppy, and I realized these stories needed to be in a book — which led to the greatest achievement of my life. I don’t take any credit for being creative, but I do take credit for listening to the synchronous signs that show up. One synchronous event led to even more phenomenal success. At the end of the book were three blank pages. “The publisher asked if we wanted to put anything in there. We said, yes; if you have a story you want to share, send it in to us and maybe we’ll do a sequel.” That’s how the first six books got written. Then they started doing books with co-authors: “We’ve had maybe 70 different co-authors work with us.” WP: Were you surprised by your success? JC: I wasn’t surprised that we were successful because we really worked hard

at it. We asked a lot of professional people how to go about this, and we did a lot of marketing; three radio shows a day for three years…. WP: You have something about doing five things a day. JC: Yeah. We started the Rule of Five. We’d go and call five people; we’d send out five books; we’d put something in the paper… that’s what got us there. They have sold over half of a billion Chicken Soup for the Soul books. “It was way beyond what we’d imagined. It was insane. We’ve set a goal to impact one billion lives by the year 2020. So far, we’ve sold half a billion books; The Secret’s been seen by a billion people…I think we achieved our goal.” They still have a goal of selling a billion copies of Chicken Soup by the year 2020. “I think we’ve sold over 350 million Chicken Soup books in China.” They use them as textbooks to teach English — Chinese on one page, English on the other — because they found the stories so compelling and interesting, people want to read them. WP: That’s wonderful. Basically, you’re still a teacher, reaching out to students. JC: I’ve reached more people in schools since I’ve left teaching school. At the end of Golden Motorcycle Gang, Jack, Will and Barbara discuss the idea of a global birthday party on or around December 21, 2012: “Anyone who’s conscious realizes it’s just the end of a calendar. What Barbara wants to do is celebrate the end of an age and the birth of this new era.” JC: We’re just starting to talk about local events. Most of the energy has been spent in getting big events going — like at the L.A. Convention Center. WP: A way for conscious folks to celebrate a big Winter Solstice together; better than New Year’s Eve. JC: As research has shown, when lots of people meditate together on the same intention at the same time, it creates a harmonic resonance that affects the Earth’s energy field. TM folks have done research about lowered crime rates in areas where people are meditating. I’m sure that will be part of this as well.

WP: It sounds wonderful. Before I let you go, is there something else you’d like to share; about your book or anything else? JC: The book is an opportunity for people to be inspired by their own transformation, and to be inspired to participate fully in this shift — not to be depressed by the breaking down processes occurring. In the re-modeling of a home, there’s always a point where it gets messier before it gets beautiful. It’s necessary chaos. WP: For many, this is a difficult time. We need to reach out to one another and offer help and hope whenever we can. JC: We all have to be facilitators. The word facilitates means to make easy or facile. Everyone who is awake or conscious, who cares and has skills…this is the time to use them. We don’t have to wait for a tsunami; we have that happening right now. Assume the best and participate fully. Share your gifts. There’s always some pain required and dissolution of the old systems. It’s kind of like an alcoholic who hits bottom; it can become the beginning of something better. As Napoleon Hill said, in every negative event there is the seed of an equal or greater benefit.

(Selacia continued from page 7) How does this happen and what can we do about it? We become disconnected from the sacred when our focus is dominated by things, acquisitions, and obsessive thoughts about the past or the future. It happens when we forget to take time in nature and to breathe deeply. It occurs when we take our lives for granted. We distance ourselves from the sacred when our interactions with others happen more through technology than through one-on-one voice or in-person connecting. As I write in my new book, Your Guide to Earth’s Pivotal Years, “Sacredness is anywhere you are because you are divine. You can discover the sacred and live it regardless of your circumstances. Do not wait for a particular time to connect with the sacredness of life.” Consider how many times you tell yourself that you have no time for a walk, no time to sit in front of a tree in contemplation, no time to see a good friend in person. We all do that, so don’t judge yourself. Our lives today are fast-paced and high-pitched. Yes, there is a lot to do. And, yes, we need to meet our deadlines and be our word by showing up when we say we will.

