Healing Humanity One Note at a Time Steven Halpern has toiled over 40 years, crafting and honing his music. He is internationally acclaimed and is one of the “founding fathers” of New Age healing music and most recently GRAMMY®-nominated composer, recording artist and producer. His healing music has been a tool in facilitating and expanding the Shift now occurring. WP: I’d like to begin with a bit about where you grew up and what it was like. What was the environment like? What are your memories? SH: I grew up mostly on Rhode Island. I got there about age five and I had a family existence in the suburbs and I always kind of felt like I was a stranger in a strange land. If you had reddish blonde hair in high school you were an outcast from all the predominantly dark haired people there. But I was always involved in sports. Then I really started playing music at age nine, and by sixth grade I was starting to become really good on trumpet, and that became my vehicle. In junior high there were two guys improvising jazz without reading little black dots on white paper. I went right up to them and said, “Who are you and how are you doing this?” They said, “You heard about music, these notes go together and it’s a whole other language.” That was for me. I started studying music and improvisation and I got really good. WP: What do you think was the catalyst that really threw you into music? SH: For me it was a light going on inside my head. What I learned over the years since then is that what I assumed might have been metaphorical, in terms of rhythm and in terms of having melodies that I talked about, maybe in a past life I was a musician, I don’t know. WP: Perhaps so. It would seem to be a high propensity from all the lives we’ve lived.

SH: Well more than perhaps; supported the first time I read about Edgar Cayce talking about healing music and the ancient healing temples of Egypt. The first time I stepped out on stage by myself in a darkened auditorium in high school and heard that reverb, I got chills. I knew that space, I knew that sound of big cathedrals. Got to college, University of Buffalo, and the second weekend there was a faculty member jazz jam with some incredible musicians. At that point I was always walking around with my trumpet because my teacher said “always have it with you, that’s how you become one with the instrument.” Well they saw that and said, “You, out of the audience and up on stage.” At one point the trumpet took off and started playing by itself. And I was playing things I had never played before. Something was happening. My friends asked “What got into you?” And the leader of that jam, a master teacher of Buffalo said, “We thought that’s who you were…come with us.” And that introduced me to a whole other world of spirituality, of tuning into one’s muse. Most of the community of Buffalo at that point was the Berkeley of the East, master poets like Robert Duncan, Robbie Kriely and our leader Jack Carr. So that was when music became less analytical – if you’re a trumpet player, you played higher and faster. It became music where I became the instrument of the instrument. That’s what really opened me up. Having read about the ancient healing music in Greece or Pythagoras in ancient Egypt, that became a quest. I started meditating and praying to hear what that music would sound like. What would

that be for contemporary civilization? Uh, I started reading everything I could find by ancient muses of healing music, and there wasn’t much. WP: Did you see that as an embarking on a new, more spiritual quest? Were you digging deeper into yourself? SH: A different kind of spirituality, yes. Many of the jazz musicians that I would hang out with and interview like Pharaoh Sanders and many of the people had a strong spirituality. In fact John Coltrane was our ideological patron saint and he really blazed the trail. Hearing his music, understanding where it was coming from really took hold inside, and then the music led me and carried me into different things. Part of that meant practicing music eight hours a day which took me to a place where I who could sit in with anybody. So I got to jam with people like Larry Coryell, Pharoah Sanders, Ron Carter, Archie Shepp and Frank Zappa and Moby Grape and Rick Derringer and the boys. That for me as a musician was really getting a chance to be with energy. That’s where it all came back, and that was a spiritual experience. I went out to California on a two week visit in 1969, before scheduled to go back to graduate school at University of Buffalo, of all places – picture, the graduate over at the library of sciences studying transformation, consciousness and healing. That was obviously a major I made up, but I had an ‘in’ that guaranteed me acceptance. She, my ‘in’, twisted their arm to make sure I would be accepted. Then, 3 days before I was to fly back to New York, I had an experience that changed my life.

ment, spirituality and science. So when the first expos started becoming wild, where I was the keynote speaker, it all came down to the healing powers of sound.

That was when spirituality came full centered. I was on my way down to the William Blake Library Museum in Santa Cruz. WP: How appropriate and synchronistic that you were heading there. SH:: Exactly, because he was one of the masters that we studied in Buffalo with almost a real incarnation of him as our teacher, a William Blake Scholar. So classes were amazing. One day I was guided to a sacred redwood grove and felt my fingers buzzing, felt my ears buzzing, which I’ve only had one other time which was with some visionary vegetables. I was told to sit down and I started meditating and heard the new music that I’ve been playing ever since. And I heard a voice saying, “This is your music and you could train to know about it. Your job is to share this with the world.” I was directed to a keyboard with crystalline celestial sound. I started playing that music, people who heard me said, “We don’t know who you are but a staff position has just opened, how would you like to be on our staff?” And this was a sister organization to an excellent institution. WP: Was that in California? SH: Yes, near Esalen. So I called Buffalo that night and said “Please send my books and my clothes, I’m not coming home. I’m going for the experience.” And every week there would be the leaders of the human potential movement. They wanted somebody who was studying consciousness and music and they said “If you applied I guarantee that you’ll get in.” And that’s how I became enrolled. This was the end of 1969 so in September of 1970 I was one of the first people in the humanistic psychology institute up at Sonoma State College. There I was introduced to some scientists who helped me do experimental design using bio feedback and brainwave analysis. Most people didn’t know what brainwaves were; most people certainly didn’t know what auras and electro field photography were. WP: Let’s go back and touch on when use the word ‘energy’ because it’s fascinating how you’ve connected in this way. Is it a tactile sensation for you where you connect ‘in a way’, is it something you feel in your being? SH: It was something I knew, and it was a spiritual experience. As I would begin to take formal meditation, get into yoga and tai-chi, etcetera, I got to understand that this was all related. I became a channel, a bridge to the world of music and entertain-

