Amy Davis has worked in the food business since she was a teenager. In 2003, her mother, Josephine Finch, bought Ray’s Drive-In and shortly after that, Amy decided to join her mom at the restaurant. In 2009, they opened a restaurant across town. Since opening Amy Jo’s Country Restaurant, a combination of their first names, they have maintained the grand tradition of offering tasty Southern staples. At Amy Jo’s Country Restaurant, you will find some of the same favorites that you can get at Ray’s Drive-In. You can start your day with a good ol’ country breakfast, including your choice of eggs, bacon, sausage, country ham, tenderloin, omelets, pancakes, french toast, waffles or, of course, their wonderful cheese biscuits. For lunch, they offer a wide variety of burgers, hot dogs and sandwiches, with daily specials and six different meat choices each day. On the side, you can’t go wrong with any of their freshly-cooked vegetables. Mashed potatoes, green beans, macaroni and cheese and more are available most days. On Thursdays and Fridays, Amy Jo’s offers dinner until 8 p.m., and Friday night is seafood night, with a variety of fresh seafood including flounder, shrimp, oysters, plus four other meat choices and endless sides. But don’t forget about the great selection of homemade desserts. Try Amy’s “Almost Famous Chew Bread,” a 9-layer chocolate cake, pineapple cake, coconut cake, chocolate pie or homemade banana pudding, just to name a few. You can get any of it by the slice or order a whole cake to take home. For good, Southern cooking, stop by Amy Jo’s Country Restaurant for breakfast, lunch or dinner.

Wilson native Daniel Bass first gained experience running a kitchen during his many years in Greenville. He later took his natural talent to Asheville, where he sharpened his skills working alongside some of the state’s finest chefs for several years before returning home to Wilson. Upon his return to Wilson, Bass opened Daniel’s Casual Fine Dining in June of 2013 in The Shoppes at Brentwood. Daniel’s Casual Fine Dining has a full-service bar with craft beers on draft, a covered front patio for outdoor dining rain or shine, and a private dining room that is available for you to reserve. Wilson Doughnut Shop 525 S. Tarboro St., Wilson 252-243-5325 Mon.-Fri., 6 a.m.–5 p.m. / Sat., 6 a.m.–12 p.m.
For as many people who eat, or have eaten, doughnuts from The Wilson Doughnut Shop over the years, it’s often surprising to many to realize that the same place that has supplied the area with its original recipe of delicious doughnut for the last 61 years has some pretty great things to offer that have nothing to do with doughnuts. Along with their glazed doughnut, chocolate long john or lemon puff — all made on-site daily with the shop’s homemade chocolate and homemade cream, mind you — you can get any number of biscuits as well: tenderloin, scrambled sausage/egg, hoop cheese, turkey link, link sausage — the list goes on. You can even round out your order with some fresh grits or hashbrowns. The lunch offerings seem to be the best kept secret at Wilson Doughnut Shop. Lunch specials are added each week, and soup and sandwich combos are available once the weather turns cold. It is the everyday, affordable menu staples that keep those in-the-know coming back. From the cheeseburgers, made from fresh meat pattied out daily, to the chicken salad, grilled chicken sandwiches and rib-eye steak sandwiches, the shop is definitely worth swinging back by in the afternoon... even if it’s only been a few hours since you left it.

Duck-Rabbit Brewery
9
4519 W. Pine St., Farmville (p) 252-753-7745 Fri., 3–10 p.m. Located just down the road in the quaint rural town of Farmville,
the Duck-Rabbit Brewery has been making big waves in the craft beer world since it sold its first beer in August of 2004. They have become known as the dark beer specialist, producing a steady output of beautiful, delicious, and full-flavored dark beers, especially their flagship brew, Milk Stout. Duck-Rabbit likes to claim that they “brew beers for happy people.” In the last ten years, many of those people have been the judges of national and international beer competitions, as Duck-Rabbit has taken home plenty of medals and top-honor distinctions as masters of their craft. The brewery’s tasting room is open every Friday from 3 to 8 p.m. The mood and atmosphere is completely casual and comfortable, and the staff will offer informal brewery tours during the tasting room hours. The brewery doesn’t have a kitchen, so they encourage anyone to bring food to the tasting room to enjoy with their beer. With such a welcoming, world-class brewery just down the road, it’s no wonder why they enjoy such a growing fan base of “happy” Eastern North Carolina customers by the day. Duck-Rabbit is celebrating their 10th anniversary this year and is currently in the process of expanding their facility with a new building and new equipment. Stop by today and see what makes this brewery “hop”!

