At this time in our human evolution it is critical that we share the wisdom of our elders to benefit the whole. In an exclusive interview, visionary Barbara Marx Hubbard shares her concept of Conscious Evolution, the important role of the cultural-creatives and the birthing of a new human culture. Seven Questions for Barbara Marx Hubbard by Tree Bernstein

arbara Marx Hubbard is co-founder of the Foundation for Conscious Evolution. She is an evolutionary educator, speaker and social innovator as well as the author of six books on conscious evolution. Though currently working with The Shift Network as a guide for conscious evolution, she is also co-producing a global multi-media event, Birth 2012: Co-Creating a Planetary Shift in Time, set for December 22, 2012. I arrived at her serene Santa Barbara home on a lovely spring morning in April. Ms. Hubbard was in the middle of a teleconference when I arrived, so her gracious assistant offered me a cup of chamomile tea and the opportunity to peruse her extensive library while I waited. I noticed, arranged neatly in alphabetical order, Letters on Yoga by Sri Ananada, The Critical Path by Buckminster Fuller, The Fountain of Age by Betty Friedan, as well as essays by Emerson, Deepak Chopra, Kate Millet and scores of other philosophers and thinkers. When Barbara Marx Hubbard was 15 years old, in 1945, the first atomic bombs were dropped on Japan. This defining moment illuminated her life’s quest to find answers to the question; what are positive images of the future equal to these new powers? Her life’s work has led to her a message of hope that “our crisis is a birth” which will lead to a more universal humanity.

WP: In your film, Visions for Universal Humanity, Jean Huston says, “the rise of the feminine co-creator is the most important event of the last five thousand years.” Is this a principle tenant of Conscious Evolution? BMH: Just a little background; it goes back to the sixties. It wasn’t just the women’s movement that noticed the world population exploding. If you doubled the population on Earth, you’d kill all life. It has to slow down. So women’s focus shifted from the eternal pattern of self-reproducing to self-evolving. So many women were working to become equals, to gain their rights, but they didn’t want to be equal in a dysfunctional world. The rise of the feminine co-creator is the rise of the Creative who has a sense of her creativity to evolve and heal something in the world. She has a relationship between her inner drive to express her authentic self — something in herself of her gifts, into the world. It seems to activate something in a woman similar to the excitement of pregnancy and birth, in that she just falls in love with what she wants to create. The woman has the ability for unconditional love. She loves that unknown child unconditionally. I had five children, the first when I was 21. I realized my hormones were programming me to love that unknown child, and of course, once the child is born you fall in love with it, but it’s still really hard to take care of! But you have that feeling of love. After my five children, I fell into a depression. In the fifties it was considered neurotic to want more than a home and a family. Then my expression of myself shifted from a seeking, lost housewife to a

being with an expression of universal purpose. The feminine co-creator, particularly women in their mid-50’s, the post-menopausal women are finding their universal purpose as co-creators in every field imaginable. You find your creative energy begins to re-generate you. WP: This is a huge change from societal traditions in the past. BMX: Yes, it’s never been seen on a scale like this before. We had past cultures of matriarchy, but we didn’t have a “know-a-sphere,” a thinking layer of the Earth. We didn’t have the scientific and technological advances we have now. Even though there have been great women leaders in the past, the basic structure of power for the past five thousand years has been the suppression of the feminine. WP: Does this change mean a complete obliteration of the social structure we have now? BMH: I don’t think so. I think it means an evolution of it. We are already seeing it. In general, such women are always seeking partnerships with men who want to contribute. It’s co-equal, co-creativity. Not feminine dominance over men. WP: How does one respond to dominance, or its sibling, violence? How does one maintain peace in the face of violence? BMH: Violence to me is a condition of the human nervous system. A book by James Hillman, The Terrible Love of War, speaks of this. The crisis is such that if the species is going to survive, there is going to be a shift from violence and control as a way to organize, toward collaboration and co-creation. WP: Certainly recent cataclysmic events — such as the earthquake and tsunami in Japan — have brought about a response from the global community. Do you see the crisis in Japan as a metaphor for our times? BMH: Here is a tremendous irony of history. The Japanese were the first people to suffer from the effects of the atomic bomb. They are a very industrial, technological nation, and now they have a nuclear crisis. It looks to me like Japan might be destined by evolution to have come up with a new industrial culture. It could be they cannot continue with nuclear energy. They already know fossil fuels are unsustainable and destructive. WP: Do you think this might be the place the change begins? BMH: I think it’s beginning in many places all over the world, right now with the green movements, conscious capitalism movements, but somewhere it has to be bad enough to initiate the change. That’s the way evolution works. WP: What about corporate greed, personal gain? How does that play out in this new world?