WP: You were a visionary in that sense. You were one of the few people who were looking at music in that way. And you saw music to have the potential to heal. SH: Absolutely, there are some other musicians like Paul Horn and Lasos, but they weren’t putting it out. I created that section having the first album, and I took my music to places that I shopped: yoga centers, health food stores, metaphysical stores and was told “We’re a bookstore, we don’t sell music.” and I said “But this is the music that Edgar Cayce was talking about.” And as I’m holding up my first album, a little old lady walked up and said “Oh I was looking for meditation music, can I buy that?” WP: The universe reached out again to support you. SH: Then the storeowner said “I guess we’d better carry that.” I was a child of the 60’s – anything related to business was the enemy. So the concept of doing business in the spiritual way was, you know, not inviting. Those were the places that were open, so that’s why I always was on the fringes of the music industry and that’s another reason why getting the Grammy nomination was so huge because that is mainstream. They never had someone like me be nominated for a Grammy. I mean, I was a card carrying new-age musician before there was a genre. WP: I think you’re surely thought of as one creating a path. So, it’s remarkable that it’s come to this space where you are being nominated. That’s testimony to what you’ve done in the sense of expanding a market. SH: Exactly. WP: I mean you came into a market that was just basically you, and now they’re expanding the market. You’ve opened the door for the general public to enter. SH: Oh yeah. That’s what I hope will continue to unfold with the Grammy nomination. This can help put New Age music on the map, put healing music on the map. Continued on Page 8

We’ve seen this New Age field of music in major labels, and other musicians have tried to label anything that isn’t pop or rock as New Age music or healing music. Last year the New Age Grammy went to Pat Metheny playing solo guitar versions of ‘What’s it all about Alfie’, having nothing to do with New Age music. This year it was great that my album called ‘Deep Alpha’ was nominated, affirming an expansion in the audience for this kind of music. People are looking for an experience, and that’s really the key to why I still have a career 38 years into my first album, this music delivers an experience. Dr. Paul Pearson who wrote ‘The Heart’s Code’ introduced me at a concert where he said “Halpern’s music makes it possible to have a spiritual experience without naming it.” The music resonates the heart, resonates the soul. This music touches something inside and that’s been such an honor and a blessing for me. WP: Fascinating. How do you see it having impacted your journey on a personal level? SH: I had never gone to a Safeway or stores like that. I shopped at health food stores and metaphysical bookstores; I was in a very small circle. One day one of my teachers said “I’m taking a sabbatical, why don’t you take over my job.” That got me my first straight job as a music specialist in an elementary school. I got my first credit card which gave me the money to do my first recording session. This really allowed me to come back into the world, to connect with other people, and then to experience the incredible gift of connecting with people in the world through the music. Here again, it’s such energy. I was a Type A individual from New York, stressed and showing people diseases of stress, so the people learned how to deal with this. If you don’t learn how to manage your stress, you’re not going to make it past forty-five, and that got my attention. I realized I needed to get into the space behind the notes, into that stillness. When Eckhart Tolle came out and talked about the ‘Power of Now’ and I read it I thought, “Wow he’s using the same words that I’m using.” WP: A great book. It’s had enormous impact on people, much like your music but perhaps less visible to most. SH: Deepak Chopra, Wayne Dyer talked about getting into the space between thoughts – the quantum field. When I am recording, one of the pleasures for me is that’s my temple. That’s the place, particularly not on a live audience, total silence, just

me and the engineer and the energy and the entities and the intelligences, my angels, my guides.

WP: Are there specific angelic beings that you work with, specific entities that you call upon? SH: Not by name generally although I’ve been introduced to some, they don’t give me their names but I’ve been very aware over the years of a number of different bands that I’ve worked with. When I have the outside people or Doreen Virtue, the angel might be there, or James Van Praagh of course then they tell me things. I don’t see that, I feel that. Sometimes I will hear something and I will play it, and sometimes my fingers will play it before I hear it. WP: It just flows through you. SH: I remember that you have to stay out of your thinking mind and I’d think “Wow, I’ve never played that before.” And I kind of take a pause, and I get back to the state. Some of my quantum leaps as a musician have been in the recording studio. Things would open up and then as a musician I would say “Oh, I was playing a pentatonic scale starting this” and I could understand what I just did. WP:: So, were you able to replicate it later? SH: Right! But over the years every one of my albums has had at least one moment where the room filled with light, where there was a much clearer thing. And I thought that this was just happening to me, but at one point my engineer said “Wow, did you just see that? I replied, “That was our visit from the angels right there.” We called it a voltage surge. But I was told early on not to mention that because that will take people away from the experience and they’ll be more interested in “who’s he channeling”. This music was altogether different. It wasn’t music to impress people, it was to put them in a state where they make their own spiritual connection, have their own spiritual experience. WP: Do you sense or feel the magnitude of what you’ve created over the years? How you’ve touched the masses? SH: Absolutely. been really close some time in the past but they never tell you. That is the first time a meditative album has done that much. WP: Yes, when you promote it a lot, when you have all the right contacts available to you and of course a budget to support the effort. SH: And we see that happening all the time. They all had a million dollars or more behind them. My album has none of this. It’s only the truly organic that rise to that kind of prominence this way. WP: Remarkable. SH: It’s also exciting. It’s a level of gravitas that this isn’t just a belief that we in the New Age had, that this is a really important concept and it’s infiltrating and resonating. And that’s because the field of consciousness out there is resonating. Sometimes the music arrived fully composed and when I reprieved the writings of Mozart, Liszt, Scriabin, Debussy, some of my ideological patron saints, they would talk about how sometimes they would hear the music in their head and it came out fully formed, and they couldn’t use the word ‘channeled’. Mozart would say, “I thank God that it sounds Mozartian” And as a musician our antennae are attune to hearing certain things. So my brand of healing is through the music. My in your face persona said, “Okay, I understand there’s a gentler way, more effective way, to work with the energy.” WP: That was smart to choose to do that. Look at the enormous success it’s brought you. Look how it’s open the road for you for 38 years. SH: Yeah, well I’ve been on the other end, and that wasn’t working. That’s when the term ‘inner peace’ came up, a musical prescription. So the name for my company was ‘Sound RX’. People didn’t get the RX part so then when focus groups said “I experience inner peace when I listen to your music”, one of the consultants that we paid $2,000 an hour said, “That’s the name of your company! End of consultation.” I said, “That was just five minutes.” And he said, “You got what you came for.” That’s when I learned that $2,000 an hour doesn’t mean you get the whole hour. WP: That’s all that counts, you received the whole name. SH: Again, being a Type A individual, I was told earlier that there was no music that you can listen to that gets you relaxed in under twenty minutes. I remember the first time I

