Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

Willamalane welcomes all community members and staff of all identities. We recognize that people from oppressed groups have not always had full access to parks and recreation. Willamalane is committed to taking action against oppression by:

• Creating inclusive spaces where everybody feels welcome and valued.

• Identifying and removing obstacles to belonging.

• Improving accessibility for indoor and outdoor spaces throughout the district.

• Improving training, resources, recruitment, accountability, and work environment practices.

• Expanding outreach to oppressed community groups.

Willamalane invites all community members and staff to embrace its values: respect, engagement, collaboration, and safety. For more information, visit willamalane.org/dei

Parks are more than just beautiful spaces; they provide a sense of belonging and community. With five recreational facilities, 46 parks, and more than 1,500 acres of natural areas you have endless opportunities to be active, connect with nature, and make unforgettable memories in Springfield. Stroll through the historic orchards at Dorris Ranch, or let your dog run free in the off-leash dog park at Lively Park. Try the mountain bike trails at Thurston Hills Natural Area or the skateboard park at Willamalane Park for an adrenaline rush.

Created by voters in 1944, Willamalane is a special tax district, located within but separate from the city of Springfield, governed by a fivemember, elected board of directors and managed by an executive director. Willamalane has been nationally recognized as a two-time Gold Medal agency by the National Parks and Recreation Association. In 2022, Willamalane was awarded the prestigious CAPRA accreditation, recognizing its alignment with industry best practices and placing it among the nation’s top-tier park and recreation districts.