BMH: If they can get away with it, they will. Corporate greed requires fossil fuels, nuclear energy. It is the basis of an industrial culture. They may very well destroy the culture, and global warming will continue and cities will go under water. However, you start linking up that which is shifting, linking that which is emergent and sustainable, linking up the positive — wherever you can find it. Here’s the evolutionary theory: if you can connect that which is creative, non-linear connectivity, with what is creative, emergent and sustainable, then, maybe with cultural-creatives, we will see change. It’s a very difficult birth to the new human culture. WP: Is this transformation available only to those who are conscious of the need for transformation? What about those who haven’t heard this conversation? BMH: It’s so interesting now when you see pictures of the Taliban with their computers and technology. They have Facebook. WP: Outfitted in their ninth-century garb. BMF: Yes! The ninth-century on Facebook! Something’s going to give. They have children. While these cultures are reactionary, they are also trans-global. As we’ve seen in Tunisia and Egypt, it is the strategy of the young people to mobilize against dictatorships. We realize our “intelligence” has gone back to the women.

We’ve reached what I call a crisis of the birth of a co-evolving species. What is our purpose? There is nobody who is an expert. There is no indigenous elder to stand on the other side. WP: Actually, I hear a lot of hope in our exchange here this morning. BMH: Crisis precedes transformation. I’ll tell you what my project is. I am so excited now. We are creating a venue for Birth 2012: Co-Creating a Planetary Shift in Time set for December 22, 2012, right here — a trans-global event. BMH: I like to get up very early in the morning. I meditate. I sit right here in this chair. I practice this particular type of meditation — I meditate on the Wheel of Co-Creation. ears ago, Andrew Harvey — mystic, poet, translator, scholar, spiritual teacher, founder of the Institute of Sacred Activism, and passionate environmental activist — helped me get through a spiritual crisis. I had not met him yet, but finding his books was like finding a friend. Andrew’s passionate, poetic writing helped me realize that I was not alone. I met Mr. Harvey this year at an Expo in Los Angeles. He was there to talk about his book, The Hope: a Guide to Sacred Activism. After a day surrounded by psychics, mediums, and crystals, hearing him speak was like stepping from shade into brilliant sunlight. He offered hard truths: the world is crying out — do we have the guts to listen and respond? The audience that day was asked to consider an important question: “What, of all the causes in this burning world, breaks my heart the most?” Answering that with our whole being would reveal our own path of sacred activism. I spoke with Mr. Harvey over the phone — about The Hope and sacred activism, about the coming global shakedown and shadow, and about his relationship to the Divine Mother, who continues to inspire and energize his life and work. SH: I’ve been thinking about sacred activism in light of Japan and the Middle East. You wrote and talked about the precipitating event of a global crisis before these recent events took place. Is this the beginning? AH: We are going to be shaken awake. There will be a “perfect storm” of events designed to wake us up to the truth; all our current agendas are illusions and we are living unsustainable lives. It is showing up in environmental disasters, financial

disaster, in millions living on less than a dollar a day, in the burning down of the forests, in the pollution of our oceans. There is more to come.

shadow that colludes with the collective shadow, we won’t get through the crisis. And, we can’t do this kind of work without first being grounded in the Divine.

SH: Is it too late for us? AH: In a terrifying sense, it’s going exactly as it has to go. We have to be shattered in order to be healed. The old ways, the old agendas have to be deconstructed so the new that is already here has room to emerge in greater strength. The truth is, there’s a great birth taking place in the middle of, and partly as a result of, a great death — this is a divine mystery. What the human race is going through on a global scale is what the mystic goes through in the dark night of the soul.

SH: I love the story in The Hope about the agribusiness CEO who gave you the serpent’s wisdom. You stated that you had been naive about evil; you believed people who’d do such things to others and to the environment were just ignorant and unaware of the consequences or the harm they caused, but this encounter ended your innocence.