heard that I said “Excuse me, I come from New York. I don’t have twenty minutes. What do you have that can get me there in a minute?” They said, “That’s impossible.” And then I was able to bring the results of our research, scientific data, and biofeedback. Now I see some of these workshops and lectures are the same titles as mine but they say, “presented by [so-and-so], a certified music therapist” as opposed to one of those sound healers who are uncertified. WP: So what’s on the horizon for you now that you are sitting on the precipice of obtaining a Grammy? SH: I will know more after Sunday. If I win there will be a lot more people saying they’d like to work with me etc. If I don’t, we can still build on this because now my next album that was going to be music featuring bamboo flute, shakuhachi with more keyboards has to be changed from ‘Deep Bamboo’ to be ‘Deep Alpha 2’. I already added the eight cycles per second, eight-hertz brain wave entrainment to every track. You get that immediate hit because the brain entrainment enhances the effect of music. But it happens quicker and stronger and has brain wave entrainment and that is the difference. WP: So is it a process of bringing the leftbrain and right brain together into harmony, so to speak? SH: In a sense it’s also adding to frequencies closely related to the left channel and the right channel and the brain picks up on it. Some of them sound like all you hear is Bam, Bam, Bam, Bam. Yes that’s brainwave entrainment but that’s like hitting you over the head with a two by four. You get entrained but I get stomachaches and I don’t want to listen to that. The first law is it must be beautiful. When you’re in that state, the music never sounds quite the same. WP: We look forward this this sequal and our vote is for you on the Grammy. Your Footsteps on Earth Can Connect You to Loved Ones in Spirit by Medium Hollister Rand

ou can feel closer to those you love in spirit – without the services of a medium. In recent years there has been a dramatic increase in people experiencing direct communications with spirits. Reports are coming in from people who don’t even consider themselves mediums (or even very psychic) and range from the prosaic to the dramatic. One of my clients saw her mother in spirit standing at the kitchen sink, another felt her dog in spirit jump onto the bed in the middle of the night, and yet another heard her father in spirit call her name in the wee hours of the morning. With the increase of spontaneous communications, the desire for a more consistent sense of loved ones in spirit also increases. This demand for connection is one of the reasons I teach psychic and mediumship development in addition to providing spirit messages. In the interest of helping everyone become more aware of the spirits who walk with them, I share this exercise with you. It is perfect for this time of year as the weather warms and the flowers bloom. Nature gives the spirits (and us) a wonderful opportunity to connect and communicate. “Walking Loud”: Put on comfortable shoes. If you are walking on the beach or on another surface that will not harm your feet, shoes aren’t necessary. Before starting your walk, stand with feet slightly apart, one foot in front of the other. Rock back and forth slightly until you can feel where your weight is the most centered. Rest for a moment in that centered place. Start walking naturally. As you take your first step, notice how your foot feels upon making contact with the ground. As you continue walking, pay attention to how your feet feel. You can even imagine that your shoes have little magnets on the bottom that help attach your feet to the ground. If you’re walking barefoot, pay attention to how the sand, the grass or the dirt feels. Is it cool underfoot? How do the grains of sand feel between your toes?

As you continue to practice, don’t be surprised if you begin getting answers to life’s questions from a variety of comforting spirit presences.

Listen to the sound of your feet as they connect to the ground. Notice the rhythm. As the rhythm of your walking becomes more steady and established, begin to listen to the other sounds around you. Are birds singing? Are waves crashing or gently rolling to shore. Do you hear the voices of other people being carried on a breeze? As you continue walking, turn your attention to the smells that surround you. Do you smell the scent of flowers? The salt of the ocean? The aroma of food cooking at a nearby restaurant or home? Continue walking. Attentive to all of the above--your feet on the ground, the rhythm of your steps, the sounds and smells around you. At any time, if you feel overwhelmed by emotions, return your attention to the

sound of your feet on the ground. Feel your feet connecting with the surface of the earth. As you’re walking, notice the colors around you. The blue of the sky, the green of the grass, the brown of the dirt under your feet. How many different types of blues are in the sky? What shades of green can be found in blades of grass? How does sun and shadow change the color of the path before you? Continue walking, listening to the sounds that your feet make when they hit the ground. Pay attention to how your feet feel when they connect to the earth. As you’re walking, notice how the air around you tastes. Is it salty? Does it taste as though it is going to rain? Does it taste like spring? Or fall? Or winter? Remember, if at any time you feel overwhelmed by emotions or experience sensory overload, just return your attention to your feet as they touch the ground. Listen to the rhythm of your walking. Walk loud. *If you have limited mobility, this exercise can be adapted to your situation. Even if you must remain in a chair, being outside on a natural surface would be helpful. If you are able to pick up your feet, then “walk” as you’re sitting, following the steps within this exercise in the same manner, but from your seated position. “Walking Loud” can be experienced again and again with different results. As you continue to practice, don’t be surprised if you begin getting answers to life’s questions from a variety of comforting spirit presences. For instance, a man who was concerned about a job situation was drawn to a patch of daisies during a walk in which he invited his father to visit. When he showed up for a job interview the next day, there were daisies on the interviewer’s desk. With the boost of confidence that his father was with him, the man aced the interview and got the job. So walk loud with the spirits, my friend. You may be surprised where your steps will lead.

