The Lanes
Kemp Town
Probably the most lively area of Brighton with its quirky shops where you’ll find vintage clothes, furniture and just about anything nestling alongside tattoo and piercing parlours, independent bars, coffee shops and restaurants. At the end of Kensington Gardens you’ll regularly find remarkably good buskers to linger and listen to for a while. It is also a lively residential area mix of folk who’ve lived there for generations boosted by young professionals and commuters.
Once the heart of the fishing town of Brighthelmstone, this historic quarter is the place to catch yourself something special. In this fabulous maze of twisting alleyways and twittens you’ll find an extraordinary mix of antiques and jewellery shops alongside independant contemporary and designer fashion boutiques. With the odd busker popping up here and there to serenade your way and a plethora of restaurants and coffee shops you can happily spend many days exploring.
Considered to be the LGBT centre of Brighton it has now developed into a home to a veritable melting pot of many nations who have found their way to this seaside haven. This has led to an ever growing, bustling area of local shops restaurants and pubs which have served this area’s rainbow of residents since the 18th century. When the sun goes down Kemp Town becomes flypaper to visitors and Brightonians alike frequenting its many restaurants, bars and clubs.
Churchill Square And City Centre
Hove
Marina
George Street and New Church Road has more of a ‘local’ feel to it; an appealing village unique atmosphere of tired opulence and a very popular area for overseas visitors. Here you’ll find a profusion of individual shops of all kinds including delis, interior design, organic greengrocers, clothes designers alongside smaller high street basics. It is also regular home to a French market selling a variety of locally grown produce.
Whereas this is still a working marina there is also much more of a laid back atmosphere here. The emphasis is upon entertainment as much as shopping in its independent shops and supermarket. A casino, sports club, cinema complex, bowling alley, restaurants and bars nestle together. Wander along the boardwalk where you can linger over a coffee and/or meal whilst people watching and gazing out to sea.

Then they do a terrific range of fresh salads or omelettes with garnish. They also offer a fantastic
selection of burgers from a plain hamburger to thousand island burger or you could even be adventurous and opt for one of their Hawaiian or chilli burgers for something a bit different. Sunday lunch is always a big attraction and you’ll have the choice of a set menu from £8.50 per person. There’s a special kids’ menu with smaller portions at fantastic prices. Buddies welcome all parties of people from birthdays to hen and stag events and students get an amazing 20% off food Sunday to Thursday if they show their NUS card (except bank holidays and Christmas Day). Buddies is also a fully licensed bar so pop in if you fancy drinks on the way to a night out or even on your way home for a nightcap. buddies24hour.net