SH: You have said we won’t survive this deconstruction without the grace of the Divine, our spiritual practices, and our work with our own shadow-material. You’ve described it as one of the key practices of a sacred activist. Many spiritual people either demonize this shadow aspect, or seem to ignore it completely. AH: Without confronting our personal

AH: Yes. I discovered he was not ignorant; he just didn’t care. He’d knowingly enriched himself at the expense of his own future, the future of the planet, and the future of the human race. People in power, wedded to the destructive forces, will use them consciously. And that’s very scary. But, just as Hitler was defeated by the madness of his own overreaching arrogance in invading Russia, so will the overreaching and unsustainable nature of the current system destroy itself. SH: Should we have compassion even for those who are bringing about such destruction?

AH: Of course; because they are doing the most appalling things to themselves first in order to do these dreadful things. But, that should not stop us from opposing their actions with real vigor — while still holding them in our hearts. SH: That’s a beautiful vision, and a hard place for many activists to hold. AH: It’s a hard place for anyone to hold. Gandhi brilliantly opposed the whole edifice of the British Empire, and at the same time, honored every English person. Martin Luther King deeply opposed the injustice and horrific cruelty that had manifested in the system against African Americans, but managed to hold the white people involved in the core of his heart. The Dalai Lama has devoted His entire life to undoing the horror of what the Chinese did to the Tibetans; He continues to treat the Chinese with respect and compassion, and to pray for their spiritual liberation. SH: Not an easy thing to do. AH: It’s an impossible thing to do in the frightened, scared, endlessly compromised and endlessly corrupt ego. It’s only possible by going into our enlightened self, where all sacred activists are being required to go, and to put in place structures that can survive. SH: You have talked and written about such structures or cells — Networks of Grace you are creating — that will hold their integrity in the midst of rapid change. Aren’t people in many traditions doing this, through spiritual practices, prayer, and community?

AH: Grace and practice and prayer are essential, but they have to be backed up by actions in the real world. The new human being created by the Divine is a person rooted in the deepest spiritual practices, but who uses the fuel of love and wisdom that comes from these practices in order to be strong enough to act for justice in the world — with compassion, love, and wisdom.

The Divine is not static, it’s evolving. Constantly. SH: Jesus tossing the moneylenders from the temple. AH: Yes. He’s doing that as much for the moneylenders as for those who are being victimized by and colluding with them. He is exercising divine ferocity at that moment; as an act of compassion for those still trapped in the ego. SH: This term — divine ferocity — reminds me of the wrathful deities in Tibetan Buddhism. Utterly fierce, full of terrifying and fearsome power, but still Buddhas! AH: Yes! You can only obtain such divine ferocity when you can love those who oppose you as much as you love those who

are with you. When you can achieve that, divinely ferocious action comes straight from the heart of Divine Love. SH: Andrew, you have spoken and written about your struggles, your own dark night of the soul. AH: I think we all have to go through a dark night in order to be broken down; in order to become truly empty. Then, the divine fire can awaken in us and possess us. SH: You have said this came about, in your own case, from loss and betrayal by a beloved teacher. How did you survive, emotionally and spiritually? AH: I think one person dies and another is born. Betrayal that deep, that cruel and ferocious, can drive a person to a place where they are the strongest — it forces one into the Divine. All the mystical traditions have talked about the necessity to die in this life before the death of the body. That is the dark night — and it’s the ultimate mercy because it saves us from being trapped in the false self. And, it’s very dangerous. That’s why I’m trying to bring through this vision of sacred activism so people can be ready for what’s coming. It’s a question of being able to respond — creatively, joyfully, and passionately — with one’s whole being to something that feels to the ego like total disaster. That paralysis is already here. Most Americans seemed incapable of protesting against anything that is done to them, don’t they? SH: It sure seems that way. Things flash by for a moment then we’re on to the next. Do you think recent events are forcing people to wake up? AH: Look. America had 9/11 and was told to shop. You had Katrina, and that’s already a distant memory. Then there was the oil spill in the Gulf. That was bad news for awhile, but now it’s almost forgotten. You had the 2008 financial collapse. All people can think about now are the very small signs of financial recovery. But the entire system is built on sand and it will crumble soon. It will take multiple disasters to penetrate the absolute paralysis of the human mind and heart. We are now in the position of an addict. When you love an addict, you discover they can fall down stairs, be convicted of stealing — hurt themselves and those around them and do the most appalling things — but keep the addiction; until a devastating moment arrives. Then the addict has to face the fact he or she may (continuedon on page page 30)) (continued