Equal Gain for Every Loss in care of Amazing Grace We all get our opportunities to dance with loss and gain. Whether we are hit with the “loss” of a loved one, the ending of a relationship, weight “gain” or the “loss” of a fortune, in one way or another we all encounter the challenges that accompany both of them. In some ways we thrive on challenge – a new car/house, a marriage, our first born... Many times we embrace these life fantasies. As we progress through life however, we begin to see that there is another side to that which we once fantasized about. Enter the expression, “Be careful what you wish for.” Why is that? Most of the time we wish for the fantasies that we believe will bring us mainly positive things. We rarely see the marriage that can bring us to our knees, or that children can challenge our values with their unique way of being, or the crazy-making burdens that come with having extra money. Many Lotto winners curse the day they won. At the same time for instance, “loosing” the people who we love can become life’s greatest challenge. Hav-

ing personally experienced the “loss” of my mother at age 56, my best friend, cousin and aunt in my youth, I understand the tremendous challenges this can bring. You might be familiar with the first law of thermodynamics, aka energy conservation. It states that energy or matter cannot be created or destroyed, only transformed. This law is foundational to our entire understanding of the physical universe. What does it have to with my relationship or my finances? Ultimately, we are all energy, frequencies of light, in fact everything is a form of energy. Therefore we cannot loose or gain anything. Our emotions are triggered because we have a fear or guilt, which trick us into the illusion of a gain or a loss. We may fear the “loss” of a loved

one, or the “gain” of a humiliating reputation. Every single emotion that we experience is based upon the illusion of loss or gain which is experienced as pain or pleasure. But again the law of conservation of energy states that energy or matter cannot be created nor destroyed, it can only change form. Could that mean that for “loss” I am experiencing there is actually a gain, and for the “gain” that I am experiencing there is actually a loss? BINGO. Enter,[drum roll]...an all-encompassing, ever-present balance that permeates our entire universe all wrapped up in the concept of YinYang and Taoism. Is it possible that this same overall balance permeates each and every one of our lives, and that our experiences of emotion are the clues to when we are not aligned nor in tune with this perfect balance?

“Enough theory, I am experiencing the raw emotions of the loss of my mom. How can this thermodynamics help me?” The first week after my mom died I felt like this. Then I said to myself, “John, you have done this hundreds of times with others. You know there is a gain here. Where is it?” So I stopped and looked around me. I was writing poetry, connecting with my family, I was speaking with my friends and taking on some nurturing roles with them, I took a vacation, and I had the most amazing experience in meeting a stranger that was the same age and name as my mom, Lorraine, who was born on the day she died (56 years prior of course to make her the same age), I even wrote a story “Thank God My Mom Died” and I started an entire company! Boy was I enthusiastic when I started my own company. It was taking off, we were bringing in hundreds of thousands of dollars. We had clients all over the world. We had books coming out, we hit #1 on Amazon, we were endorsed by the biggest

names in the business. I even found myself on ABC-TV! Then reality set in. I had all these customers to service. I had complaints, and not enough staff to deal with them. I had no idea how to file paperwork, crap was all over the place. Then the book industry completely changed to digi-

So how exactly do we get beyond the illusion of gain and loss? The process of how to get there is pretty simple. Allowing ourselves to stop and focus in order to actually do the work is usually the greatest challenge. When our emotions come up, it can be helpful to stop for a moment, delve deeper and get clear. In the case of my mom, I thought I lost hundreds of roles that she played in my life. I loved this person with all my heart and soul. Eventually, I took the time to list 325 qualities that my mom portrayed to me. I then looked and discovered where all of these 325 qualities were currently in my life. Simply, I looked for the equal gain where I once perceived loss. Upon discovering this balance, my heart opened and amazing grace shared the presence of my mom. In honoring her transformation, my life was renewed as was my relationship with mom forever. Back to the company I started, after I went through years of challenges with it, I stopped, looked in the mirror and went deep into my soul. I asked myself, “Would I truly love to create this brand. Is this the meaning of my life? Can I fit my dreams into this picture? My heart guided me and affirmed that this is who I am, and a large part of my journey. Again in balance, amazing grace found me. W e are energetic beings. Everything we per-

ceive as “reality” is also made of energy. But that’s old hat, isn’t it? Most of us learned that in our high school science classes! The scientific knowledge that is not as readily delivered into mainstream education is that it is consciousness that dictates the form energy takes to create what we perceive as “reality.” Quantum physicists began finding evidence of this a century ago, and it has been very unsettling to the scientific community ever since. Why? Because quantum discoveries have continued to confirm that reality is simply a projection of consciousness. Understand that this completely derails the “facts” that they have based their entire careers on! A little human compassion is in order, don’t you think? What if you believed that your worth, your very survival, was dependent on beliefs that were being proven obsolete? How vocal about that would you be? “Survival” is not too strong a word, either, especially for past generations. “Survival of the fittest” is a scientific theory that has been deeply ingrained in our collective consciousness. We’ve all been touched by it, in some way or another. And the belief that we need to fight in order to survive is a very ancient one indeed. Compassion is thus in order for us ALL. Besides, nothing has ever really been

