The Halfway Homestead project envisions the transformation of a historic building into a welcoming cultural center and community hub for residents and visitors. The upcoming work at the Historic Halfway Homestead includes the historic restoration of the 1873 Halfway House, the oldest structure in Windsor, and the rehabilitation of the 1905 Dickey Farmhouse.
The plans for these preservation projects were completed with support from the State Historical Fund and using guidance from the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for Historic Preservation.
During the project, the Halfway House will be restored to look as it might have in the early 1800s to provide a “step back in time” for visitors. The Dickey Farmhouse will be rehabilitated to become a classroom and community gathering space.

Main Park, the oldest park in Windsor, has some of the “tried and true” tree favorites: linden, catalpa and hackberry, but it also boasts some trees that are newer to Colorado landscapes: corktree, bald cypress, and tulip tree. Windsor’s forester plants many different species in the park to assess how they perform in our climate and conditions. This walk with Tree Board will show you a variety of trees that can be considered for your home landscaping as well as provide tidbits of information about the trees you may already have!