their safe home to become mothers. As I write this, I realize that some of you may not feel you are safe to make these choices for yourselves either. After all, the society we live in today, even as American women, does not fully support gentle, peaceful childbirth. Childbirth is often driven by economic factors; i.e. how much a cesarean costs versus a vaginal birth or how long a doctor in a hospital may allow a woman to stay on a natural birth plan before he/she interferes. Hospital protocols are motivated by fear instilled by insurance companies. This is what is known as the “industrialization of childbirth.” I am not against cesarean, it is a life-saving operation —and a medical miracle when needed and used wisely. However, I, like many gentle birth advocates, am against the misuse and overuse of a procedure that has many repercussions that can affect the bonding process of mother, child and family. In fact, the elevated cesarean rate has driven the maternal mortality rate up due to complications of the surgery and infection post-surgery.

rowing up the daughter of a midwife there were certain givens; there were many midwives and pregnant mommies and an abundance of stories about them. My seven siblings and I often joked that our birth-related dinner-table conversation was inappropriate while eating, but the truth is that at every meal, every day with our mom, we heard heroic stories of average women at the most vulnerable time in their life — childbirth. The experience helped to form my opinions, beliefs about the world and later inspired me to make the film, Guerrilla Midwife. “A revolution will occur in our vision of violence when the birth process comes to be known as a critical stage in the human development of the capacity to love.”

Piles of books about birthing and pregnancy have been creating around French obstetrician Michel Odent’s simple wise words. I picked them up and never forgot them — they gave me insight as to why my mother is compelled to fight for pregnant mothers and their baby’s human right to gentle childbirth choices. Soon, I became a mother myself. As a filmmaker, the stories I wanted to tell became those same stories I heard from my own mother — all of which had a recurring theme, that of LOVE. My mother, Robin Lim, is a midwife in Bali. She is the founder of Bumi Sehat Bali, a non-profit organization devoted to facilitating gentle childbirth at a grass roots level. The clinics she and many other dedicated individuals build and support are found in villages throughout Bali, where hemorrhage after childbirth is the leading cause of death due to lack of nutrition as a direct result of poverty. There is another in Sumatra where the massive waves of the 2004 Tsunami have forever changed the culture of a people almost completely wiped out by disaster. And in January 2010, Robin was called to Haiti to assist in the building of a gentle birth clinic in response to the need of women and children after the massive earthquake there. She has caught babies of all race, religion, economic conditions and in all parts of the world. The women that come to have their children in these clinics or that she attends to in their homes are no different than many of you who will be reading this — they want the best most-natural experience for the birth of their child, only many of them don’t have a home or live in a situation either politically or domestically where they are not safe to do so. Breastfeeding is affected just as childbirth is. Infant formula has become easy and popular due to misinformation disbursed by the businesses who profit from bottle feeding. There is no way to make money supporting breastfeeding, and despite research that proves breastfeeding is best, there is little support to help new mothers initiate it. There is a devastating belief that formula is superior to breast milk. As our world moves back into a place where we begin to understand how dangerous industrialized farming is and embrace the importance of organic farming, we also can see how childbirth has become industrialized

During labor, childbirth, and within the first hours after birth, mothers and babies both release the hormone oxytocin along with other hormones that facilitate safe and natural birth and bonding. It’s these hormones that also facilitate the production of breast milk. When we disturb the birth process, we disrupt the release of these hormones and compromise the ability of mother and child to birth and bond normally. Since this disrupts the flow of oxytocin, the safe delivery of the placenta and closing of the uterus is compromised and the mother is put at risk for postpartum hemorrhage and slower post-partum recovery. Humans release oxytocin at other times in our lives — when

attachment. This first experience shapes us at an early stage of development — this first act of love is not just the first experience of love for another but also the first experience of self-love. As newborns we still do not see ourselves as separate from mother. If the baby is safe to give and receive love at this fragile time, without interruption and procedures (including early cutting and clamping of the cord, weighing, measuring, bathing, even early vaccinating etc.) during the first hour, a healthy bonding-attachment relationship will occur and the mother’s body should respond by naturally producing colostrum and, later, breast milk. Unless the baby is in serious distress, all of these procedures can and should wait. The baby’s response to undisturbed, gentle birth is to have an intact capacity to love and trust right from the get-go.

