S.A.L.T. is a self-sustaining group made up of local Middle School and High School students who want to make a difference in the community. S.A.L.T. holds meetings on the 1st & 3rd Wednesday of each month, where new events are planned and ideas are discussed to better the community. “Cosecha Amarga, Cosecha Dulce: El Programa Bracero, 1942-1964”, una nueva exposición bilingüe (Inglés/ Español), explorará las contribuciones de los braceros a comunidades en México y los Estados Unidos, las oportunidades que surgieron para los braceros y los retos que éstos enfrentaron como trabajadores temporeros durante y después de los años de guerra.

In 1943, President Roosevelt announced the creation of what would become the largest Mexican guest-worker program in U.S. history. “Bittersweet Harvest: The Bracero Program, 1942-1964,” a new bilingual (English/Spanish) exhibition, will explore the braceros’ contributions to communities in Mexico and the United States, the opportunities that became available to braceros and the challenges that they faced as guest workers during the war years and afterward.

The exhibit will be on view at the Art & Heritage Center from November 17, 2012 to January 27, 2013, part of a two-year, multi-city tour. A complementary display will be on view at the Windsor Community Recreation Center. The Vintage Aero Flying Museum houses one of the most historically significant and internationally recognized collections of World War I memorabilia in the world. They also have a significant collection of Golden Age of Aviation (1918 - 1939) and World War II aviation memorabilia and aircraft.

This material includes memorabilia from Japan, Germany and other axis countries.

Highlighting the quality of the collection, they also have the only known “True Copy” of the Instrument of Surrender, presented to General Wainwright. The Smithsonian Institution cites this museum as a reference and regularly sends researchers out to learn more from the collection. Walking Level:

Rocky Mountain National Park Elk Bugling In Rocky Mountain National Park, fall brings clear blue skies, crisp air, bugling elk, and bighorn sheep butting contests.

The peak of the Aspen gold rush is usually in late September. During the SeptemberOctober mating season, bull elk stage their own passion play of sorts. Nutrition & Cooking Class: Introduction to How Foods Fight Cancer

Certain diet patterns seem to have a major effect in helping people diagnosed with cancer to live longer, healthier lives. The National Cancer Institute research shows that as much as 50% of cancer risk may be related to diet. In this class, you will learn about the right food choices that can help reduce the risk of developing cancer as well as overcome the disease after it has been diagnosed. This class is an introduction to how foods fight cancer while enjoying a cooking demonstration and tasting delicious, healthful dishes.

Fall Adult Softball

Men’s Adult Basketball Men’s recreational teams play seven league games, and a single elimination tournament.

Games consist of two 20 minute halves. Players must be 18 years of age or older. The league is designed for teams that have average skilled players. Players should not have college experience. High school experience is acceptable. Teams should not have more than two players over 6’4” tall.

Intermediate Basketball Teams are forming for the 2012-2013 Intermediate basketball season. Open tryouts will be held for existing teams needing players and new teams. Boys will play in Power to Play Sports Fall league. Girls will play either in the Triple Crown Northern Colorado Girls League or the Power to Play Sports League. Each league has the option to compete in Gold Crown Foundation Basketball or play in the Power to Play Sports Winter League. Players will be evaluated on basketball skills, athleticism, and attitude.

Denver Nuggets Skills Challenge The Denver Nuggets Skills Challenge is a FREE competition open to boys and girls that allows youngsters to showcase their talents in dribbling, passing, and shooting. Located adjacent to Laku Lake Road, along the Poudre River Trail, south of Eastman Park.

Treasure Island Garden is a cooperative effort between the Town of Windsor and the Colorado Master Gardeners of Weld County.

Brush Recycling Site New Entrance / New Regulations The Town of Windsor Brush Recycling Site is now being operated by the Facilities Division of the Public Works Department.

Location: The Brush Recycling Site is located at 801 Diamond Valley Dr., however a new entrance has been created for the site. Access to this entrance is available from Diamond Valley Dr. Permits: Annual brush permits are available for Windsor residents. Load fees will apply at the site. Please see fee information below.

Brush permits are available at: Town Hall, 301 Walnut Street, & the Windsor Community Recreation Center, 250 N. 11th Street.

Reduced Fees

Eligible participants in our Reduced Fee Program can receive a discount off the registration fee. Applications are available at the Community Recreation Center or online at www.windsorgov.com. Please see pages 21 & 34 for information.

Refund Policy:

After initial registration, a refund request is required in writing a minimum of five (5) days prior to the start of any class or program to receive a full refund unless otherwise noted. Four (4) days prior to the start date and through the first week of the session, 50% of the registration fee is refundable. No refunds or transfers will be allowed after the first week of the session unless circumstances, stated in writing, warrant consideration. Refund request forms are located at the Community Recreation Center or visit www.windsorgov.com.

Full refunds will be given if the Recreation Division cancels a class or program. Please note: minimum participation numbers must be met or programs may be cancelled. No refunds or transfers will be accepted less than two (2) days prior to the start of a program that only meets once.

Waiting lists are a source of contact and do not guarantee you will receive a call back. We will contact you only if a space becomes available.

Waiting lists for a closed class or sport provides us with a name and phone number in the event of a cancellation or if a new class is added. It does not limit you from registering for any other open class.

Minimums/Maximums:

Class sizes are limited to assure class quality and safety. Minimum participation numbers must be met or programs may be cancelled.

Team Selection:

The Parks, Recreation & Culture Department’s goal is to provide participants opportunities to form new friendships, and have a fun recreational atmosphere with teams as balanced as possible.

Special requests are not taken. Only the head coach and one assistant coach’s children are placed on teams together. Teams are randomly selected by computer or by assessments, separated by skill level, age or grade and gender if applicable.

Participants must recognize that all classes/ activities of a physical nature involve some risk and by registering for a class/activity of this nature, there is an assumption of risk by the participant. Every effort is made to ensure the safety of the participants and to provide them with first class recreational facilities, activities and parks.

In the event of a serious accident or illness, it is the policy of the Town of Windsor to: 1. Call 911 for emergency personnel for first aid.

2. Reach the parent or guardian as soon as the situation allows.

Each registration must have a waiver signed by either a parent or legal guardian.
