The Boss Baby 7th, In Cinemas A suit wearing, briefcase carrying baby teams up with his seven year old brother to stop the dastardly plot of the CEO of Puppy Co. in this animated comedy from Dreamworks. Alec Baldwin stars as the voice of the baby alongside Steve Buscemi, Lisa Kudrow, Jimmy Kimmel and Tobey Maguire in his first animated film. Former voice actor and ‘Megamind’ helmer, Tom McGrath directs.

Aftermath 7th, In Cinemas ‘Aftermath’ tells the story of guilt and revenge after an air traffic controller’s error causes the death of a construction foreman’s wife and daughter. Based on a real-life air crash, the “Uberlingen midair collision” which occurred in 2002, this stars Arnold Schwarzeneggar, the excellent Scoot McNairy from ‘Halt and Catch Fire’ and is directed by Elliott Lester who will be bringing us ‘Sleepwalker’ later this year.

Fast & Furious 8 14th, In Cinemas The high octane franchise races on in a story that reportedly honors the late Paul Walker’s wish of going back to more street racing instead of relying on special effects and huge action sequences. With an interesting cast that includes Vin Diesel, Dwayne Johnson, Charlize Theron, Jason Statham, Kurt Russell, Michelle Rodriguez, Ludicris and Helen Mirren this could be one for the purists.

The Sense of an Ending 14th, In Cinemas Based on the best selling novel by Julian Barnes and adapted for the screen by Nick Payne this tells the tale of a man haunted by his past who is presented with a mysterious legacy that causes him to rethink his current situation in life. Charlotte Rampling, Jim Broadbent, Emily Mortimer and Michelle Dockery star. Ritesh Batra, director of ‘The Lunchbox’ oversees.

Divino Wine Bar 63 Church Rd, Hove, BN3 2BD 01273 325553 divinowinebar.co.uk

It’s a Monday night in mid March and after a full on weekend and a Monday slogging in the office, I actually felt like just climbing into bed, but ‘date night’ had been planned and Divino Wine Bar was calling. What used to be The Green House, is now completely refurbished to a high modern standard with a wonderful ambience. As soon as we arrived we noticed other ‘daters’ and this coupled with the soothingwithout-being-cheesy background music, meant that we instantly felt we had chosen the right venue. The chef - Vincenzo from Napoli introduced himself and coming from a long line of great cooks I knew we were in for a treat! To start I had delicious scallops, my partner had king prawns. Both were satisfying to the pallet and the presentation of a very high standard. The perfectly timed main course followed, I had Sea Bass and my partner Rib Eye Steak, both dishes served on a bed of spring vegetables. The steak was drizzled in a homemade peppercorn sauce; cooked to my partner’s requirements and he said it was by far the best steak he had had in a long time. My Sea Bass was fresh, cooked to perfection and the little extra dipping oil was a nice touch. (Home made with lemon, garlic and parsley) Desserts were amazing - the white chocolate soufflé for me and my partner opted for sticky toffee pudding - simply divine! We followed this with delicious mocktails as recommended by our waitress, the lovely Bianca. We were really impressed with Divino. The detailed presentation, the food, the drinks and the service were all amazing. Fine dining at affordable prices in the heart of Hove. At weekends there is even a club downstairs of you fancy a boogie afterwards! If you want to take the family Divino are happy to accommodate children and have a huge garden. I will certainly be heading there again this spring! I highly recommend Divino you won’t be disappointed - five stars. Liz Gold 18

Snuff Weds 5th Sticky Mikes Frog Bar Formed in Hendon in 1986 this punk rock band gained its first exposure through Radio One’s John Peel show and went on to score a host of indie chart hits in the early nineties. They split up in 1991 but resurfaced three years later with a new sound. With numerous albums behind them the band celebrated their thirty year anniversary last year. stickymikesfrogbar.pub

New York Dollies Saturday 8th The Brunswick New York Dollies are Brighton-based Li Mills, Heather Urquhart and Kate Holder who came together after sharing a love of cake and posh 50s’ dresses. Dressed in vintage style with moves to match and accompanied simply by a ukulele, the New York Dollies sing punk and new wave covers in crazy doo-wop arrangements. The result is unique, unexpected and hilarious. Brunswickpub.co.uk