And what the quantum leap of awareness made available is that CONSCIOUSNESS CREATES REALITY, and as “conscious energetic beings”, our beliefs dictate what we perceive, which in turn manifests the reflections we experience as “reality”. As the creators of our own reality, with sovereign authority over our own creations, we obviously don’t have to fight for anything to survive! Please don’t just take my word for it – this is physics. Research it yourself, find the evidence, and claim it as your own. You are sovereign. YOU choose. If you are by any chance feeling some resistance to the impact of my words right about NOW…boy, do I understand. We are not used to being sovereign! But we are used to being inundated with urgent persuasions to “do this” or “do that” aren’t we. We’ve actually built energetic “firewalls” to tune them out (with our sovereign creator energy, I might add). Before claiming our sovereignty, what else could we do but build walls of protection? We “knew” (through our sovereign gifts of discernment, more about that later) that most of those urgings had nothing to do with concern for our well-being, but were fueled by something else entirely. And so they were. They were fueled by the old “fear of survival” belief in scarcity, and the need to compete in order to get “enough” – which is never “enough” when fear reigns, for it could all be lost again tomorrow. That’s the old “survival of the fittest” mentality in action. One survival tactic resulting in our need for “firewalls” is the barrage known as “marketing”. It is tiring.

But know that it is not easy on those who use it either. The energies of competition and striving never are. Yet, that is how people have been taught to treat one another in order to “assure their survival”. Have compassion then, for both the teachers and those who have “bought” their teachings. hidden by anyone. Nothing can be. Awareness awaits only our OWN willingness to perceive. Our classical scientists illustrated quite beautifully that such willingness expands only as far as our beliefs will allow it to. Yet, as many in our collective became ready for an expanded awareness of the nature of “reality”, our quantum physicists made it readily available. All is synchronized in perfect timing, always.

It is time to take the “firewalls” down, to replace them with compassion, and to rely on our gift of discernment to navigate through the old energies and into the NEW. In the past, we let selfdoubt undermine this powerful gift, but NOW, we can discern such undermining and dismiss the doubts! We can recognize the old fear-driven motivations immediately by the way they pull on us, and instead calmly say, “No thank you.” We can feel how the NEW heart-born motivations manifest as responses to calls that have already sounded within us, and say, “Yes! Thank you!” So it will go, becoming ever more obvious that “reality” arrives exactly as it does, when it does, at our own, sovereign, request. NEVER forget that you are very far from powerless. Your own consciousness creates your reality! And in this moment in time, you are certainly not here to repeat old patterns of separation. NOW, you are here to create NEW ones, based on Unity Consciousness. We all are. And we are in the homestretch at last. Our power as Creator Beings is unlimited. All we need do is believe it, and use it responsibly. Don’t worry, YOU already know how. Just let your heart guide you. Everything is Energy… Chakra is the Sanskrit word meaning “wheel” or “turning”. Chakras are energy vortices that can be found supporting the human physical vessel. It has been my personal understanding from working with these vortices, and the teachings from spirit, that these energy centers support physical life from the non-physical or spiritual realms into the physical. These vortices when off balance, or not metabolizing fully, can create distortions in our reality. When a Chakra has been “out of balance” for some time it can and does lead to physical disease. All disease begins as an energetic imbalance which stem from something within your internal landscape needing attention. When we begin to work and honor these natural, organic systems within the body we truly begin to master our health and wellbeing as well as evolve into higher consciousness.

The Seventh Chakra Location: Top of the Head Gland: Pineal Gland Color: Violet Qualities: One-ness, Beauty, Grace, The Christ Light.

Chakra 1 and 7 are the two chakras

with only one aspect. Chakras 2-6 have two aspects to them, a front and back. The seventh chakra metabolizes the energies of Grace, One-ness and Beauty. The seventh chakra is a spiritual chakra. This is considered the GODHEAD. When one comes fully into the seventh chakra, the only goal is merging with the Divine.

The Pineal Gland Is located in the geometric center of the brain, and when dealing with chakras is referred to as the top of the head. The pineal, allows and directs cosmic energy into the body. The pineal also works to assist the brain in smooth functioning of all its’ different parts. It is important for the pineal to receive direct natural light for healing

and stimulation. Walks in the mid-day sunshine help to keep the pineal healthy. It has been said that x-rays are damaging to this gland.

ONE-ness is the complete dissolution of the personality into to Higher Self. It is from this vantage point that one is able to then consider complete God Realization. For this journey towards God Realization to being, the ninth chakra will need to be active and open. For the ninth and the seventh are milemarkers along the path of Self and God Realization.

Transformation and the Seventh Chakra The process of transformation can and does take place as we evolve through the order of chakras. When one arrives at the seventh chakra, all other chakras are taken into account, and when one fully comes into the seventh chakra, the transformation that has already or has yet to take place, will be addressed in full. The seventh chakra can feel somewhat like a “review” of all the other work that has come before. This is where we do our fine tuning. It is from this point on that one begins to fine tune personal energies to bring a whole new paradigm to play. If we have

not fully “healed” or “brought into wholeness” our Soul’s Song, our Essence, it is here we will be prompted to do so. It is our seventh chakra Consciousness that brings all other work we’ve done to a final “stage” to see that it is “complete” or perhaps that we need to revisit certain issues in our blueprint.