Accessing the Sacred In reality, though, even a person in a prison can access the sacred. This person can do it with his or her mind. It may not be easy, but it can be done. You, however, are not living in a prison so you have countless choices each day about how to connect with the sacred. If you have a backyard or balcony, you can go outside or look outside a window if it’s cold. No backyard or balcony? You can still look out the window. You can simply be with the nature that is there, even if it’s only the sky, one tree, or one flower pot you have placed there for this purpose. Likewise, you can make time in your life for friends. These relationships, while you may treasure them, need regular attention and care in order to thrive. You can choose to take a few hours away from work occasionally and participate in a group meditation or other activity that helps you to open more to the sacred. The key here is remembering to do these things and understanding their importance to your overall well being. As part of my spiritual growth practice, I do meditation and other processes to connect me with the divine. I decorate my space with reminders of the sacred, too, and remember to look out the

windows frequently to connect with nature. Examples: beginning the day with sun gazing as the sun is rising, noticing the flowering trees, listening to the singing birds, and looking up at the stars as they sparkle in the night sky. To be sure, it’s not always easy to stay connected to the sacred. We have a multitude of stresses as we live during this unique paradigm shift. Anything can change in a moment, and often it does! Here are two personal recent experiences that demonstrate this. First, in my neighborhood we have an abundance of amazing trees and flowers. Birds and all kinds of wildlife have long made their homes in this environment. Some of the trees are more than a hundred

Over time, as those properties sold and divided into much smaller homes and apartment buildings, many trees were cut down. Recently, I started to hear the loud sound of a chainsaw out the window. Down the steep hill from my home workers were cutting down all of the very old trees in the backyard of a house. As is the trend at other nearby homes, the natural look is being replaced with one that’s more structured and manicured. So, sadly, the trees are not being saved. It was difficult for me to hear the sound of the chainsaw all week and to see the workers carry away the pieces of the beautiful trees. While I understand that it is the choice of the property owner to suddenly make this change, it is disheartening to see people disrespect and devalue nature. Second, the Bodhi Tree Bookstore last November suddenly lost its buyer. Since the 1990s, I have enjoyed connecting with like-minded people there, purchasing

wonderful spiritual books, and presenting workshops. Oftentime, I met people there who became best friends or healing clients. This shift happened at the last minute, the purchase all but sealed and the current owners set to turn over the keys before the end of 2011. The two women who were to purchase this metaphysical bookstore backed out very late in the process – creating a big question mark for the store’s continuation as 2011 was ending. For all of us who love this store and what it brings to our community and beyond, this latest turn of events was a disappointment. For a countless number of people the Bodhi Tree has been a key resource to connect with the sacred and to share the sacred with others. There is really nothing like it anywhere in the western United States. It is still possible, of course, that another buyer will be found in the near future. Let’s not underestimate the power of spirit, after all. When there is a genuine need for something and enough positive energy goes into a vision for that thing, the universe has a way of providing! With both of the above examples, the focus we want to have is not on the loss but on the light-filled alternative that can manifest. Having a grudge against a person who cuts down a tree or people who back out of a business deal will fuel the negative. Instead, foster a positive mindset and anticipate something amazing being born to replace what is leaving. Express constructive thoughts and healing prayers for the beneficial outcome you seek. This is the path of the divine changemaker – a person alive now to be at the forefront of change and to consciously co-create a brand-new world.

Transforming Homo Sapiens into Homo Luminosus, Our Key to Planetary Evolution by Liliana Cerepnalkoski

T here is a vast difference between acquiring facts from

books or lectures and deriving your own conclusions from direct personal experience. We know very few things in life from direct experience; the formal education process consists primarily of memorizing facts. We are indoctrinated with a worldview consisting of generally accepted concepts from the disciplines of social sciences, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology and medicine. If we had a religious upbringing, we learned a cosmology particular to our faith, which dictated our relationship to deity, creation, and unseen realms. Yet even “consensus reality” is not quite as objective as we might wish to believe. We know that history differs according to who wrote the accounts, that regimes in power slant historical facts to their advantage, and that today’s media “spin-doctors” distort news to present the particular viewpoints and advance the specific agendas of advertising sponsors and government agencies. The world of “facts” continues to shift and expand with every new discovery. Ideas once held as immutable, officially promulgated truths change dramatically. In the sciences, we are now told that things are completely different than what we formerly thought they were only 20 years ago. The mysteries of the Universe are vast – the more we learn, the more we realize how very little we know – hopefully, at once a humbling experience and an invitation to expand the frontiers of human knowledge in a spirit of “reverent curiosity” (Carolyn Casey). During 30 years of personal exploration and study of spirituality and metaphysical subjects, reading many books and attending seminars with teachers from various traditions, I took a scientific approach of detached, neutral inquiry. I resolved to neither automatically accept nor reject what I was being told; through personal experience, I would draw my own conclusions. I was told to leave several metaphysical groups of an initiatic character, perhaps because I asked too many questions and refused to give away my power to teachers who wanted authority over the lives of their students. The business of spirituality is growing, and we must be careful not only how we spend our money and time, but most importantly,