Parker’s Barbecue
10
2514 US Hwy 301, Wilson 252-237-0972 Sun.,–Sat., 9 a.m.–9 p.m.
Back in 1946, the Parker brothers shipped timber from Pitt County up the Tar River to Wilson County to be milled prior to the construction of their new restaurant: Parker’s Barbecue. Today, over 60 years later, their milled timber still houses a consistently packed restaurant serving the same great food. Parker’s continues to thrive largely on a legendary word-of-mouth reputation built by locals and out-of-state travelers alike. Parker’s feeds people from all over the country on any given day. Time has shown that folks go out of their way to stop at Parker’s when traveling. Parker’s reputation for “good food and good service,” is the main draw that current owners Kevin Lamm, Eric Lippard and Donald Williams admit customers often praise them for. The combination plate featuring fried chicken, barbecue, stew, boiled potatoes and of course corn sticks is among the most popular offerings. Just don’t forget the slaw to go along with it! Eat in, take out or allow Parker’s to provide full-service catering for your event. After this many years in business, it’s a safe bet that they’re doing something right! Follow the crowd to Parker’s Barbecue and see for yourself why folks come from all around to enjoy it.

Kountry Kitchen owner Tim Whitley revived the Kountry Kitchen several years ago after the long-standing restaurant lay dormant for quite some time. From the beginning, he knew his focus should be on one thing: quality. Quality ingredients, quality staff and a quality environment for locals to enjoy “fine country food.” The strategy has paid off. The feedback from the lunch buffets and “Kountry Breakfasts” is nothing but positive, and the restaurant’s space is at its maximum capacity most days. Though breakfast is not offered on a buffet — so it can be as fresh as possible — standouts of the country staples include their homemade pancakes and biscuits. On the lunch buffet, a rotating mix of everything from outstanding chicken pastry to tender BBQ ribs and tasty meatloaf complement collards, squash and cabbage, among countless other items. On the cold side of the bar, they offer treats such as homemade chicken salad and deviled eggs all day. Homemade desserts are also available. Though the restaurant can seat over 100, it includes a small dining room that seats 32 and is available for reservations. Kountry Kitchen also offers catering for small parties and both business and social events all around eastern N.C. For quality food from quality people, look no further than Kountry Kitchen.

Locally owned by Farmville natives, Susan and Bert Smith, the restaurant is a perfect combination of history, atmosphere and good food. Housed in what was originally an old wagon shop, steak lovers will enjoy the ambiance of exposed beams and the red brick walls of one of the oldest buildings in town. Artifacts and old photographs depicting the rich history of eastern North Carolina cover the walls and bring back memories of days gone by. O’Cools is a long-standing fixture of Wilson and the Shoppes at Brentwood, and over the years has become the go-to place for watching the game, weekly trivia, listening to some outdoor live music with a cocktail in hand or simply catching up with friends and grabbing a meal in a fun, familiar atmosphere. O’Cools is known for their “Unbeatable Chicken Wings,” which can be ordered plain, BBQ, buffaloed (hot) or in their signature style: hot dipped and refried. But looking farther down the menu, you’ll find a whole array of delicious options, from appetizers like crab nuggets, quesadilla rolls, pepperjack dip and nachos to a hearty main course, including chicken breast, tuna steak, a shrimp platter, alfredo pastas and more. Nightly specials bring the crowds in every day of the week. Monday draws the trivia crowd, Tuesday finds tequila on special, and Wednesday is Women’s Wings Day. Bucket Thursdays continue to be ever popular, as well as the nightly beer specials on Friday and Saturday. And, of course, a true sports bar wouldn’t be complete without beer specials for football games every Saturday and Sunday. Various liquor drinks are on special daily. Want to enjoy the cool, fall weather while watching the game? Take your drink out to the covered patio where you’ll find TVs with all your favorite teams playing each weekend. Or enjoy one of the many bands that get the O’Cools patio rocking each week. O’Cools is known as the place “where good friends meet.” So grab your old friends or stop on by to make some new ones. There is always plenty of great food, cold drinks and good times to be found at O’Cools.

