February important month of recognition, reflection

FRONT RANGE Please pardon our dust. As the MMAC Monthly continues to grow and evolve, things will keep changing. In the coming months several differences will be seen throughout the paper.

This month, one of the biggest noticeable changes is a slightly different size. In an effort to keep improving the product we offer, we have chosen a new printer.

We appreciate your patience as we work with this new printing partner to

create a product that looks even better than before. We hope you like the new look, other changes already made and those to come.

Although the shortest, February is an important month of recognition. It’s Black History Month, American Heart Month and Valentine’s Day, which gives everyone the chance to single-out those we care about the most is Feb. 14.

It’s also when we recognize Abraham Lincoln’s birthday on his actual birth date, Feb. 12, and President’s

Day, Feb. 20. As the first Republican president, he is credited with saving the Union, wrote the Emancipation Proclamation to end slavery in the U.S. and wrote the Gettysburg Address, among other accomplishments.

The ideals of the Declaration, he believed, belonged to all Americans whose “fathers” did not live in America in 1776. He called on Americans to readopt the central ideals of the revolutionary generation and to carry those ideals forward in their own lifetimes.

u 43rd Annual Wells Fargo Ski Cup

This year, Feb. 22-25, commemorates the 43rd consecutive year of the Wells Fargo Ski Cup in Winter Park.

The event, the longest running professional ski race in the country, serves as a signature fundraiser for the National Sports Center for the Disabled. The Corporate Challenge on Saturday has skiers and snowboarders from corporate teams racing against each other to claim bragging rights and prizes. A NSCD Competition Center athlete races on each team for cash prizes to help finance training for the Paralympics. On Sunday, the Kids of Wells Fargo Ski Cup allows guests ages 5-12 to race the same course as professionals. Mascots from Winter Park and Colorado sports teams ski in the Kids Snowplow Sprint. The World Disabled Invitational on Sunday has professional athletes from around the world competing for cash prizes in a race unlike any other. Other events include a two-day silent auction, Wells Fargo hospitality tent, tubing to raise funds for the NSCD and the Ski for NSCD Pledge Drive. New bluegrass festival welcomes top acoustic talent to Stanley Hotel ESTES PARK he Stanley Hotel hosts the Stan Jam, its first concert weekend “dedicated to bluegrass, friends and family,” Feb. 23-24. The event features a collection of many of the best Colorado acoustic musicians alongside nationally touring headliners The Del McCoury Band and Jeff Austin Band in the 109-year-old Stanley Concert Hall.

“While there are a number of great bluegrass festivals across the state, Stan Jam offers an intimate connection between artist and fan,” Stanley Spokesperson Reed Rowley said. “The capacity is very exclusive with less than 400 tickets available.”

The music kicks-off Friday evening with Denver-based Modern Whiskey Market, which gets the party started at a special craft beer welcome reception from 3:30-6:30 p.m. After dark, Idaho Springs-based Rapidgrass takes the stage beginning at 8 p.m. The acclaimed ensemble uses classical, gypsy, bluegrass, pop, swing, and other world rhythms to create a style of music they call “rapid-grass.” The night culminates with a “high-energy performance”

“There’s always been something magical about making music in the Colorado mountains in the wintertime.

Music series hosts rising bluegrass acts

LYONS Lyons’ volunteer-run non-profit concert series High Street Concerts welcomes up-and-coming Colorado-based acoustic acts Masontown and The Lonesome Days to Rogers Hall, 400 High St. in Lyons, Feb. 10 at 8 p.m.

Masontown, a young band with a BLUE“concept as timeless as the Rocky GRASS Mountains,” incudes a lauded fiddle champion and classical violinist, a veteran bluegrass mandolin player and composer, a Colorado jazz guitar great reborn as a flatpicking sensation, and an upright bassist with roots running deep in the classical and jazz traditions.

The band’s sound is an exciting take on the American acoustic tradition. At once fresh and familiar, the group unites the sounds of bluegrass, old-time, folk, and new acoustic music into a sonic melting pot that hearkens back to our deep musical traditions while remaining defiantly modern in conception.

Members include Eric Wiggs on guitar, Natalie Padilla on fiddle, Mike Canney on mandolin and Bradley Morse on bass.

From the beginning of The Lonesome Days in 2014, the Denver band has evolved into a “tight-knit four-piece ensemble with a common vision to create great original music mixed in with timeless classics.”

