The Town of Windsor recently completed two separate surveys which are both available at www.windsorgov.com. These surveys indicated strong support for recreational opportunities, special events, and facilities. Your feedback is greatly appreciated! It gives staff a chance to learn about new programs you want to experience, and helps us to improve service! This edition of the Link targets several feedback areas. Check out the community events including Oktoberfest on pages 2-4. How about a nature hike, offered collaboratively with Larimer County Open Lands, on page 3? Get together with friends, family, or co-workers and join a basketball or softball league – check out page 30. And if you’re looking to log some miles, watch for the new section of Windsor Trail – Greeley No.2 Ditch between 15th St. and 9th St. to be completed! Georgetown Loop Railroad Take a ride on the Georgetown Loop Railroad! Completed in 1884, this spectacular stretch of three-foot narrow gauge railroad was considered an engineering marvel for its time. Denver Nuggets Skills Challenge The Denver Nuggets Skills Challenge is a FREE competition open to boys and girls that allows youngsters to showcase their talents in dribbling, passing, and shooting. It is a youth program produced by the Denver Nuggets and Colorado Parks and Recreation Association with support from Comfort Dental and the Colorado Beef Council. Girls will play either the Northern Colorado Girls Basketball League or the Power to Play Sports League. Recycle Your Christmas Trees!

Treasure Island Garden Located adjacent to Laku Lake Road, along the Poudre River Trail, south of Eastman Park. Treasure Island Garden is a cooperative effort between the Town of Windsor and the Colorado Master Gardeners of Weld County. Plant Select © Treasure Island Garden is a Colorado Plant Select Demonstration Garden. This cooperative program, administered by Denver Botanic Gardens & Colorado State University in concert with horticulturists & nurseries throughout the region, seeks to identify and distribute the very best plants for landscapes and gardens from the intermountain region to the high plains. Would you like to help? If you are willing to contribute volunteer hours to this project, or if you have plants you would like to donate to the garden, please call 970-686-7319.

Brush Recycling Site What is the Brush Recycling Site? The brush recycling site is a place for Windsor residents to take brush from trees and shrubs, grass clippings, and other recyclable yard waste. The brush is then ground into wood chips for Windsor residents to use as mulch in their yards. Hours: Mon–Fri, 8am–3pm 1st & 3rd Sat of the month, 10am–2pm. Location: 801 Diamond Valley Drive.

Permit Required: Residents who live within Windsor town limits may purchase a permit at the CRC or at Town Hall for $5. Permits are valid Jan–Dec within the year purchased. Please bring a valid State ID and a current Town of Windsor utility bill. Other restrictions may apply. Call 970-674-3500 or 970-674-2422 for more information. Rules and Regulations: • Must purchase an annual permit • Permit must be displayed and clearly visible on vehicle when entering site. • Must be a resident of the Town of Windsor (valid state id may be requested) • Brush from trees & shrubs, grass clippings, leaves or other recyclable yard waste ONLY The following are NOT allowed: • No commercial operators or jobs for hire • No wood material larger than 10” in diameter • No stumps or root balls • No lumber or building material of any kind • No household garbage of any kind

Did you know?

Did you know the Town of Windsor owns and maintains trees in the public right of ways? In most cases, the right of way (ROW) is the strip of land between the street and sidewalk in the old part of town, but there are several exceptions (contact us if you have questions). Before any work can be done to trees that are in, over, or upon the ROW, or any other work within the ROW, (i.e. installing an irrigation system), a permit must be obtained (Windsor ordinance Sec. 7-4-30 and Sec. 7-4-40). The town will plant, prune and remove if necessary any trees that are within the ROW and the property owner is responsible to water the trees. If you would like a tree planted in the ROW in front of your home, or need any maintenance of the trees planted there, please call the Windsor forestry program at 970-674-2440.

All major forms of credit cards are accepted as well as cash, checks, money orders or cashier checks. **Payments by check: The Town of Windsor will charge a $15 service fee for all checks not honored for any reason by the bank. Checks should be made payable to “Windsor Recreation Department” and should include your driver’s license or identification number, issuing state, and expiration date.** Full payment must be made at the time of registration.

Reduced Fees

Eligible participants in our Reduced Fee Program can receive a discount off the registration fee. Applications are available at the Community Recreation Center or online at www.windsorgov.com. Please see page 36 for more information.

Deadlines:

The registration deadlines for each event are listed in this brochure under the event description. A “first come, first served” wait list will be maintained after the deadline date to fill any remaining event openings.

Waiting List Procedure:

Waiting lists are a source of contact and do not guarantee you will receive a call back. We will contact you only if a space becomes available. Waiting lists for a closed class or sport provides us with a name and phone number in the event of a cancellation or if a new class is added. It does not limit you from registering for any other open class.

Class sizes may be limited to assure class quality and safety. Minimum participation numbers must be met or programs may be cancelled.

Refund Policy:

After initial registration, a refund request is required in writing a minimum of five (5) days prior to the start of any class or program to receive a full refund unless otherwise noted. You may stop in to the Community Recreation Center or go visit www.windsorgov.com to fill out a refund request form. Four (4) days prior to the start date and through the first week of the session, 50% of the registration fee is refundable. No refunds or transfers will be allowed after the first week of the session unless circumstances, stated in writing, warrant consideration. Full refunds will be given if the Recreation Department cancels a class or program. Please note: minimum participation numbers must be met or programs may be cancelled. No refunds or transfers will be accepted less than two (2) days prior to the start of a program that only meets once.

The Windsor Parks and Recreation Department’s goal is to provide our participants opportunities to form new friendships, meet new people, and have a fun recreational atmosphere with teams as balanced as possible. Special requests are not taken. Only the head coach and one assistant coach’s children are placed on teams together. Teams are randomly selected by computer or by assessments, separated by skill level, age or grade and gender if applicable.

Participants must recognize that all classes/ activities of a physical nature involve some risk and by registering for a class/activity of this nature, there is an assumption of risk by the participant. Every effort is made to ensure the safety of the participants and to provide them with first class recreational facilities, activities and parks. In the event of a serious accident or illness, it is the policy of the Town of Windsor to: 1. Call 911 for emergency personnel for first aid. 2. Reach the parent or guardian as soon as the situation allows. Each registration must have a waiver signed by either a parent or legal guardian.

Reduced Fee Program

The Windsor Parks and Recreation Department has a reduced fee program that offers financial assistance to both children and adults who need support in order to participate in recreation activities. Please contact the Community Recreation Center to obtain an application. Your request will be confidentially reviewed and approved based on financial qualifications. For details see page 34.
