... what is your favorite cold-weather running gear?

Julie Arrison: Nike Element Shield Jacket. It’s lightweight, has thumbholes, and has a good size pocket in the back. And it’s perfectly warm and water resistant.

Rich Tabbut: Asthma mask — not my favorite, but medically necessary.

Annie Miller: I can’t run without my “Heater Hog” long sleeve base layer from Brooks Running! Sweatwicking, keeps me warm and doesn’t get drenched post-run so that I don’t get sick from the cold wind.

Wicked Grand Prix Series Re-cap T.R. Ramsdell

Well, it’s over. The 2013 WGP Series has come to a close. We had 209 different members participate in the series which covered 8 regular races and 3 relays. Distances ranged from one mile to half marathon, with 6 others in between. We had only one male and one female that were able to complete every race in the series, and they are Rick Marciano and Marissa Rodriguez. Congrats to them and to all of you that ran in the series. The last relay of the year was the Mill Cities relay on Dec 8. Wicked sent 11, five-person teams to the 30th annual event this year. One of only 20 clubs in this invitational event, Wicked finished a club best 6th place for 2013. We even earned a 3rd place brick by our “Wicked Fast Chicks” women’s open team, and just missed another by 16 seconds for our Men’s Masters team. Great showing for this annual favorite.

The last regular race in the series was The Festivus 5K which had been postponed to Dec. 22 due to snow. This second year race had a great showing with 36 Wicked members taking part. Wicked took home the fastest team award thanks to Team Paulin (Mike and Tara) and Chris Nolin, who put up the 3 fastest club times. We had many other members who took home race bling as well. I just never get tired of hearing “Wicked” at awards ceremonies! Well, that’s it for 2013. I asked you all for your suggestions for the WGP Series next year, and I’ve heard from a couple of you. I’ll be making a list and checking it twice, so stay tuned to see if one of your favorites makes the cut. As always, I ask you to be sure and wear your Wicked gear when you’re out there racing. I can’t cheer for you if I can’t spot you quickly in a crowd. And everyone likes to be cheered, right?

Wicked Kudos From Julie Arrison: To T.R. Ramsdell for coordinating the WRC for MCR…and to the Wicked Fast Chicks who placed third and brought home a brick for the club! From Shannon Downey: Special thanks to my awesome hubby and favorite training partner, Billy Hutchinson, for making sure I have all of my essential gear before any race. He always asks: “Do you have your lipstick?” That’s true love. Special thanks to Amber Woolfenden for giving me the best gift a girl could get: an invitational entry into the 2014 Boston Marathon! Amber, even after the rough year you’ve had, you still manage to be an awesome person and friend. Thank you! I can’t wait to run Boston with you! Editor’s note: I second that emotion.

Presidential Perspective T.R. Ramsdell

As 2013 came to a close, many made resolutions for the upcoming year. Some will be kept, some not. Maybe it’s to look for a new job. Perhaps to work out, or run more. Maybe drop a few pounds. Whatever they may be, I wish you luck. I’ve never made resolutions. I prefer to look back on the passing year and reflect. As far as our club goes, Wicked grew to over 350 members this year. We had a tremendous increase in participation with our WGP Series, including the relays. Our team numbers improved and garnered Wicked some great bling at every outing. I’m seeing a lot of new faces at all of our events, whether it’s one of our social gatherings and outings, or even at race committees and planning meetings. It’s great to see new members step up, or a few of our veteran members come out of mothballs to help out. Thank you to all who help in any way possible to make our club a better place to be. So for 2014, let’s continue to do whatever we can to keep Wicked forging ahead. If it’s been a while since you’ve sat on a committee, volunteer. Maybe you’ve never tried a team relay before. This is the year to give it a shot. If you have any questions about any of these things, Ask. The BOD is here to help you. You can send any of us an email with a question or suggestion. All our emails are listed on the web site. Don’t be afraid to ask if you’ve got a question. We love talking about Wicked. To all of you, I wish you the very best for 2014, and hope you receive all that you seek.