Band members’ authentic songwriting and musicianship brings emotion, power and soul to the music.

The “soulful bluegrass” band took Second place at the 2015 and 2017 Telluride Bluegrass Festival band competitions and First place at the 2016 UllrGrass competition. Members include Jonny Miller on mandolin, Sam Parks on guitar, Todd Lilienthal on banjo and Bradley Morse on bass.

Formed in January 2014, Dusty Green Bones Band is a five-piece, electric newgrass group based out of California’s Bay Area. ‘Powerful’ singer hosts Valentine’s concert GEORGETOWN Hazel Miller has been called “a force of nature” and her voice described as “stunning, moving and powerful.” Performing in Colorado for the past three decades, the Hazel Miller Band performs an eclectic blend of jazz, R&B, blues, gospel and original music.

JAZZ The act performs a special Valentine’s Day weekend concert, Feb. 10 from 7-10 p.m., at the Georgetown Heritage Center, 809 Taos St. The concert, part of the Center’s Devil Moon Series, is Cabaret style and features heavy hors d’oeuvres and cash bar.

Miller’s music, designed to “excite and involve the audience,” is both familiar and unique. Voted “Best R&B Band” in Denver for 2017 in Westword, the band has also toured North America, Europe, Asia, Middle East and Central America.

ESTES PARK The monthly Upstream Concert Series at the intimate 225-seat Historic Park Theater continues, Feb. 9 from 6-11 p.m., with an “incredible” evening of Latin dance music fused with bluegrass. The “LatinGrass!” concert features Nederland-based LATIN musicians Bridget Law of ElGRASS ephant Revival and Silas Herman of Gipsy Moon performing with 11-piece Latin Grass act ONDA, also from Nederland. Hattie and Hayley, another Nederland act, opens the show.

A “fusion” taco bar by Hunter’s Chop House from 6-9 p.m. is included, and the theater’s full bar will be open.

“This is a rare, unprecedented opportunity to experience a fusion of LatinGrass and bluegrass music of this magnitude with these artists,” Roberto Sequeira of ONDA said. “By any measure, this will be musically the most explosive,

compelling LatinGrass set ever. Bridget and Silas are ascending stars — both personal friends of mine who I love and admire and with whom I have shared special moments on the mountain and the stage. This will be the culmination and celebration of what we do best in Colorado.”

ONDA has been “blazing this trail of LatinGrass” for a decade. “It started with my ski buddies Alex Johnstone of RapidGrass and Andy Thorn of Leftover Salmon jamming with ONDA after raging pow all day at Eldora,” Sequeira said.

Saturday afternoon begins three bands in the Stanley Hotel’s MacGregor Ballroom. Denver’s Woodbelly, which blends traditional bluegrass with modern songwriting, kicks it off at 2 p.m.

The Lonesome Days, a Denver act creating “original music mixed in with timeless classics,” takes the stage at 3:15 p.m. The Side Hustlers, a Lyonsbased bluegrass act featuring Dusty Rider, Natalie Padilla and KC Groves, plays from 5-6 p.m.

Hitting the main stage in the concert hall from 7:30-8:30 p.m. is Estes Park-based high-energy string band Chain Station. “This is about more than music,” Jon Pickett said. “Stan Jam is a community gathering for all those with a bluegrass heart and soul... and we’re definitely ready to show off some local talent.”

The headliner Saturday night is bluegrass icon Del McCoury and the Del McCoury Band — featuring his sons Ronnie on mandolin and Rob on banjo — from 9-10:30 p.m. Having performed for more than 50 years, including Bill Monroe’s Blue Grass Boys, there are few who have influenced the genre as much a McCoury.

Austin will “raise the dead and rattle the spirits” at a Saturday after-party from 11-12:30 a.m.

NOTEWORTHY The Gael - The Gael

N

ederland-based acoustic act The Gael releases its self-titled debut CD, Feb. 15. The band will perform tunes from the recording at the Very Nice Brewing Company from 6-8:30 p.m. to celebrate. The CD, recorded by Ted Zychlinski at Snowline Studio with minimal overdubbing, consists of a lively collection of 14 Celtic and “eclectic instrumental tunes.”

Regular band members include hammered dulcimer champion Laura Fisher, Debbie Smiley on fiddle, Phylleri Ball on bodhran and accordion and Bill Ikler on guitar. On the new recording, Nederland-native Ryan Farris joins in on fiddle, penny whistle and mandolin. Similar to its live shows, the CD features a mix of Celtic and contemporary acoustic music ranging from bluegrass and old-time to Gypsy. There are bluegrass standards, polkas, jigs, waltzes, reels and more.

