Dog Training

Ages 18+. Weekly dog training classes start at the beginning of each month. When it’s time for class, check in at the main entrance of Bob Keefer Center. Registration is required.

PUPPY CLASS

This beginning-level dog training class is for puppies between 8 and 20 weeks old who have received the DHLPP vaccinations and for other small dogs with instructor approval.

BEGINNING BASIC MANNERS

This weekly beginning-level class will teach your dog the basics of good behavior, including commands like watch, sit, down, come, stay, wait, greet, and more. No prerequisite.

INTERMEDIATE/CANINE GOOD CITIZEN

This weekly intermediate-level dog training class will help reinforce the basics of good manners and obedience, teach new skills, instill the values of responsible ownership, and strengthen the bond between you and your dog. Prerequisite: Beginning Basic Manners.

ADVANCED/CANINE GOOD CITIZEN

This weekly class at Bob Keefer Center will teach your dog advanced good behavior techniques and prepare them for the AKC Canine Good Citizen certification test. This class also includes trick training. Prerequisite: Intermediate/Canine Good Citizen.

GET-TOGETHER PASS

Ages 50+. Access all the activities in the adult activity center lobby with the Get-Together Pass. The center’s activities are a great way to spend free time during the day, make new friends, and improve your overall well-being. Get yours at the front desk. Scholarships are available. This pass is valid for one year from the date of purchase.

COFFEE CONNECTION: Enjoy all-you-can-sip coffee or tea for 50 cents, then sit down, relax, read the paper, or meet new friends. Free baked goods are available several times a week.

MONDAY-FRIDAY 9am–12pm

COMPUTER ACCESS: Use a computer for one hour at a time, up to two hours per day. Two free print-outs are included if needed.

CONVERSATIONS WITH WOMEN: Join other women to exchange ideas in a group discussion format.

FRIENDSHIP CIRCLE: Friendly people meet to talk and share ideas. You steer the conversation with the goal of meeting and deepening relationships with others.

CENTRAL OREGON COAST

Newport. The central Oregon Coast is an ideal year-round habitat for a wide variety of birds including shorebirds, wading birds, waterfowl, wintering coastal birds, raptors, and songbirds. Bring a sack lunch and beverage.

MINTO BROWN ISLAND & TALKING WATER GARDENS

Albany. Minto Brown Island offers diverse habitats including significant habitats for Western Bluebirds and Willow Flycatchers. Trumpeter Swans and Dusky Canada Geese use the ponds for roosting. We will also visit Talking Water Gardens, an engineered water treatment wetland inspired by the environment. The wetland cells mimic the cleansing and cooling processes that occur in nature providing habitat for wildlife including over 100 species of birds and waterfowl. Bring a sack lunch and beverage.

Ages 13+. Strap on a pair of snowshoes and take a 3-mile round-trip tour along the Pacific Crest Trail. Enjoy scenic views and snowy wilderness with an experienced guide leading the way. This day trip is perfect for beginning and moderate skill levels. All gear, safety, transportation, and basic instruction are provided. Bring a sack lunch and water. The location may change based on snowpack. An adult must accompany children under the age of 16.