The Finer Energies of The Seventh Chakra The seventh chakra is often referred to as the 1000 Petaled Lotus. When one begins to truly “tune in” to this chakra, one can experience the tens of thousands of fine filament structures that compose it. Like thousands of tiny circuits creating that Divine Connectivity to all that we are, in all of our bodies: emotional, mental, spiritual, energetic and physical. Perhaps meditate on this concept seeing these filament structures as clear, clean and operating smoothly without resistance, connecting you to your Source and Soul. Connecting to the seventh chakra is also connecting to the Causal Level of your Being-ness, the level of cause. This is where all things begin before they become “things”. THE SEARCH FOR EQUILIBRIUM

lthough I have been humbled in my travels around the world by the similarities in human behavior, goals, and dreams, I have been equally baffled by the lack of balance in the lives of both Easterners and Westerners. For instance, vegetarianism among Hindus and some Buddhists fades in relevance when the Eastern focus on spirituality tends to discount the body as temporal and views it as an enemy to be subdued. So anti-aging, longevity, and healthy eating habits lack the same priority as spirituality. I find this a bit ironic since Buddha admonished followers to take care of their bodies because it is the vehicle for their enlightenment. Thus, letâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s explore just a few stark differences between Eastern and Western values. Hindus will not kill animals for food, yet they have a tendency to venerate or look forward to old age and early death due to their cultural and religious beliefs. When it comes to food preparation, they kill the enzymes, amino acids, and vitamins in their vege-

tables by over cooking them, a product of British rule and their concerns over sanitation. In contrast, most Westerners embrace being carnivores, yet pay exorbitant sums of money to stave off the ravages of aging and disease brought on by the uric acid in dead meat and the chemicals and heavy metals in processed, dead foods. Ultimately, when one juxtaposes the Eastern Hindu belief of having many lifetimes to get it right with the Western belief of getting only one shot at it, so go for all the gusto you can grab, itâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s easy to see how both lifestyles could use a bit of balance to bring them into equilibrium. The challenge is how to bring the

best of Eastern and Western philosophies together to create a more balanced lifestyle. It is no accident that the Law of Equilibrium is the last , t hough not least , of t he....

porating more nutrient dense foods, including superfoods, into their daily diet, which tends to get lost amid the lackadaisical attitude of most Easterners and the hustle and bustle of Westerners. The former think they have all the time in the world to get it right, whereas the latter feel there just is not enough time to prepare healthy meals. Thus, you have many Westerners who have more of an aversion to aging and early death than Easterners; Westerners are more likely to be attached and devoted to the physical and material versus a search for enlightenment. The typical Westerner often puts more focus on the body or consumerism versus a search for enlightenment, in spite of the fact that materialism and a fit body alone do not bring lasting happiness. Overall, only a small percentage of the world’s population has figured out that the secret to happiness and a sound mind and body lies in the holy trinity of equilibrium: a balanced mind, body and spirit. For balance to begin, one’s beliefs must adjust, since beliefs affect what one chooses to eat and how one feels and behaves.

today’s world, it’s commonplace to go on day by day without think ing about how we are living, what we are spending, why we are buying, what we buy, and if we really need to buy it. Even for many of us who think we watch this. We wonder why we have so much credit card debt, car payments, bills and junk mail. We also wonder why we are so ill, have headaches, and need surgeries. Since undergoing bankruptcies, depressions, divorces, cancer, foreclosures and heart attacks, we end up wondering what to do with our life to avoid problems, especially health-related ones. One thing that has benef ited people, according to doctors and scientists Dr. Peter Whybrow and Dr. Roderic Gorney, is educating them on how to live a simple lifestyle. This seems like a simple task, but it is very diff icult for many of us to grasp and live by. It is a concept rooted in consciousness and mainly supported by conscious holistic and green health communities.

In 2004, Dr. Gorney and Holst organized a conference to educate people about compulsion to consume entitled “Mental Health and Simple Living: Countering the Compulsion to Consume” at the UCLA Neuropsychiatric Institute. Experts gathered together to explore the way our lives affect our body and minds. “We are pushing the limits of human physiology,” Dr. Whybrow said in his opening remarks. “Some people collapse a little earlier than others as this push occurs, but in the long run this is not a story about people who have mental illness; this is a story about all of us. This is a story about how we are an ongoing experiment in America. We are at the leading edge of something that the human race has never experienced before[...] We have constructed a set of circumstances, a culture, which is actually toxic for us. It doesn’t fit with our neurobiology, and it doesn’t fit with our evolutionary behavior. Because we have gotten so complex and so big, we have to, as a society, think how we will develop systems which provide

the infrastructure in the communities we need to teach the next generation of people[...] The simplicity movement is the beginning.” Whybrow’s book, “American Mania: When More Is Not Enough”, was published in January 2005 by Norton. American Mania depicts us as a nation living in a frantic pursuit of more: a bigger house, a faster car, and the latest new and improved merchandise, such as the “new-improved cell phone, computer, T. V., toothbrush, stove, etc.” Unceasingly overworked and on-thego, Americans are driving themselves to exhaustion, spending less quality time with themselves, their friends, and their families. Dr. Whybrow warns that there is a physical and psychological price to pay. Rates of anxiety, depression, and self-destructive behaviors including obesity and addiction, are higher today than ever, and appear to increase with each new generation. Educating each other on how to live simply is vital. It requires the premise that “more is NOT better”. We must start to change our lifestyle in order to include conscious thoughts of caring for the earth, including each other. Duane Elgin, American author, speaker, educator, consultant and media activist says that “we can describe voluntary simplicity as a manner of living that is outwardly more simple and inwardly more rich, a way of being in which our most authentic and alive self is brought into direct and conscious

contact with living.” Some sociopolitical goals aligned with the anti-consumerist movement are conservation, social justice and sustainable development. Notable individuals such as Francis of Assisi, Ammon Hennacy and Mohandas Gandhi claimed spiritual inspiration led them to a simple lifestyle. Social activists in this arena believe materialism is connected to war, greed, Anomie, crime, environmental degradation, and general social malaise and discontent. Fundamentally, the concern is that materialism is unable to offer a reason for human existence.