If for no other reason, The Gael recorded their first CD due to popular demand.

“We always have folks ask us at gigs if we have a CD, so we recorded The Gael live in the studio to get a more spontaneous sound that we could reproduce live,” Ikler said.

The mostly instrumental acoustic band is known for its monthly “Celtic Session” events every third Thursday of the month at the Very Nice Brewing Company, 20 Lakeview Dr. in Nederland. Musicians are invited to play along while everyone else is welcome to listen and sample a local pint. The act has also performed at special events in their hometown including a recent Nederland Food Pantry benefit.

Telling Stories

GILPIN COUNTY vergreen-based photographer Gale Gatto feels “privileged” to live “alongside a variety of animals and birds.

She also relishes in capturing their image — and telling their story — in a photo.

Gatto’s award-winning work will be on display at the Gilpin County Public Library, Feb. 3-March 31, in her solo “The Wild and Wooly Rockies” show.

“Although I am primarily a landscape photographer, I enjoy the challenge of photographing wildlife whenever I get the chance,” Gatto said. “Many of the photographs in this show are of visitors to my home; others were taken in our amazing National Parks. Some are new, some are old favorites. Regardless, each photo tells a story.”

Showing her work as often as possible, Gale has garnered many awards. Her favorites are those where she competes against different media. Winning “Best of Show” in 2009 for her photo of Evergreen Lake at the “Paint Sculpt and Shoot” event at Evergreen Center for the Arts was “very special.” She also won a contest commemorating Golden’s 150th anniversary by public vote. Her image was made into a two-story banner.

Film festival captures winter’s spirit NEDERLAND

DeLonde House and Barn at Caribou Ranch Open Space

Artist-in-residence sought by county BOULDER COUNTY The Boulder County Parks & Open Space Department is now accepting applications for the 2018 Artist-in-Residence Program at Caribou Ranch Open Space. Online applications will be accepted until Thursday, Feb. 15.

The program provides an opportunity for artists to pursue their work in the inspiring landscape and history of Caribou Ranch. Musicians, painters, illustrators, photographers, visual/film artists, sculptors, performers, poets, writers, composers, and crafts/artisans are all welcome to apply.

Each year, from July through September, selected artists stay in the historic DeLonde Barn at Caribou Ranch Open Space for up to seven days. By sharing their art with Boulder County, artists can add to residents’ enjoyment of their open space lands and create a legacy of art preserved for future generations.

The open space property offers a variety of landscapes to explore including streams, waterfalls, forests, and beautiful vistas. Moose, elk, black bears, beavers, bats, and nearly 90 species of birds live within or pass through the area. Also found on the property is the Blue Bird Mine complex where miners from the 1870s to the 1960s extracted silver ore.

In the early 1900s, the site was a whistle stop for the Denver, Boulder & Western Railroad.

Immerse yourself in a night of films “capturing the spirit of winter” and support the Wild Bear Nature Center, Feb. 15 from 6-9 p.m., at the Backcountry Film Festival in The Backdoor Theatre. The event features an award-winning lineup of films focusing on adventure, environment, climate, youth outdoors and ski culture.

The festival includes The Space Within, a film about FILM a young boy who finds a mysterious treasure washed upon the rock while exploring tidepools on a deserted tropical beach; Ruth Gorge, a short expedition skiing piece set in Alaska; the animated short film Below 0, The End of Snow, which features Dr. Jane Zelikova, a tropical ecologist living in the mountains of Wyoming and Colorado; Follow Through, about skier Caroline Gleich; Genesis, which follows a trio of powder professors ascending Alaska’s Chugach, Idaho 12vers Project, a self-filmed venture to ski all of Idaho’s 12,000-foot peaks, and Adventure Not War, which showcases an effort to promote world peace and understanding through adventure.

The Backcountry Film Festival is produced each year by Winter Wildlands Alliance as a “celebration of the human-powered experience and a gathering place for the backcountry snowsports community.” Winter Wildlands Alliance is a nonprofit organization working at the national level to inspire and educate the backcountry community to protect and care for their winter landscapes. Funds raised support Wild Bear’s SnowSchool and winter education.