This is why we call oxytocin the “LOVE hormone,” because the body produces it naturally at moments of intense love and it is essential for the development of the human capacity to have those feelings. It does not mean that if you are born by cesarean section that you cannot experience love. It means that we should question the mainstream act of disrupting the evolution of humans at their most vulnerable moments — the time during childbirth and the hour after. If you are a parent you can attest to watching your newborn grow and change at an intense rate in the first days and months. Now imagine what that translates into in the first few moments. In these first precious minutes of human life there is accelerated growth and change and the oxytocin that is produced naturally during childbirth by both the mother and the baby prepares them for this vital human experience of bonding and healthy

(Harvey continued from page 7) die; then he’s given a chance to turn it around. Many choose the addiction and die. As a species, we’re dangerously close to that choice now. SH: The Sacred Feminine is very important in your work. How does She figure in this upcoming crisis? AH: The death aspect of this is Kali stamping Her feet, signaling the end of one kind of human being — the one that’s suicidal, matricidal, and addictive. Her other side — the loving, nourishing, Mary side — is flooding us with grace and with new technologies that could wean us from our addiction to oil, and with mystical and spiritual revelations. The vision of sacred activism itself is a vision of putting the Mother’s love into action and finding a way out of the madness. SH: Do you find women have more access to this vision? AH: Both men and women have a deep wound. Women tend to be more thirsty to discover this abandoned and derelict feminine, but men are waking up to their need to come in contact with their love natures, to stop being slaves and robots. Women are becoming stronger and men are becoming gentler and wiser. This amazing alchemy of the marriage of opposites is taking place in a great many women and a great many men at this time. SH: I have found from my own experience, unless people are actually doing some sort of deep spiritual work there’s a tendency towards imbalance. I practice a form of Buddhist meditation and find it really helps. AH: It’s not just spiritual practices that are required; it’s also shadow work, especially in groups. Spiritually aware people can disintegrate just as easily as other people. Teachers like Thich Nhat Hanh have evolved a very powerful form of engaged Buddhism. What I believe to be the essence of the Buddhist transmission is the ideal of the Bodhisattva, who works ceaselessly for the salvation and good of all beings. That’s the key. I also believe the Dalai Lama is the supreme example of a sacred activist. He has offered ceaseless, loving critique again and again for 30 to 40 years — about our environmental policies, our addiction to arms, our addiction to consumerism. SH: Your book is such a call to reclaim our voices. AH: And, to reclaim the potency and

power of our divine empowerment. SH: It is not about the needs of the ego; it doesn’t come from there. AH: No! It comes from enlightened consciousness. A major misconception is that enlightenment is the end of the journey, but it’s just the beginning. Once you’ve awakened you have to embody that in everything you think, everything you feel, everything you do. The Divine is not static; it’s evolving. Constantly. Enlightenment is better phrased as the enlightenment field; it’s an entrance into a quantum field of expansion.

We want to get the A; we want to win the gold. AH: But, it’s an entrance into an explosion that continues to explode! I’m sure the Dalai Lama came in very awake, but I do believe that at 75, his awakening is incomprehensibly greater now then its ever been — because of the intensity of his practice and the dedication of every single moment of his life to the salvation of every being. SH: Let’s talk about love for a moment, Andrew. It’s so much a part of what you have talked and written about over the years. AH: It’s a cosmic power that is manifesting everything that lives as everything that is — behind the dance of opposites. It’s a gift of the Mother-God; a vast, fiery, ecstatic, blissful energy. SH: In Return of the Mother, you describe the Virgin Mary as Tantric; ecstatic and fiery. I like that description. AH: Well, I don’t believe in the traditional idea of Mary as an actual virgin; that’s a patriarchal fantasy. The woman that we