Moreover, our materialist culture’s energy consumption fuels global warming, while our eating choices fuel agricultural practices that erode topsoil, drain aquifers for irrigation, pollute groundwater and rivers and undermine genetic diversity. Simplifying one’s life means not only less stuff and less time pressure, but also softening one’s impact on the earth and honoring the interdependent web of all existence. I have a friend named Paul, who unlike me, is not persistently searching for the meaning of life. He’s one of those people for whom life as it is, makes perfect sense. He’s a happy person with a loving family

got together for dinner, and eager to fill me in on the latest in his life, he enthusiastically revealed that he was taking f lying lessons. When I wondered aloud as to why he was doing this, he seemed a little testy. He took this question as voicing disapproval of his hobby rather than sharing his enthusiasm.

My next question was, “How does f lying make you feel?” He didn’t like that question either as it made him uncomfortable, as does questioning many men about their feelings. Still, he answered, although he didn’t actually talk about his feelings. Instead he described the mechanics of f lying. I pressed further and he eventually answered the question by describing his feelings which included thrilling, a sense of accomplishment, and pride.

It says life is not about stillness, contemplation, inner peace and connection to Divinity. The ego tells us we can’t live without love, triumph, thrills, accomplishment, fear or ambition. What about the emotions we feel in loving or being loved by another person? If you have loved another, or felt infatuation, you know what passion and excitement it creates. But could we get those feelings without falling in love? And if we could, would that satisfy us? And at what cost?

Technology may soon answer these questions. There are virtual reality devices, which usually consist of putting a helmet on that covers your eyes while standing on a platform or sitting in a special chair. Then a programmed machine takes you on a journey to experience illusions via sensory-only. Nothing actually happens to you but your mind and senses are hoodwinked into believing it does. It feels real. There is nothing dreamlike about it. And amazingly, soon it may be able to extend your sense of time. So being on the machine for two hours could feel like you’ve spent two weeks inside a false reality. Technology battles the ego and as the ego becomes the manipulated rather than the manipulator, it weakens.

This weakens the ego, and once that out-of-control tool realizes it’s no longer in charge, you no longer identify yourself as yourself – you simply just are what is. This happened to me once for a short period while I was taking a walk. My perception involuntary shifted from me observing myself taking a walk to there just being a walk. Somehow the ‘I’ disappeared. One instance where actions rather than feelings do matter, is how we relate to serving others. If we are able to self-create feelings of satisfaction for helping others, without actually helping them, we definitely come up short. We can hardly beam with pride for feeding a hungry person if we don’t actually feed him. This kind of feeling, through taking action with others, is a required element of the love we are to share directly from God. Thrills imitate reality, but our contribution to others cannot be imitated. Therefore the only part of reality that does matter is what we give to others. That’s our real contribution, that’s why we’re here, as opposed to here to get good feelings. Our physical presence in this world does have meaning. Relating to people is the action that delivers us to a higher state of consciousness. An invitation for us to start (or much closer yet) building on this reality, and cease chasing our thrills.

The only thing in your way of doing this are the beliefs you hold about how to live life. A first step is to decide that you want to sing as loud as possible, without thinking about what that means, and you begin. This decision latches onto a current of love, which will move you through and into seeing from a higher vantage point. Your personal perspectives about what others are doing or what or how they should be doing it, will melt into a sense that all are divinely participating with Spirit/ God in ways that are important to them; albeit likely beyond your understanding. Please avoid the cop-outs “my mind won’t let me”, “my mind is always saying something”, “I can’t stop thinking”... Just practice being in silence and you will benefit. Being in silence is an experience of the void, the emptiness which reveals the fullness. This experiential awareness brings satisfaction and peace of mind regardless of what you have or don’t have. The creator within is really supporting this change right now. Trust and support that with action. It’s eminent!

The habit of worrying and thinking about what others should be doing is of the past, inherited from your ancestors. This knowing will help you let it go. As the breakthrough continues, your awareness and energy becomes less encumbered and more available for you to recognize the blessings that are yours. Stop worrying about what others could be doing, and your own path opens wide, and your heart’s song will sing.

Exercise: step into satisfaction and peace for no good reason. This will spread to others and to all your surroundings, without saying a thing. This eventually makes its way around the world. Take note of your increase in spontaneous desire and ability to be playful, allow and support it; always in safe and appropriate ways.

Then every time you recognize the pattern starting to emerge, look to the emptiness right behind it. That emptiness is the truly allpervasive, which is hidden by the blinding distraction of guilt. Begin to welcome the no-thingness, and soon the guilt will dissolve. The maturity that is present and able to support your evolution through this is rooted in love. The extent that you relate to being the lover, signals your maturity and the power within. As the past tendencies to feel guilty start to dissolve, you will find yourself tuning into a deeper love within you and the knowing that all is in divine right order more and more. Congratulate yourself as at this point your intuitive awareness is seeing beyond illusion.