Wild Bear Nature Center, the only all ages non-profit nature center in Boulder County, has been connecting people of all ages with snowshoeing in the high country since 2005. David “BigFoot” Felkley, local snowshoeing guru and guide volunteered for Wild Bear to set up programs for youth at Nederland Elementary School and later volunteered to take groups of all ages out to play on snowshoes on trails in the local forest.

Felkley’s mantra was to wait until the day of the event to determine the “best snow” and the best trails. When “BigFoot” passed away in 2014, he left a legacy fund for Wild Bear to purchase its own supply of youth and adult snowshoes. Now, Wild Bear has become known in the region as a top notch Winter Ecology on Snowshoes youth program as well as a place to rent shoes and find the best trail. Most recently, Wild Bear has partnered with Winter Wildlands Alliance out of Idaho to become an official “snow school” and serves schools from throughout the region.

Breast cancer focus of two new books BOULDER COUNTY For two Boulder County authors, breast cancer made an indelible mark on each of their lives. Now, Jennifer Lynch of Boulder and Cristina Trapani-Scott of Lyons are each set to release books that explore their individual experiences as caregiver and survivor. They will launch their books at Lyons Regional Library, Feb. 28 at 6:30 p.m.

FUCK CANCER: A Tale of Love Pouring in from Every Angle, Lynch’s debut book of nonfiction “explores the depths of female friendship amidst the hellish ride of breast cancer.” In her book, Lynch chronicles her personal journey returning home to be by her oldest friend’s side as she battled breast cancer. Degas exhibit exclusive to Denver DENVER Opening Feb. 11 at the The Denver Art Museum, Degas: A Passion for Perfection showcases more than 100 works by prolific French artist Edgar Degas, dating from 1855 to 1906. The paintings, drawings, pastels, etchings, monotypes and sculptures in bronze — includFINE ART ing well-known masterpieces — will focus on the most prominent and recurring themes throughout Degas’ career. These include his interest in learning from the art of the past and of his contemporaries, a lifelong fascination with the nude, a passion for horses and a strong interest in opera and dance.

The DAM, 100 W. 14th Avenue Pkwy., is the sole American venue for this exhibition. Visitors will see his transformation from a portraitist and painter of historical subjects to one interested in the contemporary life of late 19th-century Paris. By experimenting constantly throughout his career Degas developed techniques that allowed him to capture modern subject matter through sharp and precise lighting, such as café concerts, street scenes with new electric lamps, sporting events and theatrical settings.

Additional works on view by J.A.D. Ingres, Eugène Delacroix and Paul Cézanne will add depth to the exhibition’s narrative.

Gatto’s photography is a product of her “unique perspective” and her “techniques for capturing light.”

From a young age, she has been “captivated by art and the beauty which surrounds us.” With photography, she learned “how to capture the glory of the natural world; continually challenged by the concept of transferring ideas and perceptions onto paper.”

The photographer, who grew up in Detroit, began showing her work in Taos in the 1980s where the National Forest was her backyard and “the mountains and the exquisite light of New Mexico filled the horizons.” Living along the Rio Grand River migratory route brought many beautiful birds to her and her camera, which led to photography of the “fourlegged critters who lived near her home” and were found in the National Parks she visited. She also shoots landscapes and panoramas.

Gatto’s work challenges viewers to “look around” and see the beauty surrounding us. “It is everywhere, if you can just see,” she said. Her photos also demonstrate her belief “intimate backyard beauty can be as great as that of our awe-inspiring national parks.”

LYONS Oskar Blues’ Old Man Winter Bike Rally and Run—epic winter celebration of dirt, snow, sweat and beer—promises adventure for die-hard cyclists and runners when it returns for the fourth time to Sandstone Park in Lyons, Feb. 11 from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. The event — which draws more than 1,000 participants — was created to be the winter adventure event with two bike courses and a running course. It is the only winter cycling festival that offers Boulder’s best riding to cyclists of all levels.

Cycling courses include a 50km option for a scenic spin along the paved and gravel farm roads on the east side of the Foothills Highway or a 100km course to tackle extra miles over beautiful rolling gravel roads north to the famed Carter Lake before returning back to Lyons.

The 5.4-mile run is out and back in a red rock canyon that incorporates sections of the everpopular Picture Rock Trail and “Lyons Fruit Loops.” It’s truly a “Best of Lyons’ course with big views, minimal elevation gain, and mixed terrain.