not to surrender our sovereignty to anyone. We live in an era of unprecedented access to information through the Internet and mass media. Esoteric teachings once reserved for secret societies are publicly available on web sites, in mass-market paperbacks and weekend workshops. In the past, clairvoyants and healers were selected by their masters and trained through oral transmission, energetic induction and initiatory trials. Today, the only criterion for such training is writing a check. Some people mistakenly believe that after a weekend course, they are now shamans, mediums, healers, channels, or intuitives. Popular misconceptions abound: energies are self-adjusting, they do not require any technique, and you cannot do any harm by working with them. Some people know just enough to be dangerous! Unfortunately, many New Age teachers present derivative work, regurgitating information developed by others, rather than presenting new information based on direct personal experience. With so much information and such limited time, we cannot possibly study everything. Ask yourself these questions and “read” the author/teacher’s energetic system to obtain this information, before committing yourself to further study: What is the level of spiritual development of the author or teacher? What is their motivation? What core values are promoted in their work? Do they have direct knowledge? Is the information truly new, useful and derived from higher sources of inspiration, or is just an intellectual exercise generated purely for commercial gain? I’ve heard and read about the energetic system of the human body – ancient traditions from around the world described this knowledge – but I know that the energetic system exists, because I have seen it. According to the science of physics, we are composed of energy to the level of subatomic particles. This information-dense energy is more appropriately termed “energy-consciousness” or “energy(continued on page 42)

(Luminosus continued from page 41) intelligence.” All the structures of our energetic system and physiology carry information that can either impair our health, happiness, relationships, conscious behavior, and pursuit of the will of the soul and the purpose of incarnation, or catalyze developmental cycles of healing and personal transformation. Since I became clairvoyant, nobody can tell me that chakras do not exist, because I can “see” them for myself. They’ve been described a certain way in books, according to the magical number seven: seven chakras, corresponding to seven tones in the musical scale, seven colors in the white light spectrum, and seven vowels. While these descriptions are poetic, they are not always accurate. People who insist that chakras appear a certain way probably never saw one! I have observed that the chakras contain a tremendous amount of information, such as: � 7th and 6th: level of spiritual develop ment, intelligence and intuition, beliefs, attitudes, � 5th: communication and self-expression, personal truth, alignment of personal will with God’s will, � 4th: longing of the soul, giving and receiving love, compassion and appreciation, level of openness of heart, � 3rd: concept of self, level of courage, work load, money, level of vitality, level of stress and causes of stress � 2nd: level of creativity, quality of emotions, relationship with self, significant other, family, friends, coworkers, level of belonging � 1st: grounding, overall vitality Additional information can also be discerned clairvoyantly, such as: the sense of purpose of incarnation, how much time/energy is spent in the pursuit of ego agenda versus the agenda of the soul, information from past lives, karmic issues, thought forms, traumas, and childhood/ family of origin dynamics. The organs and systems also contain extensive information. Various tissues and organs have a predilection for storing particular kinds of emotions, traumas or stresses. For example, in the lungs we always find sadness, grief and regret; in the gall bladder we find anger and rage, etc. Based on these changes in energy and the aspect of the organs one can discern physical conditions and their causative