Steve Ignorant’s Slice of Life Sat 8th Hope & Ruin Best known as the lead singer of anarcho-punk band Crass, Ignorant’s latest project allows for the more contemplative side of his songwriting to reveal itself. Joined by Carol Hodge on piano, Pete Wilson on guitar and bassist Pete Rawlinson, the band has recently supported Sleaford Mods and, through their musical depictions of kitchen sink dramas, won over new fans. Laetitia Sadier Source Ensemble Weds 12th The Green Door Store French musician Lætitia Sadier, best known as the singer for the influential 90s’ alternative band Stereolab, returns to Brighton with an ensemble of musicians to promote her new album, ‘Finding Me, Finding You’ which includes a duet with Alexis Taylor from Hot Chip. Fresh from dates in the US, the ensemble embark on a huge tour of the UK. Thegreendoorstore.co.uk 24

Mon 17th Prince Albert Charlie Straw is a singer songwriter whose perfectionist dedication has won him acclaim from fans and critics alike. His debut single, ‘St Ives’ racked up a quarter of a million streams and he embarked on tour of the UK where he played thirty gigs in thirty days, staying on people’s sofas and making a documentary, ‘The Road To St Ives’ as he went. Loutpromotions.co.uk

BC Camplight – Solo Piano Tues 18th Komedia The New Jersey-born singer/ songwriter combines sunny indie pop with darker lyrical themes that reflect his personal struggles as he makes his highly anticipated return and will be playing an intimate solo show in Brighton tonight. The alterego of American songwriter Brian Christinzio released albums in 2005 and 2007, both gems of a certain psych-pop vintage, combining eloquent songwriting with a selfdestructive bent. Komedia.co.uk/brighton

Billy Ocean Mon 24th Brighton Dome Billy Ocean has achieved extraordinary success as both an artist and a songwriter. Having sold over thirty million records in his lifetime, he has collected a pile of Gold and Platinum records across the world and hit the number one spot worldwide on pop charts in the USA, Australia, Germany, Holland and the UK with classic songs such as ‘Caribbean Queen’ and ‘Suddenly’. Love Beat Presents Majestic

Sat 1st Coalition Time to roll out the red carpet – Majestic is coming to town. “The best live MC in the game” (says Mistajam), his House, Garage and Grime producing/DJing talents know no limits. Taking a break from Magaluf residencies and prime time Kiss FM slots, he’ll be in the first room with N:Fostell and Future Flex, with reggae, dancehall and bashment in the second. coalitionbrighton.com

Hollaback Girls

Fri 7th The Haunt The team behind 90s Hip Hop Sweatshop night held at the same venue present an evening dedicated to grrrl-powered RnB hits – think TLC, Queen Bey, Missy, Nicki, Rihanna, Kelis and co. Dress code: bindis, braids, glitter, a bag of swag and a sprinkling of cheese. Okay ladies, now let’s get in formation. (Particularly when it comes to ID – something they’re super strict on). hauntbrighton.co.uk

Sunday Club

Sun 9th Revenge Extend the weekend (in a month already packed with long ones) by dragging yourself out on a Sunday too. Perhaps the free pool and half price drinks deals will tempt you, if the fact you’ll get to bop to an eclectic mix of pop, cheese, dance and RnB courtesy of DJ Trick at one of Brighton’s leading gay venues weirdly doesn’t do it for you. revenge.co.uk

Gareth Emery

Thurs 13th Concorde 2 An Easter Thursday special, one of Brighton’s leading gigging and clubbing venues presents a three hour set from Cupa, AKA GTR, AKA Rue de Gar, AKA Runaway. His real name may be Emery, but you won’t be bored with his mix of progressive trance and tech house. Standerwick, Tall Paul, Craig Connelly and Dark Fusion will all be keeping him company on decks. concorde2.co.uk

Sub-liminal Extra

Sat 22nd The Volks Having hosted regular events at The Volks since 2011, drum and bass label Sub-liminal know how to handle a takeover. They’re easily capable of keeping the two rooms lit until dawn, helped with a bulging roster of DnB and dubstep artists, both known and fresh talent – Twisted Individual, DJ Agro, Too Greezey, Budha and Kong among them.