All participants get luxury aid stations with real food and hydration, a hot meal and a cold beer at the finish line, and a “killer post-ride party with great music, contests, and a massive raffle.”

The top three men and women will receive over $500 in prizes for each of the 50km running and bike races. The winners of the 100km course receive $500 for first, $300 for second, $200 for third, $150 for fourth and $50 for fifth.

Also, along the course will be “Snow Flakes” which can be picked up for a guaranteed prize. It could be anything from a water bottle, gift card, KEEN Boots, a Patagonia beenie or even a custom REEB bike frame valued at over $1,500.

Mountaintop wedding includes two-for-one lift tickets, party

GEORGETOWN The 27th Annual Valentine’s Day Mountaintop Matrimony ceremony and reception, Feb. 14 from 8 a.m.-4 p.m., is a popular Loveland tradition where new couples are joined in matrimony and married couples renew their vows in a mass wedding at 12,050 feet at the top of the Ptarmigan Lift. The Honeymooner’s Apres Party for all participants and their guests follows the ceremony at the Loveland Basin featuring music, wedding cake, spirits and even a best dressed contest. Participating couples must preregister online in order to receive a special Marry Me Ski for Free 2-for-1 lift ticket special.

The ceremony is a “mass wedding” done for all couples at the same time and lasts approximately 30 minutes. Chili dinner, auction supports fire department GILPIN COUNTY More than 400 people are expected to attend the annual High Country Auxiliary Chili Dinner & Silent Auction, March 3 from 5-7 p.m., at the Gilpin County Community Center, 250 Norton Dr., Black Hawk. The event is the largest fundraiser for the non-profit, which supports the volunSPECIAL teers of Timberline Fire and Gilpin EVENT County Animal Response Team. It’s also a great way to visit with mountain neighbors after months of winter.

The all-you-can-0eat chili dinner is $9 for adults and $4 for children under 12.

An annual silent auction is also very popular and normally consists of close to 250 items, including gift certificates, gift cards, locally crafted art and items from local businesses. The auction begins at 5 p.m. and ends at 7 p.m. Proceeds help the group get something for Timberline including EMT classes or equipment. Bidders are asked to stay until the end to pickup and pay for their purchases. To donate items, call Wanda at 303-582-3206.

Timerline Fire and the High Country Auxiliary encompasses most of rural Gilpin County and part of western Boulder County. The group provides volunteers food and water in emergency situations, purchases needed non-budgeted equipment and provides scholarship funding for further fire fighting training.

From 2008-2017, the Auxiliary has contributed a total of $141,623.23 to Timberline. In 2017, it paid $17,000 to move one of Timberline’s radio antennas. The auxiliary is entirely self-supporting and receives no tax or grant money.

Ice fishing tournament returns to Georgetown Lake

Fat Tuesday event features cook-off, more ESTES PARK American Legion Post 119, Lumpy Ridge Brewery, Elkins Distilling and Estes Arts District host a Fat Tuesday Mountain Mardi Gras Party, Feb. 13 at 6 p.m. Attendees are encouraged to wear costumes or masks for a chance to win prizes in a contest.

The event, which is open to the public, includes Louisiana-inspired food and drink, Mardi Gras beads, party favors, live music by Nexus and King Cake. Entry is $5 at the door and includes a shot at the bar. Craft beverages including Hurricanes with Elkins Whisky will be available for purchase along with red beans and rice. All proceeds benefit the work of the American Legion Post 119, including a variety of scholarships.

The centerpiece of the party is a Gumbo Cook Off at 7 p.m. featuring “know-it-all” judges to select the best and most authentic gumbo. First prize is $100, while Second and Third place win $50. A minimum of three gallons of gumbo is required and rice will be provided. An entry fee is required to enter, but participants are allowed to sell their product.

Model railroading enthusiasts gather ESTES PARK

Rails in the Rockies is a premier model railroad show event developed and hosted by the Estes Valley Model Railroaders, Feb. 17-18, at the Estes Park Events Complex, 1125 Rooftop Way. This year, the organization celebrates the show’s 21st anniversary. Adults are $7 and children 12 and under are free.

The working exhibits include models of trains from many regions of the United States as well as selected models of British railroads, all of which have been crafted in detail by dedicated model railroaders from all over Colorado. Children will enjoy the “Kids Layout” where they can actually operate model trains themselves.

