Welcome As we look forward to the return of our Members this fall, preparations are underway to provide the exceptional Club experience they have come to expect, but with added safety precautions in place as we continue to deal with the effects of an ongoing global pandemic. With a maximum membership of 350, Windsor is well-positioned to adapt to important necessary safety measures, such as social distancing and the adherence to mandated capacities in our dining and recreational facilities. Our golf course with no tee times, numerous community parks and more than 10.5 miles of trails provide our Members with plenty of outdoor spaces to enjoy the fresh air. Windsor is located on a pristine stretch of the Atlantic Ocean which is part of the Archie Carr National Wildlife Refuge. In this issue, we are focusing on our beautiful beach, a year-round desired natural treasure. Situated in a climatic transition zone, Windsor’s beach boasts bright blue ocean waters and is home to an abundance of protected wildlife. Two magnificent oceanfront homes currently on the market are featured in this issue as well as two of our few remaining oceanfront homesites. Another reason people are drawn to Windsor is for its focus on art. Our architectural aesthetic and strong arts programming have been defining characteristics of the community since the beginning. On pages 6-7 we look at some of the stunning artwork found in a diversity of Windsor homes.

A Perfect Beach Day A TREASURE AMONG FLORIDA BEACH DESTINATIONS Sunrise casts an amber glow each morning over Florida’s Treasure Coast, beloved by locals and visitors alike for its unspoiled beaches, welcoming state and national parks, and rich abundance of wildlife. Situated along this coastline where the views are an expanse of shimmering water, undulating sand and azure sky, Vero Beach is a haven for the outdoor enthusiast and nature lover. This stretch of the Atlantic Ocean received its moniker after treasure hunters came here looking for gold, silver and jewels. In the 1720s, high winds sank a treasure-carrying fleet of 11 ships and the cargo originally bound for Spain was scattered over the seafloor. To this day, treasure can be found washed up on the shores or by scuba divers at various offshore shipwreck sites. The area has lived up to its namesake and remains a true treasure among Florida beach destinations. Often called the “Gateway to the Tropics,” Vero Beach is in a climatic transition zone that enjoys comfortable temperatures, beautiful blue ocean waters and an unusual mix of vegetation typically found in the coastal Carolinas. Ancient live oaks, pine forests, palm trees and colorful tropical blooms thrive together in harmony here. This hospitable environment where subtropical and tropical climates mingle also encourages the nesting of sea turtles. Nestled along this agreeable shoreline in a sheltered spot between the Indian River and the Atlantic Ocean, Windsor provides a luxe and cozy hideaway in which to relax and unwind. Windsor’s pristine beach is part of the Archie Carr National Wildlife Refuge which stretches across 20.5 miles of coastline in Indian River and Brevard Counties. Established in 1991, the refuge was named after the late Dr. Archie Carr, Jr. in honor of his extraordinary contribution to sea turtle conservation.

America. This represents 25 to 35 percent of all loggerhead and green sea turtle nests in the United States. It also serves as a minor nesting area for the leatherback sea turtle, which is one of the world’s largest and rarest sea turtles.

Windsor celebrates its rejuvenating beach setting with a stunning Anglo-Caribbean style Beach Club designed by architect Jaquelin Robertson. The impressive building includes a welcoming reception area, an elegant restaurant with a veranda overlooking the Atlantic Ocean, a 25-meter pool, a handsome reception and library bar and a poolside Cabana Grille. An elevated boardwalk, designed to preserve the natural dunes, provides beach access from the pool area, where towels, chairs and umbrellas are provided for Members and their guests. Soon, ocean views at the Beach Club will be more spectacular with the opening of a new two-story, open-air Cabana Bar. With more than 2,000 square feet of outdoor dining space, the Cabana Bar will offer Members a new casual dining opportunity where they can savor the Beach Club’s regional cuisine while enjoying refreshing sea breezes and a breathtaking vista. Opening this fall, the new dining facility was designed by the architectural firm Clemens Bruns Shaub, whose awardwinning work can be found throughout Windsor, and is being built by one of Windsor’s longtime preferred builders, Huryn Construction. Leading designer Alessandra Branca has been tapped to design the interiors of the new oceanfront dining space. Branca’s signature style can be seen in Windsor’s recently refurbished Suites and Concierge office.

