This is a star-studded affair with an ensemble cast that features Johnny Depp, Michelle Pfeiffer, Penelope Cruz, Judi Dench, Willem Dafoe, Daisy Ridley, Olivia Colman, Derek Jacobi and a screenplay by ‘Logan’ and ‘Blade Runner 2049’ scribe Michael Green.

Paddington 2 10th, In Cinemas After the huge success of the first instalment in 2014 it was inevitable that we would see another outing for the nations’ favourite bear. Hugh Bonneville returns as the head of Paddington’s adopted family, the Browns, alongside Ben Wishaw and an impressive cast that includes Brendan Gleeson, Hugh Grant and Jim Broadbent. Paul King returns to direct and co writes the screenplay alongside Simon Farnaby.

Justice League 17th, In Cinemas After ‘Wonder Woman’ saved the dour DC Universe from oblivion, ‘Justice League’ now seems a much more exciting proposition. Wunderkind Joss Whedon has taken over from original director Zack Snyder and the studio hopes he will do for them what he did for Marvel. Ben Affleck’s Batman and Gal Gadot’s Amazon princess are joined by Aquaman, the Flash and Cyborg to battle cosmic super-villain Steppenwolf.

Suburbicon 24th, In Cinemas Matt Damon, Julianne Moore and Oscar Isaac star in this tale of a home invasion that rattles a quiet family town. George Clooney directs from a script by the Coen Brothers and is the first time that he hasn’t appeared in one of his own films. The stars, alongside Clooney, are Coen Brothers regulars and are joined by Glenn Fleshler, Sonia Gascon and Michael D. Cohen.

Chez Mal Bar, Malmaison 11 Mermaid Walk, Waterfront, Brighton Marina | 01273 041 482 malmaison.com/locations/brighton

Now you may not of thought about eating in a hotel, but think again. The Malmaison hotel in the marina is positioned overlooking the boats. The entrances are on two levels but worth seeking out. Once you arrive in the reception the view through the lounge is spectacular. The lounge and bar are very eclectic and design driven. I like it. For lunch I chose from the Chez Mal bar menu and they do a great mix of dishes, tapas style with a choice of £7.50 each, 3 for £20 or 4 for £24. I went for the 3 dishes. Dish 1: Picanha beef, chimichurri & tarragon mayonnaise – the beef was tender with a velvet texture. The chilli and tarragon blended well, good choice. Dish 2: Squid Tempura, sweet chilli jam – fresh and enough kick. Dish 3: Chicken liver parfait, chutney & toasted brioche – always a favourite of mine, but felt this particular one was slightly overkill on the crème fraiche which was placed on top of the liver pate, the pate was good and the brioche was salty (good for me). So with a bottle of sparkling water and an espresso macchiato to end, this was the perfect lunch. To be honest it was more than enough to eat, I had to squeeze the last few mouthfuls, but I did it! As a shared lunch it would work, plus the fact of the setting, be it blowing a force 9 or Mediterranean sun (terrace). Keep me a spot for next time. Justin Williams

Dinner

LiveMusic

Sat 19th Hope and Ruin Dinner is Danish music producer Anders Rhedin who is influenced as much by the art world as the music scene. Moving around before settling in Los Angeles and working for a while as a commercial pop songwriter, Anders soon realised that was not for him and set about crafting his own dark synth tunes. His second album, ‘New Works’ was released in September. hope.pub

Bonobo

Tues 21st Nov Brighton Centre Bonobo’s rise has been stealthy but Si Green, the man behind it all, is now one of the world’s biggest electronic artists. As a DJ and with the band, he’s played to millions of people across the world and each album has been bigger than the last with this years ‘Migration’, his sixth, hitting the top ten in the UK, Netherlands and Belgium. brightoncentre.co.uk

Dub Pistols

Thurs 23rd Nov Concorde 2 One of the hardest working bands in show-business, Barry Ashworth and his motley crew have added a much-needed swagger to the UK dance scene in recent years and their new album ‘Crazy Diamonds’ finds the band at their bass-driven best with a mix of dub, reggae, ska, punk, breaks, beats and drum ‘n’ bass including collaborations with Beenie Man, Cutty Ranks and Lindy Layton. concorde2.co.uk

BETSY

Tues 28th The Haunt With her powerhouse vocal range, ear for hooks, no-nonsense attitude and unerring ability to locate the sharpest grid references of heartache in music, Welsh songstress and fashion icon BETSY is a once-seen, never-forgotten pop proposition. Crossing elements of churchy soul, euphoric dance and soaring power ballads, her self-titled debut album is shot through with unflinching lyrical honesty, and draws from an unlikely musical background. thehauntbrighton.co.uk whatsonguide.co.uk
