October 16, 7:00 pm The 15th Annual Writers’ Workshop Series kicks off with alumna and author Jennifer duBois ’02. Join us for a public reading and discussion of her work. Ms. duBois is the first Williston alumna to participate in the program as both a student and as an author. The Dodge Room, Reed Campus Center October 22, 7:00 pm Acclaimed author and past Williston parent Anita Shreve will give a public reading and discussion of her work as part of Williston’s Writers’ Workshop. The Dodge Room, Reed Campus Center November 1, 7:00 pm Award-winning children’s book author Mo Willems joins us for the Writers’ Workshop series. The Dodge Room, Reed Campus Center November 8, 7:00 pm The Writers’ Workshop Series concludes with Mount Holyoke Professor and Acting Dean of the Faculty, Christopher Benfey, discussing his latest book, a memoir and family history. Understanding The Teenage Brain and Executive Functioning Skills October 27, 8:00-9:00 am Guest speaker Sharon Saline P’17, Psy.D., will deliver helpful, concrete information about how the developing adolescent brain affects thinking, organization and problem-solving. Using humor, recent developments in neuroscience and clinical examples, Dr. Saline will share strategies that you can use to better support your child at school and at home. Five Strategies for Parenting a Confident Teenager: What the Most Current Research Shows January 2, 5:30-7:00 pm Catherine Sanderson is a Professor of Psychology at Amherst College. She received a bachelor’s degree in psychology, with a specialization in Health and Development, from Stanford University, and received both masters and doctoral degrees in psychology from Princeton University. Professor Sanderson’s research examines how personality and social variables influence health-related behaviors such as safer sex and disordered eating, the development of persuasive messages and interventions to prevent unhealthy behavior, and the predictors of relationship satisfaction. This research has received grant funding from the National Science Foundation and the National Institute of Health. Professor Sanderson has published over 25 journal articles and book chapters in addition to two college textbooks (Health Psychology, Social Psychology) and a popular press book on parenting (Slow and Steady Parenting).