The Artful Home A COMMUNITY FOR THE ACQUIRING EYE
Silkscreen by Alex Katz
A hallmark of Windsor is distinctive homes that radiate elegance without feeling formal. Often referred to as Anglo-Caribbean, Windsor’s architecture takes inspiration from classic Southern homes as well as the more relaxed feel of homes found in the islands. Windsor makes use of steeply pitched roofs, open eaves with partially exposed rafters, cantilevered balconies and warm, neutral colors to create a signature style that is both timeless and contemporary. This repetition and continuity of style and exterior finishes found throughout Windsor is calming. Add into the mix a diversity of design choices and home

plans and you find a New Urbanist community that could itself be described as a work of art. Residents find individual expression in their choice of home plans – as diverse as the membership – and interior design. Along with the notable architecture, many people find Windsor appealing for its strong emphasis on the appreciation of art in all its many forms. The community boasts an art gallery featuring world-class exhibitions and a robust art-related calendar of events each season. Recently, we took a walk through some of our homes to share a sampling of the standout contemporary works on display. A Pennsylvania-based couple with two young children was drawn to Windsor

designer Lindsey Coral Harper to design their new home to complement their impressive collection. A signature Mel Bochner Thank You is a stunning example of the artist’s large-scale monoprints and serves as quite the conversation piece in the home’s eclectic dining room. A South American couple who had spent many years in Chicago built a contemporary home at Windsor and filled it with pieces from iconic designers. Collaborating with architect and designer Brad Lynch, the couple created a functionally versatile open-plan layout that serves as an ideal backdrop for art. On display in their beautifully streamlined kitchen is a large-scale oil painting by Argentinean artist Fernando O’ Connor. A striking woodcut by Romanian artists Gert and Uwe Tobias hangs in the casual dining room of an estate home overlooking the Atlantic Ocean.
The twin brothers, who presented a site-specific exhibition at The Gallery at Windsor in 2013, create vivid works that explore the intersection between popular culture and Romanian folklore. Works by leading American figurative artist Alex Katz are on display at Windsor and in the collections of several of its residents. A New York-based couple worked with designer Marla Pasareno and art consultant Betsy Senior to create a transitional home where art plays a major role. A silkscreen titled White Roses offers a soothing swath of color in the serene master bedroom.

An eco-friendly home designed by Clemens Bruns Schaub was built in Windsor’s South Village as a vacation getaway for a family based in London. As visitors step inside this award-winning home they are greeted by a bold work of modern sculpture. Rainwater falls down a remarkable Sir Antony Gormley statue standing in the double-height entry atrium with an impluvium.
Along with the notable architecture, many people find Windsor appealing for its strong emphasis on the appreciation of art in all its many forms.
In a Village home at Windsor, an oversized canvas by African American artist Henry Taylor was the design inspiration for a Canadian couple’s living room. “The piece dominates the room,” says Toronto designer Sasha Josipovicz of Studio Pyramid. “The rest of the furnishings evolved naturally around it.”

Windsor Park Residences GRACIOUS ONE-FLOOR LIVING
The recently built Windsor Park Residences have filled a need at Windsor by offering an opportunity to own a home at Windsor on a more intimate scale. The carefully conceived plan reveals Windsor’s dedication to preserving and enjoying the natural surroundings. Lush conservation areas border the north and west sides of the site, which is located along the western edge of Windsor. Residents have long views over the protected wetlands toward the Indian River. Designed by Merrill, Pastor & Colgan Architects, the 12 one-floor residences are situated on the second and third floors and are conveniently accessed by elevators placed in various lobbies throughout the buildings. Pergolas screen the auto courts leading to the ground floor garages. The plan comfortably accommodates spaces for 24 cars and ample golf cart storage. The thoughtfully designed homes were built by Huryn Construction, one of Windsor’s longstanding preferred builders. Inside, the living areas are spacious and well-appointed with exceptional finishes. Outdoor living can be as public or private as residents desire, with expansive balconies and porches, interior gardens and a central reflecting pool courtyard. Deep loggias surrounding the reflecting pool provide residents plenty of spaces for socializing or quiet time in the shade. With an eye on bringing the outdoors in, the architectural team made use of voluminous windows to provide natural light, capture breezes and offer spectacular views of the sunset and gardens. Only a few residences remain and range from three- to five-bedrooms starting in the low $2 millions. Below are two Windsor Park Residences currently on the market.

While the clients initially requested a more traditional décor, the sister design team of Ashley Waddell and Courtney Whatley were able to work in a few modern pieces to add a little drama without overpowering the home’s placid scene. By blending the husband’s more traditional taste with the wife’s desire for something a little more modern, the designers were able to create a home that turned out to be the perfect transitional mix and just what the couple wanted. Oceanfront Homesites LIMITED OPPORTUNITIES REMAIN
These exceptional oceanfront homesites offer wide and sweeping views across a natural dune to the Atlantic Ocean. From the village of Windsor, a private tunnel leads to the community’s Beach Club and private oceanfront neighborhood. Lush native landscaping along Eton Way creates additional privacy from the street and adds to the neighborhood’s rural “Old Florida” feel.
Building placement standards for homes on the ocean are attentive to protecting Windsor’s native dune vegetation and marine life, while still allowing for spectacular ocean views and private beach access from each home. Oceanfront homesites conform to the patterns already established on the ocean side of Windsor where homes are low in scale and understated in style, yet reflect the hallmarks of some of the world’s most renowned architects.