mental, emotional, relational and spiritual issues. The real reasons for illnesses become apparent: they are related to emotions, traumas and incidents in the current incarnation, or even from past lives. Scientists’ opinion is that many human illnesses are psychosomatic in origin (Greek; psyche = soul; soma = body). In the western sciences of psychology and psychiatry, the soul is never addressed – only the mind and mental health. This is changing with the emergence of new disciplines, such as spiritual psychology and energetic medicine. At the level of the DNA, we carry not only the genetic characteristic of our ancestors, such as how tall we will grow, eye color and skin tone. We also carry our ancestor’s predispositions to illness, beliefs and attitudes, and patterns of reaction and adaptation to certain stimuli and life situations, all derived from their own experiences, programming, beliefs and attitudes. All these are transmitted through the DNA in a “vibratory” way, creating changes in the DNA (mutations) that may manifest for generations. It is possible that we carry information from seven preceding generations and that this influences our lives significantly. Recent DNA studies have demonstrated that DNA interacts with the environment, can transmit and receive information even if it is outside of the person’s body, and can be changed through the power of a beam of light, sound, or the spoken word. DNA contains great mysteries yet to be discovered, researched and understood. The seven layers of the aura, the energy field that surrounds our body, contain more information. The aura is an energetic “ecosystem,” populated by spirits of dead ancestors, entities (sometimes negative opportunistic evil ones; sometimes positive divine, angelic; sometimes extraterrestrial in origin) past life information, contracts and agreements with other souls, “pictures” activated through triggers and associations created by memories of similar events in current life or from past lives, etc. Moreover, our minds are untrained. In our system of schooling we are given extensive memorizations, but nobody teaches us how to monitor the mind. An undisciplined mind constantly creates internal “movies,” fabricating scenarios with frightening outcomes that will likely never happen. Unfortunately, these negative mental constructs generate cascades of biochemical reactions that produce real physical reactions, because our bodies understand and internalize

in the moment. In one lifetime we may be unable to completely cleanse and remove everything. Fortunately, we do not need 100% cleansing to manifest significant change in our lives and level of consciousness. We need to minimally achieve “seniority,” to become a policy-maker who can vote and veto. When we eliminate as much old energy as possible and own at least 51% of our energetic space, we become “majority share holders” who can make decisions and live life consciously. Proper cleansing, restructuring, and charging of the chakras, organs, systems and aura are the steps through which we can achieve an Energy Makeover. Once this is accomplished, the healing process unfolds organically. The individual will increasingly feel physically strong, mentally clear, and emotionally even, at ease relating to people and connected with the Self, the Earth, God, and the Universe. Clairvoyantly, when the chakras and the aura are energized and functioning optimally, they look luminous, like the golden light of a candle flame. (Conversely, darkened or black chakras indicate low energy, contamination or negative information, or absence of energy.) A person with an optimized (cleansed and charged) energy system looks luminous, like a human made of light, thus “homo luminosus” (Latin; luminosus = luminous). The transformation of the Homo Sapiens into Homo Luminosus is key to the transformation of the Planet. Homo Luminosus factors energy-consciousness into the equation. He is aware, awake and able to manage his own energies. He respects and connects with all life forms as a conservator of Planet Earth, and is in awe and in love with all Creation. He can access both inner knowing and higher forms of inspiration from other realms, and communicate fluently with other dimensions and beings. He is constantly learning, evolving and co-creating, joining the advanced brotherhood of the Cosmos, for the highest good of all.

We are programmed by family, schooling and society to reject our intuition (our innate ability to know) and rely instead on the rational mind, which is bombarded by information from modern daily life. We go though life on automatic pilot, reactively, living the in the past or in the future but not in the now, unaware of the present moment – Asleep. We are under the impression that others have the answers for us; we look for solutions outside but never inside. We regard the body as a machine and mistakenly identify ourselves as the body – although it is a marvelous, intelligent organism with a tremendous innate self-healing ability – rather than the soul that came here to experience embodiment on Earth. We do not know how to live: how to be happy, how to master our inner states of being, how to relate with others, how to be spouses and how to be parents. We have higher education to advance our careers, yet no formal training in essential life mastery skills. We devote most of our time and energy to advancing the ego’s agenda, diverting our energy to the image that we created about ourselves, who we think that we are, and who we want other people to think that we are. How then can we free ourselves to pursue the true Will of the Soul, our purpose for incarnation? Human transformation can be achieved only at the energetic-consciousness level, through diligent work, formation of new habits, and developing new energy awareness and management skills.