In 1955, a dream was born. A dream and a craving for the best cheeseburgers ever tasted. Not to mention the best fresh-cut fries too! In April of 2014, the dream became a reality when Best-N-Burgers was opened. Located conveniently close to I-95, across the street from McDonald’s and behind Burger King, you will find this little gem of a restaurant. Their cheeseburgers are made from fresh ground chuck that is 100% certified Angus beef that is hand pattied and grilled to perfection with a delicious topping of their signature cheese. It is then assembled with only the freshest ingredients of your choice. The fries that partner well with the burgers at Best-N-Burgers are made only from perfectly sized Idaho potatoes. They are then fried in 100% cholesterol free peanut oil before being brought to you hot and crisp and ready to enjoy. In addition to burgers, you will find Nathan’s all beef hot dogs as well as a Southern favorite, Bright Leaf red hot dogs, on the menu as well. Be sure to ask for a fresh squeezed orangeade or lemonade to quench your thirst. For dessert, you can choose from several flavors of Dippin Dots ice cream. Rainbow Ice is the most popular choice! Whether you are a local resident or just stopping through, you won’t want to miss out on Best-N-Burgers . Here are a few comments from people that have stopped in for a bite: What a unexpected gem!! Pulled off to take a pit stop and decided to give it a whirl. Great call as fast, friendly, delicious. Highly recommend. Burgers and fries delicious. Wait staff super friendly! Wish we had one near home as I’d be a repeat customer for sure!! Lorie C. Annapolis, MD
The burgers are cooked to order. You can order either a single or double. The fries are fresh cut fries which are really good! They probably have the best burgers in Wilson if you are asking me. Don’t miss this place! Cruise For Life Wilson, NC Wow, I was shocked to find such a great burger and fries place when driving through. I will definitely stop by every chance I get. Highly recommend this place! And the kids love having Dippin Dots to wrap up a great meal! Jennifer P. Washington, DC
Juicy hand pattied burgers. Yummy fresh cut fries. Delicious fresh squeezed lemonade and orangeade. Definitely worth a stop! M.H. Lucama, NC

Lou Reda’s
an American Table 3646 Sunset Ave., Rocky Mount 252-443-5188 Sun., 11 a.m.–8 p.m. / Mon.- Thurs., 11 a.m.–10 p.m. Fri., 11 a.m.–11 p.m. / Sat., 3–11 p.m.
Since the fall of 2013, Lou Reda’s: An American Table has been impressing residents in eastern North Carolina with their wide variety of tantalizing upscale American cuisine. Lou Reda’s is almost unclassifiable by traditional culinary standards. It’s neither a steak house, a seafood restaurant or a “meat and three” comfort food joint – it’s all of those places and more. Along with delicious staples like a slow cooked brisket and ribs, 14oz hand cut ribeye, fresh cut fish – among countless other menu items you won’t find anywhere else – owner Reda and Chef Justin Gaines explore the vast culinary landscape of America week by week, focusing on different regions and temporarily bringing their staples to the menu. One week you might find an Asian focus or the flavors of New Orleans Cajun or Creole. Another week you might see an imitation of the many English and Irish pubs of New England, serving up generous portions of bangers and mash or shepherd’s pie. With over 22 years in the restaurant business, Lou knows how to keep his customers bringing their appetites back for more. Along with a commitment to variety, Reda and Gaines are equally as committed to authentic freshness and quality. Everything is made in house, from steak sauces to soups, demi-glaze, dressings and butters. That quality extends to the bar area as well, where a 25-foot SS bar and two 60” TV screens offer up a variety of delicious bourbon infused cocktails. Like our sauces, all of our syrups and purees are also made from scratch. We fresh squeeze your lemons, limes and oranges when you order your unique signature cocktail. Finally, Lou specializes in catering events such as weddings or large parties where mouthwatering items like beef brisket will be the talk of the night. Whatever your occasion, come home to Lou Reda’s and experience the variety of flavors America has to offer – all at one table.

OUR VALUE For more than 110 years, Morton Buildings has provided quality and superior service to people looking for an attractive, long-lasting building. Each year we construct thousands of projects and have more than 250,000 satisfied customers. Unlike many other construction companies, our offices are company-owned and not made up of a dealer network. As a customer, you can be confident that you will have the best building experience possible. Everyone involved in the building process – sales consultants, plant personnel and crews – go through extensive training to ensure quality control across the board. We also provide a worry-free experience by handling every aspect of the construction process through coordinating and managing all subcontractors. That ensures each building project lives up to our standards of excellence. Attention to detail, unmatched quality and cutting-edge technology have made us the industry leader in post-frame construction. But our satisfied customers keep us at the top.