The Estes Valley Model Railroaders club is open to all who are interested in trains, model railroading, the history of railroads, traveling on trains, teamwork with others who are interested in model railroading and encouraging the art and craft of model railroading. It meets the first Wednesday of the month at 6:30 p.m. at the Estes Valley Public Library. Guests and visitors are welcome.

GOING Mobile Renowned snowmobiling is short drive from Front Range FRONT RANGE ombining the thrill of a high-speed ride with snowy alpine scenery, snowmobiling is popular throughout Colorado. With more than 3,000 miles of snowmobiling trails throughout the state, finding a place to rent, repair or provide a guided tour is not difficult. Also, the area’s national forests are laced with snowmobile trails that provide one of the fastest and most exhilarating ways to explore Colorado’s beautiful backcountry.

Since much of the Front Range mountains north of Interstate 70 are within close proximity to wilderness areas and Rocky Mountain National Park, where snowmobiling is banned, enthusiasts must look to locations in Clear Creek County or neighboring Summit and Grand counties for what is considered world-class terrain along with more favorable snow and wind conditions.

Once in an approved area, snowmobilers can wind in and out of forests, rev up and down hills, play in meadows of powder, carve across ridge tops and ride full throttle on cruiser trails.

Most importantly, if new to the sport or an experienced veteran, pay special attention to all avalanche warnings and contact the Colorado Avalanche Information Center by calling 970-482-0457 or 303-499-9650 before heading into the backcountry.

Although the trails are limited, snowmobiles can be rented in Estes Park at Backbone Adventures. Keep in mind, snowmobiling in the Estes Park area is not like snowmobiling anywhere else. It is much more difficult. Trails are uneven, bumpy, and hilly. According to the rental company, “people either love it or hate it. Riding a sled here is work and requires a lot of leaning and man-handling. ” For more consistent trails and conditions, head to Clear Creek County. Before hitting the backcountry at any popular snowmobiling areas, stop in Selfsponsored Snow & Dirt off Interstate 70 in Dumont. The small shop offers belts, oils and apparel for trips up the mountain and replacement parts for mishaps on the way back down. They also offer rental machines.

Further west in the county, snowmobilers enjoy Jones Pass Road Trail, which is on U.S. 40 past Empire and Berthoud Falls on the way to the Henderson Mine. Fall River Reservoir off Fall River Road on the way to St. Mary’s Glacier is also popular. Stevens Gulch at the I-70 Bakerville exit is another hot spot in Clear Creek County.

With more than 1,000 miles of snowmobiling trails throughout Grand County, the only dilema you’ll face is where to start. With hot spots like Rabbit Ears Pass in Kremmling, the Arapaho National Forest near Winter Park and Fraser, or the base of Indian Peaks near Granby, some of the best terrain in the state is located in the county.

Grand Adventures in Winter Park provides an opportunity to ride five locations including the Continental Divide on snowmobiling trails “as you never have before.” Tours top out at nearly 12,000 feet with views of the entire Winter Park Ski area and the Fraser Valley. The trip is perfect for the beginner to intermediate rider and families looking to experience Colorado’s backcountry on a snowmobile.

Colorado Adventure Park near Winter Park Resort lets children get in on the fun. The park rents Snow Scoots, or mini snowmobiles, for young “speed seekers.” Kids 6-13 years old can practice for pro terrain on a groomed track within the park’s boundaries.

From December through April, snowmobiling enthusiasts from across Colorado and around the world come to Grand Lake, to enjoy more than 300 miles of snowmobiling trails, including 150 miles of groomed trails. The town’s streets become snowy rights of way for snowmobilers as long as there’s snow on the ground, making it easy to get on the trails and back into town for snacks in between runs.

Continental Divide views abound on the trails near town in the Arapaho National Forest along the western border of Rocky Mountain National Park.

Summit Counthy is another hot spot for snowmobiling. Several outfitters offer rentals and tours, while local shops can handle all repair and parts needs. Possible perks to Breckenridge snowmobiling include unparalleled views from the Continental Divide and well-groomed trails in the White River National Forest. One popular groomed area to ride is Georgia Pass Road, which is closed to all vehicular traffic except snowmobiles from late November to late May. The pass’ 11,585-foot summit offers lovely panoramas of Breckenridge, Keystone and Copper Mountain.

Keystone Snowmobile Rentals offers the perfect opportunity to explore Colorado’s largest commercial trail system at your own pace, with more than 55,000 acres of terrain atop Vail Pass.