revere as Mary was enormously strong and passionate — and radical. The Magnificat is the most radical thing in the New Testament. Mary calls for complete social, political and spiritual revolution. And Her example is of a woman who stood there, and endured, and expanded — just vibrating with the Divine Love. To this day, She inspires people who turn to Her. SH: Is there anything else you want to add? AH: Just that the signs of the Birth are there for everyone to see. These signs, from a mystical point of view, are that the crisis itself is both a birth and a death; that extraordinary new technologies are coming in that will show us the way through our addiction to oil; and that the mystical renaissance has made all the sacred technologies from all the mystical and spiritual sources totally available. To everybody. SH: So, everything we need is already here? AH: Everything we need is here for us to birth a new world — including crises to show we cannot and should not go on in the same way anymore. SH: Sounds like a good time to buckle our seats. AH: It’s going to be a bumpy ride. But, everything is possible. SH: ...Because we’re still here. AH: No. Because She is here, with us. She is in us, and She is guiding this huge, terrible transformation. She is blessing us with the powers, and the passion, and the vision, and the clarity...everything we need is available from Her — Because She’s here. That’s why we can survive. Doesn’t that make sense to you, deeply? SH: It makes complete sense; I can feel Her, too. AH: We have to come down, to this place, where we can feel the One who is here already. We have to arrive in our bodies, we have to arrive on the earth, and realize it is Her body; we have to see the animals as Her glorious creations, we have to fall massively in love with the reality that is Her. Then we will know Her, and feel Her and feel how much torrential grace is streaming towards us at every moment. Then we will wake up, and become strong, and do the work — not in the spirit of penance — but in the spirit of great, great joy. SH: Why do we hesitate to surrender and open completely to this?

AH: Because we’re afraid; it means the end of our personal agendas of power, personal satisfaction, personal manipulation — all the games of malice and cruelty, perversion and domination that we’ve chosen. SH: The very thing that would save us is what we resist the most. AH: Yes. But, isn’t this the drama of the human race? We come close to the fire of Love, and are terrified because we realize this is the fire that will burn our house down. That is when we have to trust the great mystics. As our personal house burns down, we receive the entire cosmos as our new dwelling place. SH: I’m reminded of the poem about the monk whose house burnt to the ground. AH: I think it’s Basho; “My house burnt down. Now I own a better view of the rising moon.” Our houses will be burnt down and we’ll own a much better view of the rising moon. We’re going to scream and think we’re being destroyed, but the moon will rise on a new human race. SH: Yes. This feels like a great time to stop. Thanks so much for giving me this time tonight. I’m honored to have had this conversation with you. AH: Thank you and bless you; bless your life and your work, and I hope our paths will cross again someday.

Childbirth is without question risky. In fact, no amount of technology can eliminate the risk that childbirth imposes entirely. In the history of the world, each and every woman that gives birth is truly a heroine. This experience is part of what

When we realize generations being born without experiencing the natural evolution of the birth and bonding process we see a world that is deeply disconnected. prepares us for the most important role we will face — motherhood. We need a society which holds motherhood as sacred and respects the fragility of the birthing process. In the words of Dr. Odent, “When we speak in terms of public health, we must first look at the gestational period, this is the time when our physiology is being shaped.” We spend a lifetime trying to undo what our DNA and our emotional experiences at childbirth have left us with instead of first understanding the importance of the time in the womb and the first hour after birth, acknowledging its lasting effects on the human physiology and emotional well being. As a filmmaker and a woman, I felt it was necessary to share this story with the world. Guerrilla Midwife is a film about my mother as an example of every mother, midwife or physician who goes against the grain when necessary to fight for the right

of women everywhere to birth as normally as possible no matter what their socio-economic environment may be. When women ask me what is right for them during childbirth, I simply respond that it is what is most intuitive for them. Introducing drugs into a labor will definitely inhibit the bodies ability to feel and respond, so avoiding them when it is at all safely possible will help you to be able to make choices for yourself. Don’t allow anyone to fool you into believing that drugs introduced during labor have no effect on your unborn baby — they do. The baby and the mother both play a role in labor, not just the mother. It is absolutely necessary for the baby to be responsive as well. In my mother’s words; “Many women who have had trauma in their past birth experiences may be healed by a gentle birth experience.” After making documentaries all over the world on disparate humanitarian issues that range from AIDS in Africa to natural disaster survival and are close to my heart, I realize that this film has been the most important film I will ever make because the experience of birth affects each and every human being. Find out what your doctor’s cesarean rate is — it is your right to know. Talk to your midwife or doctor and Doula and be clear on what their beliefs are. Do they correspond to what you and your family desire? Women everywhere have something in common — the astonishing ability to give birth normally. It is our right and we must advocate to preserve it.