The most powerful opportunity for you is to stay present so that seeing/being beyond illusion is available to you. While your path has the quality of loneliness, your ascent into the light is the inevitable destination, and so the concept of loneliness will fade. In this lifetime, conditioning begins in-utero and continues virtually unchecked until about age 7 to 8 – when the age of reason starts. However, there are already layers and layers of conditioning, which are ultimately consciousness itself providing you with the perfect set of circumstances for your highest attainment. Many have no clue what’s in the layers. One of your layers is courage. This is something you likely know yet may understand little. It is because of your courage that you will be able to continue uncovering the layers so that you can take charge of the principles by which you do life rather than be like a leaf in the wind of conditioning. Some of the conditioning is very powerful and useful; you will probably want to keep those ones. Some of the layers of conditioning that you have less conscious aware-

The mind’s morality is conditioned by family, parents, society, church, friends etc. Some moral conditioning prepares people to be ready to fight for principles, remember however that those principles were conditioned too, possibly rightly and possibly not. To be free of unwanted conditioning, let go of all that you know and move into the void. The answers are found in the silent depth of the void within. This will call into question all that you hold dear. Logic can and will come in here. Know that what comes in, will come in when, and as it must. You will receive insights to the extent that you can handle them, without too much disruption of your homeostasis. How much disruption depends on how much unchallenged, not agreed to conditioning you have yet operating as a result of other’s programming. Only the brave of heart move into the void. Only those that are bound to know will know. If you must move into the great unknown because your heart of hearts is a yearning to know, then you will experience and understand what is beyond the beyond.

Some of what is available for you to receive is what you want – no need to expect it to come to you in the future, it can come now. The one thing in your way is some sorrow. Hanging onto what you believe you have “lost” can get in the way of your receiving. While loss of loved ones can result in sorrow, integrating that loss into the present is very important. The Grief Recovery Workbook could help with this. Sorrow can also be the result of a loss of a relationship, a job, a burglary, a car accident etc. Some of the sorrow is from others rather than your own. This part is from the ancestral line and was handed to you as a child. Parents, grandparents and so on carried sorrow that they knew about as well as that they did not know about. It would be to your benefit to consciously integrate your part of the sorrow now. This process of transforma-

tion will endow you with a more and more renewed spirit and clarity.

Capricorn - 12/22 – 1/19

The current stress in your life will eventually lead you into exhaustion unless you stop juggling so many unnecessary activities. You are putting on a show. A show to keep others looking to you in a particular desired way. Care less about what others think, and more about what you think. You are working so hard and are so busy that you are missing the healing that is available to you. It requires you to slow down, stop the juggling, and be. Once you do, the creator within will become way more available in your awareness. This might feel quite strange at first, but in time you will find much healing and guidance. In fact your mind may complain or warn you that slowing down and stopping is wasting time. However, letting life be allows you to take stock of what is going on and what you have in inventory. You will see.

Aquarius - 1/20 – 2/18

A key contemplation for you this month is isolation. You have walled off parts of your life, i.e. old or current relationships, for good or bad reasons. Walling anything off hampers the flow of energy and draws on reserves that could be used for creative ventures. Much of what you have walled off belongs to past generations that have been carried forward to you. Do you want to carry the past? You have the ability to let it go. It begins with the conscious decision to. Once you have, the flow will start opening up. This will bring a deeper understanding of the strategies you use to avoid pain, which also create walls and barriers to your life purpose. Suppressing the facts does nothing except use up more of you reserve

energy as well as your ability to have hope. You will need to once again apply letting go in the face of this habit of suppressing. This will bring up questions like “Who Am I”, “What Is My Life Purpose”, “Who Is My Soul Mate” etc. The first nono to watch for with these questions is comparative analysis; avoid this fruitless exercise altogether. You can start at a deeper level, listening to your inner voice which will support and comfort you. A good thing that you have going for you right now is a poignant awareness of seeing through the veils to the truth. Open more to this.

Pisces - 2/19 – 3/20

Grief is up for you this month. This means that all the loss that you have still unprocessed, is much more available to you to integrate into the present now. Those that have passed can be integrated into the present through love; love in your heart of hearts. It takes depth of maturity to get there. You are supported right now, more than you know, to do this work. This recovery requires your active participation with a willingness to venture into uncharted waters and your heart as your guide. Feeling like you are alone may come up, while the abundance of spirit, emotional wealth and mental capacity will take you forward. Realize that in the depth of love had, is the love that keeps growing, sweetening and deepening; even with those that have passed. As you do, you are assured success, insight, understanding and an ever -enriching love. The creator within opens doorways that you have no clue are there or available to you. It’s totally disheartening. Disheartened leaders are NOT what the world needs right now. What also concerns me is this; the people who really need help, whether in the health, wealth, relationship or other area of life, continue to suffer unnecessarily simply because they didn’t know there was a workshop leader who could help. I shudder to think what his life would have been like without that workshop.

Q: What does the workshop industry look like today, Callan?

Q: What do you tell Workshop Leaders who come to you looking for advice?

A: It’s a great industry to be involved in right now. As you mentioned, times are uncertain – and people are scared. Human beings inherently know there is safety in numbers. Naturally, people want to GATHER right now! This is why the workshop industry is thriving, while other businesses tank. Providing a place for people to connect, feel inspired, get skills and acquire education just makes sense.

A: I say the same thing over and over. If you believe in what you are up to in the world, it’s your duty and your dharma to do whatever it takes to learn to attract the people you are meant to serve! This starts with education. Filling your workshops CAN be quite easy… if you know the fundamental elements. As a former teacher, I pride myself in being able to show even the most ‘non-business’ types how to easily, effectively and economically use things like, ‘email marketing’ and ‘word of mouth marketing.’ I show them how marketing can actually feel good to them, great to their clients, and STILL get an awesome result. This means full workshops, healthy people, and inspired Leaders. I like to think of myself as a bridge between the people who are suffering, and the leaders that have the solutions.

Q: What’s the #1 BLOCK these grass roots World Leaders face? A: The biggest block Workshop Leaders face has to do with FILLING THEIR EVENTS. “Poor attendance” or “not enough people in the seats” are the main complaints. And I get it! It’s no fun working hard to get the word out, prepping your material… and then showing up to face an empty event room.
